October Daniel and Irina had been gone on vacation the entire month of September, leaving Maria to herself at the apartment for that time. He was glad to be back though, and had just arrived. He and Irina had parted ways so he could get settled at home and, of course, check in on his roommate - literally. It was a studio apartment so there really wasn't much separation between them, but they were both doing their own thing a lot. The second he walked in the door, though, Marias emotions hit him like a ton of bricks. She was upset about something. Sulking and... angry. Maria and anger was a bad, bad mix. He was just glad the apartment hadn't burned down. He set his bag aside, stepping in slowly and shutting the door. 'Heeeeey," he started slowly, "what's wrong?"@maria

Maria did not take rejection well. Never had. It had to do with her half Veela blood. Rejection was, understandably, something she did not experience often. Plus, she was a selfish and possessive person. People rejecting her? Well, what did they know? No one said no to her! Okay, except Daniel. He was allowed to say no, because he was her best friend, but even then she didn't like it much.
During Daniel's vacation Maria had started to 'date' a coworker. Male model was a better word though. Gorgeously handsome. But a little to much empty space in his head, if you know what she means. But hey, Maria didn't judge. She wasn't dating him for his brains after all. But, after a month of 'dating', he'd ending up dumping her. For one of the other models. Some bimbo blonde, with just as little brains as him. Sure, it hadn't been serious but Maria wasn't a dumpee, she was a dumper. Which, as Daniel discovered upon entering the apartment, left her in a very foul mood.
Maria didn't hear to door open. She sat on the couch with a metal bowl, and was, in an almost stereotypical girl-who'd-been-dumped fashion, was ceremonially setting pictures of her now ex-boyfriend on fire, letting them burn to ash in the bowl. At least she wasn't burning down the apartment or people.
Maria looked up from one of the burning pictures, still held in hand as it started to burn, when Daniel spoke. "Oh, you're back. Have a nice vacation?" Of course she didn't say what was wrong. Getting Maria to talk about her problems was always a bit of a tug of war, even for people who she knew well and trusted.

Oh she was... burning something. Pictures? She was burning pictures. Dan's eyes widened when he caught sight of it, but took it in quickly that she wasn't actually hurting anything. Other than the pictures, obviously. "Uh, yeah. Yeah, nice enough," he answered slowly. He stepped in and slowly set his bag aside and took off his jacket, tossing it onto the bed. "Nice fire. Getting cold in here?" it was definitely not cold in there. He bent down to unzip his bag, taking out some food items he had in there and moving to the kitchen part of the apartment to start putting some of it away. He leaned over the counter, trying to see what she was burning pictures of. It was... a guy? "Looks like a troublemaker," he commented, leaning back with an innocent look on his face to get back to what he was working on. @maria
