February 2025 Tamatha had decided to stop by the Leaky Cauldron before she headed home to her flat from work. It hadn't been a particularly stressful day or anything, though she had supposed that its being Friday was enough of a reason to stop by for a bit, grab a pint, and go home. As luck would have it, it had been a little while longer than she had expected. She had run into a former coworker of hers, and they had done a little bit of catching up before the other person had had to leave.
Although she was preparing to leave for herself, Tamatha put a halt to that plan when she noticed a much younger woman at the bar who struck her as slightly familiar to her. She had probably just seen her in there before, she thought, though the woman—admittedly young enough that she could still be called a "girl"—looked as though she had already had quite a few drinks.
Wanting to make sure that she didn't overdo it or get taken advantage of for being intoxicated, Tamatha moved over to where the girl was seated. "Hey," she greeted her casually as she sat down beside her.

MERLIN ABOVE. CALLIOPE HAD NO fucking clue where she was. Or even how her day started. Or how she or even the bartender, waiter or whoever was serving her allowed it to get this bad. She hadn’t felt this…Terrible since graduation, when she celebrated with her first bottle of champagne. Of course, back home in the states the laws of being under twenty-one meant you couldn’t purchase alcohol were still valid, so that’s why she was glad her dead-beat of a dad had begun stocking up. No clue why he had champagne lying around though. Only Mom drank that back when she was around, and Cal saw no moment with her mother returning home anytime soon. But alas, England, and the whole of the bloody United Kingdom left the Fleming lucky as any old drunken, she could drink the moment she was seventeen or eighteen! Hell, she couldn’t even remember!
The seat she slouched upon was comfortable, and was her head on a counter top or a table? She couldn’t even tell the difference. She rose it though, her hand reaching out for the small glass of Scotch she was sure she ordered hours ago. Maybe five minutes ago. An unfamiliar voice entered her ear drum, causing the Fleming girl to snap her eyes shut as if someone shined something bright in her eyes. ”Shhh…” She muttered over to the person, peeking open one eye to see the other person. Except…Everything felt blurry. She was sure she saw blonde though. Down the drink went in one go, and Cal slammed the glass upon the countertop. What was she even drinking for?
”Another please.” She ordered, and was sure she heard a groan from the bartender in response. Not that she cared, she was far too gone for that. ”Now…Who…Are you?” She asked the stranger, trying to focus whatever clear vision she had left on the…blonde? Lady?

February 2025 Upon greeting her, the younger girl—even more inebriated than Tamatha had expected her to be—shushed her. She was wasted, and it was all the more reason for her to stay in this girl's company, she thought, especially if the bartender seemed to have no intention of cutting her off from her supply yet.
The girl picked her head up to down the drink that had been put in front of her without question. "Another please," she requested the bartender, to which even they seemed to groan. Tamatha, too, shot them a look; they really should have known better than to keep serving the girl.
"Now… Who… Are you?"
The girl’s voice, which didn’t sound too far off from the accent in which she spoke English, was groggy. She had to be American, Tamatha thought. She was admittedly sort of startled to hear the accent with which the girl had spoken, having anticipated some sort of British or Irish accent to come from her mouth.
"I'm a friend," she nodded to her. "Did you come here with anybody?" she asked. It didn't look as though she had, Tamatha thought (and she couldn't guarantee that the girl would be capable of answering her correctly anyway), but it was worth a shot.

BEING TOLD THE OTHER BEING was a friend sounded like bullshit to the Metamorphmagi, and her lack of self control combined with alcohol proved how doubtful she was feeling. Like flames, the colour of her hair settled on Orange, with fair strands of pink to show her flushes and of course how drunk she was. The new glass had been settled in front of her before she could speak again, so her hand extended, raising it before she turned to the lady. ”Nope.” She simply responded, popping the ‘p’ as she did so. Calliope giggled then, her hand reaching up to rub at her stinging eyes…and inevitably rub at her mascara.
Alllll…Alone.” She shrugged at this, she didn’t need friends in order to drink. Drinking wasn’t always about celebrations! Especially on a day like today when she had another panic attack from being stuck in the small storage space at St Mungos. Honestly, she needed another job. ”Hoooow about yooou? Lady?”

February 2025 The girl's hair changed to an orange color, with sections of pink interspersed in it. "Nope," she answered her simply, seemingly getting a real kick out of what she was saying and giggling.
Aside from her drunkenness, it was also clear to Tamatha then that the younger woman was a Metamorphmagus. That was… fun, she supposed, if not for the potential that the ability had to go haywire if the girl wasn't fully in control of what she was doing to her appearance with it. Tamatha had to say that she preferred her own genes, from that standpoint; being a half-Veela wasn't going to turn her hair some odd color in the middle of a conversation.
"Alllll… Alone," elaborated the younger woman, her words drawn out farther than they would have been otherwise. "Hoooow about yooou? Lady?"
"Yeah, I came here alone but ran into someone I used to work with," she answered her. Things like that happened occasionally. It was a small world. "Are you American?" she wondered. It would have been a strange accent to try on while intoxicated—in her own opinion—but to each their own, she guessed.

THE WAY SHE SPOKE AND how easy she lost control was easy to prove how drunk the Fleming really was. It didn’t make sense, now that her sober conscious took ease, steering control for the drunken body as the reason why she was still served. The next person would politely apologise, decline the orders and move away. Did Cal…Bully them into it? Merlin she couldn’t remember. The woman seemed to answer her now, the buzz of someone’s voice filling her mind but of course, she didn’t really pay much attention to it. Instead her lips formed a lop-sided smile.
”That’s nice.” Cal responded, hoping it was an appropriate response, honestly, she had no clue what the lady was even telling her. But the question held her attention and left her utterly confused. ”Who…Asks those things?” If it wasn’t clear from the accent, why should she bother answering? Her mind was a little bit faster than her body now, but the Metamorphmagi shrugged. ”Los Angeles, born and raised!” She lifted her glass then and on the comedown, hit it a bit…too hard against the counter. The trickles of the remaining Scotch wetting the palms of her hand. Fucks sake.

February 2025 "That's nice," said the younger woman when she mentioned how she had run into a former coworker of hers at the pub earlier in the evening, though the response came across as though she wasn't fully tuned in to what she had said. Tamatha wasn't really offended, though; she knew that the girl probably wasn't "all there", so to speak.
Tamatha had to laugh a little, though, as she was asked "Who asks that?" in reply to her question about the girl's being, presumably, American. "Los Angeles, born and raised!" the girl then proclaimed, setting her glass onto the counter with more force than was actually necessary.
Looking momentarily for a napkin and not seeing one, Tamatha was prepared to take her wand out to help the young woman dry her hands off—until she remembered that bringing out her wand around someone so drunk probably wasn't the greatest idea in the world. They'd just have to wait for the bartender to come back around, then, she imagined.
Continuing their conversation in the meantime, Tamatha spoke, "I went to Ilvermorny," she said with a small smile. "That's why I asked."

WAS SHE LAUGHING? CAL HAD no clue, so she decided to laugh too. She hadn’t meant to break…another glass. Though, she couldn’t remember the last time she had broken a glass. She was usually careful with things like that. She could see the woman moving, trying to find a napkin and Cal rose her hand, implying she didn’t have to worry. That’s what magic was for! Except when you were incredibly drunk, it wasn’t recommended. Her finger twirled then, the shards of glass coming together…Only to fall onto the floor on the other side of the counter top. Now it was the bartender’s problem!
”Ilvermorny…” Cal repeated as if the name of the wizarding school was foreign. She knew it, of course. She was the last of her family to graduate before it turned to shit. Oh how she missed it. ”You know.” She began, taking a breath as she paused. ”I really miss it there.” The strands in her hair shifted colour then, a shade of dark blue taking over. When news broke out about the school, she felt upset, knowing her younger brothers wouldn’t have the hella cool parties that were thrown for the graduates at the end of the year. Those were the best of the best.

February 2025 Somehow, fortunately, the girl was able to use wandless magic to piece her glass back together and make it whole again. Well, that was at least until she accidently knocked it off onto the other side of the bar counter. She had tried, at least?
“Ilvermorny…” mused the young woman, as though the name was one she hadn’t heard in years. She had to have gone there, though, Tamatha guessed, if she was born and raised in Los Angeles as she had said that she was. “You know. I really miss it there.”
Tamatha nodded, watching as the younger woman’s hair shifted from an orange color to blue—out of sadness, probably. She definitely missed Ilvermorny, too, even if she had been a piece of work to begin with. “Yeah, I understand,” she agreed. She wondered how Hogwarts compared to their alma mater. Cameron had her friends from home, at least, which must have made it easier for all three of them, but it still hadn’t been the greatest news in the world to hear that Ilvermorny was so heavily vandalized that it couldn’t reopen for the year.
“Which House were you in?”

CALLIOPE WAS SPIRALLING OUT OF control now and the more she spoke or done things, proved it. To Eli, Hogwarts was a little different to Ilvermory, of course with the British, Scottish and Irish accents, but the classes somewhat remained the same. She was sure the pretty lady — at least the Fleming was sure she was pretty — was speaking to her again, asking about her house? Her house was in London…Oh wait.
”Thunderbird!” She said, announcing her words again. She was most definitely sure the people inside hated her guts by now. ”You as well?” She questioned in assumption. It was funny how the conversation had jumped to their houses already, the drunk didn’t even know the woman’s name…Or her true intentions.

February 2025 "Thunderbird!" the younger woman explained after another slight delay, during which time she seemed to have been processing the question that she had been asked. The Thunderbird students were known for being the more adventurous ones, in general. At least in Tamatha's school days, they had also been known to party, so it wasn't as surprising to her that the girl had called out that House, rather than—for example—Horned Serpent or something. "You as well?"
Tamatha shook her head. "No, I was in Wampus," she explained. "I had probably graduated by the time you started," she guessed. There were quite a few years between them, it seemed, although maybe Cameron knew her. She didn't know.
"I'm Tammy, by the way," Tamatha introduced herself, realizing that she had failed to do so. She doubted that this girl would even remember her in the morning, but it was still the polite thing to do.

EVEN THOUGH CALLIOPE WAS SLURRING her words and took forever to respond, she was intact, her brain, eyes and ears wide awake. It was funny though, considering with every question the woman asked, it took the Fleming at least five minutes before she had an answer to respond with. Was she even drunk? ”Wampus.” She repeated. trying to recall the differences of the school in her scrambled mind. Information wasn’t piecing together so eventually, Calliope gave up. ”Good house.” She added on with a nod.
While it was most likely true, considering how young Calliope truly was, maybe there was some potential she had seen the older woman in Ilvermorny! But with her current state, she simply couldn’t tell much. Or tell the difference between things. ”Tammy…” She said, facing the woman and sending her a drunken smile. ”I’m Calliope!” It was about time she had introduced herself anyway. ”Please though…Call me Cal.” Cal was what she mostly responded to nowadays anyway. Eyes lit up with the passing bartenders, holding round plates filled with glasses of drinks and Cal reached over, prying one of the glasses only to have the bartender’s face turn sour. What the hell for?

February 2025 "Wampus," the younger woman eventually acknowledged. "Good house," she nodded.
It had been, Tamatha agreed. In hindsight, she couldn't have pictured herself in any of the other three Houses. She still knew Ilvermorny's school song by heart, not that she would have been caught dead—even still—singing it aloud. Sometimes, though, she caught herself humming the tune. That wasn't quite so bad.
"Tammy…" The younger woman faced her and smiled, probably trying to figure out how—if at all—she knew her. "I’m Calliope!" she announced, only to backtrack and to ask her to call her "Cal" rather than "Calliope".
Tamatha nodded. She understood, even if Cal was drunk. She didn't usually go by "Tamatha" with people; the name seemed to confuse them more than was necessary or even worth it. She was "Tammy" to most… and that still got mistaken for "Tabby" or whatever else.
At about that same moment, one of the bartenders passed by them with a tray of drinks. Tamatha didn't think too much of it at first, until she saw the look in Cal's eyes. The younger woman had managed to get one of the drinks from the tray, which the bartender looked none too happy about having seen.
Tamatha shook her head. She would have asked what Cal thought she was doing, but she could tell that she already had no clue. The fact that the younger woman was as grabby with the drink as a small child might have been was embarrassing for her, Tamatha thought, but there wasn't much that she could do, was there?

CONFUSION WAS ALL THE DRUNK felt now. Why was she being judged for grabbing onto a simple little drink? It wasn’t as if she had many anyway. Or at least from what she could remember. Calliope was a heavy drinker after all, and it took quite a bit for the Thunderbird graduate to get drunk. The bartender turned back into the Metamorphmagi’s direction then, requesting for the small glass that she had taken, back. ”I can pay for it!” She called out, assuming that was the problem with the bartender.
Merlin, how wrong the Fleming was. She turned her head slightly to Tammy for some help, to prove she wasn’t as drunk as she…may have seemed. She had slowed down with drinking after all! Every drop she wasn’t taking in, in a period of five to thirty seconds only meant Calliope was getting sober. At least, that was her stupid logic behind drinking anyway. ”Help.” She muttered to the blonde, hand swatting at the woman’s leg.

February 2025 "I can pay for it!" Cal hollered out once it had apparently hit her that maybe she had made a mistake in trying to snatch away a drink that wasn't even hers. Somehow, Tamatha didn't think that the bartender's problem was with a potential loss of profits, but who was she to say? The American girl had already knocked one glass clean off the counter, too, so it wasn't as though it was her first offense of the night. Merlin, Tamatha hoped that she had never come across as that unruly while drunk…
Cal then turned to look at her. "Help," she asked of her, batting at her leg, although Tamatha wasn't sure what she wanted her to do, exactly. She wasn't going to take responsibility for the drink, because it certainly wasn't her fault. She also didn't want to get stuck with Cal's tab, either, if it was as bad as she imagined it must have been. She was just trying to keep Cal from running into any real trouble. Short of binding her arms to her body so that she couldn't do anything else regrettable, there were few options.
"What?" Tamatha hissed at her. If she could just conjure alcohol from her wand, then maybe that would have been helpful to make amends, but she couldn't do that. The only thing that she could do was pray that Cal calmed down—or sobered up—enough that she could see her safely into the Floo Network or onto the Knight Bus.
