Rory laughed as Alyra did an impression of her parents. "That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I think the only times I got told that were when I was with you." He was teasing, but at the same time it was kind of true. Rory was always a calm child, doing the things he felt like he should. Most of his moved were planned and calculated. Maybe it wasn't really normal behavior, but it was how he behaved, unless he was with his best friend. He nodded when she mentioned Mazie liking to meet her friends. Rory noticed the hesitation, but didn't say anything. He didn't want to make Alyra feel awkward at all. "Well, maybe we'll find a time then," he answered, smiling. "Yeah, he's still in London. Same house as when you left." Then Rory rolled his eyes, "Of course he remembers you. He still asks about you, almost every time I go to see you." Rory's father knew what an influence the red-head had on Rory as a child. He knew the two still wrote, and he always asked about her. "Here's the place," he muttered, leading her into the small place. It wasn't as empty as normal, but it also wasn't super full. Exactly what he wanted. "You're hungry right?" he asked as the host led them to a table. It wasn't a fancy place, but good enough for this, Rory thought.

Lee laughed at his comment in reply to her own. He only got told off about being impulsive when he was with her. That made sense. He wasn’t exactly the wild and crazy type. She wasn’t as much anymore either, but it was still a little part of her. “Well, luckily I’ve grown up a bit.” she smirked. She nodded when he said they’d find a time to meet Mazie. She wanted them to meet, but she kind of wanted to be able to get to know him again on her own first, before she brought her little sister into it. Rory admitted that his father still asked about her a lot and a little smile crossed Lee’s face. “That’s sweet of him.” she admitted. It really was. But her parents hadn’t forgotten about Rory either, through the years. But they didn’t ask about him as regularly. They also had other kids to think about and care for so Lee wasn’t their top priority. They got to the place and he lead her inside, asking if she was hungry. Lee nodded her head. It was a little place, nothing fancy, but it smelled pretty good, she was glad to be able to relax and eat a meal honestly for the first time since she arrived 2 days ago. She sat down across from him at their little table and looked over the menu.

Merlin, he still loved her laugh. When they were kids there were times when Rory would do something silly just so he could hear her laugh and he was learning tonight that he would still be willing to do the same thing. He quirked an eyebrow at her. "Oh, you have? Not too much though, I hope," Rory teased. He wouldn't change a thing about her. If she didn't get into as much trouble, he would be okay with that, but he hoped that she still didn't mind messing around sometimes. He shrugged when Alyra mentioned that it was sweet of his father to still ask about her. He didn't have anything to say about that though. He looked at the menu and then ordered his food before turning his attention back to Alyra. "So, you're here to help with the Azkaban breakout?" he asked, wanting to clarify and make sure he'd heard right. He just didn't know what else to ask her, really.

He teased her about growing up and hoping that she hadn’t grown up too much, it brought a smile to her face, a real one. He was just as she remembered. A shy guy, but with a great sense of humor, at least she thought he had a great sense of humor. He had been one of the funniest people she knew, all through her schooling she hadn’t met anyone who made her laugh as much as he had during their first 8 years of life. The only thing that had changed was how tall he was, and his jawline, which was a lot more manly, more chiseled now. They were both a lot less baby faced. “Yeah, I think I told you I was in law enforcement.” she explained. Of course she couldn’t say that she was an Auror. “And then I got promoted to detective a few years back. Well, actually, I was an Auror for the MACUSA and got promoted to an Investigator.” she told him. “And I’m pretty good at my job, so when the breakout happened a few days ago, they shipped me out that night. I’m here until it’s fixed.” she admitted. She couldn’t imagine Rory knew anything about the incident more than any other person did. She couldn’t imagine he was involved. Why would anyone be involved in that?

Rory loved making her smile. Her smile was bright and cheerful, like the sun and it really just made him happy. He listened as she explained a little more abut her job, chuckling and nodding when she started off by saying that she told him she was in law enforcement. Yup. He thought she was a policewoman or something like that. He'd even looked up what they called the law enforcement over in America. "So what's the difference between an Auror and an Investigator?" Maybe it was a stupid question, but Rory had no idea. Didn't Auror's investigate? Or were investigators just higher up on the list than aurors? "So they want you here to catch everyone that got out?" Part of Rory worried for her. While he knew that Alyra was strong and smart and extremely capable, he didn't want her to get hurt. He just wanted her to be safe, but that was silly of him. "Well, if you ever need help from a healer, I hope you reach out to me," he suggested, mostly because he wanted to support her. He wanted to be her first choice if she needed help.

Rory asked what the difference was between an auror and an investigator and Lee went into explaining pretty easily. “It’s like the difference between a muggle police officer and a detective.” she explained, if he knew anything about that. She didn’t know whether he did. “So an investigator is higher, usually I oversee a team of aurors and it means I’m more into solving...mysteries I guess, and, well, investigating into things. Where are aurors are usually just those who enforce laws and do the...dirty work.” it was kind of hard to explain her job, she realized. “So here I have a team of a mixture of foreign aid aurors, and some from the ministry, who are helping me.” he then offered that if she ever needed help, she should let him know. “I will.” she promised. “So how’s being a healer, then?” she asked. She knew he worked in medicine, but she figured he was a doctor. He still was, sort of, she supposed.

Rory listened carefully as she explained the differences, understanding her reference to muggle police officers and detectives, but still appreciating her explaining the magical side of things too. "How big is your team over here?" he asked curiously. Was she in charge of a lot of people or just a few. Then he chuckled, "Why am I not surprised that you like to solve mysteries for your job?" It definitely seemed like something she would love to do, especially remembering all the "mystery" games they played as children. He liked hearing about what she was up to and smiled when she agreed to reach out to him if she needed a healer. "I'm going to hold you to that," he said, holding up a pointer finger at her. She asked about him being a healer and Rory grinned. "I love it. I'm a mediwizard, which means that I'm the one they call when something happens outside of the hospital. Attacks and accidents, all sorts of things." He shrugged, the seriousness of his job bringing the attitude down a little. "It's serious stuff, but I love being able to help people and save lives." That was why he loved his job.
A waiter came by, asking for his order. Rory gave his and gestured for Alyra to give her own. This place was normally pretty fast when it came to getting the food out, but he wasn't worried about that at all.

“I currently have about 5 individuals on my team. Most of them are from the MACUSA.” she told him when he asked, she wasn’t sure why he wanted to know, but she was confident in telling him. “There might be more if other countries send in aid.” she added. She laughed again when he said he wasn’t surprised that she liked to solve mysteries for her job. “Some things never change.” she winked. It was true though. Lee, while a grown up woman now, was still the same, strong spirited little girl. He started to explain that he was actually a mediwizard, which she didn’t know. She had assumed he was a healer. “Oh that’s awesome. So you must be good under pressure then.” she commented. That was impressive. Though it didn’t really surprise her about him. He was calm and collected. She could barely remember a time when he hadn’t been. “Yeah. I feel that way too.” Lee nodded about being able to help people and save lives. She had saved at least a few lives in her years in law enforcement, but in a different way.

Rory nodded as she explained that she had about five people on her team right now, but that she might get more. That was cool. It was neat that she felt so comfortable directing a semi-large group of people. Sure, Rory was getting to the point where he was considered one of the more senior mediwizards, so he had his fair share of directing others as well, but it wasn't his job to do so. He smirked when she winked, telling him some things never changed. "Good," he told her with a firm nod. He didn't want that to change about Mazie. He shrugged when Alyra mentioned that he was good under pressure, though he knew it was true. He'd seen other healers not able to stay with the mediwizards because of the stress and pressure of the job. "Yeah, I do pretty well with it," he admitted. Then he grinned, "I guess we both like to do the same thing in our own way," Rory pointed out.
After they'd both ordered, they continued with a little small talk until the food came. Like normal, it came quickly so Rory barely felt like he had to wait at all. "Prepare yourself, this food is really good," Rory told her confidently. This was one of his favorite places to come for a bite to eat when he had the time. There was a reason for that. "Go ahead," he gestured for Lee to eat first, wanting to see her first reaction to her food before he started to eat.

“yeah I guess we go.” Lee modded when Rory said that it seemed like they both liked helping people and saving lives in their own way. She couldn’t get into a lot of the stories from her job, due to confidentiality. And she was sure he couldn’t either for the same reason. But maybe one day they’d be able to talk about it all. She’d love to hear his success stories. It was kind of attractive, actually: thinking of him taking charge and taking care of people.
Pretty sure their food was brought to the table and Rory insisted that it was really good food. She was glad he liked this place, it made her a lot more excited to try it. He insisted that she went first and he was going to wait for her. Lee picked up her fork and cut into her chicken pasta dish. “Ooh this is delicious.” She agreed after taking a bite.

Rory liked having yet another connection with Alyra. It was different since they hadn't seen one another in so long, but he wanted to move past the awkwardness and enjoy being with her again. He wanted their friendship to strengthen ... maybe for something stronger to form there too. If she wanted.
He laughed when she started eating and admitted that the food was great. "I told you, Alyra. They have great food here." He took a bite of his own food, enjoying it like normal. He ate a little more before talking with her, "So do they have you in the middle of searching for the escapees then or are they still briefing you on stuff?" Rory didn't know how quickly investigations like this moved along, but he was a little curious.

Rory seemed glad that she liked the food and he also continued to call her by her full name, which was weird, she never was called Alyra by people who knew her. But for some reason she didn’t mind it when Rory called her by it. It seemed really sweet coming out in his voice. It was kind of endearing actually. She hadn’t remember him being this cute. He then started asking more about her job. “I’m already working on it.” It had only taken a day for her to be briefed on the situation, since the situation was so recent there wasn’t a lot that they knew, or at least, that they let on that they knew. Lee has heard rumors around, but she couldn’t exactly base her investigation on rumors. “I can imagine you were busy with the dragons. Were you there?” She asked, instantly feeling a little worried that he had been.

It made sense that she already knew what she was doing. It wasn't like the auror office had tons of information about all the escaped prisoners, except for their backgrounds. Part of him was curious about how you found someone who was likely very good at hiding and who definitely would be doing everything they could to not be caught, but he also wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to go into so much depth with it yet. "Do you have any leads on it then?" he asked. He smiled when she mentioned the dragons, shaking his head almost instantly. Was that concern he heard in her voice. "No, I was on duty at the time, so I wasn't at the festival when the attack started. I was one of the first people on the scene though. I didn't fight dragons, I focused on helping people I found that were hurt." There had been no shortage of those. "I found one boy with a dislocated shoulder and a bad concussion. He had a girl crying over him." He didn't know why he told Alyra this. It wasn't confidential or anything, since he hadn't mentioned the kid's name, but seeing the young girl's obvious concern had really touched him more than usual.

“a few.” Lee nodded when he asked about her leads. “I can’t talk about it too much.” she admitted, knowing that he would understand since he also had to keep things confidential with his patients. Lee couldn’t go around telling everyone everything that the ministry knew about the escape and the location of the prisoners now. Rory admitted that he wasn’t there for the attack and Lee let herself take a breath. She had been oddly worried for a second. But she was glad to hear that he hadn’t been there. “that’s awful. I feel so bad for those poor children. I’m so glad you were there to help them. I can imagine there are hundreds of people who are thankful for you.” she hadn’t meant to feather his ego, but it was true. She started to feel softer towards him while thinking about him in that sort of hero role.

Rory was definitely impressed when Lee admitted that they already had a few leads, but that she couldn't really talk about it. That made sense. "Well, I'm glad you've got stuff to do then," he answered, not pushing for more information. Honestly, having leads was a good thing, he thought. Sitting around waiting for work or doing paperwork was the least favorite part of his job. Knowing Alyra, he doubted she'd like that much. He nodded when she said that she felt bad for the kids he talked about. "Yeah. I mean, I checked up on them. The kid was fine. They let him go with his family later, and the girl wasn't injured so I'm sure she was okay too, though definitely worried for a bit." He hated seeing people like that. Hated attacks like this that made his job necessary, even though he loved helping people. He smiled over at Alyra when she said she was sure hundreds of people were thankful for him. "As I'm sure just as many are thankful for you," he answered. "We both just want to help people." They only did it in different ways, which made complete sense.
