[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] I CAN TASTE THE DANGER [attr="class","next"] DECEMBER 22, 2024 Christmas holiday had started for all of the Hogwarts students, and while many had stayed behind on the castle grounds, Ellie was not one of them. The previous day she had returned to London by way of the train and was met by Finn on the platform, the two of them had returned to her apartment together, and Ellie was left to her own devices, the day before going by in a blur. She mostly slept, tired from the train ride and the early rising she had done the previous day due to excitement, and she passed out completely, only waking up in the middle of the night to grab food from the kitchen. From the look on the clock in the bedroom that Finn had made for her over the summer break, it said it was a little after one in the morning. Slipping from her bed, she disappeared from the bedroom and made her way to the tiny kitchen inside the apartment. The fridge light illuminated her body as she looked inside, grabbing a bottle of water and looked for something to eat. Nothing caught her attention within the cold fridge.

@ellie 12.22.2024 Sleep was impossible to find when there were so many things to take care of over the next few days. Ellie had been collected from the train station, so that was one thing checked off the list. The second, and arguably one of the more important ones, thing to do was clean the apartment before their parents arrived in London. Their plane was due to land on the twenty-third, which, with a glance at her laptop calendar, was tomorrow. Finn hadn’t even realized that it was one in the morning already, the hands on the computer clock ticking by effortlessly. Time really meant nothing when she didn’t have plans to be somewhere. Without a job or proper leads to continue her scouting around the magical parts of London, there had been a lot of lying about over the last month and a half. Not that she was complaining, really. Spending her time at the gym or playing video games she had missed out on over the last few years was way more entertaining than risking her life for no reason. There would be plenty of that once pieces to the puzzle started falling into place. For now, enjoying her free time was better than nothing.
The sound of feet plodding past her closed bedroom door had Finn leaning back in her desk chair, staring at it. Her dog also had his head propped up, ears investigating. They weren’t used to having someone else in the apartment with them, and Ellie’s reintroduction was still confusing at times, especially in the early hours of the morning. Wondering if she should ignore it or not, the clink of the fridge being opened had Bruce at the door, looking back and forth between the door knob and Finn. He probably figured that since everyone was up and awake, it was play time. Begrudgingly standing up, Finn crossed the room and popped the door open, the husky squeezing himself through the gap before she could get it open all the way. “Incoming,” Finn called down the hallway, her voice on the heels of the husky’s jangling collar. She wasn’t far behind her furry friend, spotting her sister standing idly in the kitchen with the fridge door open. “Hungry?”

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] I CAN TASTE THE DANGER [attr="class","next"] ‘Incoming,’ came her sister’s voice minutes before the Bruce came skidding into the kitchen and over to Ellie, almost knocking her over. She giggled a little and started scratching behind his ear, watching as his eyes closed, his tail wagged faster, and his head tilted into her touch. Seconds after he had entered, so did her sister, and she was questioning if she was hungry. Ellie nodded her head, rubbing at her eye with her free hand. “I feel like I haven’t eaten in hours,” she breathed out truthfully, her stomach rumbling loudly as if summoned by her saying so. She had come home and fallen asleep quite quickly after returning from the train, where she had sugary sweets instead of an actual meal. She even had a granola bar, the very treat whose wrapper was still sitting on the nightside table in the bedroom. She wanted some food, maybe a meal—or even cereal. “I didn’t wake you guys…did I?” she questioned softly, looking at her sister as if she were waiting to be yelled at or told that she had, she was a little guilty as she bit her bottom lip.

@ellie 12.22.2024 Hours was an understatement. Ellie had crashed at some point between when Finn got her back to the apartment and the walk she took Bruce on soon after. Granted, it had been an hour or so long walk, but her husky needed to stretch his legs! She had sort of hoped he would be tired out quicker now that Ellie was here for the holiday break, but that was moot with her sister fast asleep upon returning from the walk. Dragging her seventy pound dog away from her sister’s bedroom was a battle for the ages, eventually forcing Finn to shoot a spell at it to get the job done. She had forgotten how well the two got on together, and Bruce wasn’t the type to sit idly by when his favorite family member was back again. Something about the way she gave him all the attention, as if Finn wasn’t good enough for him.
“You must have been exhausted,” she commented, pulling the fridge door open all the way as Ellie became occupied with scratching the dog. There really wasn’t much inside because she had been planning on growing shopping during the day, and then again once their parents arrived. “No, I’m usually still up at this point.” Finn grabbed her own bottle of water out before letting the fridge door suction close and hitting the lights on, keeping them at a dim level. If her eyes weren’t going to be adjusted, Ellie’s definitely weren’t after being asleep. “I don’t have much here to eat because I was planning on taking you out for dinner before, you know,” she motioned towards the hallway with her head. “But a couple of the fast food places in the area are still open at this hour, so we can hit one of those up if you want?” Finn knelt down and gave her dog a pat on the head, “You’ll have to stay home Brucey. I don’t think they like dogs at McDonald’s.”

I CAN TASTE THE DANGER BUT I DON'T WANNA RUN I'M A CAUTION TAKER, BUT BABY YOU'RE A FORCE OF NATURE
Ellie yawned, rubbing at her eyes as her sister commented on her having been exhausted. She nodded her head, "Yeah―I was so excited I barely slept the past few nights. I think that was the longest I slept in a while," she said with a soft laugh. Her sister was quick to say that she was usually still awake at this point and that there wasn't much food to eat in the house because she was initially planning to take her out. She nodded her head, "McDonald's sounds good...I could go for some nuggets...maybe a shake. Wonder if their ice cream machine is broken like it is all the time back home..." she breathed out with a soft, tired laugh.

@ellie 12.22.2024 McDonald’s it was then! Her parents would kill her if they knew how much fast food and junk she was pumping into her sister’s body whenever she stayed with her. Rumor had it that the food at Hogwarts was exceptionally healthy though, but Finn had yet to see it for herself. There was no reason for her to go to her sister’s new school, and it wasn’t like she had the legal authority to do so anymore either. If she had played her cards correctly, she would have put in for an auror transfer to the Ministry office instead of outright calling it quits.
But this was fine. She enjoyed having a year-long break. This was the first time she had any extended amount of freedom since the summer before her seventh year at Ilvermorny. Her dog certainly appreciated it and having the time to do what she wanted with it was liberating beyond belief. To say that it felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders would be an understatement.
“I don’t think this one does ice cream, El,” Finn admitted as she moved from petting her dog to grabbing her boots. It hadn’t snowed yet in London, but these were easily the warmest things she could put on her feet. Slipping both on effortlessly, she waved her wand to tie them, and then sent a second spell towards the jackets that were hung up next to the door, directing Ellie’s towards her. “But I could be wrong. Their menu is so weird here,” she rolled her eyes as she slid her jacket on, managing to unlock the front door once her first arm was all the way through the sleeve. Bruce tried to push past her legs, Finn only managing to stop him once his head shot between them. With the position he had put himself in, she couldn’t see his face, but his wagging tail was thumping against the door. “Ellie, could you grab his leash? We’ll have to be super nice to the McDonald’s people to get you inside, okay Bruce?” At almost two in the morning, they probably wouldn’t care much. They were going to be in and out almost immediately anyways.

Back home, Ellie practically had to beg her parents for fast food. Her parents barely had let them as children, and sometimes when they did, it wasn't a lot. Being with Finn meant that all bets were off the table. And while Ellie was thankful for her fast metabolism and the fact that Hogwarts had healthy food, and the fact of the stairs, it didn't mean it would make her fat. Hell, her parents never had to know about this.
'I don't think this one does ice cream, El. But I could be wrong. Their menu is so weird here.' Ellie laughed, shrugging her shoulders, "I mean...does any McDonald's have ice cream?" she questioned, it's not like she's ever had it at any location back in the states. It was always 'broken.'
Her sister asked her to grab the leash, and she nodded her head, running to do so and returning with it in her hands, passing it over to her sister; "Here!"

@ellie 12.22.2024 Ellie had a really good point: did McDonald’s ever truly have ice cream available? Milkshakes, sure. But ice cream that went on a cone was a longshot. Especially in the winter. “I guess we’ll see?” she laughed. If they didn’t have ice cream there, they could always stop by the shop in Diagon Alley the next time they were there. Finn wasn’t the biggest fan of their ‘magical’ flavors or whatever, but they had the widest variety of ice cream that she had ever seen before. Ordering basic chocolate always seemed to get strange looks from the employees too. Apparently that was weird over here. They did almost manage to entice her with a pizza flavored scoop once but she had to pass. Nothing was ever going to compare to the pizza back home and ruining it with an ice cream flavor would be terrible.
Taking Bruce’s leash from her sister, Finn fought her dog to get his harness on and then locked him in. He was a pain to walk late at night, especially when she didn’t have the energy to drag him back home when he started to follow a good smelling trail. “Ready?” she asked Ellie as she buttoned her jacket up all the way and slid her gloves on before stepping out of the apartment. It would only take a few minutes to get to the McDonald’s, but it was bound to take longer now that the dog was going with them. He would have to get his sniffs in on the way there, and then stop by all of them on the way back as well to make sure nothing had changed.
Exiting her apartment building, Bruce lunged out onto the sidewalk, yanking Finn along with him. “Hey!” she hissed angrily at her dog, “Chill out Bruce. You don’t have to act out just because Ellie is here.” It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen her in a long time. Finn expected the over the top excited behavior during the summer when her sister first showed up, but not now. “So how was school?” she asked, holding Bruce still so Ellie could catch up to them. “We haven’t really had time to catch up since you fell asleep the second you got back.”

Finn seemed to have the same train of thought as Ellie, or at least, she realized it after the young witch had mentioned it. Each time they had gone to McDonald's back home, there was a fifty-fifty shot of getting ice cream. If only those muggles had magic, making the machine work again would be as easy as a snap. Ellie nodded as her sister laughed, saying they would see if they had ice cream and if it worked if they did, "Sounds like a plan."
Finn was Ellie's guide in this, she knew more about London then she did - especially since she had spent little time here before heading to Hogwarts during the summer holiday. And now that she was here only a few weeks, she once again had to rely on her sister for guidance around the strange area. She was sure eventually she would understand, especially since she believed she would stay in London well after her graduation from Hogwarts - even if Ilvermorny were to be fixed by next term. She had a term and a half left; there was no point in graduating from Ilvermorny now.
Finn took the leash from her sister and got Bruce ready; his energy-filled to the brim as if it were morning instead of night. And her sister asked if she was ready after she had finished dressing for the cold, which she nodded that she was, and the two exited the apartment. The moment they were out, Bruce yanked at her sister and dragged her along with him, causing her to cry out and tell him to chill. Ellie was giggling the entire time, and it only died down when she was asked about school. She smiled, "School's been great. I've made a small handful of friends. Most of them are in the same house as me - Ravenclaw. Though...Kaylee was sorted into a different house than Zen and me, so we barely see her except for class and during free time." she said, a small frown appearing on her face.

▲ Ravenclaw house. Finn knew what it was because of Ellie, obviously, but she was pretty sure that one of Will’s sisters had been in it as well. It was strange to her though that the Ilvermorny houses didn’t transfer over similarly to their Hogwarts counterparts. She had absolutely no idea what she would have been had she gone to the British school, though quite a few people had tried to guess. Definitely not Ravenclaw though. Trying to lay her own values down into the four houses of Hogwarts, she personally thought the Hufflepuffs sounded fun, but would probably end up closer to being a Gryffindor. That was going off of who she was now though – remembering what she was like in school took longer and longer with each passing year. All of her Auror training and missions had completely overwritten the not so important memories of school. The only ones that remained were of major events or fond memories of being with friends. And even those tended to slip away because she had better ones to replace them. At least Ellie would have a memorable school experience, being forced to transfer over to Hogwarts with all of her classmates. That certainly surpassed Finn’s experience at Ilvermorny. As for her sister’s friends, she had heard all of their names before. Maybe even met one or two of them, but couldn’t actually put the names to their faces. She hadn’t spent much time at home the last few years, so even if she had met them, those same friends probably looked completely different now. “At least you have friends over here with you,” Finn joked without realizing how sad that made her life sound. She had Will, but he wasn’t always free to hang out and do things. Her other friends that had come over around the same time as her had decided to go back home, not that she could blame them. London wasn’t for everyone, and there had been plenty of times where she thought going back to New York would be easier. She didn’t have a job here, and aside from Ellie and Will, there wasn’t anything else tying her to the place. Certainly not the food. “But how’s Hogwarts compared to Ilvermorny? Better classes? Everyone I’ve talked to here seems to think it’s a better school.”@ellie ● 388 ● The Tartarus Impalement by Shadow Of Intent MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

'At least you have friends over here with you,' The brunette's eyes widened, and then grew sad. "I know your joking...but that's just really sad, Finn." Her words came out almost monotone as if her emotions had been completely drained from her. But it also confused Ellie a little bit, hadn't she made friends while she was over here? She had been here so long...it seemed impossible unless she had alienated herself from anyone with a British accent.
She thought about life over here without Zen or Kay. What would have happened if none of her friends had come over? If she had come over alienated from everyone and everything like her sister had? She would have attempted to make friends; she had even done so when the school year started. But that was the difference between the two. One was a social butterfly, and the other a wallflower.
'But how's Hogwarts compared to Ilvermorny? Better classes? Everyone I've talked to here seems to think it's a better school.' She shrugged her shoulders, "It's harder than Ilvermorny was. Some of the stuff we learned was something they taught was before my year. It seems that Hogwarts is a little advanced...so playing catchup was not fun. But I like it, everyone's great."

▲ Ellie didn’t skip a beat when it came to repeating what Finn had been thinking about her current social situation. Technically she had a friend: Will. But it was only him, and a few acquaintances here or there. She didn’t see anything wrong with that, it was simply what happened after you reached a certain age. Her friends from school were scattered all over the country anyways, so it wasn’t like she saw them on a regular basis when she had been in New York City for all those years. The argument could be made that most Ilvermorny graduates ended up there because it was where MACUSA was located, and therefore most of the proper government jobs, but even then it was hard to catch up with people when she had a job that called for odd hours. A weekend day here or there was basically all she had been able to manage for five years. That was just how it worked, and it was impossible to avoid it. By coming to London, at least she had the free time to go out and meet people. Talk about being overloaded with human interaction that wasn’t from criminals. The first few months she had been here had been absolutely exhausting and she was glad that all of that was finally done with. Finn decided to shrug off her sister’s concerns, since she knew that she was perfectly fine with how things were progressing. Not everyone needed a million friends or people to rely on. She had her dog and Will and that was enough for her for the time being. Being concerned about Hogwarts and Ellie was infinitely more important these days anyways. “Advanced is good. I’ve heard they have a more…medieval way of teaching, if that makes sense? You definitely see it in Diagon Alley and all of the other pockets of magical communities. Sort of quaint, really.” The only problem with that being that England seemed to be lacking in modernization where New York wasn’t. They had different ways of doing things, which was fine, but it still felt like something was missing here. “I think as long as you pass, mom and dad won’t care. And then next year you’ll get to go back to normal. I can’t imagine it’ll take them another year to repair everything.”@ellie ● 389 ● Under Wraps by Her's MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

I can taste the danger but I don't wanna run So pull me to the ground and I won't put up a fight I'm a caution taker, but baby you're a force of nature Baby you're a force of nature Life in England was growing on her, but maybe that had to do with the fact that Ellie's life had dramatically changed since coming here. Sure, she still had Zen and Kaylee to keep her company - but she had made more friends than she had realized she could. Ellie had always been a social butterfly, a little shy, but she eventually bloomed around people. And since coming to Hogwarts, she had blossomed. Was there a part of her that still missed home? Yes, of course. She missed her parents a lot. But being with Finn, it made her happy. She had missed her sister since she moved away, and she liked the excuse of what happened to Ilvermorny to see her sister more. They had been so close, and then Finn moved - and the distance took its toll. And since coming to England and living with her since the past summer, she caught the flame of their sisterhood and ran with it. Plus, getting to hang out with Bruce was a huge plus. 'Advanced is good. I've heard they have a more...medieval way of teaching, if that makes sense? You definitely see it in Diagon Alley and all of the other pockets of magical communities. Sort of quaint, really.' The brunette nodded her head, "It has its pros and cons, that is for sure. But I definitely know what you mean." While Ellie enjoyed the simple life that Hogwarts offered, there was still something that was missing - something Ilvermorny had that the castle did not. There were some things she missed and others that she didn't, the same with the things she likes and doesn't. She nodded her head, "Yeah, that's true. Mom and dad would be truly upset if I was failing - and I don't think I am. I'm not about to start now, that's for sure. I think it would be weird...transferring to another school for one school year and then returning back to Ilvermorny. I feel like everything we learn in seventh year at Ilvermorny, I'm learning now." Her words were laced with uncertainty, she wasn't sure she would want to return home for one last year of school, even if it was opened. MADE BY VEL OF GS

▲ Speaking of not having a super modern city, the glimmer of golden arches reflecting from around the next corner had Finn almost completely retracting her previous comment. What magical London really needed was a fast food chain. Maybe even call it Merlin’s, and have the same menu as McDonald’s. It was perfect! That way she could support her local place and not the massive American conglomerate. Stick it to the big man or something. “It’s up to you with what you want to do,” Finn commented as she reeled Bruce closer in as they neared the final turn to the fast-food joint. “If it’s staying here to finish out at Hogwarts, I don’t have a problem with you crashing at my place for the breaks.” Having to bounce back and forth between schools and countries – even with some of the same professors and all the same classmates – had to be a strain. Finn obviously couldn’t understand what it was like to be student right now, but she definitely wouldn’t have liked being thrown all over the world just to complete the last few years of her education. Or in general, really. Moving here was more of her way of escaping the norm, but that was completely opposite of being forced to stay. Approaching the glass front of the McDonald’s, Finn waved her free hand at the cashier, before pointing down at her dog to mime her question of whether or not she could bring him in. The worker couldn’t have been any older than Ellie, and the sudden late night appearance of a dog had the cashier immediately yelling back to the kitchen for the other school-aged worker. It was starting to look like Bruce was going to be the star of the show tonight. Pushing the door open, the dog immediately started pulling Finn through the lobby and towards the cashier, who was now around the front and kneeling over for Bruce. Finn gave her sister a look as she said something about how ‘sweet’ her dog was to the girl now getting painted in giant husky kisses. @ellie ● 349 ● By The Way by Red Hot Chili Peppers MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Glad to know you aren't tired of me yet," she said, a small laugh leaving her lips. "I'm sure Brucie will be glad to see me stay around longer, right, Brucie?" she questioned, rubbing at the dog's head for a second as they walked. While Ellie would have loved to have graduated from Ilvermorny as her sister did, being at Hogwarts for one year and going back, didn't seem practical. Plus, Europe was starting to grow on her. Even after she graduated, she felt as if she would stay here. And if she returned to America, there was no saying she wouldn't move back after graduation. It wasn't long before they reached the McDonald's, leaving Ellie to wonder what they would do with Bruce. However, her question was answered when the teenagers inside seemed excited by the question that Finn had practically mimed. And then, they slipped inside, Bruce suddenly the attention hog. A huge smile appeared on Ellie's face as she watched Bruce practically make the younger cashiers day. And Bruce seemed just as excited to be giving someone besides Ellie and Finn's attention. They stayed for a little bit, even after getting their food ordered and received. It was almost as if the teenagers didn't want Bruce to leave, as much as Bruce didn't want to stop giving kisses. But eventually, Ellie and Finn were forced to return home, leaving the excited teenagers to wave as left, making their way back home, full and happy. MADE BY VEL OF GS
