Andy wasn't blind to the deep breath her friend took, and the way she handled that letter like it was a bomb she wanted to smash in her own hands. Andy knew that feeling well. Way too well. At the word 'ex' Andy perked up even more. She knew about this guy, and knew that he wasn't great. He wanted Heleen to move back? Yeah, no way in hell. The letter made it sound like... Andy waited, not wanting to interrupt. Those words, though, about him not wanting her to say no... those hit home. The color in her cheeks instantly filled in with red, the black in her blood starting to form already. She took a deep breath and nodded once, trying to keep her voice cool and steady. "Of course I can teach you, Heleen. I can teach you anything you want to know. But also," she reached a hand out in an attempt to stop the girl from fiddling with the letter. "If he comes an inch near you, you send for me. We'll come up with a signal," she suggested firmly. "But yes, it's always good to know defense too," and offense, she thought, but Heleen didn't need to know that... yet. @seph

It was like a load was lifted off her shoulders as soon as Andy said she could teach her to defend herself. She smiled and released the breath she wasn't even aware she'd been holding. "Thank you so much." She said, gratitude in her entire being as she visibly relaxed a lot. She offered the letter to Andy at that point. "Would you mind holding on to that though? I don't think I want the reminder. Not to mention I'm a bit worried what Dmitri would do if he found out. He's already very protective of his sister, I don't want him to worry about me as well. Especially since it might be nothing." Even as she said it, she felt the lie in it. It definitively was something, but she really wanted to avoid him worrying about her. She wanted to stay strong and independent and she was scared that she'd be less attractive to Dmitri if she showed weakness. She was just pretty worried in general that she'd say or do something that would make him lose interest in her. He made her feel things that she had never expected and she didn't want to lose that.
"When do you have time? I mean, I'd rather learn it sooner or later because I guess I need to be able to defend myself until you show up and everything..." She said, very clearly shaken up and trying to collect her thoughts. She wasn't sure what to suggest for a signal or how to get it to her if the time would come. "I don't know about a signal though. I wouldn't know how to get a message to you in a way he wouldn't notice. He scares me, although he never really did much to me. I don't know why... I'm probably just being stupid." She said, trying to wave it off as nothing, even physically. It was just difficult for her to form coherent thoughts in that moment.

Heleen thanked her and Andy just waved a hand. She asked Andy to hold onto the letter and Andy instantly took it, pocketing it without a second thought. Andy raised an eyebrow as Heleen said that it may be 'nothing'. "No, I doubt that," she commented firmly. Andy didn't trust most people, but especially not dirt bags who mistreated one of her newest friends and few friends at the Ministry. "As far as Dmitri is concerned, you should be grateful someone would worry about you... but I do understand not wanting to add stress to their lives," after all, wasn't that why she left Phil? Heleen asked when she had time and Andy grinned, "well my schedule rotates but I always have Saturday mornings free, if you want to plan for that. We can get started this weekend," she suggested, getting excited. "I even work out at a muggle gym with a friend who used to be in American law enforcement and now is here. She's amazing, I bet she'd be happy to help," she suggested. Finn was, after all, one of the most badass people she knew. Heleen spoke in fear of using a signal, how she wasn't sure that he wouldn't notice... well, that sealed the deal for Andy there. She could already feel the blood turning black in her veins, the way they always did before a kill. "Hey, don't worry. I can always come up with something, it's what I do," she promised. She reached a hand out to Heleen, not touching her without permission, but letting it be there between them should she choose to take it. "Saturday, we start."@seph

Heleen was very happy and relieved that Andy took her seriously. She was still somewhat convinced it was probably nothing, but it certainly reassuring to know people would believe her if it turned out she was wrong in the end. It was an ominous letter and it made her highly uncomfortable. "I am very grateful. He's been really good to me and I'm lucky to have met both of you." She said genuinely. It was very true, as the friends she was making here helped her feel more secure and to see that Andy was willing to help out with something that could potentially be dangerous meant that she was genuinely concerned about her. She smiled. "Thank you so much. You're a great friend." She said, the relief more than obvious in her voice.
"Saturdays are perfect. It would also be nice to work out in a muggle gym. It's been far too long since I got to take some of my old muggle stuff out. I still have an old music player with some songs but I keep it locked away at home to keep it from breaking down. Maybe I'll buy one of those fancy ones one of these days." It felt good to attempt changing the subject. It was somewhat comforting to pretend things were normal and they were not going to the gym for any other reason than to get in shape.
Heleen took Andy's hand without question, comforted by the fact that such a symbolic thing was that literal in the extended hand of help. She sighed deeply. "I just want to put all of this behind me as soon as possible. We'll start Saturday and hopefully I'll feel a bit more at ease again soon." Heleen said and finally breathed out a sigh of relief. She'd be fine, she could just tell. Andy would teach her to protect herself.

She said she was grateful and that Dmitri had been good to her and that she was lucky to meet them both. Andy felt a sharp pain in her stomach at that, the kind she got when she was guilty. She had never thought herself to be good company, so that must mean Heleen didn't have many others, right? No, she had to stop thinking that way. Instead, she smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her when Heleen called her a great friend. "You're too good for me, Heleen," she said, truthfully, "and I'm grateful for you too."Heleen agreed it would be nice to work in a muggle gym and that Saturdays worked and Andy grinned, genuinely. "I'd love to hear those songs though," she chuckled, also fine with the change of subject, but happy when it came back to it as Heleen took her hand and sighed deeply. She said she wanted to put it all behind her and... well, Andy would make sure that happened. "You'll feel great, I promise."

Heleen smiled and chuckled slightly. "I don't believe in being too good for somebody. At most you give more than you should but kindness is free and everybody should receive it. I believe kindness can help people that went the wrong way to come back on the right track. I might be somewhat naive but if all you are is cruel it seems inevitable that people feel rejected and left out. It's not too strange people would fall into old habits at that point." She said it with a careless shrug, not seeking deeper meaning. It was the main reason that she hadn't done anything cruel to her ex. It wouldn't do either of them any good in her mind. Even if he would realise how he'd treated her by violence it made him more likely to lash out for having his bubble destroyed or projecting on to others. Or maybe those were just her fears.
Heleen half smiled and half grimaced as Andy mentioned hearing the songs. "They're very nostalgic. Like, think music of like ten to fifteen years ago. It makes you feel ridiculously old. Or well, it does that to me. It always seems so much closer until you hear what year it happened and think back to how old you must have been back then. It's very trippy." She said cheerfully, relaxing a bit more and hoping things would be more positive from here on out. "I believe you. It'll all be fine. Just have to figure out the details of self defence a little and I'll be perfectly fine even if he decides to come over for tea." She said, purposefully making it sound less dangerous to keep the fears and worries at bay. It seemed like the best thing to do.

Heleen said she didn't believe in being too good for somebody, and there was no way Andy was going to bother arguing with her. Andy had loved Phil for so long that she learned very quickly that it was easy for her to not be good enough for somebody incredible and kind. Andy knew, that didn't mean Heleen or Phil had to feel the weight of that by her pushing the topic. "Kindness can do wonders, I do agree," she added softly. Heleen was incredibly wise in the words she said, words that Andy had always wished she could take to heart but... she just never had been good at it before. Maybe while Andy taught Heleen self defense Heleen would be simultaneously teaching her something too.
Andy loved hearing about the muggle songs, though. Her mind went to Vik and how she wanted to tell him about her hearing them. "I mean, I'm a violinist, so I play music that is like... hundreds of years old," she exaggerated, chuckling. "I know what you mean, though. Songs that you remember their release," she explained. Andy grinned, "perhaps we can play some of this muggle music during our lessons, if you have songs meant for getting the blood pumping,"[/] she half joked.

Heleen was quite excited about the idea of working out a little bit but also very excited to have somebody to listen to old muggle songs with. She still regularly tuned the radio to muggle channels as that reminded her of being with her muggle grandparents. It was always very nice and made her feel very loved, even with the modern songs. Besides, many of the topics were universal anyway. Love was not exclusive to one realm, although the references in the magical ones regularly were. It made it all the more fun to listen to songs by muggle authors every once in a while.
She smiled. "Oh yes! Easily. One of my favourite radio channels back home had several top 500 editions and they included 90's and 00's music. I might be able to find a playlist on spotify somewhere. It has so much nostalgia for me." Heleen didn't consider that many witches and wizards didn't actually keep one foot in the muggle world most of the time. It was something she did but she also had sorted her house out so that her phone would stop breaking down whenever she did the slightest bit of magic. It had been a hastle but she'd managed to figure it out. She just wasn't too sure about the enchanted cellphones yet. Did they come in smartphone editions that were not heavily outdated? Maybe it was time to do some research and invest some money in one. She didn't really use hers outside of the house much currently anyway.

Heleen spoke about music and Andy just relished in listening to her talk. She was truly beautiful and kind, and Andy envied that. She loved listening to people like that talk. People like Jamie, Phil and Vik. But, sadly, she felt a buzzing in her pocket. She groaned, looking up at the ceiling in annoyance and then smiling apologetically at Heleen. "I'm so sorry, work is trying to contact me so I better head back... thank you for this. I hope we can become friends," she smiled, as brightly as was possibly for Andy, and quickly headed out. (andy out! <3)
