10.XX.2024 Their walking and talking had gotten Lance about halfway to his next class in almost record time. Stopping on a platform to wait for one of the moving staircases to come back his way, he nodded his head at Zen’s comment about Georgie sounding ‘fun’. It was meant to be interpreted as sarcasm and he definitely got that. Georgie was Georgie, after all, and you were either going to like her or hate her. Sometimes he wondered if his sister did that on purpose so she could weed out the people who would actually be dedicated friends. Certainly a smart way of going about maintaining friendships. Lance preferred to be cordial to everyone he met, so there were major differences in how the siblings interacted with others.
“They should have put the library closer to your tower. Or a library in your tower,” he commented as the stairs finally returned to the spot they were at. Fickle things they were, the moving staircases. Always causing late arrivals in classes or putting you in a place you didn’t want to be. Taking a firm first step onto the stairs, he started the climb towards the next level. “Unless y’all actually have one? That seems like it should be a given, considering.” Whenever he ventured to the library for a book to pull research from, the majority of the students in there were either Slytherin or Ravenclaw. The two houses had similar views on education, whereas the Hufflepuffs were too busy in their social circles and the Gryffindors were doing whatever it was they liked to do, which usually was somewhere between everything and nothing.
Lance let out an exhausted sigh when she mused that night patrols had to be exhausting. They were something like that. “Well, I think the first step to being a Prefect is that you would have to be here next year. But if Ilvermorny has a similar thing, then just showing you’re a competent person should do the trick. They picked me because I tend to get along with most everyone.” Not to toot his own horn or anything. Every Prefect was picked for a reason, and the Head Boy and Girl were at the tippy top of that. Lance viewed those positions as the pinnacle of student achievements. Prefect was still pretty good though, but he sort of wished he had done it during his sixth year instead of during his seventh.

WITH THE TWO OF THEM stopping by the moving staircase, Zenevieva knew she was closer to her next class earlier than she had expected to be. Surely it was the same for the Hufflepuff, but considering their age gap, the Novell knew she would be taking a waiting for a different staircase to lead her into another direction, on the secondary platform. While he was joking around with her, he did have a fair point. The Common room and ultimately the dorms was a journey up five flights of stairs, (six or seven from the dungeons), it would have been useful to keep the library nearby, even though books were scattered amongst the Common Room anyway. ”T-There’s a few b-bookcases around.” Filled with some books she had taken the time to read and others she had made a note to read.
”C-Considering that’s k-kind of what we’re a-all about?” She responded, though it sounded more of a rhetorical question. Education had just been a simple thing for Zenevieva to enjoy because of how nervous she was to be social or too structured to live a care free life. From the steps he mentioned, Zen knew it would apply to her fairly easily. If Ilvermorny had plans to reconstruct and reopen, she would watch her friends, other peers and bullies leave her behind now she had no reason to return to the States. ”K-Kind of l-lucky I l-live here now.” But of course Lance was a good guy, hence the reason he was chosen. The Novell wasn’t the best when it came to speaking to people, especially because of her stutter, but maybe being a Prefect could helped her change. ”T-That seems to be a f-fair choice.” She added, forcing some sort of smile.
Like Lance had suggested, there was the possibility with the two of them walking to their next classes, Zen would find who she was looking for. As the moving staircase came to a close, the two stepped off together and lucky enough for the Ravenclaw, Eli was right ahead, clutched to the side of Sari Fawley. Zen looked up to Lance to thank him again for spending time against her (and while she wanted to thank him for putting up with her stutter, it would’ve taken her too long to even thank her) before shuffling into the open arms of her friends, the seventh year Hufflepuff ruffling her hair like usual. She looked back at Lance, who had turned the corner past them, the smile she had on her lips dropping slightly as he walked off alone. But after all, their loneliness was a pattern.
