Anna shrugged when Oscar insisted that just because this pain wasn't the worst didn't mean she wasn't in pain. Anna nodded, showing that she understood what he was saying. "A little bit, but I don't hurt as badly as you probably think I do." Did that make any sense? The thing was, as hard as it was to see Oscar and have him not remember her, at least she could SEE him. At least he was well and good. And she could hear his voice. Even though he wasn't whispering that he loved her and kissing her, hearing his voice was calming to her. "I don't mind. Really." She'd probably talk to him as long as he'd let her, which was a little scary. What would she do when he left. Anna's eyes widened when Oscar asked if they got married at sunrise, then she nodded, smiling a little again. "Yes, we got married at sunrise." Anna swallowed a little before asking. "How did you know that?" Maybe he'd guessed, but it was a very lucky guess if he had. Besides, she was answering his questions. Maybe he wouldn't mind answering one for her. @oscar

Anna insisted she wasn’t as bad off as Oscar thought, and he had to accept that; he couldn’t read Anna’s mind and he had to believe she was telling the truth. He didn’t doubt she would lie to spare his feelings, but for now… they weren’t close enough for him to push. Or at least, he didn’t remember being close enough to be able to push her into telling him the truth, and he didn’t remember being able to know when she was well and truly lying.
She had noticed his half-formed memory, of course. She would be looking for that, for any indication he was the person she remembered him to be. When she asked how he knew, Oscar simply shrugged, stepping back from the array of flowers he was looking at. He felt like he needed more space, and he didn’t know why. “Like I said. A dream.” And that was really the best way he could think to describe it – the year they had spent together left impressions of feelings and tiny clips of memories that might’ve been, but maybe weren’t. It wasn’t a dream to her, but to him it might as well have been.

Anna honestly couldn't decide how she felt about any of this. She loved Oscar. She wanted him to really be back. She'd searched for him, and then mourned for months after she found his ring. Now he was back, but it wasn't really him. It felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest. She nodded when he said that it was a dream, which had to be his way of saying that he didn't really remember. Of course he didn't. She didn't know what to say to that. "This flower over here is pretty," Anna said, turning around and pointing out some random flower. Honestly, she spoke the words before she saw the flower. She was just looking for something to relieve the tension. If that was even possible. Part of her wanted to leave, to go home and cry, but she couldn't just walk away. She could hardly stand the thought of doing that. @oscar

Oscar could feel the tension in the air, and knowing he was the source of the tension was difficult. He had always been one to go with the current, follow where everyone else was leading him. He only acted out when he wanted people to pay attention to him, and even though he was obviously the center of Anna’s focus at the moment, it didn’t feel good the way being focused on normally did. It felt wrong, probably because of the constant niggling feeling there was something he’d forgotten. Oscar took a deep breath, following Anna’s gaze when she mentioned the pretty flower.
“Do you have a favorite?” Oscar asked. He had probably known this, once. He was caught between wanting to re-learn everything and wanting to forget he ever met Anna at all. Ignorance was looking awfully blissful… but he couldn’t help but want to be loved.

In all honesty, Anna expected Oscar to leave when she turned away from him. She wasn't trying to send him away or anything, but she was positive that he felt uncomfortable- probably blindsided too- by running into her here. He probably wanted to go off and sort out his feelings, but he wasn't. At least, not yet. She was just trying to keep her composure as long as she could. Once he left she'd probably just go home and cry, but she was pretty proud of how she was handling herself right now. He asked if she had a favorite flower and Anna turned to smile at him even as she shrugged. "Not really. I like white ones though. Any white flower." She liked the contrast of the white against her red hair, mostly. Other than that, Anna hadn't really spent much time looking at flowers. She always felt like she was too busy for that, though now that she looked back on it, she wasn't too busy. "Do you?" Anna asked after a moment. @oscar

Anna said she didn’t have a favorite flower, but rather a favorite color of flower. Oscar filed that information away for later use without even really knowing why he was doing it. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his frantically-beating heart. He had thought he was fine and he had gotten over the shock, but everything Anna said seemed to send him right off-balance again – like asking him if he had a favorite flower. He bit his lip, considering. “I do not like lilies.” Lilies remind him of funerals and death and dying, so naturally it wasn’t the most positive association. “But I do not know if I have a favorite, either.” He wanted to say his favorite was something that reminded him of her, but he didn’t know what would remind him of her, so his attempt at a romantic gesture was thwarted. “Maybe… daisies?” He guessed. There weren’t many other flowers Oscar knew the names of.

Oscar didn't answer her right away, but Anna wasn't in a rush for an answer. She looked at the flowers, hoping that it would make him feel less pressured or rushed or whatever. When he answered, saying he didn't like lilies, Anna glanced back and nodded. She wasn't entirely sure why he wouldn't like lilies, but at the same time Anna didn't really feel like asking. At least he continued, so she didn't feel the need to say something. Then he finally suggested daisies as a possible favorite. Anna smiled. "I like daisies. They're pretty and happy and bright." Wait, was she even making sense? Maybe Oscar thought she sounded like an idiot. He probably wouldn't say so, even if he did. "So ... did you come to the festival to look at the flowers, or was there something else you wanted to do here?" Maybe he'd come for something else and she distracted him. Oops. @oscar

Anna agreed that daisies were good flowers – pretty and happy and bright, as she said – and Oscar managed a small smile, pleased that he had said something she agreed with. “I just wanted to take a break from work,” Oscar said when Anna asked why he was there. He enjoyed looking at flowers, but it probably wasn’t something he would have chosen to do in his free time if he hadn’t specifically been looking for something to do. “Today is my birthday,” he announced, as an explanation for why he was seeking to shirk his work in the first place. He suspected she knew that already, but knowing and remembering were two different things. If she had spent the past four months thinking he was dead, his birthday probably wasn’t an occasion she wanted to celebrate.

Anna nodded when he said he wanted a break from work, then explained that it was his birthday. She nodded knowingly. That was one of the reasons why she'd come here instead of staying home. She needed something to keep her from thinking about him all day. Still, he brought it up now, so she smiled. "Happy birthday. I guess I should have said that earlier ..." but wouldn't he have thought that was weird, having a complete stranger wish him well? She wasn't sure. "So your fun plans for the day are coming to the festival?" Anna asked, teasing just a little. It was closer to the kind of thing she would have said to him months ago. @oscar

Anna wished him a happy birthday, and Oscar cracked a smile. She was the only one to have done so – he hadn’t told his colleagues specifically he was taking off to celebrate, and he didn’t have enough close friends that anyone would remember to send him an owl. “It is alright. And thank you. This is… not a birthday present I expected.” A wife and a life – a birthday present like none other. Whether it was a good present or a bad one, his mind was still trying to process, but it was certainly a gift, and a gift with potential. “It was that or sit around doing nothing,” Oscar said, smile growing slightly when Anna asked if this was his idea of a fun time. Sure, it wasn’t that great, but it was better than staring at a wall all day.

Anna gave a sad smile when he said that this wasn't a present he expected. How could he have expected something like this? She certainly hadn't thought she would run into him again today. Part of her wished she had something real to give him, even though she hadn't known she'd see him today. Then again, she did give him his ring back. Did that count as a gift? "Yeah, that makes sense. I'm ... still glad I ran into you though." Even though it made things harder for her, since she was in love with someone who didn't remember a thing about her, Anna was still happy to know he was alive. Her smile became more real at his next comment. "Well, I definitely think that coming here is better than sitting around doing nothing," she teased. "I mean, I'm here for the same reason. Don't have training today, so I came here instead of sitting around at home." @oscar

Anna said she was glad she ran into him, and Oscar nodded numbly. He supposed it was better than her not wanting him anymore, which would have been a poor present indeed. She said coming to the flower festival was better than doing nothing, and then mentioned she didn’t have training. Oscar cocked his head to the side, curious. “What are you training for?” Of course, he should’ve known that already. He should’ve known what she was doing with her life. Oscar blinked, a thought suddenly occurring to him – did Anna know what he did? Whatever had happened to make him… make him forget her might have taken more of him, too. He didn’t particularly want to continue down that line of thinking. There was a lot he needed to sort out, but doing it all at once wasn’t going to help his headache. “…Was I training for anything?” he asked, despite his better judgement.

He was so quiet. It wasn't necessarily a surprise, since Oscar had never been a loud type of person, but he'd always been talkative. This silence was almost as hard for her as everything else was. Still, at least he wanted to know about her. He asked what she was training for and Anna looked over at him. "I'm training to become an Auror." She wasn't sure exactly what type of response she'd get from that. He'd never been fond of the idea of her being an auror, but he was a different person now. Maybe this version of Oscar wouldn't be upset by that. She smiled and shook her head at his next question. "No, you weren't training. You were working as a historian. When you left, you were on a job ... for Gringotts I think." In all honesty, she hadn't cared who he was working for. She was just happy for him when he got a job and because he was so excited about it. She loved seeing him happy. @oscar
