She grimaced as the paper wad struck her near the chin. "Hey," she grumbled. "Don't ruin it already. I'm finally starting to tolerate you." As she talked, she tossed the paper wad back towards him. However, she had poor hand-eye coordination and it missed him by a pretty wide margin. Exactly the reason why she played American soccer, and not softball. Maybe he really wasn't so bad after all. Perhaps they had just started off on the wrong foot. Her thoughts fell back on the last time they had seen each other. Perhaps she had overreacted. Her head was still reeling over the greenhouse explosion, when a thought struck her. She propped herself up on her elbows, her waist-long locks hanging all around her. Jessie gave him a quizzical stare for a moment, before she spoke up. "Wait aren't you like... half-vampire?" She thought she had heard that from someone else in their house. To be completely honest, the nosy side was coming out of her. Since her annoyance towards had subsided some, she felt it necessary to learn more about him. "When my finger was bleeding the other day... it didn't bother you any. What's up with that?" Coming from the Muggle world, there was still some things she still didn't know about. Anything other than the human race was still a mystery to her. Not that she had any prejudices... she was just ignorant of the facts sometimes. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025The wad of paper came soaring back at him but missed by a good amount, his eyes watched as it ricocheted off of the arm chair and to the floor. A stoned chuckle slipped passed his lips and he shrugged nonchalantly, too lazy to reach that far for the wad to throw at her again.
Simon wasn't expecting Jessie to ask him such a personal question but it didn't bother him; he appreciated when anyone wanted to learn about vampirism. It was a surprise that Jessie wanted to know anything about him. Some mortals were too scared to educate themselves when they had nothing to be scared of. People were scared when someone was considered 'different'. He nodded in confirmation when she asked if he was half-vampire, further questioning on the incident in the greenhouse. "Well, if I was thirsty it would have been a different story." he gave her a deadpan answer, waiting for a beat before shaking his head from side to side to signify that he wasn't being serious. "Nah, I'm kidding..." he told her, before continuing, "I noticed your finger right away but blood doesn't really bother me...I can't speak for everyone though.." he admitted to her, surprised that they were talking about this. "Half vampires don't have the ability to change humans anyways. We're just thirst at times which makes us irritable or sickly. The worst that could have really happened at the greenhouse was the sight of fresh blood sending me to the hospital wing for a fix." he told her honestly with a shrug. Simon still sat on the floor, legs stretched out from under the table lazily as he sunk his back into the front of the sofa. Simon turned toward her, "Did you think that vampires go on a killing spree at the sight or smell of blood?" he asked her seriously.

Jessie watched Simon intently as he spoke. Her eyes widened when he first mentioned that being thirsty might have provided a different outcome, before it was clear that it was a joke. She eagerly soaked up the knowledge he was comfortably handing out. She was basically hanging on to his every word. It struck her odd that she had never realized that the hospital wing was where he would need to go to quench his thirst for blood. Everything he was explaining to her was absolutely fascinating. As he turned the conversation back around to her, she twisted around so that she was propped up on just her right elbow. Her head rested gently against her right palm, left hand carefully toying with the pillow in front of her. Her eyes met his before she shrugged, "I didn't think anything really. I'm Muggleborn, you know." Her eyes veered away from his at that moment. It was a trying time for Muggleborns currently, and she wasn't sure she wanted to get into that at the moment. "I've always been in awe of the other creatures and races that live among us in the Wizarding World. Of course, I knew that Muggle movies and books weren't the best source for vampire information. So I refrained from drawing conclusions. Until now, I guess I just never really thought about it."
Her eyes fell back on him, waiting to see what he was going to say next. It was like she was eager to hear him speak again. She couldn't believe that they were having such a serious discussion. Jessie didn't want to admit it... but talking to him was almost too easy. When she wasn't furious at him, of course. She was sure that this was a fleeting feeling though. It was probably only because he was high. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Simon could feel Jessie looking at him. It felt awkward when he noticed, but he pushed the feeling away because he figured things were just feeling weird because he wasn't used to Jessie paying attention to him in a respectful way. Simon wasn't sure if he was so high that he was imagining this, or maybe they were having some sort of breakthrough.. Whatever it was was better than writing that paper they were supposed to be doing.
It was hard not to stare at his artwork painted on her forehead when she spoke. She mentioned how she was a Muggleborn, which he hadn't known because he didn't pay attention to those kind of things normally. The half vampire could tell by her tone and the way she looked away that it was a sensitive subject for her. He shook his head when she said 'you know', "Heh. Now I know.." he said with a playful smirk this time, it wasn't meant to get a rise out of her, he was just being honest. Simon kind of curious now. "As a Muggleborn, have you noticed a difference in how elitists treat those that are 'different' since coming to the UK?" he asked her, knowing magic folk were more 'traditional' in Europe, so she probably had to deal with some sort of discrimination herself being raised by Muggles.
She expressed her interest in different beings and creatures in the wizarding world which was something that Simon could appreciate, even from someone who normally annoyed him. Whenever people wanted to learn more about vampires and choose not to be ignorant from fear, it was something he respected. Jessie was a nerd, he'd bet money that she was making mental notes about vampires as he spoke. Simon sank a bit deeper against the sofa, getting really comfortable now. "I'm glad you haven't taken the Muggles adaptation of vampirism too seriously because they've got it all wrong. Well, except the aversion to garlic part - we hate garlic." he admitted with a rare smile. Simon figured he'd share, "Changing isn't as simple as a bite.. It's more of a ritual. There's dying, well, almost, and blood swapping going on.." he explained, wondering if it would gross Jessie out so he watched her expression. Simon hadn't seen anyone transform before, which was a shame, but his father told him about it because he changed his mother after begging for twenty years.

Jessie felt his eyes on her forehead. She suddenly remembered the ink splotch on her forehead, and tried to wipe it with her sleeve. A slight shiver ran through her body, as she listened to his question. It was a great question, one that required a few moments of thought. While she an answer marinante in her head, she mutter, "Accio Blanket." As her blanket came soaring towards them, she stood up in preparation to catch it. It landed softly in her hand, as she made herself comfortable on the couch instead of the floor. She figured since they were taking a break from working, she might as well be cozy with her blanket on the couch. With a satisfied hum, she gave him her attention again. "To answer your question. I don't know a lot about American wizard culture. I came here from the start... My family thought it was better if I were here instead of Ilvermorny." Her eyes fell away from his once more. She didn't want to talk about that either. Not with him anyway. " But if we could expand the definition of 'elitist' away from the Wizarding World, then it's almost worse at home. Because of racism and stuff, you know." Jessie didn't feel it was necessary to extrapolate on that subject. He could probably get the jist of what she was saying. She drew her blanket covered knees up to her chest, arms resting atop them. She listened more, as he fed her more information about his kind. Jessie let a small laugh out when he mentioned the garlic bit. That was a pity. She loved good pasta and garlic. When he finished speaking, her thinking face came back to the surface. "So, where does the blood in the hospital wing come from?"

March 2025Jessie explained that her parents had sent her to Hogwarts instead of Ilvermorny from the beginning, which he found a slight surprise, one that couldn't be hidden from his face. His eyebrows quirked upwards as he nodded his head up and down, "Ohh. I guess I kind of assumed you came with the rest of the Ilvermorny kids..." Simon admitted, unsure of why he was being so honest. "You'd probably be more familiar with the UK culture then I am then, I came here from Durmstrang year four." he told her more conversational. Simon had noticed her get cozy on the sofa, curling up with her blanket. That along made his eyelids droopier. "Where from the states are you from?" he asked her, growing more curious about his lab partner now. Simon yawned, shielding it with the back of his hand. "Blood donors. As well as animals." he explained as matter of factly. "Well, I guess animals don't really 'donate', they don't really have a choice.." he shrugged with a dark laugh and snort after he thought about what he said for a second.

She yawned, just as he asked her what state she was from. "Georgia," she murmured, fighting back another yawn. She knew that his accent was not one formed in this part of the world. Nonetheless, finding out that he came from Durmstrang was a shock to her from some reason. "Why'd you come here?" she asked, not at all caring if it was a probing question. Though, if she were asked that same question, she would be uncomfortable answering. Her eyelids sagged lower as she listened to him still. Though his conversation was stimulating, she was struggling to fight the need to sleep. Another yawn caused her mouth to pop open before she asked, "Is animal blood just as satisfying? Or, does it meet your needs?" Again, asking a question that might be crossing a line. Jessie was sure some would be frightened, or even disgusted to be talking about such a subject. She loved it, however. Being Muggleborn meant that she always had something more to learn about the wizarding world. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Simon nodded when she said she was from Georgia. Honestly, he wasn't sure where in the states that was. She followed by asking where he was from, "Sweden." he answered, yawning again, probably because Jessie was yawning. As she asked about why he was transferred, he shrugged, "My parents wanted to relocate their business to London." he said with a nonchalantly. Simon liked Hogwarts more than Durmstrang, it was a lot less strict, and less cold. She went to Hogwarts instead of Ilvermorny, which was a bit odd, so he sleepily asked, "What about you?"
After a moment Jessie asked if animal blood satisfied the same as animal blood. Not many people asked these kind of questions.. Simon didn't care, but he was starting to get tired. He shook his head from side to side, "No, it's honestly not as satisfying." he told her, since she asked. "One is basically like filet mignon, while the other is pan fried petrol station steak." Simon said with a sleepy laugh, knowing he was being a little dramatic, but he would get the point across.
He closed his eyes for a moment and went silent, sinking into his highness and enjoying the darkness of his eyelids. Uh oh. This was too comfortable.

Ah, Sweden. Suddenly his accent made sense. Her eyes drooped farther down. Legs falling flat against the couch, she found herself snuggling deeper into her blanket. "Sweden is so far," she mumbled sleepily. Truthfully, she would love to visit a Scandinavian country one day. As Simon continued, her eyelids finally fell shut. Maybe she was delirious from being tired, but his voice was soothing. It practically dragging her into sleep. Eyes still closed, she giggled when he said 'petrol' station. "Is that a gas station?" she mumbled. Whether or not he answered, Jessie didn't know. Her thoughts became incoherent, and her train of thought derailed. Before she knew it, her consciousness had slipped away. She slept soundly, unaware and unbothered that she wasn't in her bed. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Simon thought he responded 'Yes' to the petrol station question, but he wasn't sure as he drifted off into dreamland, and consciousness slipped further, and further away. He didn't hear Jessie say anything after that. Full vampires were nocturnal and typically wouldn't have any trouble staying awake, but Simon being a half vamp...his human half was incredibly lazy. He was convinced he was a lazy house cat in a past life.
Hours later...
Sunlight streamed in through the curtains of the common room. The fire had died hours ago in the fireplace, their work lay scattered throughout the room, crumbles of paper littering the floor. Simons eyes flickered open at the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs to see a first year heading to breakfast... Odd. The lanky teen rubbed his eyes, confusion setting in as he realized he wasn't in his bed. Simon had somehow fallen asleep sitting up, hugging a pillow in his arms. As he turned around to assess his surroundings, heading snapping around to fall upon Jessie, who was sleeping soundly directly behind him. She looked kind of cute when she slept - the ink smeared across her forehead was a great touch. That would probably stain.. "Oh, f-ck." he chuckled at the sight, before pushing himself off of the floor and calling out to the lioness, "Jessie wake up." Simon said, instantly feeling awkward. They definitely didn't get any work done last night, she probably wouldn't be happy about that.

Jessie's eyes fluttered behind her closed lids. Someone was trying to rouse her from sleep. Her nose scrunched up in annoyance. Usually she would ask Eve to wake her up if she were oversleeping. That must be who was calling to her. "Eve, I'll get up in a second. I promise," she mumbled. She forced her eyes to slowly open, squinting at the amount of sunlight filtering into the room. Confusion immediately set in, as she took in her surroundings. When her brown eyes landed on Simon, she sat up in horror. "No. Oh no. No no no no no. Please tell me I did not fall asleep in here beside you," she said, practically begging him to have another explanation at hand. "Someone could have seen us!" Her hands rested her on forehead, the realization threatening to give her a headache already. Suddenly her head snapped in his direction, fury evident in her eyes. "I hope you're happy! We didn't get any work done." She sprung from her spot on the couch, nostrils flaring in rage. "Was this your plan?" she screeched, throwing her arms out wide, gesturing towards the balled up papers and materials. She couldn't believe that he had set them back yet again. Jessie stopped around, throwing her things back into her bag. "You are intolerable," she said, stopping only to point a finger at him, before going back to packing her things. She was too angry to notice how his mussed hair still looked so good, and too angry to remember how much she enjoyed their conversation last night. Everything nice and wonderful about him or their interactions was temporarily forgotten in her rage. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Simon wasn't prepared for Jessie to come out of the gates so hot. Her eyes opened and she was already screaming at him! The half vampire stepped back, bracing himself as he watched in awe as she yelled at him, blaming the entire night on unproductivity on him. And to go as far to show her disapproval of being caught seen with him. That alone rubbed him the wrong way. Simon scoffed, "You have screamining insecurities if you're truly that concerned about what people think of you." he told her with a spiteful eye roll, trying not to take offense. Not only was she being incredibly rude, this wasn't only his fault - she fell asleep too!
His head cocked to the side as he waited for her to finish her tangent. Rubbing his eyes sleepily, he shook his head at her. Did she forget about their talk last night? Maybe them getting along was all a sick dream. Simon picked up a couple of crumbled papers, tossing them into the rubbish bin. He stacked his books more to make him look busy before responding with a sigh. "Yeah, sure. Whatever makes you feel better, Jessie." he told her sarcastically, already losing his patience too early in the morning. His mouth opened as he added, "I'm only here to sabotage your perfect grade." Simon stated nonchalantly as he nodded his head in agreement, keeping a straight face to annoy her. Upsetting Jessie wasn't his intention originally, but now she wasn't being very pleasant he didn't feel the need to play nice.

As Simon started in on her, Jessie gripped a paper wad tight in her tiny hand. She scoffed at his words. "Please, at least I care about my grades." With it still in her hand, she put her hands on hips and gave him a furious look. "From the very start of this assignment, you couldn't have made it any clearer that you didn't give a damn about this project!" she hollered. She threw the crumbled paper wad to the ground, before running both her hands through her hair. The emotion in her eyes was a combination of despair and fury. She was at a lost while working with him, and frustrated that she couldn't make it work. "I am the only one trying! I mean, you've made it impossible to work with you! Waking up late to get the Chomping Cabbage, and then throwing it on the ground!" The desperation in her voice hung in the air like a thick cloud of smoke. She was aware that her voice had started to rise in volume, but she didn't care. She was just beginning to air out her grievances concerning him. He was infuriating. Jessie just knew that Simon was purposely doing this. She just knew it. However, despite the rise in volume, and the inability to remain calm, she was seriously trying to avoid a catastrophic outburst. It took everything within her to not to chuck the paper wads and textbooks at him. Instead, she stood with her fist clenched. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025It was too early for this. Simon couldn't believe how pissed off Jessie was and she barely had her eyes open for a few minutes. The Lion's blood was already beginning to boil, he bounced back and forth on the balls of his feet until she stopped talking. Some of her words were true, he didn't care about school, or the assignment, but he honestly didn't feel like the chomping cabbage incident was his fault! She had touched it first, and the cabbage was angry, so they wouldn't have even been able to use it for their potion. It bit her and she told him to help her, so there was the solution... Probably not the best at the time, but who knew cabbages could draw blood.
Ruffling his hair with a hand, he shrugged his shoulders, "I care about my grades. Just not as much as you do, Jessie." he told her with an eye roll, knowing she didn't really care. He had to care about his grades enough for quidditch, but that was honestly it. "We'll figure it out, freaking out about it isn't going to solve anything." Simon said trying to keep a calm tone. He could tell that Jessie was easily agitated, he didn't want to trigger her any further. His eyes fell down to her hands at her sides, noticing her fists were bunched up into little balls. Merlin, she was like an angry puppy. "I find it equally terrifying and humorous how quickly you are to open your eyes and be so pissed." he stated dryly with a laugh. Okay, maybe that wasn't the smartest thing to say but Simon did find it kind of hilarious.

Her face had reddened at this point, feeling the weight of his eyes on her. Nonetheless, what Simon said pissed her off, making her eyes flicker with rage. The whole ordeal probably was hilarious. Merlin, there was no telling what her hair looked like. That just added to the hilarity of the situation. He couldn't take anything seriously. A small bit of pride welled up in her when he mentioned her being terrifying, though. "See? I'm trying to talk to you right now, and you can't help but to make a snarky comment!" she said, taking an angry step toward him. As if it would urge him to take things seriously. "You drive me crazy! Until I had to spend time with you, I was never this way!" Jessie wasn't sure if she was upset because he didn't seem to care, or that he wasn't getting angry right back at her. Truth be told, she felt guilty for being so volatile towards him. At least if he was yelling back, she wouldn't feel so bad about riding his case. She almost cared about hurting his feelings... almost. simon sixten svendsen
