QUARANTINE LIFTS

After months of magical isolation, the International Confederation of Wizards has finally ended the mandated quarantine of the British Isles.

The quarantine started May 12, 2025. While the quarantine’s restrictions were partially loosened in June, the majority of the Ministry of Magic citizens have remained isolated from the rest of the magical world. While there are still a handful of cases in the countries, The International Confederation of Wizards is satisfied that Hag’s Fever is under control and St. Mungos’ recent magical advances have proven to be successful in curing infected witches and wizards of the illness.

CAMILA CALDERÓN DISCUSSES TOUR

The Daily Prophet had an opportunity earlier this month to catch up with international pop superstar Camila Calderón, who is planning to embark on her Superstar tour--which was postponed following the Hag Fever pandemic in early 2025.

So your tour was postponed in early 2025, are you excited to get back on the road this upcoming year?
“Yes, I am very excited to travel again and to meet my fans here in Europe!”

Hag’s Fever hit the British Isles pretty hard, are you recovering well?
“Yes, thank you. I am very well, and I am confident that I will be able to perform well for my fans.”

Did you go anywhere after the quarantine lifted?
“Actually, I went to Argentina to visit my parents for my birthday.”

So, you just got back from Argentina? How was your trip?
“Yes, I just returned from Argentina. I was very happy to visit my own country again after a long time, but I am happy to be back here also.”

What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five years?
“…Oh, that is so difficult! I hope that I will be making music, of course, and I hope to visit my fans in more countries.”

Invitations went out for The Windsor Christmas on the 1st, do we expect to see you there?
“Yes, I am looking forward to it.”

I was told to ask….are you bringing someone special with you?? What are you wearing??
“No, no, I do not have a date! Hahaha. I do not know what I will wear yet, but I can say that it will be nice.”

St. Mungos EXPERIENCES SPIKE IN ANEMIA CASES  

In recent weeks St. Mungos has experienced an alarming spike in patients being admitted for anemia. While mild cases, St. Mungos is highly concerned over the amount of hospitalizations. Many of the patients were perfectly healthy leading up to their admittance and none had a history of anemia (personal or family). Most alarming is the sudden onset of the symptoms. Most reported having no symptoms prior to the day of their admittance. 

The Ministry of Magic was alerted to the incidents after the fourth patient was admitted, and the Ministry has assured the hospital that a full investigation would be performed.

There is an uncanny similarity to these events and the events of the summer of 2002, in which a gang of Vampires went out a spree of attacking helpless witches and wizards in their sleep. When questioned about if there may be a link between these events and those of 2002, the Ministry offered the following statement: "We don't want to make assumptions or rule anything out yet. We instead ask that all wizardkind take extra precautions."

While we don't want to assume the worst, we can't help but remember that 4 Vampires from the Summer of 2002 were Prisoners in Azkaban during the mass breakout last year, and there have been no reports of their recapture.

VIKTOR KRUM: MINISTER OF MAYHEM?

Minister Krum has been in office for mere months, and has made few changes to the status quo. The public expected Krum to take rapid and decisive action against the appearance of the mysterious island, dubbed Yrisle, and yet nothing has taken place. Only when Head of Department for Magical Law Enforcement, Bianca Rivera, took action did the ministry start to make moves to lock the island down and regulate entry and exit from the island for the protection of all magical folk. Though young, Rivera is a strong-willed individual and a beacon of hope within the ministry that for far too long has been sitting on its hands.

Not only did Krum fail to act with the appearance of Yrisle, he also has not drafted legislation clearly identifying the reassignment of the terms beast versus being. There has been longstanding debate whether to class the centaurs of our time as beasts or beings, given they are half and half. The centaurs have presented their case, however a decision has yet to be taken.

Has Krum failed as a minister? As the Ministry dissolves into mayhem trying to tidy up the mess in the minister’s wake, the opposition and supporters of Krum alike seem to have lost faith in their leader. Now the only question is, will he take his criticism and flourish or will he flounder in the mistakes he has made.

DAUGHTER'S PREGNANCY TO BLAME FOR KRUM'S POLITICAL SHORTCOMINGS?

Members of the public have expressed their concerns about Minister Krum's political leadership for months, but some feel that the private life of the Minister for Magic may be to blame for his political failings. Rumours of a pregnancy began to surface late last year surrounding Krum's daughter Iliana, and keen observers have argued that these coincided with a change in stance by the Minister. Others, meanwhile, have voiced that Krum's approval ratings as Minister began to fall as the magical world came to terms with the untimely death of former Minister for Magic Hermione Granger, to whom Krum was a close personal friend.

"Well, I never thought that a Quidditch player should be Minister," complained one wizard with whom the Daily Prophet spoke. "What does a Bulgarian Quidditch player know about British politics?"

By the time that Iliana Krum's pregnancy was confirmed, some felt that Minister Krum should have taken the revelation as an opportunity to show his public support for his teenage daughter. One young witch, who identified herself only as Daisy, expressed her sympathy for Iliana Krum. "If he were my father, I'd never speak to him again. Imagine! Pregnant at her age, and her own dad can't be bothered to defend her."

A representative for Minister Krum could not be reached for comment; however, a source within the Ministry has suggested that Krum does not plan to address the situation publicly, calling it "a personal matter".

BLISHWICK DOES IT AGAIN!

It's wedding bells at Blishwick's Matchmaking once again as another couple are set to tie the knot this Spring! Youngster's Ondina Weasley and Renard Goyle are said to be a very happy couple. And why wouldn't they be? The two are coming from exceptional riches, both socially and financially.

It's something of a whirlwind romance, but we expect nothing less from the likes of Jimbo Blishwick - the esteemed matchmaker among wizarding kind. The only way is up, they say! The question is, can they go any higher?

It's full steam ahead for this duo, as plans for an extravagant event are set to take place just next month: on April 22nd. When approached for a quote on what the couple thought, the bride-to-be couldn't look more ecstatic: "I'm so terribly pleased, I honestly don't even have the words to express myself. Thank you, Jimbo!" Her groom-to-be had no comment, but who could blame him! You heard it here first, folks, Blishwick's is the way to go for a wedding this year, so get in line.

When asked for a quote, the man himself - Jimbo Blishwick - said: "I'm glad to see another successful engagement come to fruition and hopefully to many, many years of marriage." And for all those interested in a fortunate match of their own, he instructs you: "If you're interested in Blishwick Matchmaking, make sure to schedule your appointment today. Do it the Blishwick way!"

It's shaping up to be one of the most exclusive events of the year with a few famous faces rumoured to make an appearance on this guest list. Salute to the happy couple!

KRUM VISITS THE WRONG ISLAND

While the Minister and his wife lounged on the beautiful beaches of Ibiza, his Law Enforcement department has been locking down the rumored red coast of the mysterious island of "Yrisle". The Daily Prophet has had the opportunity to speak to several individuals who had not only been to the island and told of their harrowing experiences. Many are scared, wondering if this island poses a threat at all, and should they be worried, and does the Ministry actually have the situation under control.

“The Minister had important business to attend to in the country.” Remarked Krum’s aide when pressed by a journalist from the Prophet. The young aide wouldn’t remark on what the business was exactly but the pictures are clear. Krum, already suffering from an image problem, has been suffering from abysmal ratings since taking office and especially in how he is handling this international incident leaving many to draw comparisons to the late Minister Hermione Granger-Weasley. “Minister Granger would have acted immediately while reassuring the public.” Noted a Ministry Employee who wished to remain anonymous. It is clear that Krum has islands on his mind, if only it were the correct one.

Duel of the Century

The fire at Hogwart has devastated wizard kind around the world. But the devastation turned to betrayal as many members of the Purifiers, the terrorist group that has tormented the UK since 2024, were captured.  Many families and friends have been torn apart as the identies of these dark wizards became known. Bute the greatest betrayal? That of asher rowan burke , the now-former Head of Department of Mysteries. 

This prominent Ministry official  was captured and arrested at Hogwarts after what will go down in history as one of the greatest modern day duels. But who was the brave soul that faced, and defeated Burke? Hogwarts professor blaise leo zabini .

Zabini might be just the Defense Against the Dark Art's Professor, but he didn't get the position based of his theoretical knowledge of the subject. Zabini's career actually began at the Ministry of magic as a hit wizard. He worked sucessfully as a Hit Wizard for many years before becoming an Obliviator. In 2024 though he chose to leave the Ministry and take up his current Career at Hogwarts.

When asked for a comment regarding the duel Zabini was unfortunately unavailable for comment. None the less, The Ministry has awarded Zabini a Order of Merlin - Second Class for his heroic efforts in protecting Hogwarts and his indispensable help in capturing Burke.

OP ED: MAGICAL BRITAIN AT A CROSSROADS

The British magical community has arrived at a critical moment in determining the future of our society. We faced years of turbulence and chaos that reached every corner of our world and set into motion a period of uncertainty, anxiety, and even fear. We watched as our sacred and longstanding magical institutions came under attack, as despicable acts of terror permeated and interrupted every aspect of our daily lives, and mourned the victims taken too soon from us as the result of Elaine Dupree and her criminal organization’s malicious intent to spread anarchy and horror.

And then in May, the very foundation of our society was shaken by the Purifiers’ last appalling attack which left Hogwarts in ashes and families mourning the loss of their children. This act was the final stand of a desperate woman who saw no way out and sought to take the heart of our nation with her. But she failed. The community has shown itself to be strong, to be resilient, and we are still standing even while Elaine Dupree has long since been buried.

Out of the fire came the deeply disturbing revelation that the Purifiers had managed to infiltrate every part of our society before their collapse, even reaching so far as installing one of their own as head of a Ministry department. We take this issue with serious consideration, and I have directed every available resource of my department to investigate how such a thing could have happened. This case has received my personal attention and is being discussed at the highest levels of the Ministry. It is clear that far-reaching reforms at the Ministry are required, but one truth still remains at the foundation of my department’s mandate. Injustice will not be met with impunity. Tragedy will never be met with silence.

The Department of Magical Law Enforcement has been working tirelessly since May to restore order and calm to our society. Dozens of Purifiers were arrested at Hogwarts and in the weeks after, and my Aurors and Hit Wizards have been working valiantly to uncover and take apart the extensive Purifier network that was built over these last years. No piece of this network will be left untouched, and every case in relation to the Purifiers has been given the utmost priority. Trials began under the authority of the Wizengamot last week to bring those responsible to justice, and our rates for arrests and raids has hit an all-time high as we leave no stone unturned. The diligence and bravery of our Aurors and Hit Wizards do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

But I write to you now not only to discuss the past, but to look towards the future. We have reached a crossroads as a society, and we must decide now which path to take. Will we let our old rivalries and bitter feuds engulf us, or will we rise to the challenge and respond to the worst of crimes with the best that we can be?

I have already briefed the new Minister of Magic on the state of our society, and identified key priorities for the Ministry in these critical months ahead of us now. First, we must advance in the reconstruction of Azkaban Prison. A proposal was approved last month, and we can expect the project’s completion by the end of the summer. Second, we must look towards our partners and the common threads that bind us together. Relations between the British and American ministries have never been stronger as we assist each other in turn with the tragedies that strike us, and we in the United Kingdom remain deeply appreciative of the Aurors sent by MACUSA and the establishment of a mechanism to improve cooperation between our nations. In the face of Yrisle and the continued danger that this island poses, the Ministry has also extended a hand to our druid partners to confront this shared threat together. Despite enduring differences, Yrisle must take priority.  Divided, we will surely be overwhelmed by this new threat. Together, we can overcome any evil.

I believe in a bright future for our magical society. I believe in our ability to respond to injustice with strength, to fight terror with fortitude, and to restore a sense of safety and security to our nation – not through casting suspicion and blame, but by setting aside our differences and standing together.

Aware Wolf Hits the Market

For over 50 years, the Wolfsbane potion has been the only relief known to werewolf kind. This potion, invented by Damocles Belby helped a werewolf retain their human self during the full moon, but only worked if the werewolf took the potion every day for the week leading up to the full moon. At the time, this potion revolutionized the treatment of werewolves, though many still questioned. Could more be done?

The answer is now a resounding YES! Potioneers Sienna Aurélie Linslee and EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK , employees of Slug & Jigger's apothecary have invented a new potion dubbed "Aware Wolf".

Aware Wolf is thus named for it's enhancement of increasing a werewolf's awareness and control during the full moon. On top of that though, it only has to be taken once each month (the day before the full moon). 

When asked why they wanted to create this potion, Linslee stated "Since I wasn't born into the magical world, it was always easier to see what wasn't working right from an outside perspective. Werewolves have a harder time fitting in, not only because of outdated ways of thinking but even just the physical limitations in going to work after a full moon, or how expensive the Wolfsbane is! I wanted to do my part to make things better, so that nobody feels left behind, and I've always loved potions so the answer was right there in front of me."

Reporter also spoke with Oppedyk, particularly about the set backs the potion's creation had. “There were lots of setbacks - hesitancy from the werewolf public to try something new. And of course whenever you’re concocting a new potion there’s a matter of not exploding your cauldron when you put something together that doesn’t really work as well as you thought. Sometimes things have different reactions than expected, and we had to do loads of experimentation to find the perfect balance.”

Needless to say, the potion has been well received by apothocaries around the country. Likewise, Sienna Aurélie Linslee and EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK have been awarded  Orders of Merlin - Second Class.

Ministry Witch Smuggles Contraband endangering Britain

It’s well known that since the fiendfyre spread of Hags Fever throughout Great Britain, imports of magical goods have been closely monitored. While the true origin of the plague is still unknown, it has been most likely attributed to contaminated potion ingredients. The Prophet is still investigating these claims, and is determined to bring you the truth.

But today’s breaking story isn’t about Hags Fever, though any crumb of truth will surely be revealed. The Prophet can exclusively divulge that a high ranking member of the ministry has been detained at the British border for attempting to smuggle an excessive number of Erumpet horns into the country. Erumpet horns are, of course, a class B tradeable material, which means that there are strict regulations in place regarding the movement of these goods. These regulations have tightened significantly since the aforementioned epidemic.

Licenses and regulations can typically be considered a part of daily life for most ministry officials. Yet Finn Nottingham decided that neither applied to her whilst smuggling in over three dozen Erumpet horns from western Africa. The goods were seized at the border, and surely the ministry will be investigating why one of their top law enforcement employees was trying to bring such a substantial amount of explosive material into the country.

In Conversation with... Bianca Rivera: Two Years On

Two years have passed since the youngest department head in decades took over the role as head of the department of magical law enforcement. Many changes have been made to the department, with Rivera standing stoically as the leader of one of the ministry’s key departments through turmoil.


What are you most proud of accomplishing?

I’m sure everyone expects to hear about the Purifiers…but the Muggle Protection Task Force is one of my most important initiatives since I took this post. There are still so many wizards that buy into old ways of thinking, conversations that belong to the last century and have no place in our society today. Muggles are not a threat, and in some ways we have a lot that we can learn from them to make our lives better too. These Aurors and Hit Wizards that have joined the task force are some of the brightest that we have and they do important work every day to keep the peace between our two worlds. At the end of the day, every single one of us deserves the chance to live…regardless of whether you have magic or not.


What have been some of your greatest challenges?

You can’t please everybody. As an Auror, the obstacles in my way seemed fairly obvious. I needed to choose the right spell, or follow the evidence, or put in the hours until I had my suspect. But sitting behind my desk means looking at a bigger picture. There are a million difficult decisions to make every day, and somebody will always be pissed about one of them. So at the end of the day, you have to ignore the politics and the second-guessing and rely on your instincts. And once the decision has been made…don’t look back. Doubt is the most dangerous thing to an Auror, because it doesn’t just poison the past. It follows you in every decision you’ll ever make, and that split second of hesitation can cost you everything. Sometimes I have those doubts too, but I’ve learned to trust myself. And once you start to believe in yourself, then others start to see it too.


Can you take us through a standard day as Head of DMLE?

Well, my day usually starts with an unholy amount of coffee and a promise that tomorrow I’ll start to scale it back. I like to spend the first hour of my day reading through my email and the reports that found their way to my desk overnight so I can best prep for my morning briefing with the Minister. I usually have more files to read through during my morning meetings, but I save my afternoons for the interesting tidbits. Sometimes I like to visit the trainees in their afternoon classes, or go out into the field so I can observe the situation for myself. If we have a visiting foreign official, I prefer to host them outside the Ministry so they can see more of London. And of course, the last hour of the day is spent going through the calendar with my assistant so I know what to expect for the next day. Sometimes I remember to eat lunch in the middle of all that – I’ve been told coffee isn’t a food group.


You’ve passed some important legislation through the Wizengamot – can you outline this process for our readers?

It all starts with an idea, and anyone can contribute if they’re brave enough to defend it. I encourage independence and initiative in all my staff, and that includes actively participating in the Wizengamot to promote the relationship between law enforcement and our legal system. The Wizengamot is full of sharp minds and there’s no group more familiar with wizarding law and history– but Aurors have valuable insights from the field and their everyday contact with the best and worst of magical kind. One of the most important responsibilities I have, then, is to offer these insights and be present as an adviser. In particular, I’m very proud of how we’ve been able to codify our dynamic and changing relationship with the druids. After the fall of their barrier, it was important to take immediate action for the protection of Hy-Brasil and my Aurors were in a unique position to offer their services. Their patrols of the island keep it safe, and they in turn have the opportunity to act as everyday ambassadors. And that’s worth slogging through a bit of paperwork in the Wizengamot.


What inspired you to follow a law enforcement career?

We all draw inspiration from home. My father worked in law enforcement, and he was…everything an officer should be. He was strong, and fair, and determined to keep his community safe. One of his very first lessons to me was this idea that each one of us has the power to do the right thing. He would always say that if you could change a life, you could change the world. I believed him. In law enforcement, I have always worked hard for the good and safety of the community, but in the end…it’s the stories that keeps you invested. It’s watching how you can make a difference in one life that reminds you why it’s worth it.


You’re from Chile, a long way from here. What made you take this position in the UK? Could you not have gotten up the career ladder at home?

I came to London because I wanted the best. I’ve always pushed myself to see just how far I can go, and I suppose I was never on a traditional path like the rest of my classmates. A professor in Castelobruxo suggested London or New York to me very early on, and my imagination was immediately captured by the thought of the United Kingdom. This is where history is made. This is where Aurors come to test themselves and push to become the best version of themselves that they can be. I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied staying home when there was an opportunity to learn what I was really made of, and I’ve never regretted my choice.


Do you have any special projects coming up in the next 12 months?

Look, I’m sure nobody is surprised to hear that we’re still on Purifier clean-up. Hogwarts was only the beginning, and my investigators have been working themselves to the bone in order to map out the Purifier network and understand just how it was built. Trials have finally started in the Wizengamot and are expected to continue in the following months, but my Aurors are still working to dismantle Purifier networks and uncover further accomplices and hiding places.
Besides that, one of the most important projects in the department has been to increase our community engagement. At the end of the day, we’re here to serve the public and the connection between officer and civilian is key. So we want to hear from you. How we can be better, how we can be more present, what you need from us to feel safe.

What is your vision for the department in five years? Ten?

I want to see a department that knows how to balance tradition with innovation, and can be a shining example of the best of wizardkind. Aurors have a historic role in the wizarding community and I want to honor that. Even so, the world is constantly changing and we have to be at the forefront of these trends in order to serve the community and stand as its protectors. I believe in a Ministry that can be wise and fair, a voice to those who can’t make themselves be heard and a shield to those who need it. I believe in a bright future for our magical society, if we can learn to see the best in each other and fight injustice with strength.


What sort of legacy do you hope to leave with this role?

At the end of the day, I’m only one person. Someday I’ll leave this role, but the Ministry and British magical society will continue to move forward. But I hope I can leave behind a message of hope. That whenever we are confronted with the worst of human nature, we can learn to stand again and grow stronger. That anyone can make it this far, even from the farthest corners of the globe and from the lowest rungs of society. That even against the evil in this world, and there will always be evil, there is still bravery and truth and justice.
