Riley held her as they sat there in the shop, still annoyed and still frustrated, but seeing it slowly fade from him as he looked at her. Maybe he was being too dramatic. Maybe he was being too hard on her. He would have done the same thing that she did when she thought that she needed to save her sister, if he thought that he needed to save her. But he was still annoyed. She was hurt and she could have gotten hurt even worse, they had come face to face with a dragon in the midst of a group attack. How this was even happening, he had no idea. But it was. She apologized to him, saying that he was right and that they should have stayed away from the village. He knew he was right. No good can come from rushing into a dragon fight with a wand and the knowledge of a 7th year with no real battle training. “It’s okay. It’s over now.” he said softly, lying, but wanting her to feel comforted and supported. He didn’t want to go in for a lecture while she was sitting her broken.

Having Riley's arms around her was about all that was keeping Kinsey from getting emotional in this moment. She could almost feel his irritation at her (though not because of her gift, it was more because she knew him so well), and a part of her just wanted to escape. She hated it when Riley was upset at her. It didn't happen often, but it was terrible. When she apologized, he lied, saying it was okay. She sensed the lie, but at the same time he knew that he was saying it to try and help. She shook her head against him, nuzzling her head into his chest and cringing as she heard the roar of dragons outside. It wasn't okay. She'd put them both in danger and gotten herself injured, but there really wasn't anything she could do about it now. This wasn't the way she wanted her day with Riley to end, but that's what happened.
After the attack was over, mediwizards roamed the village, helping all the injured people they could find. It wasn't long before they found Kinsey and Riley. One named Rory set her bone and gave her a potion to complete the healing process. He asked Riley to help her get back home (he had no way of knowing she was staying at the school) and to bed, since the potion was known to make one sleepy. The mediwizard was right. At first, Kinsey and Riley walked side by side, but before long she was leaning on him heavily, her eyelids drooping before they even reached the edge of the village. She barely noticed when they stopped and she was no longer walking anymore.

Riley was physically there for the rest of the afternoon, but mentally, he was somewhere else. He wasn’t sure where, but the whole thing was blur. A healer came over and helped Kinsey, giving her a potion and telling Riley that it would make her sleepy. He charged Riley with getting her back home safely and Riley nodded, of course he would. He would never leave Kinsey on her own. Well, at least not with her like this. So they walked along for a few moment until he saw the effects of the potion setting in. He should have just thought about this in the first place. Once again, he swooped her up in his arms, his biceps sore and tired from carrying her earlier, but he fought through it and got her to the castle.
He wasn’t sure what to do with her at first, since he couldn’t take her up to her own dorm and he didn’t want to just dump her in the common room, even if there were only a handful of Ravenclaws who stayed. So he carried her up to their dorm, his roommate, Jack, an American who stayed also, wasn’t there currently, so Riley didn’t have to explain himself right away. He set Kinsey down on his own bed to rest before he sat down on another bed in the dorm, surely his roommate would understand given the circumstances. Soon after, Riley fell asleep.
