march 21, 2025 It was Friday night, but instead of going out and doing something crazy, Jamie had decided to see a show. Not just any show, though: one a friend from school was performing in. It had taken some work for Jamie to figure out where Gabriel was performing without asking him, but she had really wanted her coming to the theatre to be a surprise, and flat-out asking what show he was in would tip him off. The performance had been lovely - Jamie had always enjoyed the character of Spider-Man and was delighted to hear there was an entire musical dedicated to him. Gabriel hadn't been Spider-Man, but his performance had still been spellbinding. If Jamie hadn't known better she would've sworn he'd cast some kind of charm to make her unable to look away from him.
The lights had just come up after the curtain call, and Jamie was pushing her way through the crowd to try to get to the stage door. She was using her body to shield the small bouquet of daisies she had gotten for Gabriel. She had wanted to get roses, but wondered if they were too romantic - especially given her history with Gabriel and their sort-of-but-not-really dating in school. Jamie finally made it to the stage door, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she waited to see if Gabriel would come out.

Gabriel was thrilled, of course, to be in a musical. The last show he had done was a non-musical, playing opposite of Lucy Weasley of all people. He was excited to do some ensemble work to sing and dance. He hoped that the other production of the same show he had auditioned for the week before would lead to him getting cast as Peter Parker, but he wouldn't find out about that for a few more days.
So far only his parents had seen this show, and he wasn't really expecting anyone else to come. Still, he did his tradition of stepping out of the stage door to give a little wave to the audience. But tonight his eyes locked onto a familiar face. "Oh my gosh, he muttered to himself. "Jamie? He asked a little bit louder. He moved through his fellow cast members, until he reached her standing there with the crowd. "Holy cow, what are you doing here!?" he asked excitedly.

Jamie could see Gabriel’s lips move when he first exited the stage door, but she couldn’t properly hear him until he said her name. She gave a little wave with her hand not holding the flowers, waiting until Gabriel was closer to the crowd to talk to him. He got a question in first – asking what she was doing there – and Jamie grinned at him. “I came to see you, of course!” She held the flowers out somewhat awkwardly, once again wondering if daisies were the right choice. “These are for you.” She took a deep breath and shuffled closer to Gabriel, hoping he wouldn’t mind the proximity. Jamie would rather not have anyone else in the crowd of people hear what she said to Gabriel, even if it was a fairly standard congratulations. No one else seemed to be paying much attention to them since the actor who played Spider-Man had just made his appearance, so Jamie took the opportunity to say, “You were really good. I couldn’t stop looking at you.”

She said that she came to see him, her grin as intoxicating as ever. When she presented the flowers, Gabriel's eyes widened. He reached out for them, but didn't have to reach far as she moved closer. He felt his cheeks warming up. Was the stage light heat still affecting him? He looked at the flowers, then lifted his eyes to hers again before leaning in a little closer when she started to speak. He had one hand on the flower stems, and the other gently started to clasp over her knuckles that held the flowers too. "Thanks. Thank you," he repeated, his voice soft. "You wanna... wanna take a walk?" he asked, his voice soft. Somehow she would hear him over the crowd, right? If she didn't, he was sure she wouldn't mind that he pulled the flowers and her toward him a little before starting to use the flowers to tug her away from the crowd.
