It had been quite a long day, and frankly Ophelia wasn't looking to talk to anyone after what she'd been through today. To the outside eye, it might have just appeared like a normal, stressful day of classes, but today her senses felt overwhelmed and overloaded. There were so. many. people. Like, holy shit. And she thought there were enough when it was just Hogwarts students alone. The Ilvermorny Americans might've already been here a couple weeks, but Ophelia still refused to see them as her peers and so she often avoided talking to them, and God forbid that they ask her for help. You should've taken the time to look around when you first arrived, she wanted to tell them, snootily, as if she was the master of the castle. Maybe she was the only person who'd taken the time to do so-- she doubted that all the Hogwarts students knew their places well. She threw down her bag by the fire and plopped into one of the plush royal-blue armchairs in the common room, sinking into it as if trying to meld herself with the furniture. Closing her eyes, she could, for a minute, pretend that everything was back to normal and that her home wasn't being invaded by strangers. Her headache, which had started to come on during her last class, was starting to fade just a tad as she was heading back to the Ravenclaw room. No one stopped to chat with her on the way, and although she had waved to a couple friends from other houses her face, on which she had not bothered to try and hide her exhaustion, was probably off-putting enough to convey the message that Ophelia wanted to be left alone. She hoped no one would be dumb enough to approach her. Most people in her house knew by now not to bother her, not when she looked so brooding and moody by the fireplace. While it had been a few weeks since Zenevieva began her first year in Hogwarts, but sixth overall, the realisation of change and how to adapt to change confused her severely. From the changes soon came the start of the Novell girl’s anxiety and Zen’s form of panicking and worrying for situations was more so on the inside, while the outside a stern frown and a furrowed brow would be present on her face. Considering as of lately – or more so at the start of the year – Zenevieva noticed more and more people from her old school: Ilvermorny. It wasn’t until one owl from her aunt informed her that Ilvermorny had been destroyed and most of the students transferred to Hogwarts itself. With the information sunk in and her own research done, Zen prayed she wouldn’t see Bianca.
Now, enrolled within the Ravenclaw household, Zenevieva was usually found with a book in her hand, either from her favourite authors or based on one of her previous classes, in order to answer her questions that she refused to ask the teacher herself – curse her shyness. Walking into the Common Room, her green eyes burning into the book firmly held in her palms, Zenevieva looked up to spot her favourite seat, with the seat next to it occupied by a familiar blonde. While Zen had never spoken to the other, she knew who she was from her bold attitude and pride as well as her disgust in the Ilvermorny transfers or Americans as a whole. Thank God the brunette had never spoke to her.
Passing by her stretched out feet, Zen lifted her leg before sitting down on the sofa so she sat upon her leg comfortably. Her eyes glanced upwards looking at the girl relaxing before back down at her book, hoping to avoid a conversation or even worse – a sort of confrontation.
@ophelia & hope this works!

While the other girl's appearance didn't bother her at first, because she hadn't made any sort of move to talk to Ophelia, it became rather annoying when Fi saw, out of her peripheral vision, the girl's eyes on her when she was sitting down. Evasiveness was a primary pet peeve of Fi's; she would much rather people give their thoughts of her to her straight than have them underscore it by pretending to be nice, or worse, befriend her and then proceed to gossip behind her back. It was stupid and petty and she wasted no time in cutting those idiots down. She kind of wanted to laugh at the other girl, because she was so timid. She certainly wasn't an idiot (otherwise, she'd be in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff), but more so the quiet kind who was afraid to speak up at all. Fi would wager that she probably didn't have any friends, and for a moment she felt pity. Not that she, Ophelia, would make an effort to be her first friend until the other girl proved that she was worth her while. Still, when the girl looked up once more after settling in Ophelia couldn't help but turn her head at the same time and stare her right in the eye. "What, something on my face?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow. Words: 223 Tags: zenevieva mira novell Date: 1 week after classes have started Notes: Sorry this is late! Hope this works. The sound of the girl’s voice led to green eyes widening behind her book, her hands slowly pushing the novel down so her gaze was on the others. ”N-Not at all.” Zenevieva stuttered, clearing her throat as her thumb fumbled with the spine of the book from within, giving it a gentle tug to close it. The Novell girl adjusted herself as she sat upon her leg, soon stretching it out so she sat on the faux leather of the sofa. Zen’s eyes seemed to avoid the burning gaze coming from the blonde, sensing anger from her sense of tone. As awkward as she was, the brunette sat rather uncomfortably not wanting to cause a fight.
”I’ve just…Never met you before” What a stupid way to save your ass. Zen thought to herself, her mind mentally punching her consciousness. The book that rested in her pale hands soon rested on her thighs as she held her gaze with the other. ”Plus you seemed…Annoyed.” Careful choice of words. It was something that Zen sensed – from her body language to the way she even spoke to the Novell. Zenevieva quietly cursed herself for being so analytical but as long as the other girl wasn’t a bully, she was sure they could…Possibly get along.

Ophelia had to admit, it was a little annoying watching this girl cower when she felt like she didn't do anything at all to make her feel that way. People like her often pissed Fi off, simply because they were as stubborn in their ways as the most self-centered of people. Hesitant to do anything, reluctant to come out of the shadows. They were better off left behind, if they were unwilling to change their ways. "N-not at all." The other girl pulled her book closer to her, as if it were much bigger and could shield her from Fi's wrath. Ophelia had half a mind to make a snarky comment about whether or not she was reading on how to hex her as she watched the girl fiddle with the pages. She enjoyed watching her squirm. "I've just... never met you before," she continued. Ophelia scoffed, but didn't dignify that with a response. Obviously. In fact, that comment didn't even need to be said. She was surprised when the other girl appeared to figuratively peel back a wall by setting her book down and opening her body towards Ophelia, who tilted her head and waited for her to speak, sensing more was to come. These kinds of people always rambled, trying to defend themselves against aggression that normally was only perceived by them, and was never actually there. Like now. Ophelia had meant no harm with that remark of hers and yet she felt like a huge bully. "Plus you seemed... annoyed." Again. Perceived. And if this girl kept assuming shit Ophelia might very well get annoyed. "Please," she scoffed, tossing back her blond hair and fixing the girl with another reprimanding yet friendly stare, as if the the girl were a innocent puppy frightened of the stairs, "this is just my resting bitch face. Unless you were an angel you would see me like this all the time." She paused, contemplating. Ophelia did feel bad for her, for her timidity and the fact that she was a new person (ugh, another American, and in her house! Ravenclaw was better than that). Well, the girl had an excuse to be shy, Ophelia mused. "Now, you said something about not having met me before?" she continued, in a much more bubbly voice, the tone she used with people she didn't exactly like but whom hadn't done anything offensive to deserve her hate, "well, now you're meeting me. I'm Ophelia Fawcett. You are?" Words: 412 Tags: zenevieva mira novell Date: 1 week after classes have started Notes: On behalf of Fi, I apologize for her standoffishness. She'll warm up to Zen sooner or later. xP Also, I hope this is better than the last post! The gif in this post basically sums up Fi's facial expression.

The introduction from the other girl left Zenevieva rather confused. Not because of the introduction itself but the change in tone. Mentally, Zen noted that the girl’s tone seemed to be rather…annoyed, but Zen refused to continue stepping on the hot stones for the sake of her own life. But when the blonde became rather bubbly, the Novell girl’s brows furrowed and the silence hung heavy. Until, Zen actually remembered to respond with her own name. ”Zenevieva…” She murmured before clearing her throat, deciding to at least rip open at least some shred of confidence. ”But Zen is fine.”
Similarly, to how the blonde pushed her own hair back, Zen’s hands reached up to push her brunette locks behind her shoulders, before her hands took grasp of the book on her thighs, placing it on the stand near her. ”I’m an Ilvermorny transfer. Sort of. But you probably already know that.” Unlike the rest of her fellow school students, Zen had technically transferred to Hogwarts during her fifth year considering the change in her legal guardian following the…accident. Although, the school happily requested that Zen took the time to mourn and return to begin her sixth year. It was kind of a coincidence that everyone else had transferred in too. Including…Bianca aaand Katherine.
The confidence that Zen portrayed was soon tearing herself apart, especially with the silence in the common room. Her blue eyes soon couldn’t hold the burning stare that Ophelia gave her and eventually trailed off around the room; but mainly focused on the floor. She was sure the Fawcett girl was a sixth year just like herself, but while the two both were of the Ravenclaw house – it made no sense how they didn’t communicate with one another until this very day.
@ophelia & all of your replies are amazing! sorry this took a while.

Ophelia wanted to laugh because she could feel the tension pulsing from the other girl, and under all that hair there was probably a throbbing vein somewhere on her forehead. It was really just a simple question, and a heavy silence hung over them as the girl seemed to forget her own name for a minute. Fi had half a mind just to make one up for her. She looked like a Brianna. "Zeneviera," the other girl finally responded. Well. Close enough. "But Zen is fine."
It was a unique name, and Ophelia appreciated that. At least it wasn't some cheap American moniker like Sara or, God forbid, Chloe. And it wasn't a horribly obvious attempt to put a special twist on an already well known name. Before Ophelia could reply, however, Zen continued: "I'm an Ilvermorny transfer. Sort of. But you probably already know that." Fi laughed lightly, her cordial laugh when someone said something obvious in a cute, pitiful way, as if they were aware of their redundancy but were not confident enough to avoid it. "Right," she agreed, nodding. "With the accent and the fact that I haven't seen you around for the past six years, I figured you're new here." She tapped her fingers on the arm of her chair, thoughtful. "But you said 'sort of.' Tell me more about that, yeah?"

Zenevieva found herself nodding in response once the blonde mentioned the two had never met. It was honestly true, even if they shared the same house with one another, the Novell was careful with her steps around the common room and Hogwarts as a whole. Once Ophelia questioned on the addition of Zen’s ‘sort of’, the half-vampire’s lips formed a soft O, trying to scrabble together the words necessary in order to explain her situation but…not explain at the same time. ”I…” Zen began, folding her arms lightly as she tried to find the words.
”I had to move in with my aunt…She lives here while we lived in America.” In order to keep her cool, Zenevieva shrugged lightly, before continuing. ”I’m technically part with the transfers but I moved here near the end of my fifth year. I just took…some time off so I started my first and sixth year in Hogwarts. Coincidentally along with everyone I used to attend classes with.” In all of her life, Zen was sure that the ‘speech’ she just gave was the most she had ever spoken in a long while. Being shy was difficult for the Novell, even asking for a small favour from someone else felt difficult for her.

Maybe it had been the wrong question to ask, a little too personal and probing. Ophelia saw that Zen had started to withdraw into herself, crossing her arms, a universal display of defensiveness. Oops. Fi felt bad for pushing, even if it had been innocent curiosity. ”I had to move in with my aunt…she lives here while we lived in America.” Zen shrugged it off, as if she wanted to change subjects, and Ophelia had to focus on stopping herself from blushing, though her cheeks did have the slightest pink tint now. She felt a bit flustered, like a therapist, because Zen was obviously going to say more now and Fi wanted to backtrack to when she felt confident in her teasing remarks. Normally, Ophelia would've offered to listen to any of her friends' problems but Zen wasn't exactly a friend, not yet. ”I’m technically part with the transfers but I moved here near the end of my fifth year. I just took…some time off so I started my first and sixth year in Hogwarts. Coincidentally along with everyone I used to attend classes with.” "I see," Ophelia said, keeping a neutral face but tugging on her ponytail, an idiosyncrasy of hers that her friends knew meant that she was feeling unsure of herself. There could be a number of factors as to why Zen "took some time off," and she decided to to poke further, and prayed silently that Zen wouldn't spill more, as she seemed prone to doing. At least she didn't get into some kind of deep depressing family history. "Well." she sighed. "You're here now, so welcome!" her voice became a bit brighter, that of a welcome committee member's, and she threw in a bark of a laugh to lighten the mood. It wasn't exactly what Zen had said that had made her skin crawl, it was Zen's uncomfortableness, which was entirely Ophelia's fault. "Do you like the castle so far?"

Zenevieva cleared her throat rather uncomfortably as she shifted in her seat once more. The actions coming from Ophelia as well as her slight understanding of Zen’s situation led to the Novell girl raising a brow slightly, analysing the blonde. She could tell that talking about her own past made Ophelia rather uncomfortable as well as her own rambles. Zen knew that while she wasn’t much of a talker, if she did start talking she usually couldn’t stop. ”Thanks.” She mumbled. I guess.
The laugh that travelled in the air unexpectedly left Zen’s eyes slightly widening before relaxing – knowing she didn’t really need to be so tense. Other people and their need to bother the Novell girl had always riled up her own anxiety and made her uncomfortable but she always tried to be the complete opposite. ”Here? I like it.” She smiled, silently clapping her hands together on her legs. ”It’s a lot better than Ilvermorny…More to explore…You know.” She was thankful that Ophelia had tried to make small talk, as she wanted to at least be acquittanced with the blonde, but not seem awkward enough to do it.
Pushing some of her brunette locks behind her shoulders, Zen sat up completely, the smile that was hesitant to touch the corner of her lips remaining there this time around. She managed to look up at the blonde and hold eye contact with her before she spoke once more. ”Classes are…fun. People are nice. It’s different.” From the accent that Ophelia had, Zenevieva knew that the blonde was probably a permanent student here, having no need to transfer or even run from any sort of problem.

Ophelia wasn't sure why she'd so willingly said welcome to this girl, the American whom she was supposed to detest along with all the other transfers that had come stomping into her school. But Zen seemed to be already suffering and Fi wagered that something inside herself took pity on this timid girl. As far as Fi could tell, Ravenclaws had the only plainly positive trait. Intelligence, in the definition of possession of knowledge and use of reason, could rarely be a bane. Courage, for example, by the Gryffindors' hands had lots of reasons to be seen as detrimental: too much courage, and you died doing something reckless. Too much honesty, and you were seen as soft, like the Hufflepuffs already were. And of course, too much ambition lead to your own demise, such the stories told of many figures in literature and many Slytherins in history. Cleverness, on the other hand, could continue to grow without worry of being damaging. And so because Zen was in Ravenclaw, she had at least one good attribute going for her, something Ophelia could forgive her for, since she did not appear to exhibit anything impressive yet. "You like it." Ophelia mused, tilting her head. "Interesting. You're the first Illvermornian to say that." Or maybe Zen just hated America, or wherever she was from originally. She did not need to disclose exactly what happened in her past for Fi to put two and two together, and reason that Ilvermorny was too closely tied with her trauma and that Hogwarts, on the other hand, was far away and offered a completely new start. Fi wasn't sure how much she was projecting, and she didn't want to accidentally say something based on assumptions, so she forced herself to sit there silently and just listen to Zen. Something had made the dark-haired girl sit up straighter, a thought that made her excited and one she wanted to share, and Fi found herself wanting to hear it. "Classes are... fun. People are nice. It's different." Different. A small confirmation of Fi's suspicions, perhaps? "You don't take the same classes on the same subjects at Ilvermorny?" she inquired. "People are nice. That's... half true, I guess." She didn't consider herself an entirely nice person, but she tried her best to be at least cordial to others, unless they really pissed her off. Whenever she was mean she was reminded of the Purifiers, and of Elaine Dupree, and then she would feel bad about having acted so unmannerly. "The Hufflepuffs are you friends. So are some of the Gryffindors... and I wager that you already know to stay away from the Slytherins." There were a select group of Slytherins that were her friends, some of them having been in the same family pureblood social circle as the Fawcetts, and thus she'd known them from childhood, and had been disappointed when she hadn't been placed with them in their honored house. In her first years, Ravenclaw had been a lower tier. "Do you like the professors?"Words: 506 Tags: zenevieva mira novell

Vivid green eyes found themselves widening slowly out of shock and confusion. Why wouldn’t anybody love Hogwarts? The Wizarding school itself was far from her original home, but with new places to explore and discover, how couldn’t one have the time of their life? ”Really?” Zen questioned, filled with obvious curiosity. It wasn’t that Zenevieva particularly hated Ilvermorny, as the wizarding school itself filled the Novell with slight joy and memories, but it was the people that made her crave an escape away. While the school taught the majority of the same subjects, the line was drawn back again at the people she shared her classes with or even escaped from. ”Of course, but it’s the vibe of Hogwarts that makes it different.”
The words that Zenevieva listened to by Ophelia had settled within her mind and simply made sense. Her friends were placed into each house accordingly and it lined up to every attribute she had given them while firstly befriending them. Eli was too sweet, a loyal boy hence his placement in Hufflepuff. Kaylee, one of her closest and best friends was a Slytherin because of her own dreams, ambition and strive. It was something she adored between the both of them. But Zen? She knew she was placed in Ravenclaw for her own intelligence. Potentially nothing more, nothing less. ”Indeed…” Slytherin was one house Zen was uncomfortable with, especially after discovering her enemies / bullies placement there.
”Professors?” Zen repeated. The topic change had hit the Novell rather quickly and soon she found herself nodding, a soft hum leaving her lips. ”They’re mostly all kind. Although my Charms professor is strict at times.”

"I see," Ophelia said, in response to Zenevieva's remark about Hogwart's "vibe," even though she couldn't see because she'd only ever been at Hogwarts and did not know any place else as home, not even her own household, where her family life had never been the best and most comfortable. "I agree, I love the castle and school as well." She did not know whether or not Zen had bullies back in Ilvermorny, and it would be a terrible tragedy if they had transferred to Hogwarts as well, but she would not be surprised if the other girl, so shy and so withdrawn, did. People like her became easy targets, and she might have preyed on Zen herself, if she had not deviated, at an early age, so far from her family's collective ethos. She was feeling better now, the conversation feeling a little easier, and she was less annoyed with the girl, though she was not less interested. The Americans from Ilvermorny may be unwelcome, but they were nevertheless intriguing, with histories and childhoods so different that each person appeared to be a novel, something to dissect and analyze. Ophelia's thoughtful blue gaze roved over Zen, wondering what more was in her own story, what made her this way, a person seemingly so eager to curl up into herself and disappear among the fabric of the armchair, and only now Ophelia appeared to be reeling her in and away, throwing out questions and topics that piqued the attention of the fish that was Zen, and Fi found that she liked talking to the new girl, even if she gave rather vague answers. "Do you like the professors?" ”They’re mostly all kind. Although my Charms professor is strict at times." Ophelia felt herself sitting forward eagerly, now. "Charms is my favorite subject," she said, always her opening line whenever someone brought up the subject. It was true, and she liked to air it around, let it be known that she was talented and good at charms, if she couldn't be accepted for her unorthodox mannerisms as a Fawcett. "I don't have much of an opinion on the professor, really, and I like a strict teacher better than one who doesn't care. Do you have a class you particularly enjoy?"Words: 379 Tags: zenevieva mira novell Notes: Yay! As Ophelia announced her favourite class, Zenevieva found herself smiling softly. While Miss Choi was strict and at times mean towards the students; Charms was one class she severely enjoyed. Zenevieva always found herself learning new things to defend herself with – somewhat preparing herself for if or even when her bullies come knocking. She knew it would rather be unlikely she would run into them, considering they were in Slytherin and even a year older but one could never say never.
When the blonde asked the brunette of her other favourite classes, Zen found herself considering her different options. History of magic was one thing Zenevieva found herself excited for every Wednesday morning, considering the class usually consisted of reading from many textbooks and analysing with the professors. Books were Zen’s ultimate weakness and her favourite thing to exist. Although, Potions and Defense against the Dark Arts were also appealing to the Novell. And Zen found herself repeating her thoughts to Ophelia.

"History of Magic." Ophelia mused over the brunette's answer, her blue eyes thoughtful. "Huh. That's a first, to be honest. Although, none of my friends would be the kind of people to like such a subject, I guess." The people she hung out with were vibrant with energy, active individuals who bounced instead of walked and shouted instead of talked. They, like Ophelia herself, found it hard to sit still through things and it was a frequent activity of theirs to all skip Professor Delacour-Creevey's class together to crawl through the secret passageways to Hogsmeade and go for butterbeers instead. "That class never appealed to me," she said honestly, shaking her head. "The professor isn't bad, but the subject is absolutely horrendous. Although, I can't deny that it's important." The blonde drummed her fingers on the armchair as she continued to speak. "Can't say I don't like Potions, or Defense Against the Dark Arts. I think the latter may be my second favorite subject. Transfiguration comes at a close third," she added. In truth, both of the courses simply came harder to her than Charms, or perhaps it was the other way around and Charms was just bafflingly easy for her to master, and so found had found it a little discouraging in the beginning that she wasn't advancing as quick as she wanted to.
