Hugo was biting his bottom lip as he watched the dragon, hoping that nothing would happen. Then, when it seemed like they were almost safe, the dragon swooped down and blew fire. To Hugo's surprise, he was tugged to the side. He glanced over, a little surprised to see that Lusie was the one who pulled him out of the way. She saved him! He followed her easily around the corner of the building, wrapping his arms around her as she clung to him. In any other situation he would have teased her, but this was far too serious for that. He patted her gently on the back. "It's okay Lusie. We're okay. We'll be fine," he muttered softly, taking a few steps away from the corner of the building, where it was starting to heat up because of the fire still blowing. Wow. How long could a dragon breathe out fire. He pulled back a little to look at her. "You're okay, right? Thanks for that back there," he commented, still waiting for the fire to stop so they could continue on with another plan. They were so close!

He instantly began to comfort her and she appreciated his efforts. She had to admit, she did feel a little better in his arms, which was odd, she didn’t even clue in to how close they were until he pulled away a little bit and looked at her. There was no lack of heartbeat in that moment, once again it was pounding in her ears. “Yeah I’m fine.” she insisted, she was, sure was pretty sure. She wasn’t feeling pain anywhere on her body, but, she hadn’t felt pain when she was cut by the plant in class either until a while after it happened. “Of course.” she said when he thanked her, she wasn’t sure what had possessed her and gave her the courage to pull him away, but she didn’t want either of them to get hurt so she just did what she felt she needed to do. “What do we do?” she asked, watching the fire still stream past them. She was still holding onto him.

Lusie didn't seem to be annoyed or bothered by Hugo holding her, which was nice. He was trying to help her calm down and relax a bit. This whole ordeal with the dragons was a lot for him to take in, he couldn't imagine how much harder it was for her. She was cute and fun, but didn't seem to be used to this sort of thing, not that many people were. Who- other than people who worked with dragons- could possibly be used to an attack? She said that she was fine and Hugo nodded even though he wasn't entirely certain if she was trying to be brave or not. He'd have to watch her more closely when they started moving again. He'd feel bad if she got hurt with him and he didn't even notice.
The dragon's fire breath was still roaring past the edge of the building. How long could they do that for? Wouldn't he need to breathe in sometime soon. Hugo found himself a little entranced as he watched the fire, waiting for something to change. Then she asked what they should do. Hugo looked down at her, not pulling away, but trying to get a read on her expression. "I think we have a few choices. We can try to find a new way to get to the middle of town, we can try to get inside one of these buildings and hide or we can wait for this dragon to get bored and go away and try to go the same way we were before. What do you think, Lusie?" He didn't want her to feel forced to act in any specific way. Letting her choose would also let him see her state of mind, too.

Lusie listened as the Gryffindor boy explained their two options. While every part of her just wanted to get somewhere safe, she wasn’t sure how well hiding in a building made of wood would be, at least not with a charm over it, and she was sure that this part of the village had still been left untouched by those trying to help in the center of town, surely there would be some sort of secure refuge there. “We should keep going.” she decided, not speaking very loudly, but she was very confident in her decision. She wanted to get away from this. “Maybe we can sneak around the back.” she suggested.

Hugo was a little surprised when Lusie said that they should keep on going. He already knew she was tough but he really expected her to want to stop moving around. They kept running into dragons and things weren't getting better the further they went into town. Sure, the two of them had been able to keep one another safe, but that didn't necessarily make it a good situation. He smiled and nodded at her, taking a deep breath to prepare himself to go. Then she suggested they go around the back of the building and he nodded again. "Sounds like a good plan. Stay close again. We're pretty close to the middle of town, so I think we can make it, but I have no idea how many dragons are around." He reached over and grabbed her hand before tugging her around the corner of the building.
After a few minutes of sneaking around, the two found themselves rounding the corner of a building and looking at the middle of town, which seemed to be a battle zone between dragons and wizards. "Where do you want to go now?" he asked Lusie, wanting to be there for her.

Finally, they made it to the center of town and he asked where she wanted to go while they looked at the scene in front of them. There were several people still standing around, armed with wands and were casting shielding charms and were ushering people who were still seeking shelter inside of buildings where they could, hopefully, stay safe while the adults and those stronger, could figure the situation out. “There.” she pointed when he asked. She wanted to go into one of the shops where people were able to stay sheltered and out of the way of the attacking beasts. “If that’s okay… I shouldn’t be out here. I’m more of a harm than a help in this situation…” if he wanted to stay out and help fight and clean up, he could, but she wanted to get as far away from the dragons as possible.

Hugo couldn't help but feel relieved when he and Lusie made it to the center of town without really getting injured. He'd worried about her getting hurt while he was with her, not because he didn't want to get into trouble or anything, but because he didn't want to see a friend hurt. Or anyone hurt. There'd been too much of that the past few years and he didn't want to see any more if he could help it. He nodded when she pointed to a building where she wanted to go. Hugo smiled, "Of course that's okay. I'll go over there with you." He led the way over to the building, glad that he didn't feel frantic anymore. They were kind of safe now. He held the door to the building open for her. "Thanks for helping me back there. We make a good team, don't we Lusie?" Hugo smiled down at her, glancing over his shoulder when he heard a scream. "I ... I'm going to go and help. You stay safe, okay. See you around!" Hugo waved at her before jogging over and asking someone where he should go to help. He was glad to be a part of this.

Lusie had never felt relief quite like she did when she finally made it to a place where she knew that she was safe. The building was packed with students and several staff members and professors were inside with their wands, likely casting shielding charms around the place to keep the students safe. It was part of their job to keep the students safe, wasn’t it? He thanked her as they got to the building, for helping him. She hadn’t felt like she had done anything at all, but she supposed she had pulled him away at one point. “Yeah, we do.” she agreed, reaching out and giving his arm a friendly squeeze. “Thank you, Hugo.” she smiled up to the older student... to the very attractive, older student. She blinked that thought away. Weird. There was another scream and he insisted that he was going to go help. He bid her farewell and ran off again, she watched him go for a second before a professor saw her standing out there and came and ushered her inside where she stayed until the attack ended.
