Adrian had plenty of moments where he said or did something and left Lily slightly puzzled, and this was another one of those ones. Her teasing, revolving around calling him a puppy and running her finger down his neck, would normally have him all jittery and red-faced. That was why she liked doing that to him. It was cute and he always played right along to whatever she was doing to him, whether he knew it or not. Right now though, she was absolutely perplexed by his response. Normally she would have probably fallen to the ground and started hysterically laughing at him, but the way he dropped his voice and asked her if he needed more training had her at a loss for words for once. It was definitely a rare moment for her. “If…If that’s what you want, then yes,” she finally muttered, still startled by the surprise in her voice.

Thankfully Lily had lined up her joke about werewolf grooming, and she escaped her sudden confusion. She joined in with the laughing, and then got as serious of a look on her face as she could manage without snorting through her nose at every word, “What do you think they already talk about? You missed a few months Adrian, the rumors were absolutely flying through the corridors.” That was a white lie of course, but it would make him squirm a little bit and beg her to explain more about it. When it came to personal werewolf hygiene, Lily had no problem with blabbering on and on about the side effects and what happened during the full moon. The more people knew about their kind, the better. Right?

“So get up there and request the song, champ. It’s all you,” Lily spun him around and gave him a wink with an accompanying smack to the back. “If not, you’ll be forever known as ball-breath in the annals of Hogwarts.” She made sure to say it as loudly as possible as their previously requested song wound down and a new one started up. The next step was to get the attention of her new DJ friend so that he could take Adrian’s request.

Adrian instantly felt a sense of pride at her response and almost forgot that he was the one with the power for a second. It wasn't easy to stump Lily, but when he did it felt like he held the world in his hands. He kept his smile soft, though, not wanting to overdo the cockiness of having gotten that reaction out of her. There was surprise in her voice and in her eyes. He nodded at what she muttered, stepping in even closer. Basically there wasn't a lot more room to get closer now, at least not on a dance floor full of people. He was going to ride this wave, though. He brought his lips down to her ear, "I'll do whatever you say, you know that," he promised, his voice still in that low, almost growl like tone.

Once the confusion had broken, she basically told him that his comments were useless because the rumors about them were already spread and well on their way. Especially the months while he was gone... which did in fact make him squirm. He pursed his lips, squeezing her hand protectively as he looked around the dance room full of classmates. "Alright, whose ass am I kicking?" he asked, but then he smirked and turned back to her, "was it good gossip, at least? Or did they just focus on the abandonment part?"

She was telling him to go up and request the song and he gave into the spin she through him into. The smack on the back was a nice touch. "Okay, okay. Fine. But afterward," he turned to face her and lifted one hand in the 'finger gun' gesture, "we're bailing this dance," he spoke loudly too, "and you can boss me around somewhere a little more private."

“Oh, you know. Just the usual rumor mill people. Me, Myself, and I,” Lily flashed a grin at him. As far as she knew, there had been a few questions about his absence for the first couple of weeks and that was almost only within Gryffindor. She wasn’t running around the castle screaming her head off that he had up and left her, like she had seen some students do following break-ups (and she still didn’t know if that was what the break was or not). “What I’m more interested in is seeing what sort of gossip your American friends have about you. I haven’t been able to pry anything out of them yet. Thick as thieves, all of them!” And simultaneously, she almost didn’t want to know what he said about her at Ilvermorny, if he did at all. Getting beyond those thoughts was what doing all of this right now was about. So far, she liked to think that it was sort of working.

Tossing thumbs up in agreeance as Adrian finally agreed to request the song, she whistled as loud as she could from behind his back. Leaving wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, this wasn’t exactly their kind of scene to begin with, and the fanciness certainly went against what she was normally into. Plus all the food was miniature sized. Lily wanted real food now, after their couple of brief dances. And this was New York City after all! She had never had the chance to really explore the city before, so what better time than now?

Lily said that she was the one who started rumors about him... which was not surprising in the least. He rolled his eyes, smirking at the thought of her spreading a rumor about him and then acting all said and shocked once it got back to her. It was definitely a game that she would play, unless she was just messing with him now... which was also a game that she would play. That was why he liked her. But at the mention of her wanted to get info from the Americans... his face paled. "I... there's nothing to see there," okay, so he did have one... or two make out buddies throughout his semester there but it was never anything serious just... plain boredom. Still, he was sure she'd understand that. Right?

Adrian approached the DJ yet again, rolling his eyes as she whistled from behind him. He leaned up to the DJ and requested the song, but not without adding a little message to go with it. The DJ made a face, but did it anyway. "Uhh, this next song is dedicated to 'the queen of the shiba enus'. whatever that means," he looked at Adrian for confirmation and Adrian nodded, giving the DJ a thumbs up before turning to Lily with a wink. Comparing her to a tiny, cute, ginger-haired dog? Classic.

The look on his face when she teased about asking the Ilvermorny students about him wasn’t the kind she wanted to see, and Lily stared at him for a second, before breaking into her normal grin again. It wasn’t like she owned him, after all. If the break had been a break, who was she to judge? Her own spring term and summer may have been awful but it wasn’t like he was supposed to be the same way. All of those worries were supposed to be gone now, and she laughed at him as she gave him another push towards the DJ. “Okay, okay. Mr. Secrets over here. Your accent won’t buy you any brownie points anymore now that they’re at Hogwarts!” she called after him as he approached the DJ stand. Not that she was watching over him every waking moment of the day, now that he was back, but she hadn’t seen any other girls swarming around him since the Ilvermorny students arrived. As far as she was concerned, he was all hers again, as long as that was fine with him.

Lily bounced on her toes to the current song as she waited for Adrian to put his request in and for the DJ to acknowledge it. From what she could tell where she was standing, it seemed like it worked. The poor DJ probably felt bad for Adrian after the last request and threw him a bone for this one. Especially with the announcement he put out before the song started playing. “So…since I’m the queen, that makes you the dog right?” she asked him, leaning on his shoulder. “I always pictured you as a big old German Shepherd, Adrian. I didn’t know you viewed yourself as a tiny little Shiba Inu.” She knew what he was trying to do, but it was funnier to turn it back around on him. Not that shibas weren’t fun dogs. The few she had stopped to pet were always full of personality and smart as heck. That could fit Adrian just as much as a German Shepherd would.
