Ariadne was well and happy, and that was enough for James. The chicken and asparagus were nearly as divine as Ari herself. James could not help but periodically shed and quickly wipe away a tear at the sheer bliss of it all. Life wasn't just looking up, it was bright and... -James' eyes once more looked back to Ariadne- ...warm... and attractive as all heaven in that dress. Who knew beauty, intelligence, and tolerance for James' nonsense could all exist in one woman? The odds were staggering.
"I think the Arrows have a good chance," James said between bites. "if we can tighten up our defensive plays in the next few weeks..."
-- two months later --
Romantic dinners, fun surprises, long laughs, and a profound and passionate love for each other had all filled the last few months. Since James had actually started trying at life, it had gone well enough -who'd have thought? James was laying back on his and Ari's bed, thinking back on the last few months while turning a small, rounded box over in his hands. The box was light and heavy at the same time, holding within it the potential of a blissful future with Ari.
For a moment, he supposed they had already started their blissful future, and that perhaps this little box only held a formality, but he pushed that thought out as soon as it had entered. No... this was special. This was part of that taking life seriously thing he had been working at for some time. He had the ring... all he needed was the right moment to propose...
The front door opened and closed. James' pondering eyes opened wide as he turned his head to look toward the bedroom door. Now was not the moment. He quickly rolled over and shoved the box into his nightstand drawer, shutting it quietly and rolling back onto the bed with a book he had been trying to read for the last few weeks.
"My sweet raven! Welcome home!" He called out, listening for whether or not the footsteps were headed towards the bedroom.
