So, River had asked Lucy out. After the whole dragon fiasco he felt like he could talk to her a little easier. He sent her a letter, asking her to join him at the New Years Eve Party at the Fontaines in New York. She had agreed, and he waited for her outside the Leaky Cauldron, the invitation portkey in hand. He hoped she wouldn't be late, considering the portkey would take off at a certain time. He wore a baby blue suit without a tie, the first two buttons undone on his black shirt. He went with blue because of his house, Ravenclaw, plus it really made his eyes stand out. He shook his head for thinking about that so hard. But he was on a date, wasn't he? As he waited, he ran over his conversation with Vi just a few days before... "It's just a party with some American students, if you wanted to go," he suggested, expecting her to say no. Kind of hoping she would. She shook her head, "why in the f*** would I be interested in some American party where everyone just gets wasted?" her voice was harsh and then she sighed, shaking her head, "River, just take someone else. I don't care," she said more softly. He raised an eyebrow at her, "have I been that obvious?"
She was silent for a moment and then nodded, "I just know you, okay? And I know that you're happy with this for whatever reasons, and I am too. We have a good arrangement here," she sounded honest, "but I don't think we should take any small chance at happine... a good time off the table. So go, and don't think about me. I'll make my own plans." So this was their marriage. River shook his head, his eyes on the invitation. Was he tearing up a little? No, he shook his shoulders to shake it off. @lucyweasley

Lucy had been asked on a date with a married man. It was literally an everyday occurance for her. At first, she had thought maybe River found out about her secret profession and was hiring her for the night to make his wife jealous or something, but that hadn’t been the case. Even if he was trying to make his wife jealous, he wasn’t trying to pay for her attention, he actually wanted it. So she had agreed to go with him. He was nice to be around, at least she didn’t have to pretend around him. He knew her better than most of her family members knew her, and still then he barely knew her.
Lucy dressed in a strapless little black dress. Her green eyes and her red hair popped against the tone of the dress, she liked to play up those features, as well as the curve of her body, which her dress certainly did. She wore an emerald green scarf over her shoulders to protect her from the English winter around them. After apparating to the Leaky Cauldron, she turned around the corner and saw him standing there in his blue suite, lit by the street lamps. “Hey there.” Lucy smirked as she walked up to him. “You clean up well.” she teased, but she meant it.

'Hey', her voice reached him and he turned toward her. He wasn't surprised that she was a knock out in that black dress and green shawl. He also wasn't surprised at the style of her dress either. It was fitting for her and for a New York New Years Eve party "Thank you. So do you, of course," he suggested. He held the invitation out to her, "it's a portkey so it'll take us there in a few minutes," he explained, so she could grab hold.
"Thanks again for coming with me. Big parties are... Not really my thing, but I'm trying to see the bright side," he gestured to her, "looks like I found it, right?" it was an attempt at a joke but also a compliment at the same time. He had a feeling she was much more comfortable with crowds than he was. Even though she kept quiet sometimes he knew that she could hold her own.

He handed her the invitation to grab onto also, saying that it was a portkey and would take off in a few minutes. She touched the paper, holding it gently. Portkeys had always given her a bit of a hard time, but she was determined to have a graceful landing this time. They were going to a party after all. She had to make a good impression on the people that she didn’t know. Lucy hadn’t actually been invited to the party, she didn’t know the hosts and she wasn’t a student anymore. “Well you’re in luck then.” Lucy smirked when he said that big parties weren’t his thing. She wasn’t a big fan of being at the party with strangers, however, at least they were better than the muggles that she usually was paid to hang out with at these parties. “I’m a professional party attendee.” she teased.

She said he was in luck and a smirk took place on her face. He tilted his head to one side slightly, as he waited for her explanation. She said she was a professional party attendee, and he leaned back a little, surprised. "Wait, really? That's a thing? He was sure that maybe some higher end clubs hired people to come stand in line to make their club look interesting, is that what she meant? Either way, it was a pretty cool job, and one that he could not do. He really was in luck to have her, professional party attendee or not. If he didn't have her with him he wouldn't have gone to this party at all. He wasn't that into parties, but he was excited to see New York. The fact that a portkey could travel across continents seemed incredibly strange to him, but magic had always done some insane things that he didn't understand. Even having grown up with pureblood, magic still astounded him.
@lucyweasley (once she answers him the portkey will take off after she speaks)

River seemed interested in her comment, but he took it a different way that Lucy meant it, of course. That was kind of cute, he wasn’t expecting her to be an escort, and she didn’t blame him. She did well with her ‘good girl’ outer appearance. But he knew the real her more than most people did, he knew her dark side. “Um, no that’s not exactly what I meant...” she admitted with a giggle that rested back into the smirk on her colored red lips. Before she could explain what she really meant, or even really decide if she wanted to, the portkey lit up and then took off with them spinning along with it until they reached their destination.

She said that wasn't what she meant but before he could respond the portkey took off and they were suddenly gliding down to the mansion of the Fontaines. Rivers eyes widened at the site, and he placed the invitation in his pocket. "Well, here we are. America," he commented. He held an arm out to her, and soon they were in the mansion ballroom with everyone else. They were all dancing, drinking punch, laughing, talking about the possibility of fireworks. It was obvious people were pairing off to find their partner to kiss at midnight eventually. Oh no, River suddenly realized that he had invited Lucy to the one event in the world where a kiss was expected.
Did he want to kiss Lucy Weasley?
He cleared his throat, "well, I guess the first stop would be dancing or drinking... or exploring this mansion," he spoke. He raised an eyebrow at her, questioning which she'd prefer first.

America. Lucy had to admit, it wasn’t exactly a place she’d want to be or choose to spend her time. She had been out of England before and she liked Europe enough, but she wasn’t sure how much she cared to spend her time in North America. There wasn’t much going on over here. She liked being where she was, in London, the culture capital of the world. People were all around them here in the ballroom, drinking and dancing and talking. Lucy nearly regretted coming. She knew most of these people. This wasn’t like being at work. She’d see these people again. He asked what she wanted do to first by suggesting a few options. “Drinks sound good.” Lucy decided. She’d need something to get through this night. At least she had River. He was probably worth it.

She suggested drinks first and he nodded, leading her over toward the table. Once they had their drinks in hand he started to lead her around the room, looking at the people in the center dancing. "I'll be honest with you, Lucy. I'm not the greatest dancer, when it's... that," the song was an upbeat one and the teens were basically just mosh-pitting, but more... classically? Whatever that meant. River was trained in the Waltz, Salsa, even the Tango - all things ballroom, but he didn't do that upbeat kind of stuff, and he definitely didn't do the grinding. "I bet you can do every kind of dance, right?" he suggested taking a sip of the sparkling drink. He lowered his glass, his eyes turned toward her instead of the crowd. @lucyweasley

River was being incredibly adorable when he insisted that he wasn’t very good at that kind of dancing. Lucy shrugged her shoulders. She could dance like that if she wanted to, she supposed. But the key words were ‘wanted to’. Which she wasn’t sure that she did. She honestly felt a little out of place here. She was older than most. She was out of school. “not every kind.” she giggled. “Our parents taught us some traditional dances. And we’ve been studying Jazz, Character, and Ballet at the academy. Are you saying you want to dance or are you trying to get out of it?” She asked with a smirk.

She mentioned the kind of dancing she learned at the academy, then asked if he wanted to dance or was trying to get out of it. "I think... A little of both? Don't make me tap dance," he joked, shaking his head. Honestly, he kind of liked dancing when his partner didn't expect him to do anything crazy. Lucy could push him a little, but she didn't seem like she'd force him out of his comfort zone in a bad way... He sipped more of his drink, watching the other students and their dates. More often then not pairs were slipping out of the main room to check out the gardens or the upstairs. It was constant movement. @lucyweasley

Lucy gave a giggle when he asked her not to make him tap dance. “oh dang.” she teased. But of course she didn’t mind at all Lucy wasn’t exactly a musical theatre actor. And she couldn’t blame river for not wanting to be dragged into it. Even if he was teasing her. Lucy looked over at him and watched him watch the other couples. She felt like she had to ask. “why aren’t you here with your wife, River?” she knew their marriage wasn’t one they chose, but she had figured that asking another woman to a party while married was still a taboo, even if it wasn’t a loving marriage.

She wasn't really disappointed, as far as he could tell. Then, seemingly out of place, she asked why he wasn't there with his wife. He furrowed his brow for a second, eyes fixed on the couples instead of her. He took another sip, the last one, and once the drink was empty he lowered the glass, following the flute with his eyes so he was looking down toward the ground. "I asked, she said no," he said truthfully. He didn't want her to feel like a second choice, but he wasn't going to lie to her either. He looked over at her. "I don't mean to sound... weird, or anything, but we've decided we aren't interested in traditional monogamy," he felt his throat tighten a little with nerves and he cleared it. @lucyweasley

Lucy’s lips turned up into a smirk when he explained that he had asked his wife and she told him that she didn’t want to go with him. She wasn’t here at all. Lucy couldn’t remember exactly, but she felt like his wife was someone who she used to see at parties. He explained that they weren’t monogamous and Lucy nodded. What did she care? She was literally an escort. A hired date. But then the thought crossed her mind, he and his wife weren’t monogamous and he had asked her. Was this date more than friendly? A part of her had expected it might be, but she had kind of tried to ignore it. Now this seemed like confirmation. “And thus i find myself on a date with a married man.” She teased. “Do your families know about your thoughts on monogamy?” she was curious.

She nodded when he spoke, and didn't seemed freaked out by it all, which was... nice. A little odd, too. She mentioned that she was on a date with a married man and he felt his cheeks flush. She asked if his family had thoughts about monogamy and he furrowed his brow even more in thought. "Honestly, I don't think my parents cared that much as long as I pro-create," his eyes widened, "oh gods, that's - I mean, well, that's... not a lie," he shook his head. "They just wouldn't want me mingling with anyone who wasn't a pureblood," he said that last part softly, not wanting to offend anyone around him who may not be. "My brother Liam definitely wouldn't approve of me being interested in someone other than Viovinnia," his eyes widened again. "I mean - not that he'd be rude - well, he might just try to talk me out of it. My sisters are... un- involved," wow. He was super honest right now. What was in that drink? @lucyweasley
