17TH FEBRUARY 2025
WITH GILDEROY’S STUPID MASQUERADE BALL done and over with, Miles knew they could get back to things that actually mattered at hand. Studies. Over Christmas, Miles broadened their knowledge, learning more than what there was to know about classes like Potions, Charms…Classes that portrayed an importance towards Miles’ unrealistic goals. It proved to be useful once the new term begun, the practical test the Pucey went through, throughout their classes proving as a success. But Potions was one of the few classes the Ravenclaw enjoyed the most, considering how one ingredient could dictate whether something was an ultimate failure or an incredible result. It was just great that Miles’ last class of the day was Potions. Shuffling through the busy halls, Miles made their way down to the dungeons, smiling at the reminder that the Slytherin common room was here and how they could possibly catch up with Lydia sometime later in the day — if she was free that was.
Being somewhat on time, Miles took a seat in their usual spot, three rows back, in the right hand corner, four seats from the end. Comfortable, good view and could easily space out from the rambling words of the Professor. While Miles enjoyed the subject, they didn’t enjoy it from the Professor’s view. Their own teaching sufficed. The Pucey fumbled with a few textbooks as more students piled in and eventually the Professor seemed satisfied enough to begin. Until something felt odd. Dark eyes raised, listening in and watching as the Professor asked students to move, swapping places with others and Miles was next on the list. Paying no mind, the Pucey obeyed…Until they reached their new seat.
Sat next to a certain redhead, Miles felt themself mentally face-palm, frustrated at the choice. Did they have to sit next to the Potter? Dirty blooded Potter? ”Looks like we’re stuck with each other.” They mumbled, hoping the Gryffindor didn’t pay attention, especially since she barely paid attention to most things. Maybe Miles could steer her dreadful attempts at studying into something worse, simply just to watch her fail with amusement.

@miles 02.17.2025 Today’s class was Defense Against the Dark Arts, but Lily was bored of listening to Professor Zabini regale about his years hunting down bad guys. In theory they should have been interesting stories, and she loved tales, but he had a way of dragging them out and trying to turn it into a lesson and it never landed in the right way. Falling asleep during them was easier than paying attention and if she was going to get a detention regardless, skipping class was even more worth it. She had heard all the warnings from the professors by now: ‘she won’t graduate with her current grades’ or ‘good way to live up the family name’. Blah blah blah. Having her dad and Adrian back was more important than classes. The professors didn’t understand that. None of them had to deal with what she went through.
So instead of going to class, Lily wandered around the castle, avoiding classmates that were heading to where she was supposed to be so that they wouldn’t become unwilling accomplices in Professor Zabini’s eyes. Eventually she joined a group of seventh years heading towards the dungeons, and she assumed this was the NEWT level potions class. She wasn’t smart enough to get in that, and to be honest, they were probably all lucky that she wasn’t. Enough cauldrons had become victims of her haphazardness over the years. But today she was going to sit in the classroom for as long as it took the professor to realize that the redhead didn’t belong. It would be funny, and the majority of the class would definitely know she wasn’t supposed to be there.
She took a seat near the middle of the room, planting herself on the end closest to the classroom door so that she could make a quick escape. While rummaging around in her bag, pulling out notebooks to make it look like she belonged, the professor started moving the other students around her. Staying still wasn’t one of Lily’s strongest assets, but she froze like a statue and avoided the move, probably because the professor’s discerning glare couldn’t figure out that she wasn’t one of his students just yet. A voice from her side drew her attention, and she grinned at her new desk partner. “I haven’t taken potions in like, a year! This should be fun.” Humming happily to herself, she turned back to her notebooks and flipped open to an empty page so that she could start doodling.

IT HADN’T EVEN CROSSED MILES’ mind that Lily was not meant to be there. Not yet anyway. The Professor had simply moved people around, hoping to create a more…interactive atmosphere in his class and who was Miles to judge? Well, except for the fact that they had no intention to speak to almost…anyone. If Dom had turned up for the class at least, Miles would’ve found it rather suffice, to conjure up a conversation with the annoying blonde, but he was probably off bullying someone again. Though, it wasn’t until Miles had settled in comfortably next to the redhead, and stupidity rushed out of her lips when it all settled in. She hadn’t…taken Potions for a year? Miles blinked in confusion, watching as the girl hummed, a pencil being drawn out so she could doodle.
Was she really that stupid? Miles pulled out their own belongings, a few pens and pencils, including an eraser just in case they made a mistake. ”If you’re not—.” They paused briefly, to lower their tone for the Potter. ”—Meant to be here, how did the Professor not even notice you?” It wasn’t as if Lily didn’t stick out like a sore thumb after all. Her hair was bright, that same orange colour Miles’ father recalled seeing amongst all the Weasleys, and well, now alongside Ginny Potter. It was just a shame Lily didn’t pick up her father’s smart genes. ”You know what. Don’t even answer.” They grumbled, flipping open a couple of pages in their textbook as the Professor began. He drawled on about the lessons objective and how the practicals would continue for a few weeks. Surely the male would’ve noticed Lily by now, but it was strikingly impossible!
”Just promise not to touch my cauldron. Or anything…” Miles was contempt with having the girl doodle beside them, after all, her chaos many years before had brought tragedy to other students robes…Multiple times.

@miles 02.17.2025 Lily raised an eyebrow, arched it high on her forehead, as Miles asked her how she had managed to slip into the classroom without the professor batting an eye. It was simple, really: the professors really didn’t care. Now, if she caused a disruption or was blatantly annoying the students, it would be a completely different story. By sitting down calmly and pulling out her class materials, she essentially disappeared with the rest of the students. Except she had decided to talk to Miles, because talking was one-hundred percent better than being a quiet, studious Gryffindor. That would have driven her absolutely mad. “Can’t promise that, love,” Lily grinned at Miles, stifling the giggle that normally would have escaped from her loud mouth. “If the professor asks us to pair up, you know you’ll be stuck with me.”
Unless Cordie was somewhere in the class. Lily was almost positive that her Hufflepuff took potions because she certainly wasn’t in Defense Against the Dark Arts. The thought of the blonde girl skipping out on such a fun class was preposterous to Lily. She had to be good at those spells too, especially if she could nail down literally every single charm in the textbook. “Hey. Hey Miles,” Lily whispered, nudging them in the side with her elbow. “You know if Cordie is in this class? I’m almost positive she is, but I don’t see her anywhere.” Lily had only given the classroom a few quick glances, and if she knew Cordie, the Hufflepuff would be sequestered somewhere in the back corner trying to avoid all social interaction. And if she had spotted Lily entering the room, maybe even hiding behind her cauldron. Cordie was good at making herself small and nonexistent and it bugged Lily to no end sometimes when she wanted to hang out.
