Ever since Dana Knox’s birth, her pureblood mother had always argued with her muggle-born father, demanding for the eldest Knox girl, alongside her twin-siblings who were introduced into the world many years later to attend school that would cater towards their magical histories. Being a pureblood, Dana’s mother, Aya, only wished for the best for her children, but Dana’s father Myron refused.
To save their marriage for a little while longer; it led to the Knox children attending regular muggle school, with their magical histories being kept secret while the smallest amount of consideration to send the Knox children to standard muggle-middle-school as well; something Aya refused to see. But from memory, at the young age of eight years old, starting a fresh new year in a brand-new school; Dana remembers the pigtails she once sported, with different coloured scrunchies holding up each blonde strand.
She always pouted too as thick rimmed glasses sat upon her slowly defining nose, while because of allergies Dana Knox always found herself sniffling. She was the epitome of a complete nerd. But that didn’t stop her from making friends.
Introducing Tamara Marie Finch. From memory, Dana remembered how the young brunette approached her alongside her twin sister Tia, mentioning that the three of them had the same first class with one another. The three always shared a bunch of giggles amongst themselves, but hey. They were kids. What else could they do? Dana remembered the warm and soft smile Tamara would always have and the politeness she shared with everyone, even with bullies. But while Tamara was warm, Dana were different. Loud mouthed and always found her glasses slipping off her nose.
It always caused her trouble. But it never seemed to cause a wedge in her friendship with Tamara, as even to this day they still remained friends. Now in the present day, with her childhood fading from her memories eleven-year-old Dana Knox, a pale blonde girl sat upon the train approaching Hogwarts, a school for wizards and witches. Just shy of a month ago, the blonde remembers her blue eyes gazing upon a cursive written letter resting in the claws of a flying owl, something that seemed to confuse her.
She remembered her mother holding a large glass vase, before dropping it at the sight of the owl and its pigeon like coos; realising it was time for the truth to come out. And so, her magical background was revealed. But none of this mattered, it was all just memories. Dana turned her head to the side ever so slightly while her fingers fumbled with the cloaks she wore, feeling rather comfortable in them.
Her lips opened slightly while words of excitement and nervousness spewed out. ”Aren’t you excited?” she questioned Tamara, a wide grin on her lips, showing her slight toothy smile. She had a lot of growing to do. | 479 words >> notes: sorry for the wait! hopefully this is okay! |

SEPTEMBER 1, 2016
The brunette witch had never known about her magical background, and that was due to being raised within the muggle world her entire life. Her mother and father were muggles, and so was her elder brother, so it came as quite a shock when Tia and Tamara received their letters to Hogwarts as well as a visit from the magical community who had to explain everything to the once mundane family. Tamara’s life had been pretty ordinary before that, having gone to a muggle elementary school and middle school for a little before the letter appeared. It was then that her entire world change but at least she had her twin to enjoy it with, and later she would learn her childhood friend –Dana Knox—was a part of the community as well.
As September came around the corner, and quickly the family had shopped for everything they needed for the new adventure at Hogwarts. They were fitted for their robes, got their books, and even went and got a wand. The whole wand choosing process was somewhat unusual, especially when it came to holding the wrong wand. The wand picked the witch or wizard, not the other around, which came interesting to both Tia and Tamara.
Now here she was, the first day of school sitting on the train with her friend Dana. Tia had disappeared somewhere, probably exploring the train as they headed towards Hogwarts. It was interesting how everything had turned out, and she looked out the window. Dana was already dressed in her robes, and she knew that she would need to change soon, but she watched the hills roll by. It wasn’t until Dana spoke that she turned towards her friend with a grin on her face, “Oh yes—I’ve been excited since the letter came and everything was explained!” she said with a small laugh, tucking a strand of brunette hair behind her ear.

The sound of their own steam train alarmed Dana’s ears temporarily, resulting with a brief giggle leaving the Knox girl’s lips. Blue eyes paid attention to the detailing of the hills that the locomotive passed by. She fiddled with her robes lightly as she listened to her friend Tamara speak, a wide grin beaming in the Finch girl’s direction. Dana Knox was known for never hiding her excitement but instead never-shutting-up-about-it. ”Hogwarts just seems so…grand.” the blonde said, proud of her formal language.
Her mother used to spew stories of the amazing Hogwarts, how rich and grand it was especially during the time of Harry Potter’s presence. Dana remembered the stories that would rile her mother into a giddy mood – overly excited and nostalgic. Though it was Dana’s own turn to experience life alone. Even if she truly wasn’t alone. A toothy smile flashed in Tamara’s direction once more while the blonde’s thumb and index fingers picked upon loose strings that Dana had caused herself. Although…Something seemed to be missing…
Looking up as if a light had gone off in her head, Dana’s lips fell apart – her lips moving to form words once more. ”Your robes!” she exclaimed, standing. Tugging at the hands of her friend, the Knox child pulled the Finch girl to her feet. While Tia had gone to explore; Dana decided to take it into her own hands for their preparation, looking upon their cases filled with their items. ”Find and change into your robes!”, she commanded, teasingly sounding like a teacher. ”So we can practice magic!”
Magic was one thing the Knox child was extremely excited for. While her mother was a pureblood – magic was kept out of the Knox family until the arrival of Dana’s acceptance letter. Her mother resented her father for years; strangely abiding by his rules for their children to live a normal life. Something that confused the young Knox girl to this very day. But now…She refused to question it. Her mother performed spells before her very own eyes, leaving the blonde greedy to do the same with others. | |

Tamara was used to trains, or at least, she believed that she was. However, this train felt different – almost magical – to the Finch girl. She almost laughed at the way she was thinking, of course, the train was magical, it was a freaking wizard train or something along those lines. Dana seemed to giggle about something, causing a soft grin to appear on the brunette’s face. She nodded her head at her friend's bold choice of words, and how extreme it was to say it at the age of eleven. She smiled, head still bobbing up and down, “I agree! Grand! It is truly grand!” she said, her tone of voice almost mocking the way the girl sounded – old fashion. She quickly laughed a bit, shaking her head lightly before looking out the windows once more.
It wasn’t long into the silence that Dana seemed to freak out, exclaiming something about her robes – or rather, lack thereof. And she quickly looked down before the young blonde tugged at her hand. Sometimes she swore she had two mothers, or maybe three, with the fact that Tia and Dana seemed to act like her mother when her true mother wasn’t around. She rolled her eyes, “Fine—fine!” she said, swatting her friend's hand away after she had already pulled her to her feet. Reaching up she grabbed her trunk and quickly pulled open the front pocket and pulled out her neatly folded clothes in which she had prepared to change into. “I’ll be back,” she said as she left the cart and went in search of a bathroom or something to change into her robes, and it wasn’t long before she returned in her new attire.
She smiled at her friend, did a bit of a twirl that caused her long brunette locks to move with her, “How do I look? Do I look scholarly?” she questioned with a giggle.

Dana Knox couldn’t happen but release a loud giggle, filled with a pot of emotions – excitement, nervousness and even pure joy. As a Half-blood, Hogwarts was expected to be a place to be overjoyed for, but for a Muggle like her friend Tamara was, surely the Finch girl was bursting with feelings. Blue eyes scanned the small train cabin, watching as small olive-coloured hands reached up for an oversized trunk. The blonde had never felt so motherly as Dana stood spotting behind her friend to ensure the trunk wouldn’t fall above her.
Shooing her friend out of the cabin and towards the bathroom, a small smile rested on the eleven-year old’s lips. While so young she felt like a mother to Tamara; always commanding for things between them – while hoping that Dana never stepped any boundaries. As her hands rested on her thighs, they slowly ran up and down her lower body, small amounts of sweat balling up around her hands. She hated her clammy hands. As her focus faded out, blurring the vision from her eyes, the sound from the old-fashioned train blowing off steam made the blonde jump slightly, pulling her out of her thoughts as well as being introduced to a friendly face once more.
Blue eyes met with warm brown ones, the curls in her friend’s hair bouncing as Tamara gave her a twirl as if the two were in a fashion show. Dana giggled once more, bringing her hands together to form multiple excited claps, her giggle replaced by a wide grin. Scholarly? You look incredibly professional!” The Knox girl rose, her small height matching her friends before grabbing at the Finch girl’s hands, squeezing them out of excitement.
”Can you believe we’re almost there? And we’re going together?” Their lives together had been brief in the Muggle school, but was just about to begin in Hogwarts. | 312 words >> notes: sorry for le wait! |

Tamara was filled with so many emotions: excitement, nervousness, joy, fear, anxiety, and curiosity. For all her life, she had believed she was a muggle, that her sister was a muggle, and only a few months prior had they learned differently. They were the first in the Finch family in many centuries to be gifted with the ability of magic. Their family had lost the magic centuries ago, the first squib appearing that ended it all, but it was all still there – and it gifted Tamara and Tia with its grace. And suddenly, she had been thrust into a world outside of her own, but at least she had a friend from before with her. Learning Dana was a witch as well, as shocking to the young brunette, but it meant that she had a friend outside of Tia to be with. And seeing as Tia had gone off on her own, leaving Dana and herself alone in the car, was explanation enough.
She returned a few minutes later, dressed in her new attire that lacked a house, twirling around as the other girl giggled. She began clapping, resulting in a giggle from erupting from the brunette’s lips as she gave a little bow to her friend. The girl spoke excitedly before grabbing her hands and squeezing them, it hurt a little, but she was used to it. “I feel like mom is going to wake me up from this dream any minute,” she breathed out truthfully, “I hope we are in the same house – Tia too!” she said in excitement. It was then that the sound of wheels came from behind them, the yelling of something about a trolley being heard. Tamara turned around, letting go of her friend’s hand, just as the woman stopped at the door.
‘Anything from the trolley?’
Tamara frowned, growing closer and looking at the assortment of goodies, she nodded her head eagerly and plucked a chocolate frog and a red licorice looking thing out before handing over some of the money that she had, thankful that her parents had given her some. “Thank you,” she spoke before returning to Dana.

”Me too!” Were the words that left Dana’s lips. As a young eleven-year-old she only hoped for the best to happen while she attended Hogwarts. The train’s pace seemed to only increased as time passed while the two of them were having fun; especially once Tamara returned in her colourless robes. ”It would be cool if we were all together! For the future and because we’ll have fun!” Even though Tia was nowhere to be found, the Knox knew if the three of them were together for their houses, time in Hogwarts would pass as if it were a breeze. Lost in her thoughts of a planned-out school year, Dana almost didn’t notice the trolley’s squeaky wheels and the loud woman behind it asking if they requested anything from it. ”Oh please!” The younger said, taking her amount of goodies after Tamara did and placed the money in the woman’s hand, thanking her afterwards.
”What do you think it would be like?” Dana questioned as she sat down once more, her teeth chewing upon the different coloured liquorices she had bought. ”My mother always spoke about Hogwarts as a good thing! But…I didn’t know anything about our magic until months before.” Dana frowned at the thought of her father somehow convincing her pureblood mother to keep their background and nature a secret – for a small sign of hope that Dana and her siblings wouldn’t be enrolled into Hogwarts. His plan of course, backfired. And in a matter of a few months, Dana’s mind was filled with every inch of magic and understanding that she could handle.

“Yes! I am so excited!” she exclaimed, the truth dripping from her lips. The idea of all three of them being in the same house together for the next seven years, both sounded like trouble waiting to happen and the best experience of her life. Right after those words left her lips, the trolley had come, and the two girls had gotten their fill before returning to their seats, just as Dana asked what she thought it would be like. She shrugged her shoulder, “Magical?” she questioned with a soft giggle. She wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but she was sure that it would be nothing like their muggle experience.
Tamara found herself eating one of her goodies as Dana revealed that her mother spoke highly of Hogwarts, but she didn’t know about the magic that ran through her veins until months before. “Did you not realize that Hogwarts was a magical place before you learned of your magic?” she questioned with curiosity.

Another giggle left the lips that belonged to Dana Knox once Tamara responded, Dana’s nose crinkling as the room filled with their laughter. The thought of spending seven to eight years with the best-est of friends brought a wide smile to the blonde’s lips, her hands forming small fists as she hit her thighs with excitement. While she had no clue of what to expect, from her mother’s own words – Hogwarts was a place that one could really be themselves. Or something along those lines. A small finger reached up and pressed against the Knox girl’s bottom lip, her eyes looking towards the ceiling as she was lost in thought.
”Nope!” She responded with a soft hum, her arms crossing comfortably. ”Even though my siblings and I are half-bloods, Mum had to keep it as a secret!” The reasoning it behind the secret of their magic had always confused the eleven year old and there were times while Dana was preparing for Hogwarts where she despised her father. She refused to do what he said and found herself falling victim to his strictness rather often. It was the base of her mother’s fights with the muggle-born man but as a young pre-teen there was nothing Dana could do. ”Mum did speak of Hogwarts before though! But used it in stories, so it seemed as if it was made up!”
But none of it was. And the proof came from the constant changes of the scenery from the train window as well as the loud sounds of the Choo-Choo! the train signalled. ”I’m glad I know of it now, I couldn’t stand our normal school a minute longer.” Muggle primary-school was something Dana despised once she became more comfortable in the Magic world many months ago. She hated the differences in the rules and how she had no opportunity to use her magic in the outside realms.

When Dana revealed that her mother had never spoken of Hogwarts before, even though she and her siblings were halfbloods. Tamara found that so weird; it was strange to think that an entire world had been hidden from someone because the parents thought it best. Sure, Tamara was kept in the dark about the wizarding world because of her muggleborn status, but even her parents had not known, she had a reason to be in the dark. What had made her mother keep such a secret? At only eleven-years-old, Tamara was confused about the entire thing but did not voice her confusion.
She was pulled from the thoughts of confusion as Dana revealed that she was glad that she no longer had to attend a normal school, and a smile appeared on Tamara’s face. “Yes—it was getting rather dull,” she said with a giggle. Tamara had grown tired of her education, at least, before she had learned of Hogwarts and she hopes that she won’t grow tired of this education.

It was as if Dana Knox could read the confusion on her friend’s face, resulting with a soft laugh leaving the eleven-year-old’s lips. ”It’s stupid huh?!” She asked, a smile touching her lips. Dana cursed the fact that her mother listened to her father for all those years, leaving the half-bloods to believe that they were just ordinary children. In the shy months of their magical discovery, their home felt lively – with magical toys flying above them all and magic seen all over the household, something to cover up the inward secrets the Knox children faced while their parents argued.
”I agree!” She giggled, finding herself nodding at the same time. ”Mother loved to mention about the Boy who Lived. How he went here!” Harry Potter seemed to be a big inspiration in the Knox Household, mainly to Dana’s mother and now her younger brother.

The brunette laughed and awkwardly nodded her head, rubbing at her neck as if she were scared that Mrs. Knox would be watching from the window. “If I’m honest, it is just a little. Why keep such a world from your children, it’s simply horrid. Are you not mad at your parents?” she questioned, curiosity filling her being. If there was a reason that the secret was kept, she could understand, but what was so bad about this other world that one would keep it away from youth? If her parents had kept this world away from her and her sister, she would have been slightly upset, but from the sounds of it all, it was just Tamara and Tia that was gifted with abilities of magic – something that made their older brother jealous.
When her friend mentioned someone called ‘The Boy Who Lived’ she lightly frowned deeply, she was unsure of what her friend was speaking about. She knew very little about the wizarding world, mainly only what she had been taught by the person that came by to personally deliver the letters and explain that their family was descendants of witches and wizards that had lost their magic through the generations. They were very vague about it all, but from what she learned around Diagon Alley, it was a whole new world of possibilities.
“The Boy Who Lived? Who’s he?” she questioned, tilting her head to the side as if she were a dog hearing a foreign noise.

The question resulted with the Knox girl pressing her lips into a thin line as she let loose in her thoughts. She recalled the first moment she discovered magic, shortly after turning 11 when a strange letter passed through the letter box of her muggle home. The lies and secrets her mother had to express and endure for months bugged the blonde but she knew it was probably for the best. "I was...But mainly at my Mother...A pureblood, allowing my father, who has no magical strength against her...tell her what to say and not say."
It was confusion that stirred Dana's motives to be less social with her parents, more particularly with her Mother. Their reasons behind their secrets was to prevent them from discovering the consequences and dangers that the Magical realm brought with it. Pale blue eyes watched as a frown formed on her friend's face, resulting with her own head cocking to the side out of concern. But Dana realised it was merely her own fault for confusing the brunette, considering she was a muggle-born, new to the world of magic just like the Knox herself.
"The Boy who Lived? One of the most famous people in the Wizard World!" She began, a big grin on her lips. "He fought against a strong Dark Wizard as a young teenager! It's quite historical."

The eleven-year-old watched her friendly closely, taking note of the thin line that her mouth turned into and her faraway look that appeared within her eyes. She waited for her to speak, hoping that she hadn’t upset the blonde in any way for bringing something like this up. Tamara knew Mrs. Woods-Knox and knew her to be a somewhat strong woman in comparison to her husband, but she wasn’t sure she could see her keeping such a secret—wait—maybe she could. Her friend spoke not long after the silence started, saying that she once was, mainly because her mother had kept the secret and her father had no say. She mentioned pureblood and Tamara barely knew what that was; it was something she surely wasn’t. She nodded, “I would be upset too…but luckily my mother isn’t a secretive person,” she said with a soft giggle.
Not long after Tamara, a lost little puppy in this new world questioned her about what she was talking about; she seemed to realize her mistake. Dana was used to this world, somewhat, more than Tamara was anyways. She began to explain that he was famous and had won a fight against a dark wizard when he was only a teenager. She seemed in awe and nodded, “Maybe we’ll learn about him in school…there is a history of magic class—oh this will be a fun school!”

At times things like the question Tamara asked were difficult to answer. She knew the questions she had for her mother and father, but with Hogwarts now entering the Knox’s life – things were rushing. Going a tad too fast. Most of the time the blonde wished she had the knowledge of her magical history many years ago. With a soft laugh, Dana giggled alongside her friend, wanting to enlighten the situation just a little further but instead remained quiet. With what was said, being enough. ”Your Mom is the best person.” She grinned.
In an excitable mood, Dana nodded rather quickly. ”Exactly that!” The things she had heard from her mother in a flurry of bedtime stories as a child to informative things to know during their times book shopping, tailors for robes and even wand shopping – the blonde found out a lot of things. ”I remember before knowing about…Magic and everything…” She paused for a minute, looking out of the window for a brief moment. ”My mother used to tell me stories about him. But twisted it into a fairy tale to make it seem like…It wasn’t real at all.”
