april 27, 2025 It had been a long, tiring week, maybe even the longest week of Oscar's life - which was saying something, considering the amount of endless weeks he had had. At the end of it all, he had a decision. He was going to stay. He had to stay, if no other reason than because he was sure he'd regret it if he didn't. Staying didn't mean much without telling the person he was staying for, though. Telling Anna was nerve wracking. Lucy had promised she would want him, but Oscar was sure she was wrong sometimes, just like everyone else. And even if Anna was happy, this wasn't a permanent solution. Coming to England wasn't going to magically bring his memories back from the vault they were locked in. At least if he was here, though, he could make new ones.
Ozzy had sent Anna a short owl asking her to meet him where the flower festival had been held. It had since been packed up, but Hogsmeade was permanent. Maybe with enough time Oscar could recover a snatch of something that had happened here in the past, but right now he was focusing on the present. He had a bouquet of white flowers clutched tightly in his hands as he stood in his appointed meeting spot and waited.

Anna definitely wasn't expecting the owl from Oscar. She wasn't sure if he'd want to talk to her at all after their encounter the other day at the flower festival. Of course, her world was turned upside-down, but at least she remembered! He couldn't remember her at all, she could only imagine the confusion he was going through. It'd probably be easier for him to simply go home and forget about it, so she told herself that was what Oscar was going to do. It wasn't that she thought he wanted to hurt her or anything, but ... if she got her hopes up that he'd stay she was pretty sure it would break her if he didn't. So she planned for him to leave, resisting the urge to send him an owl the night after she ran into him again. Bombarding him wouldn't help, she was sure. So when she got the owl, Anna stared at it for ages. Eventually the owl nipped at her, urging her to take the letter, and Anna jumped into action. He wanted to meet with her? Part of her was excited and hopeful at the idea of meeting with Oscar, the other part of her ... told herself to just wait and see what happened. She apparated to the village, eyes searching for him. When she saw him, holding a bouquet of white flowers, Anna approached with a hesitant smile. "Hey Oscar," she greeted, stopping once she reached him. "So, you wanted to meet with me?" Obviously he did, but she didn't know how else to start the conversation with him. @oscar

Oscar noticed Anna as soon as she approached him – obviously he did, because he was looking for her, and that red hair was unmistakable anyways. His palms suddenly felt extremely sweaty, and he cleared his throat nervously when she greeted him. “Hello, Anna.” He held the flowers out to her awkwardly. “These are for you.” She asked if he wanted to meet with her, and Oscar nodded. He felt like he ought to say more to her before he jumped in and announced he was going to stay in England, but what more was there to say?
“I have been thinking about… everything,” Oscar said slowly, trying to pick his words well. He felt like was flubbing it already, but there was really only so many ways to say it. “And I want to stay here. With you.” He swallowed hard. “I do not remember my life here, but I know… I know I was happy. And you were happy. And maybe we could be happy again?” It wasn’t much, but Oscar couldn’t offer any more – he didn’t know how.

Oscar greeted her, holding out the flowers and Anna smiled as she took them from her. It was a really sweet gesture, definitely something that the old Oscar would do ... but she needed to stop comparing the two. This Oscar didn't remember the other one, didn't remember her. It was unfair to expect him to do things the way her Oscar would have. She was about to try and come up with something to say. For some reason, Anna didn't feel comfortable with there being silence between them, but he broke it before she could. He said he'd been thinking a lot and she nodded, having no idea where he was going with this, but then he said that he wanted to stay with her and Anna froze, staring at him. He really said that, right? She hadn't imagined it somehow? She felt a slow smile slip onto her face. "So ... you want to stay here," she repeated, just trying to make herself register it. She nodded, smile growing, "Thank you Oscar." It was amazing how much power he had just with those words. It was like a huge weight was being taken from her, even though he still didn't remember everything. He wasn't leaving, and she was happy about that. "Do you have somewhere to stay yet? We ... have a house. I mean, I've been living with Lucy in her apartment, but if you wanted you could stay there and maybe later ..." If he'd even want that. Maybe he already had some plans. She didn't want him to feel pressured, Anna just wanted to help, however she could. @oscar

Oscar nodded when Anna repeated his words, saying he wanted to stay. “I want to stay.” The more he said it the truer it felt. He wanted to stay, and not just for Anna. He deserved a new start, away from all the ghosts France held for him. He deserved to be a place where there were people who loved him, even if he didn’t remember loving them back. It was like starting over, but starting over with a boost – with people who would catch him when he fell. It was like nothing Oscar had ever had before, and it seemed wrong to waste that opportunity.
“I had not figured that out yet,” Oscar admitted when Anna asked if he had a place to stay. He blinked, somewhat shocked, when she said they had a house. His conversation with Lucy had led him to believe the Weasley girls were living together – which Anna corroborated, saying they were living in an apartment together – but he hadn’t ever imagined having a house. “I… I would like to stay there, if you do not mind.” Maybe staying someplace that was covered in reminders of Anna would help him somehow. Maybe then he would remember.

He repeated that he wanted to stay and Anna smiled as relief and excitement flooded through her. He seemed to be completely serious and it was a relief. She wanted to be with him again. He was alive! That was more than she'd hoped for over the past few months. Of course, there was the problem of him not remembering her, but if he wanted to stay maybe they'd be able to find a way to help him remember, right? Was it weird that she was happy he hadn't found somewhere to stay yet? Not that she would have been disappointed if he had, she just liked the chance to help him. She wanted to make a good impression, especially since he didn't remember her. "Of course I don't mind. I haven't stayed there in ... a while. I can take you there and show you around if you want." The place was probably covered in dust. Maybe she'd have to go over before she showed it to him, unless he wanted to go right now. He knew she wasn't living there though, so the dust wouldn't be completely unexpected. She hadn't been there since before she went off to find Oscar in France. When she and Lucy got back, Anna hadn't been in the right state of mind to get her things, so her sister had. She thought about going back but hadn't been able to convince herself to. @oscar

Anna said she didn’t mind if he stayed in the house, then added she hadn’t stayed there in a while. Oscar’s chest tugged unpleasantly. Of course she wouldn’t have wanted to stay in their home if she thought him dead. She said she could take him there, and Oscar nodded. It would feel less like an invasion if she showed him around first. He didn’t want to feel like he was pushing her out of her home, even if she didn’t want to be there in the first place.
“I also… wanted to ask about us.” He didn’t know how to bring up that subject, either, but it needed to be addressed, especially now that he knew he was staying. Oscar wanted to ask what Anna wanted from him, but he wasn’t that bold. He didn’t know what to ask if not that, though, and he cleared his throat. “I… I do not mind starting over. But I want to know what you want.” Lucy had seemed adamant this would make her happy, and he would make her happy, but asking Anna was the only way to know for sure.

Anna felt almost giddy about the new situation with Oscar. He was staying in England. He wanted to stay in their house, and it seemed like he might want to spend more time with her. It was more than she'd let herself hope for over the past few days. "Okay, when do you want me to take you there?" she asked, not sure if he wanted that now or if he needed to do something else first. Then he said he had a question about them. Anaya stopped breathing for a moment as she waited to hear what his question was. "Okay," she said after a second when he didn't explain. What did he want to ask her? He spoke again, but didn't ask a question. He just said he wanted to know what she wanted. Anna paused. "I ... I want to be around you and get to know you again ..." Was that what he was asking? She wasn't sure, but Anna did want to be with him. She wanted it more than anything else she could think of. @oscar

Anna asked when he wanted to go to the house, and Oscar raised his shoulder in a half-hearted shrug. He wasn’t sure he wanted to spend the rest of the day haunted what ghosts of what had been, but at the same time, he had to recognize confronting the memories of who he used to be was the only way for him to step forward. “Whenever is convenient for you,” he added verbally, in case Anna hadn’t seen his shrug. That was a big thing for him, too – he had already turned Anna’s life upside down by returning, and he didn’t want to cause her further stress.
Anna’s response to his not-question was to say she wanted to be around him, and get to know him, and Oscar nodded. “That… I would like that, too.” He reached for Anna’s hand hesitantly, honestly unsure of whether or not she would take it.

It was hard for Anna to read this version of Oscar. He was Oscar, the man she loved, but at the same time he was someone else. He didn't remember her, which meant that he didn't react to things the same way when he was around her. She could get used to that though. For him. Oscar was worth it to her. She loved him and wanted to be with him. Always. "We can go now. Just ... no one's been there in a while so it's probably a bit dusty." She offered an apologetic smile, not sure how he would react to that. "If you're okay with that we can go now." And if he did mind ... she'd take care of it tonight. He said he would like to get to know her back and Anna smiled, accepting his offered hand and squeezing him gently. "I'm glad. I think we'll figure this out." Somehow. Even if it was hard and it took years, that was worth it to her. Oscar was worth it to her. @oscar
