As Joe started explaining a little about the classes that he was struggling in, Ashley listened carefully. She was a little surprised that her brother was being so open with her about this. Sure, this year the two had definitely grown closer and talked about deeper things than they ever had before, but this was different. He was telling her something that he felt insecure about, which she knew was a big deal to him. She scrunched her nose when he mentioned Divination. She had no intention of studying "fortunetelling" in any of its forms. Her eyebrows furrowed in sympathetic concern when he finished explaining, mentioning Alchemy. "I'm sorry, Joe," Ashley told him. She hated seeing her brother like this. It wasn't normal and she didn't appreciate it. She liked seeing him happy and confident. "So ... Kinsey is helping you then? With all those subjects?" She hoped he wouldn't see her questions as her pushing or being rude, Ashley was sincerely curious. She wanted to understand.
She smiled and nodded when he told her to sign up for easy classes next year. "Got it!" Ashley agreed. She wouldn't take super easy classes, but she also wasn't going to take the hard ones that she'd struggle in. Ashley liked doing well in school and looking good in front of her peers. That wouldn't change at all between now and next year. "If there's anything I can do to help, let me know," she told him with a small shrug. She didn't really know his curriculum or anything, but Ashley would do anything for her brother.
Her jaw dropped when he mentioned dropping out. "Joseph Fontaine, you better not even kid about that! Mom and Dad would kill you if they knew you were even considering dropping out!" She slapped his shoulder for effect before deciding to try another strategy too. "You can cook for me all you want, but you wouldn't leave me earlier than you have to, would you?" Ashley asked, giving him a pouty face and rocking from side to side. Joe wasn't serious, was he?

Joe felt a lot better than he did before entering the dungeons. He was happy that he and Ashley worked out their differences quickly this time. The older they got, the easier it got to communicate. It was nice to know that he had a good relationship with his sister, a closer one than he had with his brothers, which was somewhat surprising. Since they were kids it was like that. Joe nodded his head up and down when she asked about Kinsey helping her. "Yes, she's been helping me a lot." he told her honestly. "She's the girl that I met at the library that one day. I hit her nose with the door by accident. Shows why I should stay away from the library. Dangerous for all parties." Joe informed his sister. Since she was nosey, he knew she'd appreciate any information that he shared about other girls.
The blonds reaction to him joking about dropping out of school made it worth making the horrible joke. He definitely didn't mean it. He'd gone this far with his wizarding education, there was no dropping out now. "I'm just kidding." Joe snorted, more to reassure his sister. He didn't want her to tell mom as blackmail if she got made at him one day. When she asked about him leaving her before he had to, he shook his head from side to side. "Nope, I would never leave you before graduation. It's already going to be weird enough next year." Joe admitted to her, poking her in the side. @ashley

Ashley watched her brother, finally seeing a little bit of the strain that he was talking about. He seemed tired, though she couldn't really explain why. Maybe it had something to do with his posture right now, she didn't know. He confirmed that Kinsey was helping her a lot, after he met her at the library and hit her in the nose. Ashley smiled, liking the fact that Joe was telling her more about his friendship with the dark-haired ravenclaw girl. She smirked a little, "Sounds like you're pretty lucky she agreed to help out, since you did injure her the first time you met her." She was only teasing and felt sure that Joe would know that. She thought for a moment, "So ... d'you think that maybe we can agree to eat dinner together once a week or something? That way, I won't bother you while you're trying to stay caught up but we can still see one another?" Maybe if they did something like that she wouldn't feel like she never got to see her brother. It should stop her from doing anything drastic, like she'd done a short while ago.
Joe promised that he was just kidding and Ashley narrowed her eyes at him, trying to determine if he was just saying that to appease her or if he really meant it. She slowly nodded her head, deciding she believed him. "Good," she answered in a firm tone. She didn't want Joe to leave. She didn't even want him to leave next year, but there was nothing she could do about that. Ash smiled when he said he wouldn't leave her before graduation. She was nodding her agreement when Joe reached over and poked her. Ashley giggled, dancing away and swatting her brother's hand with her own. "Oooh, don't do that Joe!" She told him, despite knowing that sometimes he took that as a challenge. He normally took an inordinate amount of pleasure out of tickling her.

Joe could tell that Ashley was really trying, it made it easier for him to put forth the effort too. She asked him if he'd be okay with having dinner at least once a week and the thought was touching. He felt bad that he hadn't seen her much lately because of his own personal affairs. Joe nodded his head at Ashley, "Yes, Ash, I would like that. Lets try for twice a week." he told her, more because he knew that she would be pleased if he was nice to her. Joe loved Ashley, all he wanted was for her to be happy and for them to have a good relationship all around. Life was easier when they were friends. They could take over the world.
When Ashley swatted away his hand, he laughed, always loving whens he'd twitch around at his jabs. "Hey, believe it or not, I was actually on the way to the library if you wanted to tag along." Joe told her, figuring it would be a good idea to invite her along. She was complaining about never seeing him, here was her chance to hang out longer and spend more time together. He turned to the blonde with a smirk, "You're a closet dork, maybe you could show me the way." he jested, pulling her into his side for a side hug.

When Joe nodded, saying that he would like that, Ashley felt herself relax a little bit. Sure, she thought it was a good suggestion and that Joe would probably be able to give her one night, but she never knew. Maybe he liked to eat with specific people and didn't want to mix that up. Then he went on to say that they should try for twice a week and Ashley smiled up at him. "That sounds great!" She agreed, perhaps a little too enthusiastically, but Ashley didn't care. Joe liked the idea enough that he wanted to spend a little more time with her at dinner. She'd never argue with that idea. Ashley loved being around her brother. Their fight-turned-conversation actually went pretty well, Ashley decided when Joe laughed at her. Both of them were in a better mood, playing around with one another now. She nodded when he said she could join him, since he was on the way to the library. "That's probably a good idea," Ash teased, "since I don't think we want you to hurt another innocent Ravenclaw." She giggled at her own joke, rolling her eyes when Joe teased her right back, asking her to show him the way before giving her a hug. Ashley hugged him back, before pulling away and pointing straight ahead. "I think I can do that. This way to the library, Joe." She started walking, already laughing and feeling much better than she had even just a few minutes ago. --- the end --- @joseph
