He laughed, instantly regretting admitting that he was better at skating than he had originally let on. “Not much,” he admitted, and that was true. “Just basic spins and jumps.” he wasn’t talented by any means, and there would be no time in his life where he would be competing for any sort of competition with it, it was simply a distraction when on Holiday from his perfect Pureblood family and his perfect pureblood life. “Trust me, if you saw it you’d just laugh. I’d make a fool of myself.” he promised her. She asked about going on a carriage ride next and Riley nodded. “That sounds great, we can take a little rest after skating.” It was quite hard on the legs and would cause the ankles to be sore after a while. He lead her over there and paid the fee for the carriage. The worker brought one around and Riley got up first, extending his hand to help her in. Once they were in and seated, he tucked the blanket around him and laid it on her lap so she could tuck herself in as the horse started off down the lane.

Riley said that he couldn't do many tricks, explaining that he could do spins and jumps. She laughed, shaking her head at him. "Basic spins and jumps? And there I was, just happy that you only let me fall down once." Kinsey wasn't upset that he hadn't told her before, though she would have loved to see him do his tricks. It was something she couldn't quite imagine and she was curious. She rolled her eyes, "I highly doubt I would have laughed. I bet you didn't mention it because you didn't want me to be in awe of you for the rest of the day," she nudged him with her elbow. if she ever got the chance to be around Riley with an ice skating rink nearby, she was definitely going to try and convince him to show her what he could do. She was curious!
When he mentioned that the carriage ride would be a good rest after skating, Kinsey nodded. She followed him over to the carriages. He paid, which she wasn't really surprised for. She had a feeling that he wanted to pay for things today and she wasn't going to fight him on it. He helped her climb into the carriage and Kinsey tucked the blanket around her, jumping slightly and grabbing his arm when the horse started moving and the carriage jolted. "Sorry," she said with a small chuckle. She'd been distracted tucking the blanket it. "So ... what should we talk about now?" she asked, smiling over at him.

“Oh yes, that’s it.” he said with a laugh. While she might have been impressed with some of the things he could do, today wasn’t about impressing her, today was simply about spending time with her. And he was enjoying that while he still could. Once they were tucked into the carriage and on the move, she jumped at the sharp movement of the horse. He laughed a little when she clung onto his arm, “What now? Don’t tell me you’re afraid of horses.” he teased. She asked what he wanted to talk about as their horse fell into a gentle stride and he shrugged. “I don’t know. Um, have you given any thought to what you might want to do after graduation?” he asked her.

Riley laughed at her teasing, which was exactly what Kinsey wanted. She wanted him to be laughing and happy and enjoying their time together, more than anything else. She also wanted to know that she was the one making him laugh, which she was. Spending time with him like this was so nice. He teased her, still laughing when she grabbed him at the sharp movement of the carriage. "No!" she exclaimed enthusiastically. "I just wasn't expecting it to start moving that fast. It just took me by surprise." She let him go, sitting up straight as she glanced around. It was the same old Hogsmeade, though she was enjoying the fact that the two of them were sitting now. At his question, Kinsey turned to face Riley again. "Kind of? I was thinking I would like to do something in a bookstore or a library or something ... or maybe working in a museum. I'm not entirely sure, so I've been thinking about it. You?" Of course, she thought he would want to do something with his ability, she just wasn't quite sure what.

Riley listened as she explained that she might want to do when she graduated. He liked all of those ideas that she listed, she wanted to do something where she wouldn’t have to interact with a lot of people, which made sense given her abilities. He didn’t want her to do anything that would make her uncomfortable or exhaust herself, he cared about her and wanted her to do well in the future. “Those sound like fine ideas.” he nodded. When she turned the question back on him, he shrugged. “I’m still on the healer path.” he told her. It was nothing surprising. He was going to get all of his healer training and credentials done early and then would decide if she still wanted to go into business for himself. Maybe he’d be happy to just stay at the hospital.

It was nice that Riley didn't ask her to explain why she wanted to work in a library or a museum. He knew her well enough that he probably figured out on his own that she wanted something low key. Riley knew her better than anyone, except maybe Toby. "Thanks." Kinsey gave a soft laugh. "It won't be anything glamorous, but I'll get to keep on learning, which will be nice." Kinsey loved learning new things, which was another reason why both those jobs appealed to her. She nodded when he said he wanted to continue with the healer idea. Now that he mentioned it, she did remember that that was his original plan. At least his engagement wasn't messing with what he wanted to do with his life. The only problem was that she didn't know what to talk about now. She looked around them for a moment. "So ... what is your favorite thing about winter?" Kinsey asked. It was a fluffy question, but she didn't really know him last winter so it was something she didn't really know.

Riley valued what she said and loved her explanation of why she wanted to work where she had suggested. She wanted to continue to learn. That was so admirable. He loved learning and definitely didn’t think that learning ended once he graduated, or that having a diploma meant that he would know everything there was to know. Leaning was a lifelong effort. She didn’t ask anything more about his plan, his plan had remained the same for a while now and he was pretty stuck on it. It was the only thing that really made sense for him. She asked what his favorite thing about Winter was and he had to think about it for a second. “Honestly, my favorite thing about winter is the way people act during it.” he wasn’t sure if it made sense, or would make him sound like a creep or a stalker, but he loved it. “Like it’s cool to observe their changes in attitude when it snows and gets colder, people are stuck inside and i can almost see their minds working harder to entertain themselves.” he said. Maybe he was weird.

The conversation between Kinsey and Riley was starting to dwindle, which she definitely did not want. She wanted to talk to Riley, learn more about him or say something to make him smile. Anything that would make this time together really memorable. Which was why she asked a random question. It wasn't the best, just asking about the season and what he liked about it, but Riley's answer still made her smile. She lifted an eyebrow when he said that his favorite thing was the way people behaved. She didn't ask him to clarify though, he did that on his own. She laughed when he was done. "Does everyone react like that, or do you just focus on the super active people that don't know what to do when there's nothing but snow outside?" she teased. She liked hearing all that he learned from watching people. It was interesting to her. "Do you have to do more to entertain yourself when you can't go outside, or do you just watch people any time you're about to get bored?" Kinsey asked curiously. She couldn't help but wonder if Riley ever got tired of watching people too. Did he ever want to do something else?

Kinsey asked an interesting question but Riley found himself able to answer before his mind even had any time to give it any thought. “I think everyone acts like that to an extent. Even just watching people avoid taking certain roots to class because it requires them to cross through the courtyard. Or watching them run to the green houses before they get too cold or wet.” he suggested, hoping that he was making any sense. “Of course there are people who spend more time inside anyway, but I think even they react a little bit from now having their spaces bombarded with people who are usually outside.” he added. She asked if he had anything to do when he was bored and stuck inside and he shrugged. “Sure, I can read anywhere.” he admitted. He probably spent about equal amounts of time inside and outside if he really thought about it. Maybe he spent more time inside recently as there were more places to hide inside than there were outside. “What about you, what’s your favorite thing about Winter?” he returned her question.

Riley answered almost immediately and Kinsey smiled as she listened to him explain. What he was saying definitely made sense. She knew she did things differently in the winter, but it was generally more taking secret passageways and unused routes so she wouldn't run into Dom than anything else. It was harder to avoid him in the winter than any other time. "I get that," she answered when it seemed like he'd finished explaining. When she asked if he liked to do something other than watch people, Rilely suggested that he liked to read. That wasn't a surprise to her at all. "I like reading too," she agreed easily, looking around at the view as the carriage continued a long. She scooted a tiny bit closer to Riley when a harsh wind came. At his question, Kinsey shrugged, "Curl up in a good blanket and read?" She laughed, "No, I like doing things. I want to try getting in a snowball fight this year, since I'm not struggling as much being around people. Normally I just do things on my own though." Kinsey in the winter actually wasn't too different from Kinsey in the summer.

Kinsey told him that she liked to read too and of course he had already known that. He had known that since they started dating, no, since they had become friends at all. She also explained that she wanted to try getting into a snowball fight this year, the thought of which brought a smirk to his lips. “Ha. let me know if you do. I’ll come watch.” he teased in response.
They rounded the corner to come back into the village and out of the wilderness nearby and upon them doing so, the ground shook and out of the clouds came a gang of dragons. Instinctively, Riley stood in the wagon, which was quickly trotting to the town, tucked his arm around the woman sitting next to him, lifting her to her feet and pushed her out of the moving vehicle, jumping out with her, not letting go as they fell hard to the ground and the carriage continued into the village and into the center of the action a few hundred feet away along the path cloaked in trees.

Kinsey let her jaw dropped as she stared at Riley. "You'd just watch? You wouldn't join in and help me?" She demanded. Of course, she was teasing, but at the same time she was kind of serious. Would he really rather watch than play? Wait ... Riley would watch people playing a game like that, he'd like seeing the different reactions between people. Okay,so maybe it made sense. That didn't meant she had to just accept it though.
She stared, eyes wide when they turned the corner to see the dragons. What were dragons doing in Hogsmeade? "Riley?" she breathed, but the next thing she knew his arm was around her and she was standing, being pushed out of the carriage. Kinsey could hardly understand it, much less what was going on around her. Her knees crumpled when she hit the ground, but she quickly straightened back up. "What do we do?" she asked, watching the carriage move quickly into the village. She automatically took a few steps closer to the buildings. They couldn't just watch this, could they?

Riley started, wide eyed at the scene playing out in front of him. Surely this couldn’t have been going on long, they would likely have heard them if it had, they hadn’t been too far away for the last little while on the carriage. Kinsey stood back up and he helped her to her feet. She had a good point, what were they to do? Riley wanted to run, he wanted to pull Kinsey in the opposite direction and hide in the trees in the forest around the path to the village. They could wait it out, surely. Riley was alright at dueling magic, but he would never want to go up against a dragon, and he would never put Kinsey in that situation, not even if she was the best dueler in the world. He was torn between wanting to take care of her, and wanting to look like a hero. But in the end, she always won. He’d do anything for her. He was marrying someone else for her, he would fight a dragon for her, but he didn’t really want to. “Let’s go back this way.” he told her, taking her arm and starting to pull her back away from the village.

Kinsey shot a weak smile at Riley when he helped her to her feet. He was being a gentleman, like he always was. She looked back to the village, now hearing the screams of people inside. Her heart started to pound. Were they just going to stand here? Then, a realization struck her. Penelope was in there, somewhere. She saw her younger sister when she and Riley left the ice rink. Kinsey couldn't just walk away and hide, knowing that her sister was in danger somewhere. She was frozen, her mind racing as she tried to decide what she was going to do. Then Riley took her arm and started pulling her away from Hogsmeade. Kinsey turned to him with wide eyes, shaking her head instantly as she planted her feet. "I can't. Penelope's in there, Riley. I ... I need to make sure she's okay." She took a step closer, not wanting to have to pull away from him. "Please come with me," Kinsey asked. She knew that there likely wasn't much she and Riley could do on their own against dragons, but she didn't want to go on her own. Besides, if she left him, she'd worry about him too, irrational as that may be.

Kinsey wanted to go into the village?! Riley had every thought not to give her the option, but he didn’t want to be like that with her. He wasn’t his father, who controlled his mother in everything that she did, physically and mentally. While he felt his chest build up with anger and annoyance at her willingness to risk herself, the only being in the world that he loved, he swallowed it down. Penelope was okay, he thought, she had to be, they had likely got everyone into some sort of shelter, right? But he knew there was no use trying to convince her. “Okay.” he gave in, his voice a little harsher than usual. “Stay close then.” he’d never let himself live it down it anything happened to her.
