our memories are sceneries. 21ST DECEMBER 2024
VERONICA HAD ALWAYS hated looking like a complete muggle. It felt strange, to wear their garments, the classic clothing of hoodies, jeans…Things that the younger generation, Gabriel and even her son wore. Appearance had always been a big thing for the Ollivander, especially the thought of elegance. Without it and tradition…Who was she? Without a dress, or some form of a professional approach to her clothing, the eldest Ollivander knew she would have no seriousness to her life. But here she was, on the twenty-first in a deep blue over-sized hoodie and even black jeans. Disgusting.
Requesting a little favour from Gabriel to pick up her son from King’s Cross, she sat on the steps of their family home. While she had a home of her own, with Christmas’ eventual arrival, she thought it would be nice to spend some time with the family. As she waited, Veronica took the time to wedge a cigarette in between her fingers. She had always hated crowds, especially the ones at Kings Cross. It made her feel small and frail, a place she hated to find herself in, especially as it reminded her of her jealous past with Gal- Francis’ and their upbringing. But as an adult, closer to forty than ever, it became easier to not think of her brother. Unless Christmas was coming. She knew she would have to approach him eventually, as she didn’t feel the need to discuss plans with Gabriel, who was…A little to hyper for her likings when it came to topics such as family dinners for annual holidays. And Eleanor…Well. Eleanor hated Veronica. At least, the brunette had a gut feeling she did.
Flicking against the butt of her cigarette to rid herself of the useless ashes, Veronica exhaled nicotine smoke into the air as she waited for the two boys to arrive. Her son had been in Hogwarts since the start of the new term, enjoying fourth year or so she believed, but she was glad he appreciated his new wand that she had experimented with. Though this Christmas, the gifts she had for him came from a selection. To see his father, another experimental wand…Or something else, the last details had rid her mind. Maybe she wasn’t a bad mother after all. Gabriel on the other hand was easy to please, hence why Veronica preferred his company over the rest of her siblings.@gabriel & hopefully this works!

Gabriel was happy to pick up Gideon at the train station. For one, he was very close to his nephew in age and more. But also because he was just excited to see the old Kings Cross station. He was always happy when he was able to go there. He really enjoyed Hogwarts, and school in general. That was why he was still in a school now. He liked learning. His new school was entirely different, of course. Acting verses magic... Well, there were some similarities. Both took a good deal of emotion, as far as Gabriel's experience.
Once he had met up with Gideon the headed back and soon approaching Veronica on the steps. They were still a street down but they could see her. Gabriel waved in case she was looking up. "Hellooooo! We are here!" he called to her, Gideon at his side.

December 21st, 2024Gideon loved the holidays. A surprise to most, considering he carried himself more as a 'Scrooge' year round. Getting away from the snotty nosed kids at school and hanging out with his family was his favorite part of the holidays. The food, wand-talk, and family shenanigans were his favorite part. Gideon especially loved being a little instigator towards the adults when it came to petty fights with his mum and her siblings. It was infinitely entertaining fueling the fire.
This afternoon his uncle Gabriel accompanied him at Kings Cross station. Gideon knew how much his mother hated the hustle and bustle of the station... Plus, it was a lot cooler having his uncle pick him up rather than his mother anyways, so he was fine with that. Gabriel was easily one of his favorite people, so it was an added bonus. They arrived at their street in Godric's Hollow and Gideon's nostrils were greeted with repulsive cigarette smoke as they started across the street. Gabe announced their arrival, his mother posted on the steps as they quickly closed the distance between them. "And heeere she is!" his nose immediately shot upwards into the air, flaring to smell the air, "Smellin' like a bloody ash tray, mum! Yuck." he declared with a scrunched nose as he tsk'ed at her, for only a nano second.
Gideon was more excited to see his mother than anything, so he shook his head at her with an angelic expression, offering her an innocent smile, dropping his suitcase onto the front steps of their home and crashing into her with a hug. "Mummy!" he gushed, squeezing her. veronica giselle ollivander @gabriel

our memories are sceneries. RESTING UP ON THE STAIRS OF the family home was best for Veronica considering the view it provided of the long road as well as the quietness of it all. Right wrist resting on her knee, light-blue like smoke faded into the air with every puff the Ollivander had taken while her left thumb tucked away between her teeth, nervously biting down on the finger-bed instead of her nail. It was a bad habit for the eldest to fall into, especially when deep in thought, but it hadn’t been one she had found a way to rid herself of. Eventually, with the sound of her brother turning the corner with her son, glazed eyes blinked profusely, while flicked ashes fell from the cigarette. ”Gabriel.” She acknowledged with a gentle nod. ”Thank you for bringing him home—” At this moment, Gideon had rushed for her, squeezing away as if they had been apart for years.
”—Again.” She added with a small smile. It had been Gabriel’s second going on third year he had picked up Gideon for her, considering the two both attended Hogwarts right up until her brother graduated. With her son now in her embrace, Veronica flicked at the cigarette again, throwing it to her shoe so it was easier to crush and rid of it. ”Hello dear.” She murmured, kissing the top of his head. Both hands fell to her son’s side, slightly pulling him away from her so she could have a good look at him. His looks presented the resemblance of his father, as much as she hated to admit it, but his tongue was just as sharp as her own. Her finger’s lifted, middle pressing into the thumb to form an O shape, while her other fingers rose. She flicked away at his forehead, a mischievous grin filling the corners of her lips.
”Mind your tone young man. Or you might have to stay with your father this Christmas.” It would be Gideon’s first time, staying with his father for longer than a few days, especially after the divorce. But he was still a child in her eyes, surely he wouldn’t understand their situation like she did.

Veronica greeted him with a thank you that was interrupted by Gideons hug. Gabriel grinned, waving it off, "'S no problem. Happy to. Gideons my best bud," he said, chuckling a little. He watched the two in their exchange about cigarettes and his father, his stomach a happy swarm of butterflies. He loved his mother, too, and he admired Veronica as a parent. Her ex didn't seem that bad to Gabriel, but he didn't really know the whole story. "So, should we head in for some ice cream or out?" he suggested with a wicked smile. It was a nice day, so there was really no reason not to enjoy a treat as a family. Well, as a part of the family. This was the part that he was the most comfortable with.

December 21st, 2024The flick to his forehead was rightfully earned so he took it without a flinch, only a smug smile. "Hm-Maybe he'll let me have a dog..." he countered, meeting his mother's gaze playfully with a slow forming shit eating grin before chuckling and offering her another squeeze. Gideon was joking like his mother was. He didn't want to stay with his dad as much as his mother didn't want him to, nothing against his dad, really. It would just be a little weird not having him around the house after the divorce. Gideon was happy to be returning home for winter break. Unlike most teenagers, he enjoyed time with his family. Nothing beat the glorious Ollivander Manor. It was all he knew as home and he missed it while he was away in Scotland with a castle full of snot nosed kids and hormone driven half adults. He didn't miss the shop as much because he was able to visit on Hogsmeade weekends, but he still had times when he wanted to be able to make wands and didn't have the tools at school. The wood work tools were considered weapons - come to find out his first year.
Gideon turned to his uncle, who mentioned ice cream. Now, he had his attention. "Whenever ice cream is an option, pretty sure I'm choosing ice cream.." he stated with a solid nod, suddenly feeling like one of those snot nosed kids. He hated feeling like a kid..but in the Ollivander family that was his role so he was used to it. Gideon looked back and forth at his mum and uncle.

our memories are sceneries. WITH HER LIPS TWITCHING AT her younger brother, her attention was drawn to her clinging son. The words that left his mouth were only met with her own scowling look, until he squeezed her. She rolled her eyes in response, her finger raising only to flick down upon his nose. ”I’m sure you can’t even convince your father to allow you to have a pet hamster Gideon. Besides, who would look after he or she while you’re attending Hogwarts? Us.” That was the main reason Veronica refused animals, she didn’t want another problem…or thing to care/worry for in the midst of her busy and stressful schedules. Being a competitive store owner and wand maker was enough trouble as it was.
At Gabriel’s mention of ice cream, Veronica’s eyes squeeze closed, especially since Gideon looked up like an interested puppy. ”I don’t believe the elves are finished with the dinner arrangements for this evening nor is Eleanor around so…” She sighed, raising her hand to pinch the inner bridge of her nose. ”I suppose ice cream in the town seems to be a fair choice.” Before both of the kids could get excited before her, the eldest Ollivander raised a hand. ”But only enough so we’re not drastically full before dinner tonight. We still have to discuss arrangements for the Christmas dinner.” She added, looking upon her brother.
Holding Gideon by his side, Veronica rose, trying to force a smile on her lips as she looked down at him and back at her brother. ”Well. Shall we be off then? I hear the new flavours seem to be exceptional.”

Gideon suggested that his father would let him get a puppy, an idea which Veronica quickly shot down with an argument about a hamster.Gabriel chuckled and stopped quickly, eyes wide, so that Veronica wouldn't chastise him for doing so. He had to comment, "well, I mean, I like hamsters and dogs. Though, I don't think my place allows pets..." he reached over to clap a hand on Gideons back, "you're on your own, Gideon," he said with a sigh.
Gideon agreed that ice cream was in order and Veronica gave a rather lengthy response as to agreeing with them as well. She suggested they go into town for the ice cream while the house elves finished with Dinner and Gabriel clapped his hands together, starting to walk. "All this talk of dinner is making me excited. Christmas Dinner is sure to be a riot this year," he suggested, thinking about the fact that his older brother was back. He didn't think bringing up the name would be the best idea for the moment, though. "Also, Ronnie," he teased, "can I stay for dinner tonight? I hope Eleanor kept her hands away from the food," he joked. He and Nel always messed with each other.

December 21st, 2024As his uncle clapped him on the back, he sighed, "Hamsters are stupid." Gideon stated with a scrunched nose. "They have more use for potions." he stated morbidly, meant to be taken as a dark joke. Rats, mice, and other creatures were used for potions, not hamsters or other gerbils. Traditionally, at least.
Mum agreed to ice cream, which caused Gideon to nod in approval. When Gabe mentioned Aunt Eleanor touching the food, Gideon shot a look at both his moth and uncle, "Uh. We should just do ice cream for dinner if Nell touched anything." he stated with an intense seriousness, swallowing at the idea. As much as they joked about Eleanor being a horrible cook, Gideon just liked to make fun of people. He didn't really think it was that bad. Nothing beat a home cooked meal during the holidays, with an extra side of family drama and spilt tea.

our memories are sceneries. ROLLING HER EYES, VERONICA KNEW Gabriel would say something as silly as what he said. Even though he was a part of the adulting world now at the young age of twenty, Gabriel would always be a child at heart. ”If you like something, go and get it.” Veronica said with a shrug. Sure, when she was twenty she was still searching the world for a place of her own, but pets were truly on the last thing on her mind. She wanted a small home back then, but all she could seem to afford was rubbish studios. God how she hated the cities in England. Veronica grinned then, especially as Gabriel clapped his hand on his back. And Gideon’s input only made the eldest Ollivander more happier. Pets should be the last thing on anyones mind. They posed no importance, or responsibility, especially since Gideon would only look after the pet during his break times from Hogwarts. Maybe when he had a house of his own, or even a budding family, then he could buy whatever he pleased. But under Veronica’s roof, no. pets. allowed. ”Indeed they are.” She said, voicing her own opinion. ”They’re like mice and rats. Only have a mind of their own and care for food.”
The talk of dinner was one Veronica feared most, especially with the huge families’ annual Christmas dinner on an uprise. With the three of them walking, Gideon and Gabriel spoke amongst themselves, with Gabriel bringing up how Christmas Dinner would be different this year. ”A riot I wish to avoid…” She muttered. Especially if Francis agreed to accompany them. Mother and Father continuously spoke about Francis’ presence at the Dinner, which was not odd at all, considering he lived with the elder Ollivander’s anyway. It wasn’t pleasing stepping into the family home sometime in the early mornings and seeing her younger brother, but he thankfully had a job he put most of his attention in. ”Sure. Though today I don’t believe…Eleanor will be there.” At least she hoped not. Veronica looked down at Gideon, her hand raising so she could flick at his nose. ”Your aunt Eleanor doesn’t cook. Ever. That’s what the elves are for.” Veronica hated when Gideon referred to the younger female as Nell. Why tarnish such a good traditional name for a nickname like Nell? ”The ice cream is just a snack. Dinner is at seven.”

Veronica suggested that if he want something he should just go and Gabe just knit his eyebrows together. "I guess... I could do that," he said slowly. He didn't feel entirely grown up due to the fact that he was still in school, even if it wasn't Hogwarts. Gabriel was entirely un-surprised when his nephew said that hamsters were better for potions, and Gabe laughed a little. Veronica agreed with her son, saying how they only cared for food. Gabe nodded, shrugging a little. He honestly hadn't cared that much for potions, but he was not shocked that the intellectuals got to talking about it simply because a hamster was mentioned.
Veronica muttered something in reference to dinner, but he didn't quite catch what she said. He knew better than to bother her with asking, though. If she wanted to be heard, she would be. Thankfully he was welcome for dinner, and Nell would not be there. She corrected Gideon on using Nells nickname, and Gabe felt a little guilty. Was Gideon not allowed to use nicknames or something? Well, Veronica didn't, so that wasn't a big shocker. Of course, elves. "Great, let's get going," Gabe said, chipper as ever, leading the way.

December 21st, 2024Gideon couldn't help but chuckle when his mum corrected his use Aunt Nell's name. He knew how much it struck a nerve when he used so-called 'nicknames', but Eleanor was an old lady name. He was doing his sweet Auntie a favor. Gideon was excited to return home for the holiday. He enjoyed being at the manor with his family, and doing whatever he wanted, working on wands whenever he wanted. Usually he'd travel with his mum during holidays but this year they were staying home. Gideon didn't mind that.
Within a few moments, the ice cream parlor could be seen down the bustling cobble stone street. The heavenly smell of waffle cones wafted into his nostrils, sending the corners of his lips to curl into a smile. Gideon rushed to open the door for his mum and uncle, the bell chimed above his head. Gideon gestured for them to walk in, "Age before beauty now..." he sang merrily with a smirk, more for his mums reaction. It had been a while.
