The last thing Daniel wanted to do was go do Gilderoy’s Valentine’s Day ball. Not only wasn’t he much of Valentine’s Day type person he also couldn’t stand Gilderoy. He had tried to welcome him to Hogwarts his first year hear if that’s what one could call it. It was more just Gilderoy talking about himself. Daniel quickly found an excuse to leave and had avoided him ever since. Which was partly hard because they shared some of the same classes. A party hosted by Gilderoy just sounded as bad as might in his head. Even the invitation to the party just seemed like he was full of himself even when trying to not make it that.
He could have avoided the whole party too if it weren’t for Zen asking if he was going and explaining she was wanted to go. He took this as a sign that she wanted someone to go with or she might not go at all. Daniel asked if she wanted to go with him hiding his contempt to the Lockhart boy. Being around Zen had always been fun just like their blind date and the night they recently snuck out after curfew. He could put up with anything Gilderoy related for her.
As Daniel got ready for the ball it wasn’t much help that he didn’t own any fancy clothes. It wasn’t like he had much opportunity to be fancy for anything. He was either in uniform or just bumming around in casual type close. Which was probably what he would have worn if he wasn’t sure Zen would more than likely be dressed. As much as he didn’t care how he looked he didn’t care for Zen being disappointed. Thankfully anything was possible with magic and with a few attempts, one of his older sets of clothes were changed into a fancy suit. The mask, on the other hand, he didn’t know what do do. It hadn’t seen many masquerade masks before. Still, he decided on making it look like something he had seen in the past with his No-Maj friends back home.
Agreeing to meet a little after the party started Daniel waited outside the Ravenclaw common room. It just made it easier to meet up with Zen as the masks would have stopped them from knowing one another in the Great Hall. If they even worked, Daniel knew how much talk Gilderoy really was.
