The day of their engagement party had arrived. The Fudges really had made sure that Madam Puddifoot’s was perfect, Priscilla thought. Rather than the snug café that it usually was, it was perfect for the occasion. She hadn’t seen Riley’s parents yet, but she would have to thank them for their efforts. Everything was beyond her wildest imagination, and the entire school would be there for her and Riley. She had been betrothed to him since the end of August, but the excitement was palpable again. It was a celebration, with her and Riley at the center. Her mother and sisters, whom she hadn’t seen since the holidays, were already at the tearoom when she arrived into Hogsmeade from the school.
She had kept a cloak over her dress robes to keep them hidden from view until she could make her entrance into the party itself, but she quickly shed it once she was hurried off to the back where she could finish getting ready away from where Riley or their guests could see her primping.
“Prissy, darling, I thought you were going to plait your hair?” her mother tutted.
“Mummy, there wasn’t time. I’ve been up since five o’clock, as it is,” Priscilla pouted, taking a seat at the stool that had been set in front of a mirror so that she could finish her makeup. She had to have everything exactly as she had envisioned it; surely her mother knew that. “I was thinking I’d leave it down, pin it back at the front…”
“Honestly? She looks fine, Mum.”
“Have you got the lipstick I asked for?” Looking around for any sign of a makeup case, Priscilla’s expression turned into a frown. Her mother and sisters had brought no shortage of makeup and other styling items with them, just in case she needed any of them.
“Which one? You’ve only asked for ten different shades over the past week…”
“Mummy! Make her stop!” Priscilla protested, whining. Couldn’t her sisters just be happy for her on her special day? If this was how it was going to be for her engagement party, it would only be ten times more pressure on her wedding day.
“That’s enough. It’s right there, behind the Sleekeazy's.”
“Thank you, Mummy. Potion Pink!” It looked excellent on, too: a sheer sheen on her lips more than a considerable concentration of color. It wouldn’t stick to anything or show up on her teeth, the way a red shade might have. “Oh, it’s perfect!” she squealed, smirking because she had gotten what she had wanted. Hopefully Lydia would get there soon. She couldn’t wait to show her and the rest of the members of the SPMH.
