Alice was on her break at the Leaky Cauldron. She stopped into the inn to help out whenever she could, considering both of her parents couldn't be there. She felt someone should represent the family, since it was her mother's inn and all. Plus she had grown up always working odd jobs there and she felt at home and comfortable there. It was just a plus that the people who hung around were strangers who likely would not bother her if they saw her studying on a break. Just the way Alice liked it.
Being a magizoologist intern was everything she expected it to be. She knew as an intern she wouldn't get to do quite as much field work, but she had done a lot over the summer that she was okay with that. It gave her more time to be there for her family too, and that was something she was grateful for especially considering the circumstances the Longbottoms had undergone in the last two years. Alice was seated at the bar, as usual, as she awaited her soup she had ordered for lunch. She pulled out her creature study journal to go over some notes and reflected on the rest of her tasks for the day, which just consisted of going back to her boss and alphabetizing his files. Not that Alice minded though. Any work that had to do with animals was work that Alice was happy to do.

Andy didn't visit the Leaky as often as she would have liked to. At first it was because she had moved out, then it was because she didn't want to run into Phil too often, and then it was because she had just gotten used to not being around. Living with the Windsors was like a whole other world. It was easy to get lost in their apartment and the Ministry and not find time in between to visit her families pub. Still, she was glad whenever she was able to make a stop there now. It wasn't awkward anymore with Phil, and she was just happy to see whoever was working.
She didn't expect to see Alice, though, which was stupid. Of course Alice would be around sometimes. The two had never really gotten close still but at least they weren't staring daggers at each other or anything... Andy had always sort of wished they could bond, but she'd never really tried. So, she went over to the bar and sat next to her adopted sister. "Hey, Alice," she greeted with a nod.

Sometimes when Alice was at the Cauldron, it was easy to just let her mind wander. When she was growing up, she found she could never really sit out in the open and study because her mind was always focused on what was going on around her. She thought maybe as she got older she would get better at not doing that, but it never really stopped. If anything, she was more focused on the goings on around her. So when she heard footsteps approach, she tensed a little in anticipation for who it could possibly be until she heard their voice.
Alice didn't expect to see Andy at the inn, considering she was living with the Windsors now and she had a job at the Ministry. It was still weird to think of her as a sister and also her younger brother's ex-girlfriend. It was even weirder to think that Phil and Andy were both graduated now. Alice turned to look at her adopted sister and gave her a little nod in return. "Hi, Andy," she said. It was still awkward sometimes for Alice to talk to Andy, considering they had never been extremely close while growing up and Alice hadn't exactly been welcoming to her and Natalia when they had first joined their family either. "Uh, how are you?" Alice asked after a brief, awkward moment of silence.

Alice nodded at her, offering a greeting. Andy tried not to look away, which was her instinct. Alice wasn't the easiest person to talk to... but neither was Andy, so this made their interactions very strange. Alice propelled the conversation forward, asking how Andy was. "Fine, yeah, fine," Andy answered - too quickly for it to sound natural. "How are things going with you? I hear you're doing a lot with magizoology," Andy commented, hoping that maybe talking about Alice's career was going to be a good ice breaker in order to get Alice talking in a more comfortable capacity. Though, Andy wasn't sure talking about her hit-witch career was good conversation... so hopefully the animals held out for a bit.

Had the two of them ran into each other like this maybe two years ago, Alice would have kept her head down and to herself. She was certain though that perhaps Andy would have done the same. Growing up at school, Alice never really realized just how much she ended up having in common with her adoptive sisters. Both seemed to be more on the quiet side, much like Alice. And for at least that, Alice was thankful. Alice only nodded at Andy's answer. She expected their conversation to be a little awkward. After all, the both of them kind of were awkward. She hadn't expected, however, Andy to ask about her job. She was taken off guard only for a moment, mouth hanging open just a tad before she finally answered. "Uh, yeah," she finally said. "I'm just an intern right now, studying little ones here and there. But... I'm hoping I can go off on another trip next summer to study some bigger ones." Talking about animals was natural for Alice, so it was no surprise it came as easier conversation for the blonde and even brought a small half smile to her face.

For the moment before Alice responded Andy was worried that she had somehow offended her. But then Alice spoke, saying she was just an intern right now and was hoping to go on another trip next summer. Andy nodded, "that's cool. Whereabouts are you going?" Andy asked. She could tell that Alice was more comfortable talking about her work. Anyone would be that way, really. Talking about things you loved was always easier than talking about anything else. It was a much better way for them to converse, rather than try to make awkward small talk for the better part of the day. "I'm at the Ministry, don't know if you heard," Andy mentioned.
