Viktor was up early just as he always was. He wasn’t one to sleep in and while in the past that was a good thing. He was retired now, he could sleep in all he wanted yet his body just wouldn’t allow it. A lifetime of being up bright and early stopped that. He wandered their rather large house and emptier house doing nothing of note. His wife was already off to work at the ministry and his children at their own jobs and homes or at Hogwarts. Viktor had the idea that his retirement would involve his children more but in truth two of them were already old enough to be on their own. They didn’t need him around as much as before and his other two would be spending most of their time at hogwarts anyway. His wife had suggested he get a job just to pass the time but he had no idea what to do. All Krum really knew how to do was play Quidditch. She had told him to try and be a Quidditch announcer but he shot that down quickly. His accent had gotten better over the years of being in England but he wasn’t that confidant.
instead he found ways to busy himself or at least to try to. Exercise was one them and it also helped keep him from getting soft as he put it. That was one of his main fears when the topic of him retiring came up. He didn’t want to be one of those people who got all soft and lazy because he didn’t have anything else to do. The other was his random walks. Between Hogsmeade and Diagon alley or just over parts of London. He mainly went to Hogsmeade in the hopes he would run into one of his two children still in school. Yet today he decided to go to Diagon alley. There was no other reason than to wonder around and get out of the house and he walked out from the leaky cauldron he just made his way down the alley. Honestly just looking to kill sometime and enjoyed when people still recognized him. Before it used to bug him but not that he was retired it was just a nice reminded that people knew who he was still even if he hadn't been retired for too long yet.

Irina had come in early to Gringotts to get a head start on the dreary task set for her the evening before. Taking inventory she supposed was a very important part of what the Cursebreakers did after bringing back the treasure for the bank. But did it have to be so boring? Irina had to shake her head multiple times to keep herself alert and to be sure she didn’t double count anything in the treasure room. The trip a few of the Cursebreakers had just gotten back from in Egypt had been very successful, and their seniority meant they got out of notating everything they had managed to bring back in the hefty ledger book. The goblins of course, would check the inventory log to make sure it matched what they counted in the room, but they insisted a human pair of eyes, and hands, did it first. Bloody hell, how many ruby encrusted bangles did these Cursebreakers find? Irina’s eyes drifted over to the summary of the raid; they had apparently belonged to an ancient Pharoh’s wife, who had been a gifted sorceress in her own right. No cursebreaker had been able to find the fabled tomb before this year, much less break the curse on it. Luckily, they had succeeded, and all seventy seven bracelets were now accounted for. Irina stood and stretched, groaning a little at the creak in her neck. How long had she been down here, going crossed eyed from the dozens of bracelets she had just recorded? She glanced down at her watch; it was nearly lunchtime, and Irina was starving. Deciding she could do with going a few minutes early, she put on her jacket and hurried up the stairs, quickly stopping to tell the head goblin the treasury was ready for its second check. Trying not to roll her eyes at the mistrustful look on his face, Irina stepped out into the cold fall afternoon. Shoving her hands in her pockets and cursing the fact that her gloves were on her dresser back at the apartment, Irina headed down the cobblestoned alley, mulling over the ideas of where she could go to satiate her appetite. She almost knocked into someone, and before she could mumble an apology, she immediately recognized the boots the man was wearing. A smile spread across her face as she looked up into the face of her father, Viktor Krum. “Papa!” she exclaimed, reaching up on her toes to plant a kiss on his whiskered cheek. “What brings you to Diagon Alley?” she asked him curiously. Her hunger had dissipated slightly at the welcome presence of her father; she could easily spare the time to talk to him, and perhaps convince him to come with her to lunch. @viktor

Viktor hadn’t been expecting much from his walk down Diagon Alley. All this really was, was an attempt to just not go stir crazy from being home bored too much. Knowing Irina worked in Gringotts was an interesting thought the first couple of times he had come to just get out of the house. Still Viktor never attempted to bug her at work. She was a busy woman now with a full time job, she didn’t need her father just showing up while she was trying to work. Edrik was busy with Quidditch and while he would probably always be welcome for whatever his old team was doing he didn’t need to feel out of place and bring down their training. Possibly his wife was right more than he thought, he really needed to find something to preoccupy all this time he had on his hands now. He was coming up on Grinngots now, if he didn’t think of anything Viktor could always stop at the Quidditch shop.
In his preoccupied state he nearly walked into someone, they hadn’t been paying attention either and it took Viktor a second or two too realize just who it was. She realized it first though. The slight embarrassment of almost walking into someone was eased by the fact it was Irina. “Vell this is a pleasant surprise.” He said with a big smile as he was always happy to see one of his children. She kissed his cheek like normal before asking what brought him to Diagon Alley. “A father can’t come see his favorite eldest daughter?” Viktor explained for a moment as if that was his main reason for coming today. Though he would liked to for it to have been he just didn’t want to be an annoyance. “To be honest, I just needed to get out of the house for a bit. How’s vork? Are you on break?”

Irina wrinkled her nose up at her father and smiled. “Of course you don’t need an excuse Papa,” she told him, shaking her head as he explained he just needed to get out of the house. “Mama is right, you need to find something to occupy your time. For now, let’s occupy it with lunch with your favorite Cursebreaking daughter?” she suggested, sliding her arm through his and looking up at her father with her puppy dog eyes. Knowing he’d say yes, Irina tugged him away from the entrance to Gringotts and back down the cobblestone alleyway. “I typically go to the Leaky Cauldron for a quick bite; a good friend of mine from schools’ mother owns the establishment so they’re really lovely to all Hogwarts alums,” she explained. Instead of stopping at the old tavern however, Irina led them out back through the entrance onto the busy Muggle streets. “I am craving some Peri chicken and chips though, so let’s go to this lovely Muggle chain called Nandos,” she decided, steering him to the right to get to the closest Nandos’ restaurant. When they arrived, Irina plucked two menus up off the counter as they were shown to their seats. “They have amazing chicken here, with such a huge variety of sauces to marinate them in,” she told him, pointing out the different meal items on the menu, taking care to mention what she thought he’d like. “Have you ever been here?” she asked curiously. Nando’s had been around for decades; she had no idea if her father had ever stepped foot in one, but it was always possible. @viktor ooc: nandossss

Viktor laughed quietly as Irina made a slight movement with her nose before smiling toward him, explaining he didn’t need an excuse to see her. Which was a nice thing to hear, he still wouldn’t show up out of the blue yet if it happened it was good to know he wasn’t getting in the way of her work. Irina agreed with her mother about him needing to get something to preoccupy himself during his retirement and Viktor just laughed once more. “Tell me about it but lunch does sound good.” Even before he agreed Irina had already taken his arm and started moving them down Diagon Alley. Irina explained as they walked where she normally went for lunch on her breaks. “Longbottoms, right? I’m not so out of the loop.” He replied with a nod, he didn’t add that the only reason he knew this was because of his wife. She had mentioned in passing once while Neville Longbottom was headmaster that his wife ran the Leaky Cauldron. “Is he still ill?” Viktor hadn’t heard otherwise so he still assumed so. While he had expected them to be eating at the Leaky Cauldron Irina just led him through it and out into the muggle streets of London. Irina explained how she felt like going to a muggle restaurant instead for lunch. Just about anything sounded good to Viktor, he never was a picky one when it came to food anyway. “I’d say lead the vay but you’re already doing that.” He joked while she continued to guide him toward where they were going. It wasn’t a far walk which was a good thing, not that he didn’t want to spend time with his daughter but she had work to get back to. He didn’t need to be the reason she would be late getting back. Taking their seats Irina explained a little about what the place had and asked if had been here before. “I don’t believe I have but it’s always good to try different places.” Which wasn’t entirely wrong in Viktor’s eyes as he scanned the menu. Many things did sound good and it helped that Viktor had never been a picky eater. “So, How is vork? Break any interesting curses?”

Irina's smile faltered for a moment when Viktor asked after Neville. She had remained good friends with Phil after graduation, keeping in touch as he traveled the world. She could tell from the words on the parchment however, that no matter how many times Phil said his father was fine, he wasn't. "Yes, he is still ill Papa. He hasn't gotten any better," she said softly. She reached for her fathers' hand and squeezed it tightly. She couldn't imagine what the Longbottom family was going through, and hoped she never would have a reason to feel that way. She took the menus from their holder and passed one to her father. "It's chicken Papa, don't worry it's not too crazy," she told him with a smile. After they had decided what they wanted, they returned to the table to await their meals. "Work is good, great actually," she responded, brightening at the question. She knew her mother had always wanted Irina, with her natural talent on a broomstick, to follow in her parents footsteps as Edrik had. Viktor however, had always been a support, encouraging her to follow her dreams, and she was forever grateful for that. "I am embarking on an expedition next week to Mexico, actually. The senior Cursebreakers have a lead on something big in one of the ancient Mayan temples, and have almost narrowed it down to a smaller area. With so many temples, it would take ages if they sent someone off right away," she explained. Their meals arrived, and Irina took a large bite of her chicken sandwich. "I went to Kenya back in October with my mentor, her name is Lilith," she added. She told him about the treasure hunt they had embarked on. It had been a relatively easy assignment, but she was pretty sure that was due to her green status as a Cursebreaker. "I...I love it Papa, and I wanted to thank you for believing in my dreams," she told him, taking his hand again in hers. "But what about you? What's been going on since I moved out in September?" she asked. She knew the basics of course, but it wasn't every day she had some father daughter time with the great Viktor Krum. @viktor

Irina confirmed that Neville Longbottom was indeed still ill, it was hard to imagine magical healing to be stumped at times but it happened. He could only hope that he made a recovery eventually. As he thought that Irina reached for his hand and gave it a small squeeze. It had been some time since one of his children had held his hand and he wouldn’t fight it. “That’s a shame, I’ve always heard good things about him.” was all really Viktor could say. He couldn’t remember if he had ever met Neville before during his teen years. He had met many of the people who would fight against the dark lord during his teen years. Hermione, Harry, Luna and Ron and most of the Weasley family. Yet he couldn’t think of a time where he had spoken to Neville. There was no reason for it but he felt a sense of guilt for that.
As he continued to scan the menu his daughter assured him that it was chicken and nothing too unusual. He laughed a little, as he just ordered something that he hoped would be good. It sounded good at least. Irina explained that work had actually been going great. It was nice to hear that she was enjoying her line of work. “Vell that’s vonderful.” He replied as she continued to explain more about her work and where she was going to go. It did indeed sound interesting. Going on to explain another place she had been as well. “I’m glad you’re getting to see the vorld vith your job. I got to see many amazing placing vhen ve vould tour for Quidditch games. It vas part of the fine I von’t lie.” He laughed as he thought back to some of the strange places Quidditch had taken him in his life. Their food arrived and he took a bite, he figured it would be good but he was still surprised that it had been.
Viktor was caught a bit off guard as Irina thanked him for believing in dream to be a curse breaker. Viktor had always hoped his family would all be Quidditch players. Partly because it was what he enjoyed most and partly because it was something he knew well, could teach and pass down. Still these were his children’s lives not his. “I’ll be honest with you, there vas a small hope that I’d end up having enough children for a Krum family Quidditch team.” Viktor laughed jokingly even if he had passed that idea along to his wife yet she explained she was happy with just the four children. “It’s just part of being a father, always believe in your children and vhat they vant to be.” He had seen far too many parents pressuring their kids both as a teen and as an adult. Irina asked how he been since she moved out and Viktor just shrugged. “It’s quieter at home, you and Edrik have moved out, your mother is at vork during the day and both your sisters are at school.” Viktor explained between bites, it wasn’t any of their faults that his life had become a little more boring. He just needed to figure out what he wanted to do outside being just retired.

Irina wrinkled her nose but smiled all the same at her fathers’ quip about a Krum family Quidditch team. “Very funny Dad,” she said with a laugh. She knew there was some truth to what he said; both Viktor and Elena were stellar Quidditch players in their own rights, so it would be natural to hold a candle of hope that their children would follow in their footsteps. Well, at least they got one out of four, and that was better than none. Edrik was doing well on the Arrows, and while Ana liked Quidditch her true passion was football. Irina had a feeling that her mother wasn’t too keen on the idea of Ana pursuing a Muggle career, but their father valued their happiness above everything. “I appreciate it though, truly. It’s not every day the famous Viktor and Elena Krums’ daughter defies the expectations and becomes a Cursebreaker,” she told him smiling. They sat and ate in a comfortable silence for awhile, Irina enjoying her chicken sandwich and peri-coated fries. “You know, if you really are bored, you can always see if the Ministry needs help with combating the forces of evil and what not,” she suggested, wiping her lips with a napkin daintily. “Plus, I’m sure Hermione would be welcome a friendly face with Harry having gone missing,” she added, raising a brow at him. She was very well aware of her father and the Ministers’ past, but Hermione had never been anything but warm and friendly towards the Krum children. She and Rose had not exactly seen eye to eye, and Ron hadn’t exactly enjoyed their presence at family gatherings, but Hermione had never been that way. “It’d keep you occupied, and fighting evil is in our family’s blood after all,” she emphasized. @viktor

“Thanks,” Viktor replied with a laugh as Irina called him funny. She was a smart girl and probably knew he would have loved for a whole Quidditch family yet if his children wished to follow different paths in life he couldn’t nor wouldn’t force them into something they didn’t like. The biggest part of Quidditch besides the joy of winning for Viktor was just how much he loved the sport to begin with. Without that love there was no point forcing someone to play or keep insisting on it. Irina continued, thanking him for his support. Talking about the expectations that might have been expected of her. “Maybe that’s vot others might have expected from the krum children, your mother and my expectations were for our kids to be happy and possibly do amazing things with their lives.” Viktor explained, which became the plan after the slight hinting of a Quidditch family was squashed. “So far I can say both my adult children are doing just that from vot I see.”
The conversation turned to what Viktor could possibly do with all his new free time. Quidditch has taken up so much of his life that it wasn’t like he had many other hobbies. He never actually had a job in the sense of working hours. It was all Quidditch and it was good to him. “As heroic and exciting as that might be I can only imagine your mother would kill me if she knew I vos out fighting evil.” Viktor laughed unsure just how Elena would have felt, still the idea didn’t sound that bad. His daughter brought up Hermione and that Harry was missing, something he had been keeping tabs on best he could. He considered Harry a good friend as well as Hermione and Ron. He always felt a little awkward around Ron because of his past relationship with Hermione but considered it water under the bridge as that was sometime ago still they never talked as much as he had with Hermione or Harry. “It’s worth at least seeing her at some point, I still say Harry will just pop up someday soon. He’s done more surprising things in the past than just disappearing for a bit.”
“You do have a point, just don’t be too surprised vhen you get an anger howler from your mother vhen I tell her it vos your idea.” Viktor joked as he had his meal, he would never blame his taught for such a thing but he wasn’t above joking about it with her.

Irina smiled as her father explained how his expectations for her and her siblings were simply for them to be happy, as that was more important to them. She was a little disinclined to agree with that solely from the arguments she had had over the years with her mother, but she chose perhaps wisely not to bring that up. Elena could see that Irina was thrilled to be a Cursebreaker and loved her job, and had not brought up Quidditch once since she graduated and started the training program. It probably helped that Edrik and Daniel were both Arrows players, like Viktor before them, and Daniel was like a son to the Krum family. She dipped one of her Peri-salted fries into the peri-nayse and popped it into her mouth. “Woah, this is delicious,” she said, dipping a second one and handing it to her father. “You must try,” she commanded with a smile. Irina laughed at the idea of a howler from Elena for Viktor getting involved with the Auror program. “Well, it wouldn’t be the first time she’s sent me one,” she reasoned with a shrug of her shoulders. No that had been sixth year when Irina had finally gotten up the guts to firmly tell her mother that she wasn’t going to be trying out for the Quidditch team, she was going to be a Cursebreaker. She hadn’t had the nerve to say it to her face, so she had sent an owl, hoping the letter would soften the blow a little. How wrong she had been. “Well, if not the Aurors, what else? You could also be a good liaison to the German ministry of magic for Hermione - with all the happenings around the world, good people are hard to come by,” she told him, pausing to stuff her face with more french fries. “Plus, it’d be a bit less on the danger side,” she added after swallowing. @viktor

Irina, while eating her meal, explained how good one of them was. It being a fry covered in something that she was dipping into something else. She claimed he had to try it and Viktor was more than willing to steal some food from her plate as she handed one to him. He took it and gave it a try and it wasn’t half bad. “You’re right, it’s pretty good. You alvays did have good taste, vhen it came to somethings.” Viktor replied once done with the fry mostly just teasing his daughter for a moment.
“Trust me I know, I had to listen to her as she vrote them. She still does from time to time with Iliana.” Viktor laughed as he tried to tell his wife to ease up on their children at times, her always being the more serious parent. Viktor still wanted them to find purpose and have goals but had started to get more laid back as he got older. Elena had not though. He ate while his daughter explained more jobs he could take to fill his time. Working with the ministry as more of a liaison could be an option but he just didn’t see himself with any type of desk job. “I’m not sure, I’ve been moving around or always doing something all my life. If I start to slow down or just sit too much who knows vat’ll happen. I haven’t been playing Quidditch for a few years and I already feel like I’m getting flabby.” Part of it was a joke but he just couldn’t see him sitting in an office dealing with paper work. “I’ll figure something out, that or I’ll just keep fixing things around that house that aren’t broken yet.”

Irina scrunched her nose up at her father with his comment. “Are you saying I don't always have good taste?” she asked with faux indignance. Although she knew Viktor loved Daniel like another son, he had seen how broken up she had been when Dan had left to return home to Germany and Durmstrang. She knew he was protective of all of his daughters, and to be honest Irina had been a little nervous in breaking the news to her family that she and Dan had gotten back together this summer. Still, she knew how much he valued her happiness, like any father would. Not wanting to broach that subject just yet, Irina returned the focus on a potential future in the Ministry with her father. “You don’t really seem the type to just sit around the house all day doing nothing,” she agreed, popping another french fry into her mouth. “It must be weird for Mum to be at work while you’re at home doing all the household chores,” she added teasingly. She was curious as to what exactly he was fixing around the house though. “What projects are you making for yourself?” she asked him, somewhat suspicious he was turning her old bedroom into a training room or something similar. @viktor

Viktor smiled for a moment as Irina asked him what he had meant about her not having good taste. He had merely been teasing his daughter for a second even if Daniel did lose some points with him for hurting Irina like he had. The boy had his reasons, whatever they were for leaving but that didn’t change how Viktor had felt about the situation. “There vere time I questioned it but your tastes haven’t been too bad so far.” Viktor joked slightly with her in between bites. “I vill say if a certain you know who runs off again I’m villing to drag him back.” Still he was just kidding but he didn’t mind making the same threat to Daniel jokingly too if it kept his daughter from being hurt again.
Ask Irina described his day to day life Viktor just laughed for a moment while she brought up her mother. “Tell me about it, she didn’t like how I vas doing a number of things at first. Said she couldn’t find anything anymore in the house.” He continued to laugh for a bit longer after that, “at first I vas just reorganizing then after she said that I vas just doing some of it for fun.” It was a childish thing to do for a man such as himself at his age but boredom brought out that need to do something. He didn’t have quidditch anymore so the few laughs he could get around the house would have to do. Irina asked what other projects he had going on at home and he thought for a moment. “I was thinking how much vork it vould be to turn the back yard into a full fledge mini Quidditch field. Your mother won’t allow me to change any of the rooms around just yet.”

Irina laughed. “Dad, if Dan runs off again, you won’t have to,” she said, only half joking. If Dan were to run off again after everything well...Irina didn’t know if she had the strength to try and wrangle back someone who just wanted to get away from her. “But let’s not talk about that,” she said with a wave of her hand. She listened to him talk about how he had tried to make himself useful around the house with some reorganization, wondering how on earth her mother had allowed that. “Mhmm, and how long did it take for Mum to put everything back the way it was?” she said with a cheeky grin. “Have you ever thought about coaching Dad? You’d obviously be good at it, and let’s be honest, with the way the Arrows are playing this year they NEED a new coach,” she asked curiously. Even with their new captain and promising talent, the Arrows kept on losing, making Irina (and she was sure a good fifty percent of the Arrows fandom) wonder if it was a coaching issue, not a player issue. “It’d be quite interesting to watch you coach Ed and Dan,” she added with a chortle. @viktor wow this thread is over a year old, let's wrap it up XD

Viktor laughed for a moment as his daughter explained that if Daniel ran off again he wouldn’t have to chase him down. He wasn’t sure if that meant she would be the one to do it or she would be done with him. Either way he was hopefully that if Daniel did disappear again she wouldn’t be the mess she had been before. He couldn’t stand to see his daughter in such pain, especially over some boy. “That’s a relief I suppose.” Viktor commented and left it at that as Irina didn’t want to talk about that topic anymore. Which he didn’t blame her for that. Viktor laughed once more as Irina asked about her mother and how long it took to put things back. “Oh, not too long. Probably quicker than hov long it took me to reorganize things. She’s far better at organizing things than I ever vas.”
Irina offered the suggest that he should take up coaching for the arrows. Explaining that they could use it with how the games were going. “That’s the truth,” he said with a pause at the comment on how they were playing. “I’ve thought about it but I’m a little torn. I took a step avay from Quidditch vhen I retired to try to do something else. Yet Quidditch is the only thing I really have much interest in... Vell besides you kids.” It was hard to admit but Quidditch was the one thing he had always been obsessed with. He didn’t want to move on but he also didn’t want to be just about Quidditch all his life. Irina joked about wanting to see him be the coach of both his son and her boyfriend. “That vould be a sight to see.” Krum said with a laugh as they continued to enjoy their meal.
“Hov long do you have for lunch? I don’t need you to get in trouble with vork. Should I be getting you back soon?” Krum asked his daughter as their meal was almost over anyway and he didn’t need her getting in trouble on his part.
