hello there, my name is opeli fawley but you can call me O, or Opi. i'm an adult and 20 so that makes me a graduate at hogwarts. You could say I'm intelligent, knowledgeable, & witty but I personally think that I am happy, intelligent, and clumsy. People say I look a lot like Emily Rudd, but I don't really see it...

O, or Opi.
date of birth:
April 23rd, 2004
gender & pronouns:
Homeschooled 1-5th years. Hogwarts Ravenclaw 6-7th.
Merlin's Mystical Magical Museum - Assistant Curator
10 inches, unicorn hair, hornbeam
Opeli is a fairly thin and petite young woman, standing at exactly five feet in height. Her hair is naturally quite dark, but she has lightened it to a light brown/dirty blonde and she prefers to keep it cut short. Her eyes are an intense shade of blue with a inquisitive glint to them.
winter nights spent in front of a fireplace
History (both magical and nonmagical)
sports (playing them, watching them, etc.)
'soft sciences' (basically anything that is left to interpretation.)
people moving around to much.
To someday head up the museum.
old books, chamomile, coffee
Opeli is deathly afraid of insects and bugs.
Opeli is one of those people that always seems to have a smile on her face, and sees the world in a fair better light then it actually is. She is someone who is almost always happy, and cheerful despite having a few bad experiences growing up. The young woman is generally just the sort to see the bright side of things and doesn't try to hide it. Her emotions are worn on her sleeve.
Opeli is a clumsy individual, but there's a valid reason for that. See, Opeli has Akinetopsia, also known as motion blindness. It isn't a case where she actually is blind. It's not a problem with her eyes, it's more like the transmission is messed up when reaching her mind. She sees it, but can't process what it means. So movement is seen more like a cinematic reel to her. Obviously, this makes it quite difficult to function in many cases. She's had to learn to adapt to the world, though she still struggles in quite a few situations. But, due to her nature she's the sort of girl that can laugh at her own mistakes and faults.
Despite her sight issues, Opeli is a highly intelligent, highly logical, individual. To the point where calling her highly intelligent is actually an understatement. While practical application of her knowledge is difficult due to her sight, she has an almost eidetic memory, retaining anything and everything she learns. Consuming knowledge is a passion of hers, learning more, and more, and more. She's the sort of person that absorbs knowledge better than a sponge absorbs water. But it's not just absorbing knowledge, it's also a capacity to understand what she's learning.

Opeli was born the fourth girl in the Fawley family, and she was by no means the last. In many ways she was both a middle child, and an eldest born due to the circumstances of her... unusual family. See, her father had previously married another woman and had three girls. They divorced, which is when her father married her mother. Four years younger than the youngest of the other girls, there was enough of an age gap that Opeli wasn't able to play with her older sister's much due to varying interests. Even at a young child though Opeli preferred books over toys. In fact, it was very clear from the time she developed motor skills that she had little interest in the usual kid activities. Flashing lights, moving parts, etc, none of it mattered to her. It was almost as if she didn't see it. Her eyes were slow to follow people, she didn't play with other kids, nothing. She was a very, very unusual child. But, considering the state of her family her oddities were often ignored. Because only a few years after her birth, two more girls followed. This brought the Fawley family to six children. Around that same time as well, her parents divorced and her father remained yet again.
Opeli sight issues became more prominent when she was around five years old. An age where most would be exploring the world, developed enough to be seeking independence. But Opeli only seemed to become even more of a bookworm and her clumsiness and lack of response to the world grew worse. It was also around this age that she should have only just begun learning to read, but Opeli was already quite literate at the time. It was then that her mother, despite her father having custody, finally convinced him and his new wife to have Opeli checked out by a healer. At the age of five, Opeli was diagnosed with Akinetopsia. The girl mentally didn't process movement. This was a difficult diagnosis to swallow. Because it meant that Opeli would have struggles her entire life. Even the simple task of attending Hogwarts would prove to be an extremely difficult task.
More siblings (mostly sisters, but one brother) followed the next several years. Despite her unusual sized family, life was... normal? For a child, Opeli didn't know much different. Due to her interests and... ailment she was a sheltered child. She didn't have many, or any actually, friends outside her siblings. But even her own siblings she was an odd one out due to none of them being close to her own age. The youngest siblings were all born within a few years of each other, as were her older sisters. Leaving her in no man's land. Opeli didn't mind though. She had her books. Plenty of books. She'd begun reading far younger than most children, and she was reading at a far higher level. But, with each year she grew it was obvious she was more than just a bookworm. She was shockingly intelligent, to the point where it'd actually be terrifying if she was a malicious person. Thankfully it was quite the opposite. She was a very happy and kind hearted child. Could talk your ears off with facts and information though.
Life first changed when Opeli was eleven. Old enough to attend Hogwarts. The problem was? Due to her sight situation attending Hogwarts was not the best option. Despite her three older sisters attending the school it was decided that Opeli would be homeschooled. She'd require a special instruction structure since classroom learning that required practical application was out of the question. She'd never be able to succeed in a typical Charms class, because she'd never be able to follow. So, her father, since money was no issue, hired a private tutor to handle all her schooling. A retired Professor with years of teaching experience. She'd just begun her homeschooling when something else shook the family. Opeli's oldest sister caused... quite a scandal. At least, that's what she was told. Being only eleven at the time, Opeli wasn't given much detail on the situation but from what the girl did understand it had to do with a muggle and Laurel getting pregnant. Something her father had a very strong opinion about. He was what many called a 'Blood Purist', someone who identified very strongly with being a Pureblood and felt very strongly about his children's blood purity. He was also quite conservative. So, even as a child she knew Laurel's.. situation was quite serious, to the point that Laurel was disowned by her father. Unfortunately, being homeschooled meant that Opeli had to practically disown Laurel as well. She was constantly under the thumb of her father or her private tutor... Who worked for her father. So she was never able to reach out to Laurel while being home schooled.
Being homeschooled was a challenge, and a blessing. She had access to more and more books, which she inhaled. But learning the spells and the motions was a challenge. Her tutor was patient though. The years passed, and Opeli learned. She had to develop a very unique way of learning, but she learned. And by the time she was 16 her tutor believed that she was ready to attend Hogwarts. To finish her sixth and seventh year with students her age. This was also quite important because those were the NEWT years, vital to her future.
Attending Hogwarts was... surreal. Challenging, very challenging. But the library! She spent almost all her time in the library. Despite having a rocky start Opeli adapted and began to flourish. And she was able to graduate with very high marks, her only deductions in scores coming from spell application.
After graduation Opeli was presented with a unique situation. Her father, obsessed with blood purity revealed his intent to contact Blishwick Matchmaking and find a suitable Pureblood to marry her off to. As if that was all she was good for. To be married off and make Pureblood babies. Something that Opeli had little desire for. She'd seen her father go through marriages like they were nothing. Marriage, love, what did any of it even mean? Why did it even matter? Her father's intentions only solidified Opeli's decision that love, romance, marriage, none of it was for her. So, without her father and stepmother's knowledge, Opeli began applying for jobs. Almost immediately she heard back from a Museum, interested in interviewing her for an assistant curator position. THey'd been impressed by her high History of Magic scores, and upon meeting her, they realized she was an extremely intelligent young woman with a vast amount of knowledge. She was offered the position, with a signing bonus. With that bonus she was able to afford a small apartment. All of which she managed to do under her father's nose. So that when she did tell him and her step mother about it it was already too late. She was able to get out from her father's roof by that evening and hasn't looked back since.
The past few years, Opeli has been focused on her work. Despite the changes in the world around her. She knew vaguely what was happening from her siblings, but none of it really affected her in Wales. She had her work, plenty of work, to keep her busy.
site events reaction:
Opeli had already graduated by the time Hogwarts first started to come under attack via muggleborn murders. These events fell during a time when she was consumed with her new work, and she was obsessed with finally living her dream. She was quite tunnel visioned, so any information she received was from her many siblings. While it was horrible to think, she wasn't too worried about he siblings because most of the assumptions were that pureblood were considered safe. While her blood rank had never mattered much to Opeli, this was the first time she ever truly felt proud to be a pureblood.
The Tri-wizard tournament wasn't quite as ignored though. It was a historical event after all! Sure, it wasn't exactly the sort of thing she enjoyed watching (because she can't actually watch it.), but she loved reading the news articles about the events. The unfortunate departures of the Beauxbaton and Durmstrang students felt very much like an accident to her, and unrelated to the previous years events. Elaine Dupree had been quiet for months, after all! Ever since Desirae was killed by the ministry the 'Purifiers' had been quiet.
And then, Ilvermorny. Despite having never been to America or even seen the school the vandalism of a Magical school was a heavy blow for Opeli. For someone who thirsted after knowledge, the fact that people were willing to destroy a historical site and so much knowledge was truly upsetting. Much like how the student murders was ignored though, Ilvermorny students being sent to Hogwarts fell on deaf ears as she threw herself into her work. Some of the Ilvermorny artifacts and relics were sent to the Museum for identification after all! Maybe she could help save some of that precious knowledge.
