"Oh, Merlin's beard!" Roxanne swore loudly as she wiped off her shirt, which was now covered in glitter. With an irritated wave of her wand the sparkles disappeared from the ground and her clothing, and were promptly swept into the trash can across the room. "Damn you, daddy," she muttered as she angrily chucked the fake wand, probably custom made by George Weasley to look exactly like hers, across the room. She'd picked it up without looking and the fatter end that had been pointed towards her suddenly blew out and caused glitter to explode all over her. She had her real wand in her hand now, thankfully. The shop was not yet open yet, and the young Weasley girl bustled about, getting everything ready before it was due to welcome customers. She fed the pygmy puffs, straightened some of the products and returned those that were misplaced to their rightful spots, and took a deep breath. Something was missing. What hadn't she done? Oh, yes, eat breakfast. It was something that her mother chided her about constantly, skipping over the most important meal of the day. "Do you know how essential eating a good breakfast is?" Angelina had said countless times, while shoving toast into her daughter's empty hands. "As an athlete--" "I'm not an athlete," Roxanne had cut in, smiling, and Angelina had rolled her eyes but continued her lecture for over fifteen minutes, until Roxanne felt actual tears down her eyes because she was so tired from having to stand and listen to her drone on and on-- And now she ate breakfast everyday. Quickly, she sped back to the room and summoned the egg-and-cheese sandwich she'd brought from home, taking large bites as she tried to finish it as fast as possible. The clock ticked nine, and she hurried over to the entrance and switched the 'CLOSED' sign to 'OPEN,' unlocking the door as well. And then she plopped behind the counter to await her first patrons. @roxanne 12.XX.2024 The paperwork for her new apartment had been signed only minutes earlier, and now Harper was the proud renter of a Diagon Alley studio apartment. The place was tiny, but that was all she could afford at the moment. She felt terrible rolling up her copy of the lease paper because that was basically her lifeline going forward. Come the New Year, she was moving out of her parents’ house and into the new place. They had seemed thrilled about it, whereas Ondina had pitched a fit and smashed Harper’s laptop on the ground. What a wonderful sister she was. And she wondered why Harper was trying to leave. Less drama and turmoil for both of them.
She had taken the day off from work in order to sign everything, thinking that it was going to take longer than thirty minutes. Nope! It wasn’t even nine o’clock yet and Harper was at a loss to how she should spend the rest of her free day. There was always the option of going in a few minutes late and saving the vacation day but she thought better of that. She didn’t take enough time off as it was, and getting a day to herself without her sister pouncing on her every second was going to be worth it in the end. Deciding to stay in Diagon Alley, Harper began the trek down to the joke shop to see what her uncle and cousins were up to. She already planned to see if they had any spare boxes for her move she could use – the shop always seemed to be overflowing with them in the backroom, so now was a better time than ever to inquire about it.
Opening the door to the shop enthusiastically, she spotted Roxanne sitting behind the counter. A quick glance around the store revealed they were the only ones in there. “Hey Rox,” she said cheerily as she approached the counter. “Looks like invisibility potions are in this time of year, huh?” Harper joked. She knew the store would be busy later in the day. Very few people had the ability to deal with gag gifts and joke items this early in the morning.
