notes here. @jessiemeadows words: #### | Matt was not normally one for studying, but he was more than sure he wanted to get through this school year with grades high enough to be approved for Auror internship. That meant he was going to be hitting the books, even in the library. Being there wasn't something he'd do in his free time, but there was a lot he would and wouldn't do during his free time. Thing was, this wasn't his free time and that meant studying. Shaking his head, he let thoughts of discontent go as he looked over his current assignment. This wasn't something easy, but it had to get done, even if the books he was using to help him seemed to take him too far from the answer despite what the teacher had suggested. It was a bit on the frustrating side, but he had to keep looking. There was something there he could use, he just had to keep looking...
...Which he did for a solid hour before leaning back in his chair, letting out an exasperated sigh as he looked over the notes he had managed to write down. There was just not enough time in the day to deal with books that weren't being all that helpful for this assignment. That and he needed some sort of a break as he looked up and around the library. There were a few people here and there, doing their own assignments and research, which in his mind made sense. Shaking his head, he looked back down before turning his head as he saw someone starting to approach him.

Jessie hadn't even sat down yet, and her brain was swarming with ideas for her Potions assignment. She was never very good at making decisions, so having to choose her own potion to brew was a task that she wasn't much looking forward to. Merlin, she could already feel a headache coming on. She ran a hand through her hair, already promising herself a sweet treat from the kitchens once she was through working.
She huffed as she adjusted the bag on her shoulder. Her books were growing heavier by the second, as she tread through the library. Her favorite spot was just around the corner thankfully. As she rounded the corner, the little Lioness noticed that her spot was already occupied. No worries, she thought to herself. Just another person to make friends with. A small smile danced across the lips as she approached the boy. "Mind if I join you?" she asked, making sure not to intrude.

notes here. @jessiemeadows words: #### | "Um no, not at all," he replied, moving some stuff out of the way for her to set her things down. He immediately thought about where he had seen her before, thinking he had seen her around quite a bit. His first thought was that they were both Gryffindors, which was immediately the most likely option. He just didn't know her name, though he couldn't say he knew everyone's name. He had been gone a year at Illvermorny, and that meant a lot of people were forgotten just due to the people he met in America. He wasn't sure if she was even someone he had crossed paths with before, but he was sure he wasn't going to avoid conversation with her. Then again that was the norm for him, wasn't it? He gets back from America and now almost everyone seems to want to talk to him. Was that even a good idea?

Jessie eyed him discreetly as she set her stuff down on the tabletop. The boy looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place his face. Before planting herself down in a chair, she grabbed her books and parchment out of her bag. She sighed in relief, glad to be sitting soon. If only she had completed this assignment last night, like she had planned. However, she had stayed up late talking to the girls in her dormitory, giggling and laughing the night away. What a typical sleepover it was.
As she sat, she held a hand out towards him. "I'm Jessie. I'm a sixth year, in Gryffindor," she prompted, giving him a wide smile. Better to just get the introductions over with, she thought to herself. Perhaps she would figure out why he looked so familiar. It bothered her a little, that she couldn't identify who he was. The young Gryffindor prided herself on knowing everyone. Well, everyone in Hogwarts anyway. Then again, it was exciting to meet someone new. One of the many pleasures of life.

s'all good . @jessiemeadows words: #### | "Matt, 7th year Gryffindor. Odds are we've seen each other in passing around the common room or in the Great Hall. We just never interacted," he noted with a shrug, answering out loud questions of his own. He really wasn't sure if that was entirely accurate, but he was going to find out one way or another at this point. Still, it was good to know that there was a better than even chance he had seen her around the Gryffindor tower, but due to his somewhat withdrawn nature, he rarely made the decision to interact with others. He was wanting to change that yes, but he still couldn't entirely be sure about things. He knew why he was withdrawn, but he couldn't let fears keep him trapped could he? After all, doing so was the equivalent of giving control of his life to his mother's killer.

She nodded, still giving him a kind smile. "Lovely to meet you then. It's a pity we've never talked before," she let on, a little chagrined. Jessie hoped that she hadn't accidentally ignored him at one point in time. That wasn't like her, so it was improbable that was the case. She pulled her notes and texts out of her bag, maintaining her attention on Matthew. "So, whatcha studying for?" she asked, hoping they were both working on a similar subject. She wouldn't mind having a partner to work with.
Regardless, she was determined to make a new friend out of Matthew. She loved talking to, and at, everyone who could stand her. Sometimes she'd drone on and on without realizing she was exhausting the person in front of her. Occasionally she would get hit with reality, suddenly understanding that she was being a nuisance. Then a flood of guilt would rush through her, minimizing her need to talk. For a bit.

notes here. @jessiemeadows words: #### | "Likewise," he replied with a nod, admittedly a bit surprised he hadn't really spotted her before for sure. Then again even as a wallflower he didn't see everything, and he was likely to be the first to admit that. He was glad that he was meeting someone new, as he was working to step away from being a wallflower and be more social. That had been his dad's encouragement, what with his sister's issues and all, but he was certain that there would be little chance of him needing to be so guarded. He had disagreed on that actually, pointing out that the caution would likely keep people alive, but his dad didn't let him continue to argue. He wouldn't live in fear, and that was the end of it.
"Defense Against the Dark Arts. It's an essay over different hexes and curses that aren't among the forbidden curses. It hasn't been an easy one to write, but I'm supposed to highlight the dangers and possible side effects of each one and what the best course of defense against them are," he replied with a sigh. He needed to know this, and he knew it was assigned to encourage learning outside of the classroom, but he wasn't a fan of how tedious it was. He would've preferred a less research-heavy assignment. Of course his father would then point out that such assignments were necessary in preparing for the work an Auror would have to do on a case.
