Jace smiled and nodded at Yvonne's comment. It definitely wasn't the first time he'd heard that saying, but Jace wasn't entirely sure he agreed with it. To him, home was where the family was. He loved being with the people he cared about, no matter where they were. Maybe that had something to do with him moving around a bit when he was younger, but he couldn't really imagine being anywhere and being happy if his family wasn't there. Still, he wasn't about to make a big deal out of that at all, so he didn't say anything about it. She was laughing again, calling him insane and Jace grinned. "Well, now that's out of the way, you can start trying to get used to it," he teased a little, proud of himself for making her smile. She finally didn't seem super nervous, which he definitely considered a good thing. "It's not bad here at all," Jace agreed with her older sister. Then he decided to continue a little bit more. "It doesn't get too cold, and as an added bonus, the teachers know what they're talking about and most people are easy enough to get along with." At least, he got along well with the people that he talked to. Hopefully Yvonne would be able to feel the same. He let the conversation about no-maj's drop, since they both seemed to be on the same page there. To her next question, Jace shook his head, "No, they're not too far apart. We're almost there, in fact," he told her with a smile. "Just around the next corner," Jace pointed with a finger so she would know what he was talking about for sure. "Do you want me to see if she's inside for you? I could send her out if she is." If that was what Yvonne wanted, of course. yvonne rae de snaijer

The saying was one thing Yvonne simply grew up with. Back in Iowa was where the De Snaijer felt comfortable, but she knew with time she’d eventually warm up to Ilvermorny. Especially from the stories that her parents had repeated to her nights on end. Considering she didn’t have many friends, aside from her siblings, relatives and even her parents…It felt refreshing to have a new friend: Jace. If that was what she could call their relationship. ”I’ll try, but no promises.” Her nervousness was definitely slipping away now.
”Easy for you to say, you’ve been here for sometime now.” She giggled. ”I’ll hold you to that statement. If it gets any colder than sixty degrees, I’ll be mad.” She added. It was nice to know that Jace was somewhat having a good time in the school, leaving Yvonne feeling a little more better about upcoming classes and people she needed to speak to even if it meant she would be apart from Yvette. ”Who’s the nicest teacher? Or the best class?” She asked.
Slowly she nodded in understanding, continuing to follow next to him. ”I’ll probably need help returning to my own Common room…I don’t even remember.” She mumbled. Yvonne’s smile widened as he mentioned they just had to turn the next corner. But her smile slowly disappeared once he offered to look inside for her, or even bring Yvette out if he saw her. ”N-No…It’ll be fine. I just…Want to know she’s okay and smiling at least.” How selfless.

Jace rolled his eyes, putting a comical expression on her face when Yvonne said she wouldn't make any promises. "And why is that? It's not like you have to do anything except not avoid me," he teased, sensing that she was starting to relax and liking the fact. The first year was so nervous when he first ran into her that Jace's main goal was to make her feel more comfortable. Apparently his teasing worked, so he wasn't going to stop that any time soon. "I've been here for one year, not so long as most of the people in the school," Jace corrected her. Sure, he'd been here longer than she had, but that didn't mean it counted as "some time". He rolled his eyes again when she talked about the weather. "Keep in mind I'm from Alaska. It's hard to beat that kind of cold. The good thing is that you don't have to go outside too much when it is cold." His eyebrows scrunched together as he thought of how to answer her question. "Professor Johns, who teaches about Magical creatures, is pretty cool. I also like charms and astronomy, but it's all pretty good." Honestly, Jace didn't really have a problem with any of his professors or teachers. That wasn't to say that he did well in all his subjects, nut he liked them all well enough. He grinned when she mentioned being lost now. "I can help you there if you want!" Then he remembered her sister, "Or I'm sure your sister could help you," he added. He didn't want her to think he expected her to spend all her time with him. She got the nervous look on her face again and Jace watched the expressions on her face change curiously. "How are you going to know she's smiling if she's inside and doesn't know you're out here?" he asked. Jace wasn't trying to be a pain, but what was the point in coming all the way across the school if she didn't want to actually see her sister? yvonne rae de snaijer

PROMISES WERE A thing Yvonne found difficulty keeping. Friends or even maintaining some kind of relationship with others wasn’t her forte, especially with her abandonment issues around her sisters, even if it wasn’t their fault for it. At his question, Yvonne’s hand rose to scratch the back of her head. Avoiding people wasn’t exactly a method she lived by, but it seemed to happen…Rather naturally. ”I happen to be…A natural avoider. Never in sight.” Now she sounded like a spy. It was childish, but it sounded cool! Conversation with the Thunderbird seemed natural now, especially since he had opened her up just a bit, with smiles and even laughter.
”Still!” She objected, throwing her hands in the air, the holes from where her arms came out from of her robes showing, the silk material falling down against her arms. How she wished her Mom just…Bought her the correct size. ”One year still provides a lot of experience! You must know where everything is now…Right?” Yvonne smiled at his next comment, noting at how instead of facing the cold, being at home was where everything was at. How she would’ve had fun being raised in Alaska, the De Snaijer would never leave home. At the mention of classes and the sound of Charms lead to the Horned Serpent’s eyes lighting in interest. Her mother had once excelled in the class back in her own day and Yvonne hoped she would eventually do the same as the academic years passed. ”I’m excited for Charms.” She admitted.
”Thank you.” She breathed. Yvonne was sure she had never met someone so friendly as Jace, even her sister didn’t seem this nice or helpful. ”I’m sure Yvette doesn’t even know her way to the toilet, let alone my Common Room.” She murmured. From his question, the De Snaijer’s shoulders drew into a shrug. ”You’re my eyes and ears!” She retorted, remembering him of his earlier offer to head inside. ”You could tell me how she…Looks like. And maybe leave a message or something. I don’t want to bother her.”

Jace rolled his eyes, "Fine. You can avoid most people naturally, but I'm going to keep an eye out for you. Are you going to avoid me on purpose?" He might as well find out if she was, because that would make him searching for her harder. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, except this girl's attitude kind of felt like a challenge to Jace and now ... he wanted to make sure he found her and reached out to her at times. He didn't want to let her melt into the shadows. She argued, saying that his one year was at least some sort of experience and Jace shrugged a little. "Yeah, I do know where most things are ... not the upper classes that I'm not allowed to take yet though." He hesitated a second. "Do you want me to show you around sometime? Maybe help you find some of your classes?" If she hadn't taken them yet. Maybe that was a stupid idea. He smiled, hoping she wouldn't see his self-doubt. He smiled when she opened up a bit about Charms. "I like it a lot. It's probably my favorite class," Jace admitted with a nod. "I'm sure you'll get it."Yvonne was thanking him now and Jace waved it off. He didn't need her thanks, didn't want her to feel like he expected it. He just wanted to be helpful in whatever way possible. He snorted when she talked about her sister not knowing her way around. Then she explained what she wanted. "Okaaay ... so you want me to go in, find her and see how she's doing and then come back and let you know?" Jace didn't mind doing that, it just seemed a little strange to him. Why didn't she just want to talk to her sister? Wouldn't that be easier? Oh well, he didn't care that much. "Do you want me to deliver a message to her? I can," he offered. yvonne rae de snaijer

ON PURPOSE WASN’T exactly the words Yvonne would’ve used to describe whether or not she would disappear out of no where around Jace…But accidental wasn’t the right word either. Yvonne just done it out of habit, especially when she felt in a grumpy mood, to simply just avoid anyone and everyone. It was a new feeling she discovered as the school term continued, but her attitude to things simply worsened. A sort of abandonment issues arose, even if her sisters were somewhat right beside her. The things that channelled the sorting of Ilvermorny students housing had simply cursed her. That’s one way to look at it. With her lips pressing together as she tried to find an answer to defend herself, the De Snaijer eventually gave up and sent a shrug his way. ”Not on purpose. At least, if I’m not annoyed or anything.”
Speaking to people while in a mood was one thing that just…worsened her mood. It was a time when she wanted to be alone, even if she was wandering the halls she barely knew. At his offer, Yvonne’s eyes lit up. It would be nice to have some kind of advantage, places to go to avoid others, especially as a young first year, her whole appearance screamed for assistance. ”I’d like that.” She knew the ways to head towards for most of her classes, but in the upcoming weeks she was taking something new. ”Especially with this…New Class…Defence Against the Dark Arts?” I’ve never been to where it is before.”
At his next statement, Yvonne forced a small smile. He must have been wondering why she asked for a strange request, but it was simply because…She didn’t want to speak to Yvette face-to-face. ”Exactly that.” Yvonne nodded. Since their housing, the elder De Snaijer was somewhat avoiding her younger twin, in an attempt to give her a life without relying on her sisters. To actually make friends of her own. ”Just a hi would be fine.” She shrugged. Hopefully Yvonne would be out of eye’s view by the time Jace told her. ”Could you make it seem like I’ve already left? So she won’t…Come out?”

She hesitated to answer and Jace waited, wondering if he'd struck a nerve. He didn't mean to make her feel uncomfortable or anything and was slightly worried that he had. Eventually she answered, saying she wouldn't hide from him on purpose unless she was annoyed. Jace shot her a winning smile, "Then I'll just do my best to not annoy you," he teased, trying to lighten the mood once again. Jace nodded, glad that she seemed excited at his offer. "No problem, I'm more than willing to help you out with that," he promised. "Do you want to meet tomorrow after classes and I can show you around a bit?" That gave her time if she needed it, but it also showed he was willing to do what he offered and that he wouldn't forget, as long as she took him up on his offer. Her request was definitely an odd one. Jace didn't understand why she didn't want to actually talk to her sister after making all this effort to find her common room, but who was he to judge. He smiled and nodded. "Sure, I can do that. Say I ran into you in the halls and when you found out we were in the same house, you asked me to say hi for you. That work?" He wanted to make sure he didn't do anything that would upset his new friend. yvonne rae de snaijer

HESITATION WASN’T SOMETHING Yvonne usually followed the lines of. She was the second confident amongst her family, her sister had taken that role and paved the way for her. Forcing a smile upon her lips, the De Snaijer let out a soft sigh. She felt thankful that Jace wasn’t exactly pushy, only around to make her comfortable, and she barely knew the Thunderbird for more than an hour. ”Thank you.” She murmured, trying to widen her smile to show her appreciation.
A tour was exactly what Yvonne needed, especially from a student who had spent a year or so already here. The official one had been a drag, one she completely missed out on especially as she spent the majority of her time whispering by Brody’s side. The need to make friends wasn’t exactly high but the brunette knew she needed a friend or two. ”Sure...Where will I be able to find you?” She asked, considering they were in different houses and even different years. Hopefully Ilvermorny was small enough so the two would pass by one another often.
Thinning her lips, Yvonne hummed in a response, moving her head in time with it. It was odd, the weird feeling stirring in her stomach, to ensure that she didn’t see her sister, too worried her sister would worry that she wasn’t settling in correctly. Yvette was always the nicer twin between them, found it easier to speak and get along with people. Yvonne was simply the polar opposite. With her hands clasped together behind her back, she took a couple of steps backwards, ready to run in the opposite direction if Yvette had any plans to come outside of the common room.
@jace & sorry for the wait!

She was so quiet an hesitant, thanking him for something he hadn’t even done yet. It made Jace glad that he found her and that he could help somehow. He might not be the nicest guy (since he liked to tease and joke around a lot), but when he found someone who needed help, Jace was the kind of guy who wanted to be right there in the middle of it. “No problem,” he told her with an easy smile. Maybe after some time he’d be able to help get Yvonne out of her shell or something. She seemed to like the idea of a tour though, which Jace was glad of. He smiled at her. “It depends on when you want the tour. If you want to do it now, just give me a bit. I’ll go inside, find your sister and then we can start. Apart from that …” he hesitated as he thought for a moment, “You can almost always find me outside or in the Great Hall during meals. Or you can owl me and we can set it up that way. Really, I’m not normally busy outside of classes.” He was more than happy to show her around, assuming she’d let him. And it looked like she would, which made Jace more excited that he was showing. He didn’t want to freak her out. yvonne rae de snaijer (wanna end it?)

IT WAS NICE, HAVING SOMEONE show an inch of kindness when you barely deserved it. Giving a form of kindness to a stranger, a mean one, especially someone like Yvonne. Everything about her soured the longer she stayed in Ilvermorny and now with winter passing and a new term approaching, where was the need to stay happy? The smile that rested on Jace’s face as he responded to her was a kind one, filled with genuine warmth but Yvonne chose to somewhat ignore it, eyes drifting away, shifting to the floor before moving again. They were constantly on the move. At the next mention of the tour, the De Snaijer thought about it for a while. She had socialised just a little more than what she would have liked for one day, so she shook her head instead.
”How about a rain check? Next time.” As he said, he could always be found in the Great Halls anyway. At that information, the Horned Serpent girl nodded. ”Thanks Jace. I really…” She paused, looking up at him. ”I really appreciate it. Even for this as well.” Even though he hadn’t done it yet. Yvonne then stood with a small but not necessarily forced smile, watching at he escaped into the common room, diving in to find her sister, but by the time he came back out to update her, Yvonne ensured she would be gone. She didn’t trust it, knowing Yvette would still come outside, curious to see if Yvonne was actually there even if said otherwise and the theory proved to be right.
From the corner Yvonne stuck her head out from, she watched as her younger twin looked around momentarily before both Jace and Yvette headed back inside the common room, with the door sealing closed behind them shortly after. The De Snaijer drew a soft sigh, turning in the direction she had come from with Jace and while her plan of the day was a little rocky, she had a new friend at the end of it.
- END
@jace & woo! we need an up-to-date thread of these beans soon!
