"My Dad’s too dumb to enjoy anything in that store," Bryelle claimed, at which Sami snickered in response. She had never thought of her own parents as geniuses, exactly, considering for how long she had been doing things behind their backs, but she knew that they weren't completely stupid, either. To hear Bryelle say outright that her father was dumb was amusing, mostly because Sami wouldn't have said the same of hers while sober.
It was apparent that Bryelle's comments were genuinely about her father's intelligence—or lack thereof—when she added that she would find it "interesting" to get him something that he didn't understand. Sami had never had a doubt that her parents weren't intelligent, capable people; she was just clever enough to cover herself before she got into trouble.
"So Samira," Bryelle cut in as they walked in the direction of the shop. "Any partners or ex-partners I should keep an eye out for in Hogwarts? Cute people in general?"
Great. Sami stopped short of rolling her eyes. Bryelle hadn't forgotten about Nefe, and she apparently had no intention of letting her cousin slip away from the conversation. The younger girl had mentioned Hogwarts, at least, and Samira was thankful that she could use that detail to her advantage; Nefe had been in the year above her, which meant that the Hogwarts angle was no longer applicable. "Er, Sav Macmillan's fit?" she supposed, shrugging as she continued walking. "Or, erm, that Canadian bloke… Steve."
