Edmund was on his way to the Quidditch Pitch. It wasn't an entirely surprising thing, since today was Saturday, but he honestly couldn't help himself. It was Hogsmeade weekend, so most of the people were headed there, but he wasn't in the mood today. Today he wanted to fly and get out there with the rush of the wind blowing in his face. Sure, it was more fun when one flew with a friend or with someone else, but it was too late for Edmund to care about that. Right now all he wanted was to get into the air.
He'd almost reached the Pitch when he saw someone ahead of him. Squinting, Ed couldn't figure out who it was, though they looked a bit familiar. They were carrying a broomstick too. Huh. Well at least that meant he wasn't going to be flying alone. "Hey, looks like we both had the same idea," he called, figuring that in the least curiosity would make the person turn toward him. Probably.

Oct. 3rd Adrian had missed Quidditch so much that it almost broke his heart to even walk onto the pitch. He wasn't going to join the team, though, because it was already full and he had a lot of other things to focus on right now... like getting resettled and figuring out what he was doing with his life. Seventh year was already as stressful as he thought it would be, only a month in. A part of him still wanted to play Quidditch after graduating, but he also didn't want too much structure in his life... thinking about a career was blech, so he decided he needed to beat a few bludgers around. He arrived on the pitch and borrowed the gear with help from the flying instructor. Playing with bludgers wasn't necessarily encouraged, but thankfully he was known already for having been on the Gryffindor team before and he knew how to handle them. He hadn't even released the bludger yet when he heard someone speak. He turned around. "Oh, hi Edmund," he greeted with a nod. "Looks like we did,"he grinned. "care to join?"@edmund

After calling out to the person in front of him, Edmund started jogging to try and catch up. He wasn't sure who it was until the guy turned around and then he smiled. He'd recognize a fellow Quidditch-player in an instant, even one who left. "Adrian. Nice to see you back. How is it?" He wasn't sure if the guy actually wanted to come back to Hogwarts, or why he left, but some friendly conversation never hurt anyone, did it? Huh, apparently Edmund changed quite a lot since first year. In a good way.
He nodded. "Oh yeah. What exactly did you have in mind for today?" he saw that the Gryffindor had a bludger container beside him, but was still curious to see what kind of game he wanted, or just a practice, or if Adrian just wanted to mess around with bludgers. Personally Ed was better with the quaffle, but he didn't mind playing with bludgers. It was good practice.

Edmund said it was nice to see him back and Adrian smiled, nodding. "It's been good, I guess. Weird, since I left for just one semester and then my new school... well... got blown up," he said, shaking his head a little. He wasn't really that emotionally attached to Ilvermorny, so he sounded a little too casual talking about it's attack. The hardest part for him was losing his wand that he had gotten here in Europe. That hurt. Ed agreed to play with him, asking what Adrian had in mind. "We could keep score of who can get the ball through the hoops. We could just switch to a Quaffle instead, you use your hands like normal and I'll use my bat," he shrugged. "Or we could both bat with bludgers, either way."@adrian

Edmund nodded as Adrian explained that it was weird, since he just left for one semester. "Did you have enough time to make any real friends at the other school?" He asked curiously. Edmund felt bad that Adrian left just to come back, that the other school was blown up. It reminded him of all the struggles that happened at Hogwarts a few years ago. A part of him wondered whether or not the Ministry was taking precautions to make sure something like that didn't happen now that so many students were at the school.
Adrian suggested a game and Edmund found himself nodding instantly. "That sounds great! How about we warm up with the Quaffle and then maybe we could throw in the Bludgers for more interest?" Either way, Edmund was excited to have someone to play with right now.

Ed asked if he asked any time to make real friends at his other school and Adrian shrugged. "I wouldn't really say so, no," Adrian didn't really make friends quickly in the first place so it wasn't easy. He got along well enough with Bianca, sure, but overall he didn't focus on 'friendship'. He just wanted to get through his classes and keep an eye on his mother as best he could through letters and visits. Really, Adrian was homesick for Hogwarts and let that get the best of him often. Edmund suggested that they start with the quaffle and then move on to bludgers later. Adrian grinned, nodding. It had been a long time since he had played. Americans weren't really that into Quidditch. Adrian moved to the box, quickly strapping the bludger in, setting his bat aside, and grabbed a Quaffle instead. "Your ball," he said, then flew up into the air, ready to intercept Edmund when he tried to make a shot. @edmund

Ed nodded, not super surprised when Adrian said he didn't really have any good friends at Ilvermorny. It wasn't super surprising to Ed, since he'd only been there for a short while. Ed knew he probably wouldn't have made any real friends if he had to leave Hogwarts and go somewhere without Addi, and if he remembered right Adrian and Lily had been pretty close before he left. That had to be hard, to leave your best friend behind. "Yeah, I probably wouldn't have either, if I were in your shoes)
He grinned when the conversation turned to Quidditch. Adrian was definitely ready to play and Ed was ready as well. He caught the Quaffle easily, then rushed to the posts, feigning a throw to the left, when he really threw the Quaffle to the top of the middle hoop. Hopefully Adrian wasn't expecting that.

Ed said he wouldn't have made many friends either at a new school and Adrian shrugged, nodding. That wasn't surprising to Adrian. Edmund Windsor had always sort of kept to himself, or at least just kept to his close friends - just like Adrian. They both had their moments, sure, and Ed was friends with Lily as far as Adrian knew and it was a little hard to stay on the sidelines if Lily was dragging you around. They were up in the air, and Ed caught the Quaffle and they sped toward the posts. Ed zoomed toward him, faking left and throwing the ball toward the top of the middle hoop. Adrian zoomed up, but didn't catch it in time. He swung around the back of the hoop and caught it after Ed had made the goal. "Geez, no wonder you're captain now," Adrian complimented, tossing the ball back toward Edmund so he could make another run. @edmund

“Thanks, I’ve been working hard on that.” Edmund grinned, quite pleased with himself for scoring against Adrian. The last time the two played against one another, it definitely took him more than one try to make a shot against the Gryffindor boy. Still, maybe Adrian was out of practice a little bit. Did they even play Quidditch over in America or was it just their game? Now Ed found himself curious as he caught the ball. “So, did you ever play the American game while you were over there? Quodpot, I think?”
Ed turned and flew away for a second, ready to try again. He darted in, swerving to the right and this time aiming for the hoop on the right instead of trying for a feint. Mostly he was just enjoying the chance to play with someone and not have to teach them what they were supposed to be doing. That was a bit of the hard part of being Quidditch captain. You had to teach everyone how to play their positions, which wasn’t always easy.

Ed said he had been working hard on that move he did and Adrian nodded, "it shows," he complimented. He loved Quidditch, but had decided not to rejoin the team this year even if he was still kind of interested in playing professionally... but he was also very interested in Dragons, and had sort of taken to looking into that lately. Ed asked if Adrian had played Quadpot while in America and Adrian nodded, "yeah, a few times. It's alright - kind of hard to learn a new game when one is so ingrained in you. Did you know in muggle schools they learn all different kind of sports in one of their classes?" he paused, "of course you knew that," duh, Edmund was muggleborn! Ed was coming back toward him and Adrian was more ready this time. However, when Ed curved right Adrian assumed he'd feign and toss left, so Adrian tilted his broom handle to the left in preparation to go that way. But Ed threw right! Adrian sped to the hoop... and caught the ball! He lifted in above his head, "yesss!" he rejoiced. "Okay, my turn to shoot," he suggested. @edmund

Ed smirked when Adrian admitted that he could tell Ed worked on that move. Good. That hopefully meant he'd be able to put it to good use later on in the year during games. He was a little surprised Adrian hadn't rejoined the Gryffindor Quidditch team, but he wasn't going to bring that up. The guy was definitely old enough to make his own decisions and Ed was really just glad that they could play together for fun and practice. He laughed when Adrian talked about muggles and sports. "Yeah. Something about wanting everyone to be able to play, at least on some level." Unsurprisingly, Ed's mind returned to Quodpot quicky. "Does the quaffle really explode?" he asked after a moment, wondering if maybe the transfers were just saying that to get the wow factor or something.
His next shot wasn't as big of a success as the first, but he could tell that he had done the unexpected. Adrian barely was able to stop it. He laughed, "Nice job, mate." Ed nodded, flying over to the hoops at his friend's suggestion. "Sounds good to me. Bring it," he imitated an American accent, laughing as he did so.

Adrian nodded as Ed explained that the muggle curriculum wanted everyone to be able to play. "I wonder how many different wizarding sports there are, too. Kind of odd that both schools really only focused on one each," he said. he didn't know what kind of games the other schools played, but he wondered if there were more games that he didn't know about. What if there was something out there he'd love more than Quidditch but he was just never introduced to it? That was kind of a sad thought. Adrian smirked, nodding at Ed's next question, "sure does. Well, the ball is called the Quod, but same difference," Adrian explained. Ed complimented Adrian on his catch and then invited him to 'bring it' in terms of taking a shot - using an American style accent. Adrian laughed, "you have no idea how much people actually say that," Adrian confirmed. Then, he flew away, just twenty or thirty feet, in order to think about how he was going to approach. He flew a little farther back and then spun around, hurtling himself toward Edmund. His plan was to get his body as close to Edmund as he dared on the left side and then toss the ball upward toward the middle hoop over Ed's head... @edmund

Ed's eyebrows furrowed when Adrian mentioned how many different wizarding sports there were. "That .. is a good point. I've never really thought about anything other than Quidditch, until all these Americans started coming to Hogwarts." The thought hadn't even occurred to Ed, though he wasn't super surprised by it. He was pretty caught up with Quidditch on its own, and didn't know if he could handle other sports as well. Though now that it was mentioned ... he was a little curious to learn about them. He shook his head when Adrian confirmed that the "Quod" did in fact explode. "Crazy Americans," he told Adrian, rolling his eyes a little. They liked explosions a little too much for Ed's liking.
Adrian told him that Americans actually said that and Edmund laughed, "I'd blend right in," he answered in an obviously sarcastic voice. He watched as the other boy flew away and then started speeding toward him. Ed watched him carefully, trying to figure out what Adrian was going to do. It seemed ... like he was going for the furthest hoop. Ed moved that way, only realizing at the last second that Adrian actually went for the middle hoop. The Quaffle went through and Ed groaned a little. "So much for my amazing keeping skills," he quipped before moving to catch the Quaffle. Oh well, he was a chaser for a reason.

Ed agreed that he had never really thought of anything other than Quidditch until the Americans came and started talking about Quadpot. There were a lot of countries, schools and a lot of magical people. There had to be hundreds of games out there they didn't even know about. Heck, maybe Adrian would even be better at a different one. "I just think we should have a 'magical sports' class, where we can learn a little about a lot of them," he suggested. Ed rolled his eyes, saying the Americans were crazy for having an exploding game. Adrian nodded, "indeed. Crazy. But I kind of enjoyed it," he admitted. Adrian liked excitement and a good adrenaline rush. Ed said he'd blend right into the Americans. "You would!" Ad agreed. Then, somehow, Edmund didn't block his shot. "Woaah! And I did that without a bat! It's a miracle," he chuckled as Edmund went for the ball. @edmund

Adrian started explaining how he thought that having a magical sports class would be cool, a neat way to learn more about different games. Ed thought about it for a second and then nodded slowly. After all, before he realized he had magic and came to Hogwarts, the idea of playing a game with broomsticks, throwing a ball through hoops would have seemed ridiculous to him. "I think that would be cool. It would be neat to be able to learn to play them also. Maybe not go so far as to have real teams for them or anything, but more as a cultural experience," he suggested, though Ed knew that he would likely want a team if he enjoyed the sport. He was a little surprised when Adrian admitted that he liked it. "Huh. Well maybe you should set up something and give the rest of us Brits the chance to play." What? If Adrian liked it, maybe Ed would too, or others who enjoyed their sport so much.
Ed chuckled when the Gryffindor agreed that he would blend right in. Yeah right. Still, it was a funny idea, an English Prince fitting in with the Americans. Not that Ed would really mind that, per se. He rolled his eyes at Adrian's reaction to making the shot. "Yeah yeah, good job mate. Have another go," he tossed the ball toward Adrian and prepared himself in front of the hoops.
