Ariadne was feeling immensely grateful during her Saturday morning shift at Saint Mungo’s. James had come home to her, almost completely unscathed after several months searching for his father. Though her had not been able to find him, there was a strange sense of calmness to her love’s demeanor, so she did not push him to fight to find his forgotten memories. He had come home with a renewed sense of purpose as well; shortly after he returned, her had gotten a tryout and landed the Chaser position for the Appleby Arrows. Ariadne was thrilled; she had always thought James talent aligned with the professional Quidditch world, but after how many times her family had tried to push her into a specific mold, she refused to nag or wheedle him into doing what she thought was best. It was how their relationship worked, and it suited Ariadne perfectly. Plus, here in the Maternity Ward, she was checking up on the well-being of the newest patient in the nursery. Little Daisy Longfellow was born healthy with a nice set of lungs on her just yesterday morning, after nearly twelve hours of labor. It still amazed Ariadne every time a new baby came screaming into the word, that life had just been created. Daisy had been the first child Ariadne had delivered on her own, as her mentor healer had been delivering a set of twins who were a homebirth somewhere in the countryside.
Ariadne cooed down at Daisy and let the infant wrap her tiny fingers around one of her own. As Daisy gurgled, Ariadne checked her vitals, and was pleased to see that the child was growing quite nicely. She brushed her fingers gently over the newborns’ hair, and wheeled her out to her mothers’ room, where it would be time for feeding. Once mother and child were settled, Ariadne made her way out towards the Atrium, her lime green Healer robes fluttering out behind her. She was getting rather hungry, and was just trying to decide where to go to lunch when she spotted a familiar face. “Andy!” she exclaimed, her face lighting up with a smile as she saw her little sister. “What brings you to Saint Mungos today?” she asked quickly, her forehead creasing with worry as she did a quick analysis on her sisters’ physical well-being. Everything seemed alright, hopefully Andy was just there to visit her or another one of her healer friends then.

Andy had decided she'd track down her sister during her lunch break today. Well, it was more like her 'time between shifts' than a lunch break. She didn't actually have to be back for about five hours, even though she had just left from there. She had been doing that a lot - trying to get extra shifts. Partly to make up for the boredom of adulthood in general, partly because she didn't want to miss out on anything interesting, and partly because she was avoiding Viktor. It was a lot easier to avoid the guy if she was working all of the time. Avoiding people had always been one of her specialties, but he just had a way of being everywhere. She stepped into the hospital and looked around, not having to wait long before Ariadne appeared and called to her. Andy smiled, moving toward her sister, seeing the slight moment of worry on Ari's face as her sister looked her over, asking why she was there. Andy lifted her hands in surrender, "just hoping you could grab a bite?" she asked innocently. @ariadne

Ariadne’s relief showed in her face when Andy said she merely wanted to see if she was available for lunch. “Oooh, of course I am! I can always make time for you,” she said happily, linking her arm through her sisters as she led them back through the Atrium. “Oh wait!” she exclaimed, stopping suddenly and waving her wand over herself. Instantly, the lime green robes she wore as a trainee healer were gone; in its place simple jeans and a black turtleneck. “Okay, now we can go,” she said, sliding her arm through her sisters once more as they left the magical hospital and ventured into the muggle streets of London. “There is the most darling creperie that opened up down the street, let’s go there,” she suggested, squeezing Andy’s arm lightly as she turned left at the intersection.
Ariadne took in a deep breath, savoring the crisp fall air of the afternoon. “What a beautiful day out,” she commented, looking over at Andromeda. “I told you James returned last week, right?” she added casually, opening the door to the little creperie and gesturing for Andy to go in first. Due to the time, Ariadne had been worried the place would be crowded, but it seemed that they happened to hit the place at the right moment. They were seated in a cozy little booth by the windows, which Ariadne preferred. “How are things at the Leaky Cauldron? I’ve meant to stop by to say hello to Hannah but I just have been...well, you know. Busy seems like a pitiful excuse,” she asked, folding her hands together into her lap as she gazed over at Andromeda. She didn’t need to look at a menu; she already knew what she’d be having, as this was certainly not her first venture into the shop, but she wanted her sister to take her time with the menu.

Andy's smile grew when her sister said she could always make time for her, linking her arm through. Andy's mind flashed back to a moment to when they weren't close at all. They had certainly grown a lot from that point. It was still kind of surprising to Andy. It surprised her even more than Nik and her got along a little now, too. Mostly due to him saving her life, but... Ari paused, and Andy stopped. Ari changed clothes in an instant with a wave of her wand and Andy smiled, "smart," she complimented. Soon they were out and onto the streets, walking arm in arm. Ari suggested a creperie and Andy nodded, "works for me," she answered, even though Ari was already leading them that direction. Andy didn't mind her sister taking charge. She felt like when she was well protected when with Ariadne now, and sort of stepped into the 'little sister' role. Ari commented on the nice day, then turned to Andy to mention James's return as they stepped inside. "You did, I think. Either way I heard it from somewhere," she noted. Ari asked about the cauldron as they sat and Andy unwrapped her scarf from around her neck, setting it on the seat beside her. "Things are well, for the most part. I know Hannah would like to see you. I think she's alright, but it's hard with Neville at the house and all," Neville, Jayden and Phil were living at the house most of the time whereas Alice and Hannah were at the cauldron. The family had sort of split in half, boys and girls. Andy picked up the menu, but didn't really look into it yet. @ariadne

Ariadne smiled softly at the mention of Hannah Longbottom, their surrogate mother. Aria had been busy of course, studying the specific healing magic necessary in the maternity ward at Saint Mungo’s - if she was going to bring life into this world, she wanted to make sure she was doing it properly. After everything that had tainted the Lestrange surname, Aria was going to ensure her legacy as a Healer who helped give life, not take it away. Mostly because she knew that, deep down, there was a darkness, the same darkness in her siblings. They were all highly capable wizards, and Ariadne knew if someone threatened James, she could find the darkness within herself to take care of the situation. After what had happened with her parents, Aria honestly hadn’t wanted to know how their deaths truly came about. What had mattered was they were gone, and the three Lestrange children could make their own lives however they wanted to. Aria had been of half a mind to also change her last name to Longbottom to honor the family that had willingly taken them in, but with the way her relationship with James was coming, perhaps a newer, different surname was not far off for the middle Lestrange child.
“Have you spoken to her about Neville's’ progress?” Ariadne asked, her brow furrowing slightly as a sign of worry. Neville had been poisoned around this time last year, and his prognosis had been harrowing enough to have him step down as Headmaster of Hogwarts, allowing Minerva McGonagall to once again take up the post. She knew that some of the best Healers at Saint Mungo’s were attending him, and she knew if anything serious was going on, she would be informed along with the rest of the family. Picking up the menu, she looked it over for a moment before selecting a goat cheese, herbs and honey crepe for her lunch. “I have to admit I’ve had a bit of a thing for goat cheese lately,” she said with a soft laugh.

Ari asked if Andy had discussed Nevilles condition with Hannah and she shook her head, "not in depth. I haven't asked her much about it, mostly because I don't want to make her think about it while she's trying to work. I thought about asking Phil, but..." Phil was still her friend, of course, but she wasn't ready to really talk to him about stuff on a deeper level and all. Ari mentioned goat cheese and Andy opened her own menu, glancing at it. "I don't really care for it... I'm thinking something strawberry, maybe? Don't know," she wasn't really focusing on the menu, with her mind wandering a little. She picked something random, then lowered it down, "I met someone," she started. @ariadne

Ariande peered down at the menu. “Well you can do a strawberry and cream? Oh, add some bananas and nutella in perhaps,” she said excitedly. They ordered and Ariadne languished in the silence. She had of course known about Phil and Andy’s romance, that had gotten just a little bit weird after the Longbottoms had unofficially adopted the two Lestrange sisters to get them out of their parents home. She knew though that her sister had truly loved Phil, just like she loved James. There were all kinds of love, and the kind Andy and Phil had shared was true but simply...not meant to be.
She was quite surprised when Andy announced the other bit of news she had met someone. “Oh?” Ariadne asked, breathless with her excitement. Of course, Ari wasn’t exactly like other girls when she was excited; she had seen them flapping around, screeching their hearts content. That was not the type of lady Aria had been brought up to be. Even with their parents gone, Aria could not shake the proper teachings they had drilled into her head as a young child. “Tell me everything,” she said, her eyes alight, showing her happiness at the news.

Andy was worried about Hannah, and even about Alice, but she didn't know how to reach either of them, really. She was much closer to Phil, Neville and Jayden so it was a lot easier to talk to them. But right now she wasn't talking to Phil much, Neville wasn't able to really talk, and her and Jayden weren't around each other at all, plus he was still in school. So it really made everything a lot... more difficult. Bonding with her family wise. It was kind of sad to think that just after changing her name she had lost her time with most of them. Ari suggested some things Andy could order and Andy was happy to take her first suggestion when the waitstaff came around. Then, at the mention of Vik, Ari seemed surprised. Was it really hard to think that Andy could move on? No, no. Ari didn't mean it that way. Ari was clearly happy and excited to here about this. She always was like that, even when the two weren't that close. Ari still cared for Andy's happiness and wanted good news. "His name is Vik... He was a Slytherin, I think your age," she explained, not actually sure how old Viktor was. "I haven't seen him since we met, but I'm hoping to..." she explained. albeit awkwardly. She sighed, lifting a hand to place her elbow on the table - very unladylike - and pressed her forehead into her palm. "But I'm not sure if I'm ready to pursue something long term..." she had Jamie, but that was different. Vik would be a different kind of commitment, she felt. @ariadne

At the mention of the name of Andy's new interest, Vik, Ariadne scanned her brain. It hadn't been that long since she had graduated, but so many things had happened between then and now. With her family, with James...with Andromeda especially. Ariadne would never fully forget the haunted look on her sisters' face after the night their parents died, in the room at Saint Mungos they had kept her in. Aria had wanted to do everything, anything to bring her sister back from the brink. While Andy was back, Ari knew something in her had changed, and she had to learn to accept that. Hearing her talk about something so normal as going on a date with a young man from her year brought her relief and happiness. "Yes...Viktor Podmore, I do remember him," she told Andy with a smile. "I did not interact with him as much, but I do believe we had classes together." She would ask James when she returned home if he remembered him better. Perhaps Viktor played Quidditch or something. Aria knew her instinct was to protect Andy - it always had been - but she had come to realize there was no better person to take care of Andy than herself.
Andy seemed to echo the statement, saying she was not ready to pursue anything long term, and a faint, understanding smile crossed her lips. "Of course, I realize after Phil..." she trailed off, then took Andy's hand in her own. "It's okay to not want to pursue anything serious, or long term. You're young, and just starting out in the adult world. Take your time." Aria let out a soft laugh. Ariadne had not followed this advice with James, but...James was her true love. Something like that, she didn't want to let go, not even for a moment. James was the only man she had ever been with, and she was at peace with keeping it that way. "But, know if you do, I'm always here for you. Crepes, talking, a shoulder to lay your head on, whatever it is you need," she promised, sititng back as their crepes arrived. "Let's put a fork in this shall we say for a moment, while we eat these delicious delicacies," she announced, cutting a small piece of her crepe off the edge and popping it into her mouth. "Would you like to try?" she asked, offering a bite for Andy.

Ari did remember Vik, which made Andy sit up a little straighter. "Oh. Yeah, I mean I'm sure you had some classes together," she didn't know why she had hoped that Ari knew Vik a little better than that. She wanted to press further about if Ari HAD any information on him, but she didn't. Ari mentioned Phil, and Andy kind of winced a little at his name. She kind of hoped that she wouldn't say it out loud, but there it was. As her sister took her hand Andy's brow furrowed, looking down at their fingers. Ari's words made sense, but Andy still felt a little sick. If she was still with Phil she probably would have been fine with a marriage proposal any day, which made her sisters words sting in a way. Even as she talked about being supportive. Andy didn't respond, or rather didn't have time to before the crepes arrived. Andy cut into hers, and shook her head at her sisters offer. "I'm alright, thanks. You go ahead and enjoy it. How's James?" she asked, taking a bite. @ariadne

Ariande had a little half smile on her face as Andy nervously fidgeted as she spoke about Viktor. My word, she must really have taken a fancy to this fellow if she was acting like this, she thought to herself. She hadn’t even gotten this way about Phil, not really. And certainly not her other ex-boyfriend, Jude. He had treated her rather awful, if she remembered correctly. She really hadn’t concerned herself with her sisters boyfriends until last year; she really had to try to be a better sister now that she was in a better place.
And speaking of better places, the topic turned to James. “Oh things are quite wonderful, thank you for asking,” Aria said happily, taking another bite of her crepe. “Now that he’s back from his adventure, we’re really settling into domestic bliss together. He’s joined the Arrows, and my job in the maternity ward makes us both quite busy. But I really feel like we’re connecting on a whole new level now,” she told her with a blissful little sigh. “We’ll see, but I do believe I have met my One, if you know what I’m saying,” she added with a smile. It had not been love at first sight for Ariadne at least; she knew James had partly pursued her because she had told him no. But it had developed and she’d fallen, hard and fast, for the Gryffindor playboy, and he felt the same. What could be better?

Ari said that things were wonderful with James, talking about domestic bliss which made Andy want to grimace, but she didn't. She interally questioned what could be nice about that. She wasn't sure she'd ever be capable of settling down with someone other than Phil. He brought that out in her, but Vik was more... adventerous. She didn't see them doing anything like that. But it was still new, so that wasn't really fair... or something.
Ari said they were connecting on a whole knew level and Ansy smiled, genuinely. "That's great to hear," she said. She didn't think she believed in the 'One' thing, not for herself at least, but Ari and James seemed meant to be. "Do you expect a proposal or something?" was it too soon to ask?

Ariadne just smiled mysteriously. “Who knows? Perhaps,” she said, then giggled. Of course, Ariadne had been taught to never presume anything, but she knew the love she and James had for each other was genuine, and more powerful than any relationship she had ever experienced. “Imagine, a Potter marrying a Lestrange. Whoever would have thought that was possible?” she said, laughing in spite of herself. Just a single generation back, the Lestrange and Potter families would have rather murdered each other on site than have to work together. Now two of them were in a committed relationship, living together and everything. While she hated being glad her parents were dead, there was a fair amount of relief that they wouldn’t be there to dismantle her happiness.
Ariadne finished off the crepe and paid for their bill when the waitress came over. “So, do you think you have any missions coming up that may be dangerously adventurous?” she asked Andy. She was not a Mediwitch herself, so she typically did not see the patients that were brought in in the aftermath of a raid or mission, but the Healers liked to talk, and needed to vent about what they’d seen. Ariadne had somehow managed to gain a reputation as a good listener, so the stories she’d heard were numerous. She couldn’t help but wonder how many people at Saint Mungo’s had partially been put in there by her sister.

Andy agreed that a Potter marrying a Lestrange defied reason, and she smiled. "Probably just as strange as -" she stopped, swallowing. Her relative had tortured Phil's Grandparents to insanity. That was an incredibly sobering thought whenever it came back to her. It made all of her feelings of insanity and shame come rushing back to her and she had to catch he breath. "It'll be an event, that's for sure," she finally added after a moment, smiling weakly at Ariadne and shoveling some food into her mouth (daintily of, course) to keep from speaking further for a moment.
Ari asked if Andy had any adventurous jobs coming up and Andy shook her head. "Still in training so they generally take it easy on us," she explained. "I have plenty of adventures on my on though, with or without permission," she said honestly. That definitely sounded suspicious but she didn't think twice about it.

Ariadne had a hunch about what her sister was going to say - marrying a Longbottom. Their father, aunt and uncle had been responsible for putting Neville’s parents in Saint Mungo’s, the very place Ariadne now worked. Despite all of that, Neville and Hannah had found it in their hearts to shelter the two girls whose name he despised, for children should not be held accountable for the sins of their parents. Aria was grateful for him, and knew Andy still cared very deeply for Phil, the middle child. But with each passing day, it seemed more likely that Andy would not end up with him in the end; all Aria wanted was for her sister to find peace.
She raised her eyebrow at Andy’s adventure statement, but chose not to press the matter further. Well, much further anyway. “Did you meet this new mystery man of yours on one of these...adventures?” she asked, a smirk forming on her lips.
