Brody had been surprised by how many other students, including those from Ilvermorny, had gone home for the winter break. He didn't mind that he and his brothers had stayed at Hogwarts, though, especially when they were allowed to go into Hogsmeade for the festival practically whenever they felt like it. Brody didn't mind being confined to the castle and its grounds—considering that he had the time to explore them—but he liked the festival, too. There were plenty of shops that had sprung up for the occasion, and they would be a great place to buy presents for everyone on his list.
Making sure that his twin brother didn't find out what he was getting until December 25th would be the real challenge, which was why Brody set out the afternoon before Christmas to find just the thing. He could keep the other presents a secret if he hid them far enough inside of his trunk, but it was a little harder when he shared pretty much everything with his twin, including a dormitory.
The weather was cold, as it had been for most of December, though Brody felt that it could have been worse. Really, the crowds of people were what he was worried about. He should have thought more strategically about what he was doing to make sure that everything wouldn't get picked over before he got into the village.
His destination was a store called Knick Knacks and Nut Cracks, which he had been in previously to buy ornaments for his parents and grandparents. They had some other decorations that he thought his twin might like, though he wasn't wrong in thinking that it bordered on the sentimental. He wanted to make sure that they had something to remember their time at Hogwarts by, especially if their pitch to their parents about staying there for as long as the de Snaijers did wouldn't sway them into letting them stay in Scotland.
He reached the store, opened the door, and almost instantly bumped into the back of another shopper—the check-out line was that long! "Sorry!" Brody apologized in a hurry, stepping back just slightly. At least he had run into another person and not one of the displays…
