FOR ONCE NATE WASN'T LYING WHEN HE SHOOK his head. "Nah," He admitted. He wasn't disappointed, really. Nate found he didn't mind being in Ashley's company. It beat having to put on a face, having to try to flatter and charm whoever was put with him to try and pull later. Sometimes, Nate wasn't in the mood. And given where they'd been sent, he wasn't feeling very romantic either. "Could've been worse." And he truly believed that.
They took the sloping ramp out of the observation tunnel and Nate didn't look back. He wasn't really claustrophobic, but the tunnel had reminded him of the orphanage. Dark and dingy. It smelled similar as well. Like damp and sharp bleach. "It reminded me of somewhere I used to live," Nate grumbled, grabbing the metal railing in front of him as he turned his face to the heady smell of silt and open water. It beat the stale smell from below decks.
"We'll see better from here!" He called back to her, and turned his head just in time to feel a great spray of water on his face as something sailed out of the water in a great arch. He held his breath as a silvery mane followed, and a flicking tail. The kelpie nosedived back in to the water and Nate's upper body followed over the railing, leaning across to catch a glimpse as its tail smacked the surface before disappearing under. The whole front of his shirt was soaked, dropping from his hair and chin, but he didn't notice right away. His mouth opened in a peal of genuine, astonished laughter.

Ashley smiled, nodding when he said he wasn't disappointed. She rolled her eyes when he continued, saying it could have been worse, but at the same time she understood him. It was kind of nice to get to know someone without the pressure of having to flirt or like them. It didn't hurt that she liked someone else, but she was also enjoying talking with Nate, now that they weren't really arguing with one another. He walked quickly out of the tunnel, saying it reminded him of somewhere he used to live. He didn't seem happy about that, so Ashley decided it would probably not be best to tease him about it or make him feel like he had to talk about it. She'd much rather have a positive conversation. The next thing she knew, she was trying to spot the creature through the murky water. Nate called that it was better from above and she ran to catch up with him, staring when the creature jumped out of a water for a moment. Her eyes widened as she stared. "Woah." Eli would love this. Part of her wished he was here, though that would defeat the purpose. The kelpie went back into the water and Ashley laughed in amazement. "Do you think it'll come back?" she asked, hoping it would. She wanted to see more of this. Nathaniel David Forrester

LOOKING OVER AT ASHLEY, NATE WAS DEEPLY disappointed to discover that he'd bore the brunt of the splash. She looked relatively dry, whereas his own shirt was clinging to his front uncomfortably. He'd stolen it as well, and the tag on it hadn't been shit. He leaned towards her abruptly and shook out his hair, spraying droplets all over her and the soaked ground below them. He barked a fiendish laugh and leaned back, hair flattened but no longer dripping.
"Dunno," He said in answer to her previous question, as if nothing at all had transpired. "Think it likes to show off." But he felt light headed with contentment. He didn't feel tense or observed or under pressure. It wasn't often that Nate felt an absence of all of these things. He was used to being tense, to feeling as if he had to perform for some unknown audience with sky high expectations. He didn't really care of Ashley didn't like him, and he thought maybe she felt the same way. It was oddly freeing. This was, perhaps, one of the better 'dates' Nate had ever been on.
@ashley do you want to maybe end this soon? feel like we've got a lot of good stuff out of it!

Ashley was too busy looking at the water to notice when Nathaniel looked over at her. Then suddenly water was falling on her. She squealed a little and jumped back, spinning to look at her date, who was shaking his wet hair at her. Ashley's jaw dropped, though she couldn't help but smile a little as she reached over and pushed him away. "Gross! Keep your hair water to yourself," she quipped, scrunching her nose, even though she wasn't angry at him at all. Surprisingly, she wasn't even annoyed. Huh. She rolled her eyes when he answered her question like nothing happened. "That makes sense ... maybe it will come back then." Ash turned her attention back to the water, trying to figure out if the creature really would come back. She wanted to be able to describe in to Eli if he asked her about it when she saw him the next time. She wasn't sure if he would care, maybe he'd already seen Kelpies before. Ash saw something in the water and then gasped, reaching over and slapping Nathaniel's arm lightly several times. "Oh look! There it is!" The creature was speeding around under the water and Ashley grinned as she looked at it, feeling much more relaxed with her date than she ever thought she would. Maybe he wasn't as rude as she'd originally thought. Nathaniel David Forrester(Maybe one more each? Hehe I was trying to end it but that didn't happen ... I'm excited to see how they interact in Hogwarts after this though)

AS NATE'S ATTENTION WAS BEGINNING TO WANE he received a sharp slap on his arm. Ash was trying to get his attention and he slicked back his hair, drawn back towards the edge as the strange creature broached the surface once again. He'd been right. It definitely did like to show off. It swam along the surface, its tail lashing so that Nate leaned back a little, unwilling to get fully soaked twice in a row. He nudged Ashley forward jokingly.
"Go on then," He teased her, but not as forcefully as he might have before. "Looks like it wants you to go for a swim." And his tongue was pressed between his teeth as he laughed. They continued like that for a while, the kelpie taking different shapes as it performed for them until eventually the sky began to darken and the guide came back to take them to the front. Nate had joined the dating opportunity because he'd thought it'd be a laugh. He'd thought it'd have been an even bigger one when he'd seen Ashley. But when they parted ways at the door, Nate didn't say anything rude. He simply nodded with a small, but genuine smile. "See you around." He'd tutted, and then it was over.

Surprisingly to Ashley, the rest of the date went fairly well. Nathaniel was a tease, but now that she felt like she knew him a bit better, Ashley didn't feel like she had to be offended by it. He wasn't as big of a jerk as she'd originally thought, which was a relief since they were in the same house. The pair watched the kelpie for a while. Actually, Ashley lost track of the time and she didn't mind that at all. She nodded and smiled back at him. "See you," she echoed before walking away. As far as blind dates went, that one definitely wasn't as bad as it could have been. Nathaniel David Forrester
