In the time that Dana Woods-Knox spent at her astronomer job, examining the skies, the moons and the stars the Knox girl rarely found herself stepping into the world that was England itself. For days on end, she would find herself, head resting upon her desk as she had fallen asleep from the previous night, while one end was scattered with research papers of her own and the other littered with both plastic and paper cups once filled with coffee or even tea – which had become her replacement from the menthol cigarettes she had decided to give up smoking, curse Lars and his convincing words. Amongst those cups rested framed images that hid in the background with family, friends and pals the blonde had graduated with, and at times Dana would find herself staring back at them, reminding her of simpler times. Although, as of lately as well as because of work, Dana also found herself residing in the Muggle home within London that she originally refused to visit after her father and younger sister’s death, but seemed to find comfort especially with December nearing the corner.
Another Christmas without them she thought to herself as she walked onto another pavement in the streets of London. She had the intention to do some kind of shopping for herself, perhaps purchase a new wand, or another magical accomplice to revive her home, a sort of maid per-say. As well as potentially find a stronger coffee that would quench her cravings and the blonde was sure a flick of a wand could create such a thing. The cold November air soon rushed to her face rather quickly and Dana found herself tugging at the scarf sitting comfortably around her neck, pulling it so it reached just shy from her nose. Her blue eyes soon began to water from the bitter cold as she walked towards Charring Cross Road. A pale hand dug into her jacket for her phone, pulling it out she scanned the screen as she read the preview of many texts. Along with today’s date 23rd November 2024, the blonde also read texts from both Tamara Finch, an old friend along with Lars – who was finalising their plans for another meet up before one of his matches against the Appleby Arrows – his “sworn enemies” he calls them.
@vik & hope this works!

Today was a good day. Granted, most days for Vik turned out that way. He was convinced it had everything to do with his positive outlook on life, though he knew some people would argue with that philosophy. Still, it worked for him. He'd just finished a job with Rai. It wasn't a particularly big one, but it was exciting. They'd almost been caught, but of course they were too good for that. Both of them separated as they left the scene, blending into the crowds with practiced ease. Vik had been doing this since he was a young kid in the orphanage. He should be good at it by now.
Still, the thrill was the same as it always was. As he walked down the street, Vik couldn't keep himself from smiling as he fingered the priceless jewelry he carried in his pocket. Just the fact that he and Rai could steal it without really having any troubles was impressive, not that anyone would know. Soon enough they'd get it to their buyer and things would be just fine. The authorities were still stopping random people on the street, but Vik wasn't particularly worried. They didn't have a method to what they were doing, so the chance they would stop him was infinitesimal.
He saw a familiar figure walking in the crowd ahead of him and smiled as he made his way to Dana. "Hey I know you," Vik said, his tone clearly teasing. "If it isn't Dana. How are you doing?" Vik greeted her as if they talked all the time, mostly because to him a few years didn't matter. They were still friends so why shouldn't he talk to her as such?

The sound of a voice calling out Dana's name lead to the blonde pushing her phone back into her pocket, blonde curls flopping to the side as Dana lifted her head in the direction her name was called. Her blue eyes were invited by a familiar face – the same face that she hadn’t seen for years on end. ”Vik” She breathed, a smile touching her lips as the two greeted one another. Out of frustration and from not seeing her friend for so long, the blonde hit his arm lightly, a pout on her lips. ”I feel like I haven’t seen you since your graduation.” She began before adding ”No owl to let me know you’re at least okay?”
Dana remembered the first time she had met Vik alongside Lars upon the Lake that sunny day. While it was a good day filled with a good vibe, the Knox girl remembered returning to her dorms filled with fatigue and exhausted because of the amount of magic she had used against her elder. But all in all, she had fun. ”I’m fine.” She smiled as she began once more. ”Living the…The ultimate dream. And Lars has come back home so.” Dana shrugged – what more could she ask for?

Vik grinned when he saw Dana smiling. At least she recognized him, that was definitely a good thing. He wasn't sure if she would, since it really had been so long since the last time they talked with one another. Still, she was a pretty smart girl. He was sure she wouldn't forget him entirely. Still, no way for him to know that for sure. He laughed when he punched his arm a tiny bit, rolling his eyes. "That would be because you haven't seen my since graduation," he quipped. Then she was asking why he didn't send an owl and he shrugged, "No owl asking me if I was okay?" Vik wasn't the type to really start writing someone. Sure, he'd answer if he got something, but he was really too caught up in living the moment to start communicating, but her question went both ways. She could have spoken to him if she wanted.
Dana answered his question saying that she was fine and living the dream. Vik quirked his head to the side. He really didn't know what her ultimate dream was, couldn't remember what she was passionate about. "... and what does that dream entail?" he asked, fishing to figure out what she was doing now but not wanting to come outright and say he didn't know. His eyes widened a little when she spoke about Lars. "He did? Man, I need to look him up," Vik was more mumbling to himself now than talking to her, but he did want to talk to his friend. It had been a long time.

Dana Knox found herself shrugging around the same time as Vik did, followed by a giggle as she noticed her actions were reflecting his. While it was true that the blonde could have sent an owl to begin a conversation with her elder, the Knox girl blamed her availability on her job – as most of the research projects within the role of an astronomer sucked away at Dana’s free time. Which included her daily hobbies of Quidditch playing/seeking, writing and even watching movies alone. ”I’m sorry.” She apologised with a pout. But she knew now, it was a sign from somewhere that allowed these two to meet again, even after a very long time.
”You forgot?” Dana questioned, her hand rising to her chest as she stared at her elder, fake shock washing across her face. There were many times Dana didn’t shut up about her dream job while other times her rambles remained in her mind. ”I work as an astronomer!” She exclaimed, her hands clapping together to express her excitement. ”You know, someone said all those times staring off into space actually paid off.” Dana soon nodded in response to Vik before adding in of Lars’ success in the Quidditch line of field, she then tugged at his arm, slipping her own in the small loop he had – a grin on her lips. ”What about you? What has my elder been up to lately?”

Vik smirked when he noticed that Dana was copying him. He was going to make some sort of comment about it, but then she laughed, showing she’d already noticed as well. All right, if she already realized what she was doing, he could simply enjoy teasing her a little bit then. She apologized, pouting and Vik laughed loudly. “You don’t have to be sorry about it,” he chided gently. “Neither of us wrote. We could try to do better at that from now on, if you want.” Once again, he wouldn’t start the communication, but if she did he would definitely answer.
He rolled his eyes when she acted all offended that he didn’t remember what she wanted to do. “In my defense, Dana, most of my time with you was spent fake-dueling, not talking about our dream jobs,” he reminded her with a chuckle. He was sure she’d mentioned it at least once, because she obviously thought he would remember without her having to tell him, but he didn’t. She got excited, telling him she was an astronomer. “Oooooh!” Vik answered, smiling, “You mean that’s why you were always looking up at the sky? Man, wish I would have known that before. Why did you never tell me?” he teased, unable to resist. It was nice to run into old friends like Dana. The back and forth was just fun and he appreciated it.
She took hold of his arm and he started walking down the street to a small café that wasn’t too far away. If she was going to take his arm like that, he was going to make it worth it and get some food out of it. He didn’t say anything though, smirking as he imagined her asking where he was going. Nope, it would be much more fun to make her guess. He shrugged at her question. “I’ve been around. Spent a few years with muggles, doing some research.” More like, practicing his skills on them before moving on to the big fries. “Decided to come back to the wizarding community just a few weeks ago,” he told her casually, like it was no big deal. He enjoyed coming back. Most people didn’t remember him too much, so he could basically go about as he pleased.

”I would like that!” Dana stated in a response to his decision. As of lately, Dana found herself writing more owls to and from friends and her mother, updating those who cared like Peyton Bainbridge, a friend of Noah’s before the accident. She also brought it up to Lars who had somewhat disappeared over the past year, but the two reunited somewhere in Diagon Alley sometime back in September. A giggle left the blonde’s lips against his remark and soon she found herself nodding. It was true, aside from sharing a friend, the two’s personal dreams and private lives had some distance between themselves. ”I suppose.” She beamed, folding her arms against her chest to keep in her body warmth.
A blush crept onto the Knox girl’s cheeks as Vik teased her, even if it was entirely true. Dana was always found looking up at the skies, day or night, in class or even with friends. The sky was her own distraction, a means of escape during her difficult times. She would find herself watching the sky for hours on end, at times from when the sun came up to when the sun went down. It was just her thing. ”You never asked!” She stated in response, nudging him lightly against his teasing remark. Between the two of them, their back-and-forth banter was something she thoroughly enjoyed and deeply missed.
Dana found herself rather puzzled as Vik started walking with her in a certain direction. ”I’m guessing we’re going to someplace you…like?” She questioned, the smile touching her lips returning there. As the two walked, Dana nodded: listening. ”How were they? The muggles? Somewhat strange and irritating right?” As a half-blood herself, Dana grew up around muggles for the first 11 years of her life and if it wasn’t for Tamara and Tia to keep her sane, she would have went insane. After discovering magic, Dana had never been more thankful to take pride in her pureblood mother and the family.
Just a few weeks ago? Dana thought to herself. ”So how long were you with them for?” Surprise washed over the Knox girl’s face. It was interesting to see Vik barely change, in both appearance and attitude. The memories the two shared were memories she had cherished after Vik and many of her elder friends graduated.

Vik wasn’t surprised in the least when his friend said that she liked the idea of them writing to one another. She was definitely the type who liked to stay in contact with the people she cared about, which somehow included him. Vik wasn’t upset about that in the least. It was nice to have people who cared what happened to you. He chuckled, “Yeah, I thought you might,” he teased her, unable to help himself.
He barked out a laugh when the girl said that “she supposed” they didn’t spend lots of time talking about their aspirations. She supposed? It was the way things were with them. They teased, dueled, but rarely ever talked with one another. It hadn’t been on purpose and Vik wouldn’t mind developing a closer friendship with the girl- she’d earned his respect that much- it just hadn’t been that way yet in their friendship. Vik smirked when Dana started to blush. He might not have really known why she looked up at the sky so much, but it wasn’t hard to guess. Still, teasing her about it was infinitely more fun. “Oh, so you don’t just offer this kind of information out to old friends? One would think that if it were your passion you’d find a reason to talk about it,” he continued to tease, still laughing softly, nudging her shoulder back.
The look on her face when he started walking was hilarious. Vik nodded at her question. “Of course. I’m not going to make us catch up out in the middle of the street where it’s all cold and crowded. You don’t mind, do you?” he asked, quirking an eyebrow at her. She was walking along with him, which was a good enough sign and he wasn’t really worried about it to begin with.
Not everyone got along with muggles well. Vik knew that, it was one of the reasons that the pureblood crowd in Hogwarts never truly accepted him, but Vik found that getting along with them was fairly easy. The kind of crowd was more fun than the rest, and they helped him get better at his trade, so that was a benefit. Still, Dana didn’t know that. He shrugged at her question. “No, not really. I spent a lot of time as a child with muggles, so it’s not something new to me. I know how they think and stuff.” Then he chuckled, a little darkly, “Besides, the people I like to hang out with are a bit more fun than the rest.” Vik couldn’t care less about the boring muggles. He wanted to spend his time with the fun ones. “I joined the muggles the fall after I graduated, so I was there for a bit,” Vik answered with ease. A few years, he lost count. Didn’t really care to count, actually, but that was mostly because he was too lazy. “I’m enjoying being back though.”

Dana Knox found herself rolling her eyes, lightly hitting the side of her friend’s arm once more as he just couldn’t help himself. From the day they first met through their mutual friend, the blonde gathered that Vik loved to tease others with the simplest of words, which was completely and utterly evident around the topic of owls. ”Sorry I’d like to keep in touch! Shall I change my mind?”
The blonde let out a long and exaggerated groan in response to his next instalment of teases in relation to the topic of aspirations and future dreams. Whenever the two were together it was usually alongside their mutual friend Lars and always ended up in a worn-out duel between the two where Vik would use his sneaky magic that Dana wanted to learn and practice till this very day. ”I would have had the chance if someone didn’t unofficially duel me every time we saw one another!” She responded, a joking pout clear on her lips. ”Besides I told you what I now do, but you haven’t mentioned one thing about your current job.” Dana soon shook her head as they walked. She somewhat agreed, who caught up in the middle of the street to talk for hours on end? People who clearly wanted a cold.
A bit more fun than the rest? The blonde questioned herself, drawing lines in her mind to possible answers. But when her brain drew a blank she found herself repeating the question aloud. It was nice to see that Vik had spent some of his time wisely, unlike Dana when she had free time of her own. Around the accident, teachers were more lenient towards her but the blonde goofed off to smoke cigarettes and drink cheap alcohol. Ah how the tables have turned.

Vik held his hands up in a sign of submission when Dana hit his arm, rolling her eyes at her teasing. “No, no! I like the idea of staying in touch.” Vik smirked as he continued, “You’ll just want to remember to start it because I can guarantee to you right now that I won’t remember on my own.” If she owled him he would answer, but otherwise … it was likely that the next time they ran into one another they would have a similar conversation.
Vik laughed at her argument, immediately challenging it. “Oh come on! You were the one constantly trying to take me by surprise. It’s not like I was the only one that enjoyed those,” he told her confidently. Sure, he might have started them sometimes, but it wasn’t always him. He knew that Dana enjoyed their constant duels. It was actually one of the reasons he considered her such a good friend. There was something about friendly dueling with a person that Vik thought brought them closer to one another. That and it was just plain fun to duel someone who was so determined to catch him off guard. He laughed when she mentioned that he hadn’t told her what he did yet. “You never asked before,” he answered, his tone airy and condescending before it broke and he grinned over at her. “I handle a lot of ancient artifacts, magical and not,” Vik told her easily. Now that he was re-entering the magical world, it was almost like he had to explain this to people constantly. He didn’t mind though. It was becoming almost normal for him now.
She didn’t say anything when he commented about spending his time with people that were more fun. Honestly, Vik didn’t really spend a good deal of time with anyone other than Rai, but now that he was rejoining the magical community he found himself in contact with old friends. It was much more enjoyable than he anticipated, but that was a good thing. He liked seeing his old friends again. Still, if she wasn’t going to say anything about that, he wasn’t either.
He walked into a small café, turning toward his friend with a smile. “Do you want anything? My treat,” he offered. He knew she had a job, but she wouldn’t be coming here if it wasn’t for him and he didn’t mind paying for her. It was just nice to see an old friend again.

The Knox girl left out a soft laugh as Vik spoke. She knew his forgetful nature and how the elder Slytherin seemed to forget many things. ”I’ll start a string of owls next week, considering I know I won’t see you for another year or something.” Vik seemed to always disappear at the strangest of times for the strangest of things. The muggle story was one thing Dana wasn’t expecting, considering how Vik seemed to value his power – but then again, she didn’t exactly know her elder as much as she thought she did.
The blonde couldn’t help but laugh at his response, knowing the truth from it and how every word he spouted was entirely the truth. The duel between the two of them was one of her favourite things, even if she tried to throw unexpected spells in his direction. Although, the memory of it reminded Dana that she definitely had no clue how to beat Vik in a fight, considering there were times he didn’t even mutter the spell. As the two aged with one another, Dana had always promised him a re-match and seemed to lose most of the matches. She cursed her determination and her eagerness to send a spell in his direction as the reason for his preparation. ”I’ll win one of them one day…” She challenged, the grin returning to the corner of her lips once more. Vik was the kind of friend she could use to help brighten her day because of their simple duels.
”I never asked because I never had the opportunity to do so.” She remarked, the Knox nudging his arm gently. ”But interesting! You’ll have to show me the variety in them sometime.” She suggested, a grin on her lips. As the two walked into the café, wide blue eyes watched as her friend turned, requesting if she wanted anything. She felt grateful to have a nice friend Vik and began to draw up her thoughts. Her cravings definitely linked towards coffee but sweet coffee. And so the first words that left her mouth were: ”Caramel Latte!”

Vik rolled his eyes as his blonde friend started to tease him. "Hey, hey! I just need one owl and I'll answer it," he defended himself. He was actually pretty good at answering things, so long as he wanted to. This run-in with Dana was proving to Vik that he wanted to see his friends. At least, he wanted to see some of them and keep in contact with them. Obviously, Dana was among that number. "And when I do, we can plan another time to hang out together," he promised.
When she insisted that one of these days she would win one of their duels, Vik couldn't help but smirk. "Really? You haven't grown out of that desire to beat me yet? What kind of an adult are you?" He teased the younger girl, not feeling the need to hold back like he might have with others. Vik shrugged, "Then again ... I'm always down for the practice. Let me know when you're up for it." Basically, he had fun dueling the younger girl. Dana was smart and kept him on his toes, which was a very good way for him to practice.
"You never made the opportunity," Vik teased, the grin wide on his face. He nodded, "Yeah, I can show you. If you want me to have some good ones ready to show you, give me some advance notice." Otherwise, Vik was pretty good at selling what he got quickly. Didn't want to be caught with the items, of course, but he could plan some good ones for his friend. He laughed when she practically sang what she wanted. Rolling his eyes, he ordered two of them, deciding he might as well give it a try. He was in an adventurous mood. "So," he said, leading her to a table and then sitting across from her while they waited for their drinks. "What do you want to talk about now?" He might as well let her get a few questions in here and there.

Time spent with Vik was always amusing for the Knox girl as she always found her way around his teases and vice versa. The two were perfect friends as they usually fell into their playful nature – right now being a perfect evident moment. When Vik stated he would just need the singular owl in order to respond, Dana’s grin cracked upon her lips once more. ”Suuureeee.” She said, stretching out the vowels of the word. ”But I would like that. It would be nice to at least see you more than once a year or so.” Even though moments with Vik were usually paired with Lars or rather brief, she enjoyed their time together nevertheless.
”The one that hates to lose!” She exclaimed, throwing her hands into the air. Competition was one thing Dana was known for back in her prime Quidditch days, starting off in the team was rather slow for her, considering her first position as a Beater but when Lars stepped down and handed over the title of the best Slytherin Seeker to herself, the fuel that burned the flame finding its way inside of her. ”Challenge accepted then. For our next reunion!” She declared, a beaming smile flashing in his direction. With the events that hit her home as of recent, practice for a potential real threat wasn’t so much of a bad idea.
”For the next reunion then?” The blonde asked. ”Whenever that may be.” As the two walked over to the table, Dana shrugged off her jacket and soon sat across from her friend, her hands fumbling with one another in an attempt to get her distracted. ”Anything and Everything.” She stated with a giggle before adding in: ”Well. I’m trying to quit smoking. But I don’t think its going well.” She suggested, motioning to her hands.

Vik grinned when Dana teased him back about only needing one owl in order to respond to it. He nodded in agreement, "Definitely. I always enjoy talking with you," he told her easily. While Vik wasn't always very open with other people and few of them knew the true him, he definitely had people that he liked being around. Dana was definitely one of those, even though she wasn't one that he confided his secrets in. "Let me know the next time you're missing me," he teased, "that way we can meet up and I won't have to deal with you getting after me for 'hiding'."
He laughed when she shouted her answer, saying she was the kind of adult that hated to lose. "Oh come now Dana. It's been years since you've lost to me. Are you saying you haven't moved on at all since then?" Vik smirked, loving the way this conversation was going. She was making it so easy for him to tease her. He enjoyed it immensely. He nodded when she said that they should duel the next time they got together. "Deal. Make sure you're prepared for it so you don't have any excuses when I win." He hadn't lost yet, but he mostly just said that to get under her skin.
She said she wanted to talk about everything then and Vik rolled his eyes at that. "I don't think we have quite enough time for that, my friend," he said gently. Then he nodded as she explained trying to quit smoking. "And why is that? Are you not doing it or is it just very difficult." He twisted his head to the side a little. "Isn't there a potion that could help with that?" Vik wasn't sure, but there were potions for most things ... he wouldn't be surprised if that was one of them.

It was natural for Dana to blush whenever she felt welcomed, wanted or complimented. And right now, her friend was providing with that all. Vik was the person she leaned on while her heart ached for his friend. As cliché as it sounded. But with her chances fading with every possibility, maybe it was time for Dana to move on, try something new. ”Gee, thanks.” She beamed, lightly nudging the elder Slytherin. ”When I’m missing you?” She questioned, a hand gliding over her chest to show some kind of fake offensive. ”Don’t you mean when you miss me?” The blonde teased, giggling afterwards. ”But fine. I guess that’s a good solution.”
How could Dana move on from such an event. He beat her carelessly back then and the thought of their duel whacked her brain every so often. Especially as to how he casted all those spells without a murmur or even opening of his lips. ”Uh…Duh?” Dana could tell that Vik was enjoying the things, the words and actions she pushed out for her friend, considering most of his responses were said in order to tease her. Luckily enough, over the years of getting to know the elder man, the Knox developed a thick skin against his teasing words and more so developed a silver tongue to use against him. ”When you win? Pftt. If you say so.” Oh he was most definitely going to win. While Dana had learned some new things to defend and attack for herself, her stamina in a duel remained poor as ever.
”We have enough time in the world.” The blonde declared, pressing her back against the chair she sat in. Clearing her throat, a pale hand pushed past blonde locks, while her head turned to the side, avoiding Vik’s gaze. ”A bit of both. It’s difficult to do when it’s the only thing you’re used to doing…To relieve stress.” Although, Vik had a point when he mentioned the potions, but in a response – the Knox shrugged. ”If there is, I don’t think I’d try it.” Being a half-blood made the blonde realise there were times you wanted to rely on magic while others reminded you to not forget of your muggle, human side. A fight with herself over a small addiction to minty nicotine was one of those self-fights.
