The last few weeks of summer had completely flown by for Irina Krum. She had started her search for a room in London, only to reconnect with an acquaintance from Hogwarts, Tia Finch, who just so happened to have a room free in her new flat. Irina used to be quite the skeptic on fate and destiny, but since her clairvoyant powers had awoken the last month of her sixth year, she was more keen to believe in it. She had eagerly signed the papers necessary and had moved all her stuff into the small bedroom yesterday evening. Irina had been hoping for some time to settle in, but the day before the initial move in date, she had been sent on a training mission to Tibet for two weeks, shadowing her mentor and getting a first hand look into the world of Cursebreaking. The mission had been successful, and it had given the Gryffindor alum great pride to stand with her mentor while she was commended on a job well done. She had come away from the trip feeling confident in her choice to become a Cursebreaker, and that the profession was meant for her. Even her mother was beginning to come around to the idea, which said a great deal to Irina. Still, she had a lingering feeling that this was all too good to be true; nothing ever went this easily, something was bound to mar this perfection, right? She hated having that thought in her head, but she supposed it came with the territory of starting a new job off on the right foot. Either that, or she was simply going mad. Today though, she was starting her vacation, her first real time away with Daniel, her boyfriend and she didn’t have to think about work at all. An entire month, just the two of them, biking and camping across Europe. They had chosen the month of September instead of the summer months, mostly due to their competing work schedules, but also with the added benefit of the nights would be cooler and less humid. Irina was so excited to scratch her travel itch, which had just been made worse from her training trip. She knew soon enough she’d be traveling regularly as a fully trained Cursebreaker, but there would be no breaking of curses on this trip, unless absolutely necessary. Personally, she wanted to see the ‘real’ parts of the country, parts that tourists merely skimmed over brushing off in favor of more popular attractions, and her zest for history would help them do just that. With kisses and farewells from her parents, Irina grabbed the handles of her baby blue bike and Apparated to a clearing near Dan’s apartment, where they had arranged to meet. After a quick stop in Dan’s apartment, where she had been reunited with Adrian Greyback of all people, she walked back outside. As she looked around slowly to take in the scenery, she inhaled deeply, a smile creeping onto her face. Dan was due back from practice soon, but Irina wanted to test out her bikes capabilities on the dirt paths. She placed her bag down against a boulder and hopped onto her bike, adjusting the seat so that it was comfortable for longer journeys. She began pedaling, delighted to find that the bikes tires were perfectly equipped for handling the dirt and grass covered clearing. A peal of laughter escaped her lips as she rode around in circles, losing track of everything except the path in front of her. This was wonderful, this was magical, this was… Perfect. @daniel

Dan was definitely a little nervous about going on vacation with Irina. Not because he didn't want to be around er, of course. Just because he knew vacations had their own set of challenges - whether they be dealing with stressful situations or positive ones, he knew that emotions ran high on vacations. He hoped he could embrace the whole 'relaxing' part of it, and being mostly on bicycle and camping around would help a lot. He'd be comfortable enough and active, which was important. Even though he was nervous, he was excited too. More excited than nervous. He tried to stay focused at practice, but his teammates could definitely tell he was anxious to get going. As soon as he was set free, he rushed back home in order to gather the last of his things before meeting Irina in the field, bike and pack ready. She was already there, laughing and riding around in circles. He chuckled, lifting a hand to wave when her bike turned his direction. "Don't wear yourself out too soon, love," he called to her. Irina turned, and her smile grew as she spotted Daniel waving towards her. “Wear myself out? I have way too much energy to be worn out so easily,” she exclaimed, cycling towards him before coming to a slow stop and hopping off her bike. “Hi,” she said, leaning forward to peck him on the lips. She reached down into her pack and procured an antique hand mirror, its’ casing made of ivory and silver. “So I got the letter from the Department of Magical Transportation, and gave them the dates and countries we were planning on going. In return, they’ll have Portkeys set up for us with coordinates in remote locations some distance from the cities. So not only will they be away from Muggles, but also perfect camping spots.” She had been rather surprised to learn how much the Ministry could help set up their travels; she had just been planning on studying a photograph of where they wanted to go and hoped they’d find their way there. It could have been more fun that way, and she wasn’t a huge fan of the Ministry knowing their location, but this way was safer and ensured they got to see everywhere they wanted to see. Irina held out the mirror as it began to glow, and as soon as Dan laid his own hand on it, away they went, Irina not too happy about the jerking sensation around her navel. In what seemed like both an eternity and an instant, they were back on solid land, albeit Irina’s legs were a bit shaky. Taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly, Irina could smell the salty sea breeze, taste it on her tongue. They had arrived in a copse of trees, the weather just a few degrees warmer than London, but the seagulls crying up overhead indicated the closeness of the sea. Irina turned to her boyfriend and smiled. “Welcome to Portugal!” she said, gesturing around their very first international destination together as a couple. “Shall we explore?” she asked, taking the handlebars of her bike eagerly. @daniel here is where they landed

She said she had too much energy to be worn out so easily and he chuckled, shrugging, "I guess that's true," he agreed. She stopped in front of him, hopping off her bike and greeting him witha short kiss. "Hello," he replied softly, smiling. Her adrenaline and excitement was like a breath of fresh air running through him, and he felt more relaxed than he had only moments ago. She spoke about the Portkeys and he nodded, glad for the help. It only made sense the Ministry would want to assure safe travels for people going into muggle territory, anything to protect the Statute of Secrecy, right? Dan reached out to touch the mirror as well, assuming that it was the first Portkey she was talking about. Considering the face that it was glowing and that she was holding it out and all. He didn't mind the sensation of travelling by Portkey, actually. Anything was better than some other sensations he had felt in the past. Plus, he liked the rush that came from nothing but just magic. That was always comforting to him. The appeared at their first destination, their belongings all beside them and their hands still on the mirror. 'Welcome to Portugal! she said, and he released the mirror, other hand still on his own back, to glance around. "Wow," he said softly. It was stunning here. And, of course, not a soul in sight. She asked if they should explore and he turned toward her, grinning, "what else would we do?" he teased. Irina Rose Krum

Irina was itching to explore the capital city they had just landed in, and merely nodded as Dan voiced his awe in his first impressions of the country. Though when he teased her about what they would do instead of explore, a multitude of ideas popped into her head, but she decided to play out one in particular. Focusing her energy on feeling calm, she turned to face her boyfriend and said, quite frankly. “Well I was hoping to perform a necromancy ritual, but that does require the blood of a newborn, six virgins and to be done under the cover of night.” Irina blinked once, then started laughing. “Sorry, of course we can go explore! We just want to get back before nightfall to set up the tent so we can at least sort of see what we’re doing,” she said with a bemused grin on her face. She set down her pack and the tent and reduced the size to put them in her purse, so that it was easier to carry around. “You can put yours in here too if you want, so you don't have to carry it,” she offered, slinging the back across her body, readjusting slightly to make it more comfortable. Irina slipped her fingers between his and squeezed lightly. “Right then, let’s see if Lisbon can handle us,” she said teasingly, swinging their hands back and forth before taking the lead down the hill. After some time, they reached the edge of the park, where the small town of Sintra lay before them. “I got some pamphlets about traveling like Muggles do - the rep I spoke with at the Ministry said it’s the best way to get around unfamiliar cities that we are unsure of where to Apparate to,” she told him, pulling out a thick wad of glossy covered pamphlets. “We just have to remember this place, so we can get back easily tonight,” she added, glancing back over at the high stone castle-like walls of the park. This certainly wasn’t a place she’d forget easily. “Right - to the train!” she declared. Irina was very relieved the Ministry had included their first set of train tickets to the city proper, since it wasn’t remote enough for them to arrive at by magic, so she didn’t have to purchase anything from the weird looking things that seemed to spit out peoples tickets. The train ride went relatively smoothly - Irina had experience with trains at least - and it let them out at a station called Santa Apolónia. By then, Irina was teeming with anticipation; it had been forty minutes since they had boarded the train, and being so used to magical transportation, she wasn’t used to waiting to see things. As they stepped out into the afternoon sunlight, Irina used a free hand to shade her eyes as she got her first glimpse of the city. Cafes and restaurants lined the cobblestone streets, with funny looking train cars rumbling by attached to a sort of wire overhead. “Fascinating,” Irina breathed, then looked over at Dan. “What first?” she asked, then heard her stomach rumble. “Food?” she requested, pulling a pouty puppy dog face so he’d agree. @daniel

She suggested that they perform a necromancy ritual, countering his sarcastic question about what else they would do there. His eyes widened as she explained how this was to be done, a small smile breaking onto his lips as her sense of amusement wafted toward him. Then she laugh, saying that they could, of course, explore as long as they were back before nightfall. Really, they could easily make light - being magic and all - but he got the point. "Well, that's fine. As long as we don't do that necromancy thing when we get back," he faux shuddered, then chuckled. Dan shrugged at her offer to put his stuff in her purse and followed suit, shrinking his down and then slipping it into the bag. She then took his hand, and he gave her hand a squeeze back. "Doubt it," he agreed, when she asked if Lisbon could 'handle' them. They started down the hill and Irina spoke about the way they should transport themselves around here. "Okay, seems simple enough," he normally might have been a little worried, but her confidence was radiating through her fingers and it was impossible to not be confident about anything. Then they were on the train. Dan loved trains, aside from them often being crowded. Luckily, it wasn't too full at that time of day. Then they were at their destination, and Dan kept a tight hold on Irinas hand. Not just because he loved holding it, but also because she was so confident and excited that it was making his anxiety about travelling dissipate. When Irina turned to him with those puppy dog eyes Dan shook his head, smiling a little. He stopped the shaking and nodded, leaning forward to kiss the tip of her nose. "Food it is," really he'd do whatever she wanted, and there was never anything wrong with a meal. Irina Rose Krum

Irina was relieved Dan so readily agreed to get food first; her stomach was growling and she had heard great things about the food in Portugal. She led the way, pausing to look at menus that were handed to them as they passed, before settling on an outdoor restaurant on one of the cobblestone streets. Irina tilted her face towards the sun and closed her eyes, a small smile playing at her lips. The still warm breeze ruffled through her hair and she opened her eyes to look over at Dan. “Your eyes look really blue in this light,” she commented, then smiled a little shyly. She didn’t know why she felt a little shy all of a sudden; perhaps it was the fact that this was their first vacation away, or the first time they’ve been alone together for more than a few hours since getting back together. Whatever it was, Irina felt the nervously excited butterflies that Dan had given her last year when she had realized she fancied him. It was crazy how much could change in a year - to Irina it felt like it had been much longer than that. She supposed that was the beauty of their relationship; they didn’t have to go through the stages of getting to know one another on a regular level because they had known each other for years. Instinctively, she reached up to fiddle with the heart shaped pendant she wore, a gift from Daniel the night things had ended the first time. At first she had worn it as a reminder that true love was possible, and now? Well, it just didn’t feel right without it safely clasped around her neck. The waiter came over with two glasses of a fizzy drink Irina could only assume was champagne. He said a few things in Portuguese, none of which she understood, but then he winked and walked away. Amused, Irina turned to Dan and lifted up one of the glasses by the stem. “I am assuming these are for us because we are just so dashingly good looking,” she joked. Clearing her throat, she raised her glass to touch his. “To the start of a new adventure,” she toasted. Taking a sip of the liquid, she recognized the bubbles as champagne, a drink she had snuck at her parents New Years Eve party the year before last on a dare. She looked down the cobblestone street, where the sun was beginning to dip lower in the sky . “Let’s head up the seven hills after this; I can only imagine what the sunset would look like from there,” she suggested, eyes shining with anticipation. She knew it was corny to be excited to watch the sunset with her gorgeous boyfriend, but she was on vacation! Besides, a little cheese never hurt anyone. @daniel

As they arrived at the restaurant, Dan was happy to sit outside. Irina knew well that he didn't like confined spaces with lots of people in them. Somehow the fresh air just made them all seem farther away. Plus, he just loved the outdoors in general. Dan glanced at the menu but was then distracted by watching Irina face the sun. He smiled, then she looked at him and said his eyes looked really blue in the light. He shrugged, "that's nothing compared to how good your everything looks in this light. Can't just pick one thing," he reached forward and tapped her collar bone," "maybe that," he smirked. Her emotions of bashfulness and butterflies washed over him. As her hand reached up to feel the necklace his own emotions of guilt overpowered him, but he wasn't sure why he felt guilty, she wasn't exuding anger. If anything she was exuding love. He was glad she couldn't feel HIS emotions. He wasn't sure if he'd ever stop feeling guilty. Drinks arrived and Dan's eyes turned to the waiter. The guys emotions were pleasant and maybe a bit mischievous - but in a fun way? Dan took the other glass when Irina spoke and laughed, "yes, obviously that's the reason. Our looks have carried us this far in life," he agreed. He raised his glass and nodded at her toast, clinking them together. "Adventure," he said. She got a lot of that being a cursebreaker. Sure, Quidditch was nice and adventurous too, but different. She then suggested they go up the seven hills and he followed her gaze down the street. "Okay! I mean, if you think you can handle it," he challenged. Irina Rose Krum

Irina felt chills, the good kind of chills, run down her spine as he tapped her collarbone gently. “You’re just saying that,” she said with a smile. She took a sip of her champagne, making sure to go slowly so she could savor her drink. She also knew alcohol and Dan’s ability didn’t get along too well, so she didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable in any sense of the word. “And yes, adventure. Don’t think I’ll be the only adventuring one in this relationship Danny-boy. You’ll get selected for the Germany league team for the World Cup and you’ll be traveling all over the world, being adored by your many fans…” Irina trailed off, pretending to swoon over from being seated next to a professional Quidditch player. “You know, normal human stuff,” she added casually, hiding her laughter behind her hands. Their food arrived and over the next hour they ate with gusto, or at least Irina did. Hey, she was in a brand new country and their food was delicious; she wasn’t about to let any go to waste! Finally, they were finished and had paid the check, just sipping on water to cleanse the palate. Irina eyed the setting sun, and raised an eyebrow in Dan’s direction. “Shall we?” she suggested, standing up and offering her hand to help him up. “I’d say let’s race up those hills, but with all the cobblestone I’d worry about twisting an ankle,” she half-joked. Irina and Dan had always been competitive as children, and though the competition had obviously lessened when they started dating, it was still there from time to time. “Okay, we can do this!” she said confidently. Making her way up the hill, Irina started to see why people took those trolley things up and down; the climb was a killer workout in itself! “Well at least my bum is going to be super toned after this city,” she muttered, not really sure if Dan could hear her or not. At long last, and only slightly out of breath, they reached the top of the hill, just in time to watch the sun sink behind the sealine. “Wow,” Irina breathed, her arm snaking around Dan’s waist as he came up next to her. She automatically leaned her head into the crook of his neck, just taking in the scene. “This is….there are no words,” she said softly, then went quiet, enjoying the beauty of the setting rays as they danced across the sky and sea. @daniel BEHOLD

She said that he was 'just saying that' and he shook his head, "oh no, my darling. I don't just say' anything. Well... unless I say 'I'm Just Saying' beforehand..." he teased. Dan only sipped a little of his drink for the toast and wasn't planning on drinking any more. It was good, sure, but he wasn't really about that, as she well knew. She said that she wouldn't be the only one adventuring because he'd be selected for the Germany League Team. He rolled his eyes, "sure, and pigs will start to play Quidditch," he added. Then he pointed at her, "those pigs will be my only fans," he said firmly. "And you. Obviously. Hence the swoon."Dan too ate with the gusto. He was quite hungry and wanted to carb up before the hike. Then said hike happened, well... almost a hike. It was cobblestone so that was a little strange. "No racing, then. I dont' want to twist anything either," he said. "Plus all that food and running... not smart," he added. "Next hike, we'll race," he promised. It was a lot harder than he expected, and when she spoke about being toned he was almost too out of breath to answer - almost. "Nothing wrong with that," he said with a nod of his head and a wicked smirk. She reached the top before him, just by mere seconds, and as she took his waist he rested his arm around her shoulders. He nodded at her exclamation of the view but said nothing. Her, and the other people at the hill, were so in awe, humbled and touched by the scene that their emotions were like a flowing river of hot chocolate streaming down his throat and into is stomach. He felt his eyes start to sting and shook his head, "geez louise," he muttered. Irina Rose Krum(be impressed i type this with a baby on my chest hahah)

Irina swatted in his direction at his cheeky comment. “That’s enough out of you,” she said teasingly, though she felt like she was glowing from the compliment. She was surprised yet pleased to see the space they had hiked up to was moderately empty; a few elderly couples were milling about, plus a family with children, but other than those people, there was plenty of room. She was glad; she knew kids could get over-excited and hyperactive, which in turn would mess with Daniels’ emotions, but these kids in particular seemed to be well-behaved. She glanced up and saw a slight reflection in his eyes; they were watering, Irina realized with a start. She didn’t say anything however, she just raised her free hand to her shoulder where his was and squeezed it gently. That was the nature of their relationship; words didn’t have to be spoken for them to understand each other. After the sun had dipped below the mountainous horizon, Irina finally spoke up. “Well, now that it’s nighttime, we have a few options. We can go to a Fado evening, with traditional Portuguese music, we can go to a nightclub, which I know is your number one choice,” she began, adding in the last quip as a tease. “Or we can head back to the campsite, and make some smores and hot chocolate. Your choice.” Once they got back to the campsite, the decision that had been nagging Irina in the back of her mind since they’d set up the tent would come to pass. The tent had two bedrooms, one for each of them if they so desired. However, it wasn’t as if the two of them were saints; they had been intimate with one another. Irina knew Daniel wasn’t going to pretend as if any of that never happened; he had sent her a snowglobe with an igloo inside as a reminder. But...well, the idea of being intimate again hadn’t exactly come up in conversation, and Irina honestly wasn’t sure how to approach it. It was strange; one would expect it would be easy, but was anything ever truly easy? Irina tried to ease her mind, waiting for Dan to make up his mind about where they’d go next. @daniel

Time seemed to slow down as they watched the sun slowly dissipate. He was glad there weren't many people up there right now, at least not anyone acting to crazy. He almost felt like he didn't have his ability - because it seemed to him that he and Irina were sharing the same emotion, so that meant it just felt like he was feeling his own. It was a nice feeling. Then she spoke, and he was slightly startled. He looked to her as she gave the suggestions, rolling her eyes at the one about the night club.He pursed his lips to one side, taking his hand back and folding his arms as he thought. "I thiiiink keep it simple for our first night, maybe Fado tomorrow. And the nightclub never," he answered, chuckling with some amusement. "A snuggled evening sounds perfect. If that's cool with you?" Why did he all the sudden feel nervous? Not like scared nervous but... something nervous. Not necessarily bad. Irina Rose Krum

Relief flooded Irina's senses and her shoulders relaxed slightly. She didn't know why she had been nervous to suggest that; perhaps it was because it was their first time they'd be truly alone, no interruptions. She understood that Maria needed a place to stay, that what had happened to her was unspeakable. But it was difficult when Dan lived in a studio with her, and Irina's place had her two roommates. Not that they'd ever try to interfere, but it wasn't quite the same. "That sounds perfect," she said, squeezing his hand in confirmation. She glanced around; now that the sun had set the people up in their spot had thinned out substantially. "Come on, I think it'll be safe to Apparate from over there," she told him, nodding to a dark corner near a restaurant where loud folk music was now playing. A quick trip, and an unpleasant sensation in her stomach later, they were back at their campsite. A flick of her wand, and the firepit was crackling merrily with flames. "I'll get the stuff," she told him, before disappearing into the tent. She looked briefly towards the two bedrooms, doors closed and took a breath. She gathered up the sausages, marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers, before ducking back outside. "Sausages first, or smores?" she asked him, sitting down on a log next to the fire. The night had gotten cool, and Irina was glad for the warmth the crackling flames provided. @daniel

Dan let her lead him to a place to apparate, fine with not walking back. They were back at the campsite and they separated as she went into the tent. Dan stayed outside, moving a log near the fire for them to sit on and getting the fire started, stoking it as she came out and asked what they wanted to start with. Irina sat down and he moved to sit beside her, nudging his shoulder against hers, "smores, I think. And I'm trying really hard to think of a dirty joke about the sausages but I just," he shook his head, "I'm not creative enough," he sighed, then laughed - though it was a bit of a nervous sound. Irina looked at him, then burst out laughing. “You, make a dirty joke?” she asked, trying to stifle her laughter. “Sorry it’s just….Merlin I’d love to hear that one day. You know, when you can come up with one. I have faith in you,” she said, nudging him lightly with her shoulder. She set the package of sausages aside - dessert came first when one was on vacation - then proceeded to select two sticks that would do well for them to roast the marshmallows on. She handed one to Dan then stuck a marshmallow on hers, promptly sticking it right into the crackling flames. “I always like burning mine to a crisp on the outside, I think it gives it that nice woodsy flavor with the gooey inside,” she explained, watching delightedly as her marshmallow took flame. She waited a few seconds, then blew out the fire. “Okay, smore time,” she said excitedly, taking a pair of graham crackers and chocolate and easing the marshmallow off the stick. Eager, she bit into it immediately, which she instantly regretted. “Oh gods that’s hot,” she said, fanning her mouth and searching frantically for the water. @daniel
