Edmund seemed to actually like her ideas, but then he said that he’d have to find the courage to actually ask her. An idea popped into Lusie’s mind, but she was almost sure that her brother would never go for it. “You know Ed, I could ask her for you if you wanted…” she suggested, wiggling her eyebrows a bit. She was nearly sure that her brother wouldn’t let her do it, but a part of her kind of wanted to now. She wanted Edmund to be happy and she was fairly certain that Addi felt the same way even if she didn’t know the girl too well.
He said that she was right, again. Wow she felt all sorts of confident today. Her brother was trusting her with relationship advice, something Lusie normally would think of as a mistake and she didn’t know what she was talking about, but these sorts of things didn’t seem hard to figure out, at least not for someone looking at the situation from the outside. She was sure that it was worse on the inside. “No I like talking to you about these things. It gives me something to look forward to when I start dating.” she said with a laugh, mostly teasing her brother. If she were going to end up in a situation like he was in, it would require her to actually have a close friend who was a boy first, which, at the moment at least, she didn’t. “I’m glad that you trust me with these sorts of things.” she admitted, genuinely.

Lusie was now offering to ask Addi out for him and the guilt was gnawing at Edmund. Even though he hadn't outright lied to his sister, he hadn't told her the full truth. "No, it's not like that," he told her, shaking his head as he decided he might as well tell Lusie. "The thing is, I kissed her on Halloween and since then everything's been kind of ... blurry. Like, we still do a lot together, but we don't label it as "dating" or anything, really. I think she might like me, but I don't want to assume and ruin a good thing." He scrunched his nose, "Sorry, I should have told you earlier, I didn't know what to say."
It was a bit of a surprise to Ed when Lusie said that she liked talking about these sorts of things. Edmund chuckled nervously, "What, you want to look forward to making a guy as nervous as Addi makes me?" he teased right back. At least the conversation with his little sister wasn't entirely serious. They could still have fun with one another. He shrugged, "Of course I do. You know more about the situation than anyone else does." Then Edmund looked at her curiously, "D'you ... think you'd tell me when you start dating and stuff?" He wasn't sure how he felt about the idea of her dating, but he did know that he wanted Lusie to feel comfortable talking to him about anything.

Lusie sat there with her mouth hanging open staring at her brother as he explained what happened to her. He had kissed her?! GO ED! She wanted to scream, she was so proud of her brooding older brother. But then he explained that nothing on the romantic front had happened since then so he didn’t know whether or not she was interested. When the shock finally wore off she shook her head. “No it’s alright that you didn’t tell me. I understand how confusing this must be for you.” she insisted. She almost felt a little bad for him. Though, she still couldn’t see Addi not feeling the same way about him. “Do you think maybe Addi feels this confused about it all too?” she suggested.
“Nooo.” Lusie said with a laugh. “That’s not it. I just like that you trust me though to talk to me. And that you want to hear my opinion even when I have no experience to go on.” she said again, but she knew that he was teasing her about wanting to see him making a fool of himself. Edmund asked if Lusie would tell him when she started dating and she cocked her head in contemplation for a moment, “If I told you - would you let the man live?” Lusie questioned.

It was a little satisfying, how surprised Lusie was by the fact that he’d kissed Addi. Obviously, she hadn’t expected that kind of a thing, and Ed was actually pretty proud of himself. It wasn’t every day that he got to surprise his little sister. What’s even better was that she wasn’t mad at him for it. Ed hadn’t been sure whether or not his sister would be annoyed that he kept this from her for so long. He smiled when she said that she understood. “Thanks,” Ed muttered, smiling over at his sister. He shrugged at her next question, “I’m not really sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if she is; I’m just happy that she didn’t get all weird after it happened, you know?” That was Ed’s major relief with the whole situation. Addi hadn’t avoided him after he’d kissed her.
Ed laughed with his sister, glad that she was taking his teasing well. “Of course. I mean, out of everyone, you’ve always tried to understand me.” In their family, he meant. Ed always felt a special connection to his younger sister and was glad that she felt comfortable with him as well. He didn’t answer right away when she turned his question back on him, thinking about it for a second. “Yes,” he started slowly. “I want you to be happy, so I wouldn’t hurt him … I might put some healthy fear into him though, especially if I don’t know him.” Ed chuckled, “If I promise not to hurt him, will you tell me?” He wanted Lusie to feel comfortable telling him anything, so they might as well have this conversation now.

“Absolutely.” Lusie nodded in understanding when her older brother said that he was just glad that Addi hadn’t gotten weird or upset after he kissed her. A part of the Hufflepuff girl still couldn’t believe that her brother had kissed anyone, let alone his best friend, a girl who he fancied and had known for so long. She knew that Ed had feelings for Addi, sure. But she just had a hard time seeing Ed as someone who would act on those romantic feelings. He was rather reserved. At least, more so than their older brother was. He then went on to say that out of everyone, she had always tried to understand him. She nodded, it was true. Well, she knew that Susan tried to understand him, but she didn’t think Susan did the best job at it. Or maybe Edmund made it harder for Susan to get close to him than he did for Lusie. He explained that he wanted her to be happy so he might scare any boy she told him about a little bit, but he agreed not to hurt him, Lusie nodded, she didn’t really think Ed would hurt him, but she also didn’t want to put it past her overprotective older brother. “Yes Edmund, of course I will tell you if...or when… I start dating. But as of now, you have nothing to worry about.” she promised.

Lusie seemed to understand Ed’s hesitation, which was more refreshing than he really cared to admit and he was glad. He wanted Lusie to understand, since he did tell her about it. Late, but that wasn’t what mattered. Lusie understood him. She wasn’t upset by how long it took him to tell her what happened. A part of him was glad that she wasn’t really asking for details either, like asking how it came about. Sure, he loved his little sister, but that was just the kind of thing he didn’t want to say out loud. Obviously Lusie knew him well enough to be aware of that.
He grinned when Lusie said that she’d tell him when she started dating. “Definitely a ‘when’, Lusie,” he encouraged her. “You’re too good for everyone to pass you by.” He did know that it would take a special guy to not be intimidated by the fact that she was royalty, and the fact that he would definitely get a talking to from Ed and probably both Will and Susan as well. He nodded, “I’m not worried about you dating, I just … wanna be aware,” he told her honestly. Of course, he’d make sure that the guy wasn’t just trying to take care of his status, but he also trusted that Lusie would be able to find someone good for her. She was a smart girl. He grinned, “That way, if he hurts you, I can arrange some sort of accident,” he teased, making it obvious by his tone that he wasn’t serious.

He encouraged her, saying that of course it would be a ‘when’ and not an ‘if’, which, she knew. She did. She had no doubt that some day she would date someone and would get married, it was borderline expected of all of them as members of the royal family. There weren’t very many royals who were single for life. While she knew the pressure to marry soon was really on Will, as the next in line for the throne, it was definitely there for all of them. “I know I will eventually, I just don’t know if it’ll happen during school.” she explained. “I feel like I’d be fairly oblivious if someone was trying to flirt with me.” she admitted, a light blush on her cheeks. She could tell when people were flirting with each other, but she wasn’t sure she could tell on herself. “I think Gilderoy Lockhart tried to flirt with me in Hogsmeade last month.” she admitted with a shrug, he had been fun to talk too but she wasn’t sure how she felt about the idea of him trying to flirt with her. But then again, he flirted with everyone. “Okay. In that case, I promise I’ll tell you; in fact, I promise you’ll be the first one I tell.” she promised her older brother. “I mean you’re probably my best friend anyway.” she told him. She wasn’t sure who else she would tell if she got a boyfriend. Her siblings, probably her roommates. That was about it.

Ed smiled when Lusie began to explain that she wasn't doubting she'd have a relationship, just doubting when it would happen. Good. He didn't want his little sister to think that she wasn't likable or anything like that, even though there was absolutely no reason for her to feel that way at all. She was understanding and kind and basically just a wonderful human being. What wasn't to like about that? He chuckled and shrugged when she talked about being oblivious. "I certainly am. I can't remember anyone flirting with me, though I'm sure Addi has occasionally. So you're definitely not alone there." Ed didn't really understand other people. He knew that when girls were cheery and giggly and such they were likely flirting and he KNEW that Lily Potter was a flirt, but other than that he really didn't pay attention.
His eyebrows furrowed when she mentioned Gilderoy Lockhart. "I don't doubt that he did," Ed muttered, somewhat darkly. He didn't necessarily have any reason to hate the other boy, other than the fact that he was very arrogant and acted as though he was better than everyone else. It was annoying. "What was he doing?" Ed asked after a second, more curious than he wanted to admit.
Lusie promised that Ed would be the first person she told when she started dating someone and Ed grinned. He loved that the two of them were close enough that she felt comfortable at the idea of telling him things like that. "I'm glad, Lus," he told her, rolling his eyes when she said that he was probably her best friend. "Probably? Who else are you thinking of?" Ed teased as he nudged her shoulder with his own.

Lusie was glad that she and her closest sibling seemed to be on the same page. She felt like it made sense that they would both be fairly oblivious. She knew Susan wasn’t the most keen when it came to relationships and flirting either, Will on the other hand, was much more confident and aware than the others. The whole family though was fairly socially awkward. It was hard not to be when you were always in the public eye and being asked questions and having your life written about in tabloids around the country and around the world. He asked what Gilderoy had done and Lusie shrugged, “He saw me sitting alone in the tea shop in the village and sat with me. He asked me to teach him French… of all things.” she said with a giggle, it still didn’t really make sense. For now, she left out the part about how he was there because his date stood him up, that wasn’t her drama to speak about.
He nudged her when she admitted that he was probably her best friend. He asked who else she was thinking about and Lusie laughed and shrugged,“I don’t know… William perhaps.” she said in an over the top, teasing manner; her eyes glistened with excitement. Ed knew as well as she did that she was closer with Ed than she was with either of her older siblings, but she felt like she was equally close with both Susan and William. She only had said Wills’ name because she knew it would get the best reaction from her Slytherin brother, even if it was just an eye roll.

Ed tried not to be too annoyed when Lusie went on to explain what Gilderoy did with her in Hogsmeade. Honestly, he shouldn't be upset at all. It wasn't like Gilderoy tried to kiss her or anything. Ed would attack him if he had, no doubt about it. "He asked you to teach him french?" Ed echoes, grimacing at the thought. "Did you agree to?" She probably had. Lusie was just that nice. Maybe Ed would need to have words with the Ravenclaw boy, make sure he knew to leave his little sister alone, apart from potential French lessons. Blegh. It was hard enough (and annoying enough) having to learn the language for yourself without sticking someone else in the mix.
Lusie was teasing. Edmund was fully aware of that fact, from her obvious tone, but that didn't stop the moan from escaping him, along with the faux glare. "Come on! You're closer with me than with him and Susan." Maybe not them put together, but she and Ed talked all the time and, for some reason, he wanted her to actually admit that to him. Interesting.

Ed asked if Lusie had agreed to teach the Ravenclaw boy French, she nodded but also shrugged. “I told that that I would, but I really don’t think it’ll ever happen.” she admitted. It was just something she had said in the moment, she doubted that he would even remember. She remembered what she had said to the Ravenclaw boy and she smiled, she knew her brother would get a laugh out of it. “I told him that I didn’t think he had the patience to learn more than two words.” she giggled. She wasn’t sure those were exactly the words that she used, but they were along the same lines. Of course, he had insisted that he had patience and he wanted to sit with a cute girl and learn, but she still didn’t buy it. Nor, did she buy that he thought she was cute. With all the girls he went out with, how on Earth could she be compared to them?
Lusie got the desired reaction from her brother when she teased him with her answer on who else would be considered her best friend. “Oh come on, you know I was teasing. Of course you’re my best friend, Edmund.” she smiled and patted his shoulder lovingly. She did care for her brother very much, she couldn’t really think of someone in her life that she was closer to than Edmund.

Ed really didn't like the idea of his little sister giving Gilderoy Lockhart some one on one assistance with his French, but it wasn't like he could stop her or anything. He didn't have any control over her. He huffed, "Well, if it does can you let me know firsts?" Ed asked. He wouldn't stalk them, he trusted Lusie, but he might find Lockhart and warn him not to make any moves on Ed's little sister. He chortled when she told him what she said to the other boy. "Oh, that's perfect! What did he say to that?" Ed couldn't help but give the follow up question, even though he was sure Lusie expected it.
He grinned when Lusie finally admitted that she was teasing and that he was her best friend. "Good," Ed said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and giving her a side hug. "So is there anything else you wanna talk about? I'm all yours," he told her, wanting to make sure that she knew he was there for her. He always wanted to make sure Lusie knew that.

Lusie nodded when her brother asked if she would tell him first before she began to tutor Gilderoy Lockhart in French. She really didn’t see it happening, but if it did happen, she figured she might as well tell her brother, it wasn’t like she wanted to keep anything from him. “I don’t remember entirely, something about me doubting his abilities, probably.” she said, dismissively. It had been a fun conversation, with the Ravenclaw in the village, but, she couldn’t recall a lot of it. She had been so nervous, oddly. But she often got a little nervous while talking with strangers, she never knew who wanted to get to know her for her, or because she was a princess of England. And she had a feeling that Gilderoy just wanted to know a princess. Ed gave Lusie a little side hug when she admitted that he was her best friend, she rolled her eyes a little, but the smile on her face wasn’t fooling anyone. He then asked her if there was anything else that she wanted to talk about and she shrugged, “I don’t think so. I’m actually feeling like I might burst, maybe I shouldn’t have eaten all that pie.” he said with a giggle. “I think I’m going to go out and take a walk to work some of it off.” she explained. “Send my love to Addi.” she teased, kissing his cheek before getting up and making her way out of the great hall.

Ed nodded, glad when she said that she'd let him know if she actually did tutor Gilderoy. Good. That was something Ed wanted to know and if Lusie said she'd tell him, he was certain she would. She was good at keeping her word like that. He snorted when she said that he probably said something about her doubting his abilities. "Probably," he agreed, turning his attention back to the food in front of him. How was he still eating? Honestly, it was like he'd been eating all day, but he didn't seem to want to stop now, even though he was about to burst. He smirked when he saw the smile on his sister's face after his hug. At least him hugging her in public didn't embarrass her. She said she didn't have anything else she wanted to talk about and Ed chuckled. "Okay, you walk that pie off ... I'm going to stay here and keep shoveling it in," he confessed, his smile widening when she mentioned Addi again. "I will. See ya, sis!" He watched her leave the Great Hall and then focused on his food once again. --- the end --- @lusie
