Penelope really, really wasn’t thrilled by how many times she’d heard her fellow students mention Boggart encounters lately. Everyone seemed to be a bit unnerved at the thought of running into one somewhere, and she had managed to avoid it so far. She was preparing herself, though, for the possibility, which she guessed was better than being the first person who had run into a Boggart without expecting it lately. At least she had some forewarning, not that she knew when or where she would end up coming face to face with one. That almost made things worse, though she vividly remembered her Boggart from the last time she had had to get rid of one for Defence Against the Dark Arts class. It had been as though she was looking at a mirror image of herself, except she had been calling out her siblings’ names and getting nowhere… None of them had answered her—not Dustin, Diana, Cara, Kinsey, Peyton, or Persephone.
She kept her wand illuminated as she read through the final pages of the book that she needed to finish in time for class the next morning, glad that she would get back to her dormitory well before curfew to finish up the last of the assignments she had to get done. The book itself hadn’t been too interesting, and Penelope wasn’t sure how much of it she had actually retained. Oh well. She just hoped that she wouldn’t get called on in class to answer anything about it.
Sighing, she shut the book closed and gathered her belongings up from the table at which she had been sitting. Wand still lit, she walked the book back towards its proper shelf, not far from the Restricted Section. That must have been what was causing a slight rustling noise, she thought, trying to calm her fears of anything but. There were supposedly all sorts of books back in there that had been enchanted in various ways—she wouldn’t have been surprised if there were a few that were looking for ways to get out of the confines of their shelves.

Dom wasn't too concerned about the Boggarts. He knew that he could defeat them with the spell used in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Still, he didn't want anyone else SEEING his Boggart. In all honesty, it had probably changed since the last time he saw one in class. He wasn't ready to see what it was now. The last time, his Boggart was a version of himself who couldn't use magic. A squib, like his brother. But as Alexander had grown up, Dom's fears had changed... He was in the library, reading for History of Magic when he heard someone close a book on the other side of the aisle. He looked up, seeing Penelope walking past to put a book away. He smirked, closing his own book and following her. But his walk slowed when he heard the rustling sound as well. He slowly crept up next to her, lighting his own wand when he was close enough for her to see it. "What is that?" he asked, too distracted to mess with her. penelope raisa bainbridge

Penelope didn't notice that Dominic Dippet had been sitting along the same aisle in the library as she, even as she passed by him. She heard the book that he was reading—although unaware that it was his—but only turned when she heard someone trailing her. Even with the sound of the footsteps behind her, however, whatever that other noise was had not stopped. He wasn't doing anything to mess with her, the way he sometimes teased her—good-naturedly, she thought, but still.
Dominic moved from behind her to beside her, though. Clearly, he had heard the noise, too, and Penelope noticed that he illuminated his own wand. "What is that?" he asked. At least, she realized, she couldn't have been hearing things.
"I… don't know," Penelope answered. She didn't want to say what she thought it was, just in case he thought that she was being silly for worrying about a potential Boggart, but she turned her eyes towards Dominic. "…Just one of the books in the Restricted Section, right?"

She suggested it was just a book in the restricted section and he shook his head. "Not unless they got a new book. I always sit over here and hear all kinds of stuff. Not that," he furrowed his brows together. He took a step forward, so he was more in front of her. "Just don't move for a second," he commanded harshly. He took another step forward, and that's when the image of his little brother stepped out from between the shelves. Doms face paled, he knew there was no way Alex was really at the school. That had to be a Boggart. Alex tilted his head to the side and then raised a wand. He flicked it, creating an amazing flourish of light and color in the air in front of them until a painting like shape of Hogwarts castle appeared in front of them. Dom shook his head even more. So that was his greatest fear now? His brother becoming proficient in magic? He felt his throat closing up and tried to put the light out in his wand, but he was in shock. "That's... boggart," he said slowly, eyes blinking hard. He was trying to snap out of the panic. But his mind went into a spiral. Alex was already his parents favorite. If he got magic, he'd dominate the entire house. He'd become the best, just like he was at everything he did. Dominic would be buried in his wake. penelope raisa bainbridge

"Not unless they got a new book. I always sit over here and hear all kinds of stuff. Not that," Dominic commented. "Just don't move for a second," he said sternly, stepping in front of her.
Penelope nodded, eyes wide. As she was told, she stayed put and waited for the Ravenclaw's further instructions. She watched as Dominic stepped forward in the direction of the noise, and the figure of a boy she didn't recognize appeared. He had a wand and was doing something with it. A stunning image of the castle appeared before them. Dominic looked stunned, although not at the splendor of it; he looked afraid.
"That's… Boggart."
While Penelope really didn't want to have to deal with that, and especially not in the library, she knew that they had little choice. "We—We should probably deal with it," she suggested, eyeing the boy, "so that it can't frighten anyone else…"
She set the book down upon the floor, held her wand out, and stepped in front of Dominic, watching as the boy she didn't recognize before them changed form… and into herself. It was immediately unsettling, even more so because she already knew what was coming next.
"…Dustin?! …Diana?! Diana, are you there?!"
Penelope could hear the image of herself calling, although her own lips weren't moving. She didn't want to see any more of it, nor did she really want Dominic to see it, either.
"…Cara? Cara?!"
Air seemed to fill the entirety of Penelope's chest as she breathed in and out. "R-Ridd…" She couldn't do it.

Penelope suggested that they deal with it, and Dominic nodded. He wanted to handle it, but he was still paralyzed with the fear and overthinking running through him. When she stepped in front of him, he didn't stop her. But then he heard Diana's name, and his heart kicked back into action. He blinked, watching the figure that matched Penelope calling out her siblings names. Cara's was next, and that was enough. He wouldn't let it get back to his Cara that he couldn't even defeat a boggart. "Move," he told Penelope, taking the lead again and not hesitating as he pointed his wand. "Riddikulus!" he cast. As the boggart was halfway between Penelope's face and Alex's, it suddenly morphed into Cara in her ice cream uniform, but with exaggerated poofy sleeves and a big, flowery hat. Dom couldn't help but burst out laughing. penelope raisa bainbridge

"Move."
Dominic ordered her out of the way as she failed to perform the spell, and Penelope stiffly moved aside for him to step in and get rid of the creature. She might not have been able to manage it, but she watched as Dominic—with renewed confidence—held his wand out in the direction of the Boggart.
"Riddikulus!"
Having seen Dominic again, the Boggart had switched to a combination of the mirror of herself and the individual Dominic had seen in his Boggart, before it morphed into… Cara. Instead of being frightening, however, it was amusing. Her sister was there before them in her Florean Fortescue's uniform, though she looked almost like some sort of clown. Her sleeves were larger than usual, and she wore a flowery hat upon her head.
Penelope had to laugh at the sight, not thinking much about the Boggart's having turned into Cara because it had happened right as the Boggart version of her had been calling Cara's name.
At her and Dominic's laughter, the Boggart vanished as though nothing had happened, and Penelope turned back to look at Dom. "Thanks, Dom," she smiled, still laughing a little. "Merlin, that hat was brilliant."

Penelope laughed too, which was a big help, as the Boggart became clearly uncomfortable. Then it vanished, and Dominics residual laughter faded as Penelope thanked him, calling him by his nickname, and talking about the hat on Caras head. Dom couldn't help a small smile at her. He wasn't entirely the worst to Penelope usually anyway... at least not in an outright way. The kid was useful in her own way, and she seemed to think he wasn't the worst dude ever, so it worked out. He reached over and ruffled the top of her head with his hand, ”maybe you cold use one of those hats, too,” she suggested before pulling his hand back. His brow furrowed a little as he looked back to where the Boggart had been. ”What was that thing doing in the castle? And why is it happening all over the place?” he questioned. Then he turned back to Penelope, abruptly. ”Don't mention this to Cara,” he said firmly. She didn't need to know that he couldn't fight the boggart on his first try. penelope raisa bainbridge

With the Boggart gone to wherever it had vanished to, Dominic reached over and mussed her hair. "Maybe you cold use one of those hats, too," he gave as a suggestion, though Penelope playfully attempted to dodge him.
"Maybe I'll need it if you keep messing up my hair," she teased him with a smile, watching as the Ravenclaw pulled his hand away again. She couldn't picture herself in the hat that "Cara" had been wearing, but maybe it would be the start of a new trend.
Dominic suddenly looked back to where the Boggart had been before they had gotten rid of it. "What was that thing doing in the castle? And why is it happening all over the place?"
Now that he mentioned it, Penelope didn't know. Why had there been Boggarts everywhere, even in places where they weren't commonly found?
"Don't mention this to Cara," Dominic added, at which Penelope nodded. She wasn't sure if she wanted her siblings to know that her searching around for them and not finding them was her Boggart, either.
"I won't," she promised, "but maybe we should tell the librarian…" Not about Cara, though, Penelope thought. "About the Boggart?"

She said she'd need one if he kept messing up her hair and Dominic laughed, shrugging. "Well, then you're definitely going to need one," he said, attempting to reach her again, but he didn't actually ruffle the hair. He just pulled his hand back, and she said that they should tell the Librarian about the boggart and he faked a yawn, shaking his head, "I'll let you handle that. I don't have time for this," he mentioned, shrugging his bag further onto his shoulder and nodding toward the exit. "I'll walk you over, though. And don't worry, I won't tell your siblings about yours either," about her calling their names to no answer, he assumed. That's what happened when you had a huge family, he thought. Though, his smaller family had it's own issues. penelope raisa bainbridge

Dominic tried to reach her hair again, saying that she was probably going to need that hat, after all, but he stopped short of actually touching her hair. She enjoyed his teasing her; it was nice, she thought, though sometimes it could be a little bit annoying.
At her suggestion that they should tell the librarian, though, Dominic feigned a yawn and shook his head no. "I'll let you handle that," he said. "I don't have time for this."
He probably thought that he was too cool for it, Penelope thought. Either that, she considered, or he was still shaken up by whatever the form he had seen the Boggart take had meant but just didn't want to admit to it. Although Dominic adjusted his bag as though he was indeed preparing to leave, he did offer to accompany her to see the librarian. He also vowed that he wouldn't tell her siblings about what he'd seen from her Boggart.
Penelope nodded, checking again to make sure that she had all of her belongings with her. "Thanks, Dom."
