Buffy didn't necessarily WANT to see her family,. but since they were here it was hard to avoid them. Sure, she could hide up in the bat cave with her friends, but sometimes she had to come down into the real world. Today, she was waiting to meet her sister Muffy. She gave Muf the address of where to meet her but did not tell her it was a giant Apple electronics store. Elizabeth waited inside, bent over to lean on a table and play with an iPad. She knew Muf hated this stuff, and she wasn't even a little bit sorry about forcing her to come into the store to find her. In fact, she found that idea to be pretty funny.
She giggled to herself, playing a game on the contraption, her gigantic pink headphones on top of her head. Even her wedding ring was tech, It was a small black circle with a tiny square on top that she could press like a button if she was in need and it would send a beacon to Wally and also to the others at the bat cave. Sadly, she usually took it off when she knew she was going hunting or searching for magic... so it wasn't that useful in bad situations anyway. Well, at least she could call for help right BEFORE storming a vampire den, right?

March 6, 2025 Muffy didn't dislike her youngest sister, Buffy; even "dislike" was too strong of a word for her liking. She had an open distaste for some of Buffy's interests, however, which seemed to her to have clouded the younger woman's sense of judgment over the years. Hopefully, she thought, it was just a phase that she would grow out of—sooner, that was, rather than later.
Still, being the good sister that she was, Muffy had agreed to meet with Buffy at some address in London. She wasn't sure where she was going, but she had told the cab driver the address… and waited. Traffic in London was abysmal, although Muffy had thought to bring her enchanted camera with her to pass the time. Ideally, she thought, Buffy had chosen a nice restaurant or something where they could catch up.
But, no. As luck would have it, the cab had stopped directly in front of an Apple store. She groaned and requested the driver to check the address again. There must have been a mistake, she thought, but she begrudgingly paid her fare and got out of the cab, entering the electronics store so that she could figure out where she was supposed to be.
Once she got inside, she spotted her sister amongst the store's customers and plastered a smile upon her face. "Buffy!" she smiled, waiting for her sister to look up from that stupid tablet to acknowledge her presence. "It's so good to see you!"

Her sister arrived and Buffy grinned at the sight of her, not looking up until she said her name. She gazed at her sisters face, searching for some clue that Muffet was unhappy about being here. She liked to push her sisters buttons, that was just the way Buffy did things. But, there was no sign of an annoyance, which was a bummer. She held up a finger, looking down at the tablet again to finish her game in less than as second, then released it and moved away to grin at her sister. "Muffler!" yes, it was a horrible nickname, but one Buffy had decided to apply to her sister on occasion. "How are you, sis? It really is nice to see you," and she meant that, too. Even if she was a little punk in her leather jacket with her pink headphones, she still loved her sister. She took off the headphones, which didn't even have anything playing, and let them hang around her neck like they often did.
"There are some restaurants nearby, if you want to head to one," she suggested not really expecting Muffy to want to stay in the Apple store for caching up. It really wasn't the best place to talk anyway, what with all the noise and salespeople.

March 6, 2025 “Muffler!” Buffy greeted her, and Muffy cringed internally at the nickname that her sister had given her. Of all of the nicknames in the world, wasn’t “Muffy” good enough for her? Why did she have to go and call her… a vehicle part? Buffy probably thought that it was cute, knowing her. “How are you, sis? It really is nice to see you,” she said, and she did at least sound genuine about that.
Even if her appearance wasn’t exactly something that Muffy approved of, and even if it made Buffy look like an edgy teenager at some shopping mall, she felt likewise. At least her sister had taken her headphones off of her head and put them around her neck. That was some progress, or at least Muffy would take what she could get there. “I’m doing well,” she answered her sister, nodding. She hadn’t hit anything groundbreaking in Britain yet to report to her, but she was hopefully about to. That was always the goal. “How are you?”
Fortunately, Buffy did mention getting out of the store and going to a restaurant, which sounded like a good idea to Muffy. “Of course. You know I don’t like any of… this,” she muttered, gesturing towards all of the electronics—the same devices that had probably rotted Buffy’s brain over the years.

Muffy said that she was doing well, and Buffy grinned. "Good, good," she replied. In response to her sisters return of the question, she shrugged, "I've been doing pretty well, the new iPad extension came out and that's been quite a riot on my end," she explained happily. Wally, her husband, had been on the team that helped develop it which was quite exciting on and of itself. He talked a little about the new features but generally kept quiet as to not ruin the surprise, or get in trouble.
Of course Muffy was happy to go somewhere else, stating that she didn't like any of that stuff. "Aww, you oughta give it a chance. If not just for the music storage," she suggested. Still, she waved to one of the workers goodbye as she stepped out, leading her sister to the left, toward a street with plenty of restaurants to choose from.

March 6, 2025 "Good, good," her sister answered her about how she was. "I've been doing pretty well, the new iPad extension came out and that's been quite a riot on my end."
"Oh, I'm sure," Muffy answered her sister dryly. Those things still hadn't become obsolete, somehow, although she didn't understand it.
That only meant, though, that Buffy was going to keep encouraging her to give that stuff that she disliked so much a chance. "Aww, you oughta give it a chance. If not just for the music storage," she explained as they made their way out of the store and down the sidewalk.
"I just don't see why I need to waste my money on something I'm not going to use," Muffy commented. "I have better things to do than sit around and play games all day," she added, "and so do you."

Muffy didn't hide her disdain and that just made Buffy want to laugh out loud, but she resisted. It was incredibly odd having her family here in England. She had gotten so used to life without them. Still, Muffy went on about how she didn't to waste her money on something she wouldn't use. Thankfully, they were out of the store and in the fresh air, which would make Muffy happy. "Well, that's fair. I don't buy things I don't need. And I don't play games all day. This stuff is actually pretty useful in our... live of work," she argued. "Surveillance can be done without getting too close to a subject, therefore it still works," she kept her tone hushed, as to be safe just in case there was anyone lurking who would figure out what they were talking about. "But, I know you're too stubborn to give it a chance so maybe we should give it a rest. Where do you want to eat?" she said all of this so quickly, gesturing to the row of shops and restaurants ahead of them.

March 6, 2025 Buffy spoke up and protested that she wasn’t playing games all day on her electronics and that what she was doing was actually useful to…well, their line of work. Muffy understood immediately what her sister meant by that aspect of it, though she had yet to see how her younger sister’s fascination with the latest technology would help her any more substantially than anything else that they had ever used.
“Surveillance can be done without getting too close to a subject, therefore it still works,” Buffy commented. Perhaps that was true, Muffy thought, but there were plenty of other ways to keep tabs on what people were doing and whether or not it seemed suspicious in any way. “But, I know you're too stubborn to give it a chance so maybe we should give it a rest,” Buffy then decided. “Where do you want to eat?”
“Whatever’s around here?” Muffy asked her sister. That probably wasn’t very helpful, when she did turn her nose up at most of the food that she had come across. All of the dishes with names she couldn’t pronounce or that otherwise sounded slightly vulgar—“spotted dick” and “toad in the hole” came to mind—were obviously not going to fly with her. “Someplace with… I don’t know, a nice soup and salad combination? Or a club sandwich?”

Of course Muffy didn't comment further on the technology. Prude. As for what to eat, she just said she was fine with whatever was around there at first. Buffy made a face at her, eyebrows lowered and eyes wide, head tilted. Muffy said she'd like something with a soup and salad combo or a club sandwich. Defniitely was thinking American food. Buffy chuckled, ”that's no problem, I know a place,” she nodded toward the left, leaning slightly before walking that way. Soon they turned another street and there was a simple looking deli on the corner. ”It's not super fancy, but at least you won't be eating French food,” she joked. There was a lot of French food around here, too, but she was just being a tease.
Once inside, Buffy picked a booth and slid into it, gesturing for Muffet to sit on the side opposite her. ”So, how are mum and dad?” she asked. At the question her eyes drifted to her sisters birthmark, but she tried to disguise it by glancing up at the wall behind her right after. She knew how... self conscious that situation was for Muffy. She may be a brat, but not a bully.

March 6, 2025 Muffy heard her sister laugh a little at the type of food that she was thinking, but she had to wonder if Buffy could blame her. She wasn't someone who "branched out"—not with technology, and not with food, either. She stuck to what she knew and liked, and that was that.
Luckily, Buffy didn't give her too much grief over her preferences and said that she knew a place. Muffy followed her sister in what she assumed was the direction of the restaurant, which looked like it was just a standard delicatessen. Perfect.
"It's not super fancy, but at least you won't be eating French food," Buffy teased her.
Nodding, Muffy looked the place over. It didn't look too bad, at least from the outside; the inside wasn't bad, either. She should have had more faith in her sister than to think that maybe she would end up duped, but Buffy had actually done alright for herself. They found a booth, and Muffy moved down opposite her younger sister.
"So, how are mum and dad?"
"Mom and Dad"—Muffy emphasized, using the American pronunciations of the words to correct her sister—"are fine," she answered, grabbing her napkin and setting it across her lap. "I talked to Mom… two days ago, I guess?" The time difference made it difficult, sometimes, to keep in touch.

Muffet corrected her using the English 'mum' and Buffy rolled her eyes. She had lived here for so long and her husband was English, she had slipped into using some of their terminology. So, what? Muffy never had room for anything new or interesting in her life. Apparently her parents were fine, and she had spoken to their mother very recently. "Well, I haven't talked to her in about two years, so you beat me there," she joked. Then the waitstaff arrived to take their drink orders, to which Buffy nodded toward her sister, "whatever you want, Muff. I'll pay," she suggested. She turned back to the waiter. "I'll take anything in red, don't care what kind as long as it's under twenty bucks a glass," she ordered.
As soon as Muffet ordered, she went back to the previous discussion. "What have they been up to? Same old thing? Same old way?" her family was so old fashioned.

March 6, 2025 “Well, I haven't talked to her in about two years, so you beat me there,” Buffy said of her communication—or lack thereof—with their mother. Even if their mother hadn’t always been the most affectionate towards her, familial obligation kept Muffy in close contact with her. She was her mother; it seemed unconscionable to cut contact with her completely. Not even calling her to say hello on Mother’s Day? Her birthday? Muffy shook her head, clucking her tongue in disapproval.
It had been Buffy’s choice to estrange herself from the rest of them. She was an adult, Muffy had to remind herself; she could do what she wanted, even if it struck her as rather callous. Luckily (although perhaps completely intentionally), Buffy switched the subject and turned to their waiter before the two of them could end up squabbling over it. “Whatever you want, Muff. I'll pay,” she said.
Muffy appreciated that her sister was willing to pay for her food, but that didn’t really make up for the fact that she apparently hadn’t spoken to their mother in about two years. Still, she nodded her head and held her tongue as her sister ordered a glass of wine. She began to question if the goal of this outing was just to spite her.
“I’ll just have a glass of water, thank you,” Muffy smiled at the waiter, a smile that was clearly too forced to be natural.
“What have they been up to? Same old thing? Same old way?”
“Same house. Same phone number,” Muffy added with a nod, keeping the same smile upon her face. “Your finger must’ve slipped on your touchscreen the past two years.” @buffy

Muffy ordered water, shock-er. And the little disapproving head shake when Buffy said she hadn't spoken to their mother was also not surprising. Sure, maybe Buffy had sent a card or something occasionally... actually,s he was pretty sure she didn't. She left for a reason, she wasn't really interested in being that much a part of her family. Yet, here she was buying lunch for her big sister. Whatever.
Muffet said that they had the same house and the same number, clearly a hit at the fact that Buffy hadn't called. That smile plastered onto her sisters face must have been exhausting to keep up. Buffy leaned back a little more, slouching down in her chair. Muffet added that her finger must have slipped on the touch screen the past few years and Buffy laughed, very loudly, tossing her head back for a second before looking back to her sister. "That was a good one, Muffy! Wow, I can't believe you even know what a touch screen is called. But, really, did you all come to England just to fight with me? I promise," she sat up, leaning forward, putting her arms on the table to do so, "there are much worse enemies here in the UK."

March 6, 2025 Buffy let out what Muffy could only describe as a forced laugh. "That was a good one, Muffy! Wow, I can't believe you even know what a touch screen is called. But, really, did you all come to England just to fight with me?" she questioned.
Of course that wasn't it. Muffy had better things to do than to fight with her sister, although she couldn't be sure that Buffy had better things to do than to fight with her. She knew why she was there; she knew her purpose very well, and it wasn't for a family reunion.
Buffy leaned forward again, instead of leaning back in her chair as she had. "I promise," she told her, "there are much worse enemies here in the UK."
Muffy nodded her head. "I know, and I know you're not my enemy," if that was what Buffy was trying to get her to claim. She didn't hate her sister, or she wouldn't have been having the very conversation with her that she was having. "I wouldn't have come here," she reminded her, "if I didn't think we'd be successful." Whether or not people wanted to believe her was different. They could continue to live in ignorance, if they so chose. "I haven't gotten any film developed yet," she added in reference to her "special" camera, "but you really think that I'm just going to hop back on a flight tomorrow?"

Muffet said she knew, and that Buffy wasn't her enemy. Buffy scoffed, leaning back once again. Her sister said she wouldn't have come there if she didn't think the family goal would be successful. The family goal, to expose wizardkind. That was important to Buffy, of course, but it was more important to rid the world of the dangerous creatures wizardkind harbored. Exposing them would make that task much, much easier. "No. I don't think you will. We want the same things," she reminded herself. "You can use my dark room, if you wanted. Unless you guys have one set up?" she suggested. Buffy didn't think they would, having not been here very long, but her family was always prepared.
Their drinks arrived and conversation paused for a moment, as it often did when discussing second salemer matters. Not that Buffy really cared if people knew she was a witch hunter, that was kind of the point, but some public places got fussy about it when they were trying to eat or whatever. The waitstaff left and Buffy continued. "You know, if they weren't so stubborn, mom and dad could just ask me for help. I've been here longer than you all have," she reminded.
