Mazie pulled herself closer to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. He loves the feeling and he let his hands find her waist, a natural resting spot for them, it felt like. As they danced she said his name and for a second he tried to avoid looking at her. He did wasn’t sure what he would do if he caught her eye. She asked if he was mad at her and he shook his head, finally looking at her. She was gorgeous and he was upsetting her. This was all his fault. He was being a complete jerk to her. He couldn’t keep doing this. Mazie was his best friend. He needed to deal with this like a man. “No I’m not mad at you. I’m in love with you. So I’m acting like an idiot and it’s not me, you’re right I’m sorry.” He admitted. “I know it’s stupid and I don’t even know how it happened, and we’re just friends and that’s fine with me. I don’t want to ruin our friendship so I’m trying to get over it and forget it. So you might have to give me a week or two…” he hoped she didn’t run away right now.

At least he didn't pull away. That was Mazie's one thought as she tried to catch his eye and he wouldn't. At least he was holding her, dancing with her. As everything about their friendship seemed to be going down the drain, at least he wasn't pulling away from her entirely. She didn't know what to do anymore. Teasing wasn't helping, being serious wasn't helping. Mazie was just trying to keep her composure and not freak out about the fact that she was losing her best friend. Then he finally looked at her and she saw ... guilt in his eyes? What was he guilty about? Mazie was about to ask him something else, anything to get him talking, but he started speaking first. Her mouth fell open and her eyes widened the second he said he was in love with her. He what? She hardly heard anything else he said, though somehow it registered to her that he thought they were just friends and was trying to move on. Mazie shook her head, unable to come up with anything to say, a small smile forming on her face before she leaned up and just kissed him hard. She tried to put everything into the kiss, her longing for him, her desire to be with him, but she didn't want to make him question a thing, so when the kiss eventually broke, she kept her eyes closed and leaned her forehead against his. "Don't you dare try to get over me. I'm in love with you too," Mazie whispered, still not opening her eyes. She wasn't sure if this was actually happening or if she was just imagining it, but she'd take what she could get. After a second she added, "Tell me again?" So she could make sure she wasn't imagining everything. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Never in his wildest dreams did Jack expect to hear or feel what he was hearing now. Before she said anything, before he could even go on and finish saying what he was going to say, she had kissed him. A kiss even more exciting than their first kiss back in January in the room of requirement. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been kissed like that. Maybe never. And then she said that he better not get over her because she was in love with him too. She was? Was she sure? She asked him to say it again and a smirk crossed onto his lips. He leaned down and kissed her again, wrapping his arms around her waist. Jack didn’t have to say anything. He’s let his actions do the talking. Such was the Cowboy way.

Jack was kissing her back! That was the first thing Mazie noticed when she initiated the kiss between them. He had to actually like her if he was kissing her like that. She hadn't imagined what he said. That wasn't possible when he was holding her the way he was and responding to her kiss. Mazie didn't see the smirk on his lips when she asked him to repeat himself. Instead, he pulled her closer and kissed her again and Mazie felt more alive than she'd ever felt before. How had they lasted six years without ever realizing they felt this way for one another? Was it a new feeling or was it old, developed during long years of friendship and trust. She smiled against his lips, loving how it felt to be in his arms. It was only when she heard the sounds of people whooping around them that Mazie pulled away from Jack. She didn't care about them, couldn't care less that they were making fun of her and Jack, but she wasn't quite sure she wanted to stay here. She smiled up at him, not quite ready to leave yet, though she didn't want to stay long. "So ... that girl that you like more than Ana?" she asked with a smirk. Then she frowned a moment. "Wait, so what happened the day the semester started ... did you know how you felt then?" She was curious, as ever. She wanted to know everything that he'd kept from her the last month and a half. She wanted to tell him everything that she'd kept a secret too. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack heard the voices around them as he kissed her again, but he didn’t care. They were nothing more than background noise. Nothing could ruin this, not even his peers buzzing around to try and tease them. After she pulled away she asked about the girl that he likes more than Ana. He rolled his eyes. “finally caught on now, did ya?” He teased. And then leases down, kissing her forehead lovingly. This was a dream. It had to be. But he didn’t want anyone to pinch him. Her expression changed and she asked about the first night they kissed back in January. He shook his head. “no I didn’t know then. But I think that’s when it started, looking back now.” he explained. “I couldn’t really tell you when it started exactly.”

Ooooh and now he was being a punk. Mazie made a face at him when he teased her about finally catching on. ”Well how was I supposed to catch on when you were looking at Ana like that? I mean, you did notice her instead of me at the Valentine’s Party ...” Mazie defended herself. She was still smiling and teasing him back, but how was she supposed to know he was talking about her? Or that he wanted to be with her? Jack was really good at keeping these kinds of secrets, she was learning. She sighed, relaxing when Jack kissed her forehead. How did this feel so natural and right? She started playing with his hair, relaxing as she looked up at him and he answered her question. Mazie smirked, ”I knew the second you kissed me,” she answered conspiratorially. Then her expression grew more serious, ”But I didn’t know how to tell you. I was nervous I’d make everything all awkward with us.” Though now that she looked back on it, maybe telling him would have taken all the stress out of the past month and a half. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie gave him a hard time about his teasing and then said that he had noticed Ana first at the dance. He cocked his eyebrow, “I did what?” He asked. He had danced with Ana first, but he hadn’t thought Mazie was even there when he danced with Ana until she told him that she had seen them dancing while they walked over to the party this afternoon. Then she admitted that she knew she likes him since the first kiss. Jack almost blushed a little. So much had happened since then. It seemed like so much more than a month ago. “why do you think I didn’t tell you?” he nodded. He didn’t want to ruin their friendship.

Jack looked surprised at Mazie’s comment that he noticed Anna first, which kind of pleased Mazie. At least he hadn’t seen her there. Now she knew for sure instead of just suspecting it. She shrugged, smiling a little. ”Well, I walked in just behind her. When you greeted her, I thought you were talking to me, but she answered before I could and I realized you hadn’t seen me yet.” Mazie wasn’t upset about it anymore, not now that his arms were wrapped around her. She knew he liked her more. ”It doesn’t matter anymore,” Mazie added after a moment. She smiled when his question matched the comment she made before. ”At least we finally figured it out,” Mazie answered, leaning up to kiss him quickly. She knew this wasn’t a dream, but she wanted to enjoy her time with Jack as much as possible. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie explained that she had walked in right after Ana and had spotted Jack while he was walking over to talk to Ana before he asked her to dance. His heart sank. “Mazie I never would have ignored you if I had seen you.” he promised her. The thing was, he did like Ana. Ana was a great girl and they probably could have had a lot of fun together. But jack was starting to believe he had been in love with Mazie since his second year when they met. Even if he hadn’t known it then, or even liked girls yet at that age. He had always been drawn to Mazie. “yeah we did.” they finally figured it out. And they were together. And she was kissing him.
