 8TH FEBRUARY 2025
EDRIK WAS ONLY GETTING SICK and tired of his job. Sure, playing Quidditch is fun and all, attending advertising promotions, and even being confronted by fans was great…When their team was almost top of the league. Now Appleby Arrows was sixth in the league, the Krum was slowly giving up. If his father saw him now, he would show his disappointment in him, in his son for considering leaving his team for another. Daniel had voiced his options as well, to transfer elsewhere but Edrik was stuck in a whirl of confusion. Called in fairly early at Diagon Alley’s Quality Quidditch Supplies, Edrik alongside his team were taking photos for banners for the new store, to convince young wizards and their parents to purchase their supplies.
Wrapping up by 1 the latest, Edrik clapped his hand against Daniel’s back, waving him and his other mates goodbye. The plan for today was to surprise Tia at the hospital, perhaps with some lunch, considering Edrik knew her already. She was the type to not worry about herself whenever she was working, focusing on her tasks before her own health. Opening the door, the Krum stepped out, adjusting his jacket as the light rays hit him. Head lowering, Edrik stepped off, turning to his left when he collided with a smaller being.
”I’m so incredibly sorry.” He began, hands reaching down for the things the other person seemingly dropped. Edrik hadn’t even looked upon the person he collided against. When dark eyes raised, the Krum’s lips turned upwards, and the documents he dropped, he handed back. ”Well, well. If it isn’t Rose Weasley.”

Quality Quidditch Supplies was not Rose’s usual haunt. She preferred libraries or bookstores to basically any other shop, and getting her into someplace else was a task. Still, her father’s birthday was coming up and she needed to get him a good gift. His love for the Chudley Cannons had seemed like a good place to start, until Rose had realized her father probably owned every bit of Cannons-related memorabilia there was to own. She was standing just outside the door of Quality Quidditch Supplies, trying to formulate a plan (and psych herself up to actually enter the store) when someone exiting the place ran straight into her.
Rose took a half-step back, the piece of parchment she was using to brainstorm ideas fluttering onto the snow-covered ground. Rose cursed, but before she could reach to get the parchment back, the person who ran into her was already retrieving it. It was only when he looked up that Rose realized she knew the man. “Well, well. If it isn’t Edrik Krum.” Her voice was mocking but her eyes were sparkling. It had been too long since she’d seen him – mostly because of her own work schedule, but also because Quidditch players were difficult to get ahold of. “Do you do anything in your life not related to Quidditch?” She asked with an arched eyebrow. She would’ve thought Quality Quidditch Supplies would be the last place a Quidditch player, who was constantly surrounded by the game, would want to spend their time.

WORKING UP A GRIN, EDRIK couldn’t help but portray his excitement in seeing his friend just from his facial expressions. His day had gotten a lot better, and given that it didn’t start on too bad of a high, seeing Rose made everything a lot better now. She mocked his tone like usual, leading to the Krum rolling his eyes. Wasn’t she typical. ”Where have you been hiding Weasley?” He asked, side stepping to somewhat give the girl a hug, brief and short like always. He laughed then at her question, feigning a pout. ”Did somebody miss me?” He asked, toppling her question with one of his own.
”Quidditch is all I live and breathe unfortunately.” And given how bad Appleby Arrows was doing, maybe the Krum needed a career change. ”Doing some local promotions to bring up our morale and support again. Since we’re doing complete and utter dog shit this season.” Partially, the scores was Edrik’s fault, especially since he was the Keeper for the team. But while he was to blame partially, the seeker had multiple chances to catch the bloody Snitch. ”What about you? Do you do anything in your life that isn’t related to work?” At least, that’s what he assumed the fallen documents were related to.

Edrik rolled his eyes at her, which was exactly the reaction Rose expected from him. Their relationship was playfully antagonistic, which meant eye rolls abounded. “Weasleys don’t hide,” she said haughtily. She hadn’t been hiding from Edrik, or anyone – she had just been busy with work, and finding a work-life balance wasn’t exactly easy when you were nineteen and just entered the work force. “I miss you the way I miss a spring cold,” Rose retorted. That was: she didn’t miss him at all. (That was a lie, but he didn’t really need to know that.)
“Are you?” Rose didn’t keep up with Quidditch enough to know how Edrik’s team was doing. That probably made her a bad friend, but she wasn’t all that interested in the sport, so was it really that bad? It wasn’t like Edrik was researching educational reforms just because that was what she was interested in. She wanted to apologize for the team doing poorly, but that probably wouldn’t go over well. Instead, Rose jumped on what Edrik said next, about her and her own work. “Considering I’m about to walk into a Quidditch supply store when my job has nothing to do with Quidditch, I would say the answer is yes.” Spending time with family counted as not related to work, right?

EDRIK COULDN’T HELP BUT WORK up a smile at Rose’s response. She knew most Weasley’s didn’t have the confidence—well arrogance that Rose had, even if she was feigning it. That’s why Edrik enjoyed her company out of everyone else, they had similar interests and loved to annoy one another. What else could he ask for? ”Suuuure. Because according to my Dad, yours was always hiding.” It was a little harsh to bring up gossip from the past of their parents but hopefully Rose saw the joke in it all. Edrik faked a sniffle then, his index and thumb finger curling to pat at fake tears under his eyes. ”You’re so poetic…Just say you didn’t miss me already.”
Edrik frowned slightly then, he hated going over the scores for each of the teams in the league when the Sports Headlines was doing enough of that for them. His hand rose to reach behind his neck, scratching at thin hairs before cupping his nape. ”Sadly. But it’s whatever.” It most definitely wasn’t whatever. He was thinking of transferring to another team for Merlin’s sake! ”Well I never know, you could’ve been purchasing something for one of your cousins. Surely one of them is into Quidditch right?”

Rose just raised an eyebrow when Edrik brought up what his father said about hers. “Because your father was the expert on Ronald Weasley, I totally forgot!” They had shared the castle for all of a year; just because Viktor Krum thought something about her father didn’t mean it was true. Rose was much more inclined to believe the opinions of her mother and her Uncle Harry; even if they were positively biased, they spent more time around her father than Edrik’s father had. Edrik went on to say that Rose was poetic, and to say that she didn’t miss him. Rose rolled her eyes; she wasn’t going to say his simplified version, both because she didn’t want to give him the satisfaction and because it wasn’t true.
“How are the rest of your teammates taking it?” Rose asked. Just because Edrik thought it was “whatever” that his team wasn’t doing as well as he hoped didn’t mean his teammates agreed. Ed want on to ask if one of her cousins was into Quidditch, and Rose raised her eyebrows. “You know Dominique, don’t you?” Last Rose had checked her cousin was on the Arrows with Edrik, but considering her inability to keep up with the sport, maybe something had changed.

LAUGHING, EDRIK NODDED, PRETENDING HIS father was the same wise ass he had been as a younger teenager. ”More like an expert on a certain Granger. The amount of stories I heard about him and your mum, still surprised my mum didn’t divorce him right away.” Nor could he believe the two were still together. A long time for a marriage, that didn’t seem it would end anytime soon. ”Some are okay with us losing…” He began, moving onto the next subject. Edrik shrugged, a hand raising to scratch at the nape of his neck. ”I wish they took it a tad more serious. I think Daniel and I are the ones that are most upset after all.”
Edrik nodded, how could he not know Dominique? She was his fellow team mate and an excellent Beater. ”Yeah. Greatest Beater I’ve seen in a while.”
