April 19, 2025 Kaylee was thrilled that the weather had finally begun to warm up from how cold it had been all winter long. Spring had sprung, and the Flower Festival was underway in a greenhouse larger than any that she had seen before. She made a mental note to tell her mother about it, if she didn't know about the festival already. Being that she was a Herbologist, the two-day event sounded as though it would be a perfect fit for her to meet more people in the United Kingdom.
After arriving by Portkey alongside her Hogwarts peers, Kaylee entered the greenhouse itself. There were so many plants, and that wasn't to mention the other activities that had been set up! She smiled, which widened into a grin as she looked around. She didn't know where to start first, but she didn't think that she could go wrong with any of it. "Isn't this great?" she asked aloud to no one in particular, mouth agape.

Matt had never planned on going to the Flower Festival, but something had told him to go anyways. Hopping through the portkey with other Hogwarts students, he headed towards the greenhouse and looked around. If nothing else this was a bit on the peaceful and relaxing side of things. Shaking his head, he glanced at a few of his school mates before hearing a familiar voice ask a question that drew a chuckle. “Yeah, if you like trying to blend into plants,” he said with a shake of his head before glancing at Kaylee.Tag: kaylee māhealani mahi'ai

April 19, 2025 "Yeah, if you like trying to blend into plants," she heard a voice comment in response to her question. Kaylee turned and saw that it was Matt Johanson who had spoken, and she shook her head with a laugh.
"This isn't Transfiguration class!" she teased him. It was a whole festival of flowers. How could anyone find that boring?! "Look," Kaylee pointed to a sign just ahead of them, arrows in the directions of the different things that there were to do there. "There's vendors, and there's even a petting zoo! Unless they only have Bowtruckles, that's definitely more than just plants."

“Heh, fair enough,” he replied with a laugh. The 6th year girl was among the few Slytherins he ever got along with, and he really didn’t mind that. It was less risk of drama that way. Seeing the signs he pointed to, he chuckled again. “Huh so there is. What’d ya know?” he said with a shrug.Tag: kaylee māhealani mahi'ai

April 19, 2025 Matt said that it was fair enough that they weren't in Transfiguration. As much as Kaylee loved school and learning, she was happy to have a short break from Hogwarts, its grounds, and Hogsmeade. The change of scenery and pace was nice, even if she would have classes again on Monday morning.
"Huh so there is. What'd ya know?" the Gryffindor laughed when she pointed out that there was, in fact, more to do at the festival than try to blend in with all of the plants. While that might have been a fun goal for some people, Kaylee didn't really think that making herself invisible—or at least transparent—was how she wanted to spend her time at the festival. Doing something so silly felt more like wasting time.
She looked back over to Matt. "Do you wanna come check the stuff out with me?" she offered. "There's gotta be something fun here. This place is huge."

notes here. words: #### | "Well... I mean I have nothing better to do, so sure, why not?" he replied with a shrug. He wasn't entirely sure why he agreed, but it was as he said, he had nothing better to do. Not to mention he still wasn't entirely sure why he had gone to the festival in the first place. It was far from something that would normally interest him, but he had come here more or less due to cabin fever. He wanted an excuse to get out and about and this presented him a really good chance to do so. Glancing towards the sign, he then looked over at Kaylee.
"Question now is, which path do we go down?" he asked her as he looked over at each direction the sign pointed towards. He didn't mind looking around shops, but he did feel the petting zoo would be a little childish, even if he was still a teenager at 18, at least based on the teen at the end of his age. It was often humorous to him, knowing he was older than most of those in his year. At the same time he was still among the more quieter people in his year and while he had changed some, that part hadn't completely changed. He wasn't quite sure he could change enough of it before the year ended either, but he wasn't going to stress about it. Not now anyways. multiply life by the power of two |

April 19, 2025 Saying that he had nothing better to do, Matt agreed to go with her to look around at the festival. Even though he might not have been so enthusiastic about the event, he had come to it, and she hadn't even been the one who had persuaded him. That seemed as though it had to have been half the battle right there. He was already at the festival, and he couldn't leave again unless he was back with everyone else, so looking around and finding something to do with that time beat standing around and twiddling his thumbs.
"Question now is," Matt began in response to the signage that pointed them in different directions around the greenhouse, "which path do we go down?"
The petting zoo was probably cute, Kaylee considered, but it also didn't seem like the type of thing that would interest Matt much. The same went for the flower crowns. She examined the sign, thinking. "How about the Gnome Toss?" Kaylee suggested, motioning to the direction indicated by the sign. "I'm not too bad at de-gnoming, so hopefully, like, this is just the same thing?" It was better than using a Jarvey and having it attack the gnomes in the name of gnome control.

notes here. words: #### | "I haven't de-gnomed anything in years. I'll probably be pretty bad at it, but sure, why not?" he replied with a chuckle. He found it weird, he normally didn't laugh at anything, but it was humorous to him, if nothing else. Still, he was needing to focus on what was going to be an inevitable defeat, and that wasn't entirely a bad thing, was it? Still, he had to be somewhat competitive and at least try his best to win. Otherwise people might not take him seriously, and that was something he struggled with at times already due to how fickle some people could really be. He could say this, Kaylee at least didn't seem two-faced, which was encouraging. He was glad there were at least a few people who were the same no matter who was around.

April 19, 2025 "I haven't de-gnomed anything in years," Matt told her. "I'll probably be pretty bad at it, but sure, why not?"
"That's the spirit!" Kaylee grinned, teasing him lightly. She started off in the direction of the Gnome Toss and turned back to look at Matt. "I mean, I'm probably going to suck at it, too," she admitted with a little shrug, though she was still light-hearted about it. It wasn't as though she got practice in that kind of thing whenever she was at school, and she actually couldn't remember the last time she had de-gnomed her yard at home.
"But we won't know unless we try!" she added as a reminder. Even if they were both horrible at it, it was all in good fun. And, if they turned out to be experts at de-gnoming, then they had come away from the Flower Festival with some new knowledge of their abilities.

notes here. words: #### | "Then it's down to who is worse at being terrible?" he asked with a chuckle. It was an odd statement, but it was pretty much what was going to happen. He knew how difficult it was likely going to be just trying to get this right. Yet Kaylee had suggested it, and to Matt that meant he had to give it a shot. Otherwise what was he gonna say to anyone who asked? That he chickened out on Gnome tossing?
"True, so lets just see if either of us can do better than bad," he said with a shrug and another chuckle. Again it came down to who was better than bad, but Matt still wasn't highly confident about this. He already said yes, so backing out wasn't an option. That and he could already imagine the jokes people would be saying. Looking at the area where the gnome toss would occur, he knew full well he was likely to get bit by one of the gnomes, so it was a matter of where he flung the one that tried to bite him.

April 19, 2025 Matt joked that it would have to come down to whichever one of them was “the worst at being terrible”—which was also synonymous with… good. Kaylee appreciated the joke, though; she found it amusing, and it seemed as though Matt was right on the mark. Whether he would be as good with the gnomes was another story, but she nodded with enthusiasm. “Exactly!” she grinned, happy that he was up to the challenge. If either one of them could do better than whatever was going to be viewed as downright horrible gnome tossing, they would be able to call that a win. As much as Kaylee threw herself into everything that she did, even she could get behind the idea of playing for a mediocre score. If she managed to do better relative to Matt, then that was good enough. She was doing it solely for the fun, and it wasn’t as though they were getting graded in how well they did. If that were the case, then she would have been more competitive. That was just how she was. “Yeah! Team Better-Than-Bad!” she proclaimed, giggling. “Let’s go!”

Matt chuckled in response. He was glad she seemed to enjoy the joke, though he wondered if her enthusiasm about the event was all that encouraging. Even still, he mentally began to prepare himself somewhat. He didn't want to be completely terrible at this, but he knew he was going to be pretty bad at it regardless. End of the day he just had to try his best and let that be the deciding factor, right? Hearing her then suggest a team name, he had to prevent himself from doubling over with laughter, a laugh still escaping." That as a team name? That's telling everyone just how bad we're likely to be," he then said with another laugh before adding " still, not bad." Gnome-tossing was already tough from a mental perspective, and yet with a team name like that, it seemed to encourage being better than the low bar they set for themselves. Even still, it was more for fun than any real prize. Being competitive here was unnecessary since there was nothing being handed out to the winners, especially nothing for grades.Tag: kaylee māhealani mahi'ai

"At least we're being honest?" Kaylee joked, smiling. "And 'better than bad' isn't the worst," she pointed out as they continued in the direction of the Gnome Toss, almost there by that point. "Would you rather be Team We're-The-Worst?" she teased him.

" You miss the fact that people would then assume we're far better than what we're saying we are at that point. We're better off saying 'Team Better Than You' if we're going that route," he replied with a laugh. It was easy to see how people would assume differently. Most competitive folks were considered wise for not bragging about how good they were, but rather leaving their opponents the chance to be caught off guard. It was something he'd seen people do and something he'd heard about, so he figured if nothing else they'd be looked at similarly if they said they were the worst. Still, it was worth a laugh, wasn't it?Tag: kaylee māhealani mahi'ai

We're better off saying ‘Team Better Than You’ if we're going that route,” Matt informed her. Kaylee had to concede that he was probably right. “Hmmm…” If the name suggestions that she had tossed around were no good, they would have to come up with something even catchier. “How about…” She thought for a moment. “Team We-Don’t-Know-If-We’re-Gonna-Suck?” Though that one sounded too pessimistic, it was honest.
