“I’ll try my best to refrain.” he gave a laugh when she explained in what circumstance he’d need to be worried around her brothers. “I’ve got a brother too, younger, by about 2 minutes. He’s a twin.” Sav told her, he wasn’t sure if she knew, or had seen a boy who looked exactly like him, but a little less buff and in Hufflepuff robes. He left about the bit about having 2 sisters, he had still only spoken to one of them, and he hadn’t seen them since they graduated. “Why does he hate you?” Sav asked as Ashley went on to explain her situation with the boy. Sav found himself curious. “I can’t see anyone being mad at you.” he flirted.
Ashley agreed to go down first and told sav to wait up here until she got to the bottom. He felt a little bad letting her go first on her own, what if there was something gross down there? He knew it woudn’t hurt her, as it was just a game, but he still felt a little bad. Once she made it to the bottom she called up that he could come down and he did so quickly, taking the ladder steps two by two and jumping down the last few. It was indeed dark. Sav looked around and then reached his hand out to touch the walls. “There’s something engraved in the walls here.” he told her.

Ashley laughed when Sav said he'd do his best to refrain from kissing her. Yeah, he was definitely fun to be around and she appreciated his teasing. Her jaw dropped when he started to explain about his own family. "You have a twin? How did I not know this?" Ashley chuckled, "So is he in the same house as you or play Quidditch with you or anything?" She couldn't imagine having someone literally the same age as her in her family. She liked things the way they were.
Sav's next question definitely wasn't a surprise, but Ashley found herself a little more hesitant to answer that question. It showed a part of her that she wasn't proud of. She snorted a soft laugh when he flirted, but rolled her eyes. "Well, as unbelievable as it sounds, it's possible," she answered casually, like this wasn't a big deal. She hadn't told anyone about Eli, not even Joe. Why was she telling him? Maybe because he wasn't asking who it was about. She looked away from Sav, "I was a jerk to him, like really mean ... and it was in front of other people so we're really just not friends anymore. I haven't talked to him in months." Yeah, that was the simple part of it, the easiest way to explain it. In all honesty, the entire situation was so complicated, but down at the core it was her fault.
Her eyes slowly started to adjust, though Ashley couldn't really see much in the basement, but Sav joined her before she could really see. "What?" she muttered, moving toward him and starting to touch the engravings. Did they expect people to read this by touching it? So annoying. "I can't reach the top part!" Ashley whined. "But the bottom line says ... "there-in lies the key". I guess it's up to you to figure that out," she offered, a little miffed that it wasn't something she could figure out.

“No he’s like… smart.” Sav said with a laugh. “He’s an academic type.” much to the delight of their mother. There had to be one, sav supposed. He and his brothers were different, that was for sure, but they were alike in a lot of ways. Both her kind and courageous young men who would do anything they needed to do for the ones that they loved, both were dealt the same awful hand by their dad and what he did to their mom. “He’s in Hufflepuff. So if you see me but a little smaller in yellow robes, it’s not a trick to pick up girls.” Sav promised.
She explained that she had been mean to him and they hadn't talked in a while because of it. “Have you tried to apologize?” he asked. Maybe it was stupid to ask, but he felt like a lot of times, a simple apology went a long way. Ashley felt around the wall and read what she felt, she said there was something above it which she couldn’t reach and Sav reached above her and felt around, “A loose floorboard near the door…” he read outloud. Was that it the whole time? The key was under the door? “Shall we go back up and see?” he asked.

Ashley couldn't help it. She quirked an eyebrow at Sav, "Are you saying you're not smart?" she teased before he went on to explain a little more about his brother being the academic type. Ashley was the academic type, and an athletic type as of late and a flirty type. Huh, maybe she fit into more categories than she originally would have placed herself. She smiled when he explained that his brother was in Hufflepuff. "Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Don't flirt outrageously with a guy in yellow robes. That would be the wrong guy," she said, acting as though she was telling herself so she wouldn't forget. She wouldn't.
Sav's question took Ashley by surprise. She thought he'd ask what she did or why it damaged their friendship so much, but Sav's tone was kind and he wasn't judging her. She swallowed, nodding slowly. "I apologized, but the damage was already done," her tone was softer now. The honest truth was, she hadn't realized the full picture, hadn't been thinking when she was rude to Eli. Then, when they had their fight, he pointed out all the things she'd done that she didn't have to before saying they couldn't be friends. She apologized and then left, agonized by what she'd done but it was too late. "I don't think he wants anything to do with me," she added after a moment. After all, they'd been in school for about two months and she and Eli hadn't said one word to one another. Wasn't that sign enough.
She stepped back a little when Sav stepped forward to try and figure out what the first line said. She laughed, "A floorboard?" It was so simple, but also not surprising that it was. She nodded. "Yeah, let's go up," she agreed, moving back to the ladder and climbing it quickly. She was the first one down, so it only made sense that she could leave first too. She shuddered slightly at the top, brushing off her clothes while she waited for Sav to come out too.

“I don’t try.” Sav answered her with a shrug when she asked if he was saying that he wasn’t smart. Sav couldn’t really care less about his classes. He did what was required of him to get a passing mark and to make his mum happy. His effort and energy were reserved for the Quidditch pitch. He didn’t need good grades to play Quidditch so what was the use of wasting time and energy? She explained that she had apologized and he didn’t want anything to do with her. “I can’t imagine anyone wanting nothing to do with you. You’re intoxicating.” he said, only half teasing. She was an incredible girl. “Maybe it just needs time? Or, maybe just don’t give up? Sometimes persistence is key.” Sav always knew when to give up, or so he thought. He liked to think he knew when enough was enough and when to let the other person have space. But with some people, like, if Hugo were ever upset, Sav would persist until Hugo gave in and talked about it. People liked to know that they were cared about.
The two of them crawled back up the ladder, Sav walked over to the door and sure enough, he pulled up a floorboard centered in front of it. The key was there. Sav replaced the bored, put the key in the door, and it opened. “All of that for they key to be by the door.” he said with a laugh. They had made it out within the time limit. They were lead over to their wands and Sav pocketed his again, happy to be back with it. Though, in a way, he hadn’t missed it. “I’ve got to get back to the scare tours.” he admitted, “I only had an hour break.” he added. “I’ll see you soon though? For that tour?” he asked.

Ashley nodded when Sav said he didn't try. That made sense. Obviously his brother did try and cared a lot about academics, so he got the label of "smart" twin. Sav didn't come out right and say it, but Ashley got the feeling that he preferred the label of "athletic", especially considering everything he told her during their blind date over the summer. Quidditch was his life, so it didn't take a lot of imagination to figure out that it mattered more to him than anything else did. She smiled, ducking her head a little when Sav said that she was intoxicating and that he couldn't imagine Eli didn't want anything to do with her. Not that he knew it was Eli, but still. "Thanks Sav," she answered, looking back up to meet his eyes. Then he suggested maybe giving it time or not giving up and she nodded her head, "I'll try that. I haven't really actually tried talking to him since, so maybe I just need to make the first move and reach out." They were good ideas. She'd just have to find a time when she could talk to Eli alone. He always seemed to be with people, but maybe if she really paid attention she could figure something out. At least Sav wasn't telling her to give up. That was definitely a good thing. Sav pulled up the floorboard and Ashley laughed with him. "Yeah ... well I'm glad we figured it out. It didn't take that long either," she commented. Ashley wasn't really surprised they found their way out. After all, this was designed so the younger students could do it too. She took her wand back, slipping it back into her pocket and nodded. "Have fun," she teased with a wink. Then she nodded, "Yup! Let me know when you have time! I'd love to do that whenever. I'm not normally busy."--- the end --- @sav
