Nostalgia wasn't a sensation that Victoire necessarily loved experiencing, but it had been happening to her a lot lately. Why? Because she was actually letting romance back into her life a little. That was one of the things she had given up to get where she was now. Junior Assistant to the Minister of Magic, and one day, she hoped to become the Minister herself. She had made the right decision letting Teddy go, hadn't she?
But she lost so much more than just Teddy when she told him it was over. She lost good friends. No, she lost great friends. Nathan crossed her mind as her fingers hovered over the History of Magic edition she had used as a student. She was looking through the clearance and old books section of Flourish & Blotts. She let a little chuckle escape her lips as she remembered the time when she had lost her History book. She was a little first year, frantically searching the Great Hall where a number of students were studying, playing chess and snacking. Teddy had, of course, agreed to help her look for it. She had scribbled her name on the inside cover.
"Hey, hey. We'll find it Vic, don't worry," he said in that soothing voice he always had with her, ever since they were children. Then, Teddy pulled a dark haired boy beside him. "Nates gonna help us look, right Nate?" Teddy smiled at his friend. That was the moment Vic first met Nathan Devereux and they became fast friends.
She sighed as the memory played through her mind. She missed her friends, she really did. She didn't really have any close friends at the moment, except for Odette. And Sebastian... but did that even count? Ugh, he was the reason she was being nostalgic in the first place. She had been seeing him constantly as a co-worker for a long time, but had only been seeing him as... something more for a few days. She didn't have any friends she could talk to about it, either. No one else would understand that when she kissed Seb she always thought about Teddy on the way home. No one could understand how much she missed Teddy, and how much she couldn't tell him that. How stubborn she was.

Flourish & Blott's...how the cozy space of the bookshop brought back memories...Reminiscing about the old days was a particular pastime Nate always valued. Thinking back at how life was, was sometimes the best way to relive happy memories. Throughout his life, Nate had created a host of joyful memories that were all worth cherishing. Many of these moments took place in a truly magical place he had loved as a child; Hogwarts. For him the magic of Hogwarts didn't begin when the creepy, crinkled hat was put on his head and it screamed 'Gryffindor'. It began here in Diagon Alley where a black haired boy was first exposed to the magical world while shopping for school supplies.
Flourish & Blott's was one of the first shops Nate dragged his parents into upon stepping into Diagon Alley. He loved books and he was curious to see what kind of books the wizarding world read. Walking into the shop that day it was packed with people and the shelves were stacked high with books of all different shapes and sizes. It was a nerds heaven and Nate could clearly remember the amazement on his face all those years ago.
Now here he was. Back all these years later, but not for the same reason of course. On request of his little brother, Nate was in Diagon Alley looking for a book Elias had lost somewhere at school. Greeting the clerk at the counter, Nate querried on where he could find the book. "Straight down there in the clearance and old books section." the clerk directed him and with a thank you Nate ventured further into the shop to look for the book. Walking through the narrow aisles of towering books, Nate smiled at the fondness of the place. Not much had changed about it over the years which was surprising considering how much the rest of the world had changed.
Stepping into the clearance and old books section the image that greeted Nate was something he was not expecting in a million years. Victoire in her blonde glory stood there looking at one of the books in the shelf. Something inside of Nate nearly died at the sight of her. He was stopped dead in his tracks and he was looking straight at her.
Maybe he could still turn around and get out of here before she noticed. Was that an option? Nate had been avoiding her for so long now that the thought of talking to her scared him. He was feeling guilty more than anything. He was the one who cut the connection between the two of them. Her break up with Teddy wasn't easy on her, he could see it whenever they ran into each other. That was when she needed a shoulder to cry on and Nate neglected her all because of some dumb bro code. Then Teddy left and it was pretty much over for their relationship.
He needed to fix that now. It couldn't go on any longer. It wasn't fair to Vic. The poor girl probably felt alone and abandoned. Like someone once said 'There isn't a better time like now.' so stepping forward, Nate quietly made his way over to her. As he stood next to her he looked at where her hand was placed.
The history book that was under her palm was an immediate reminder of the day he met Victoire. The small first year looking for the book she had lost somewhere in the Common Room. He remembered the day as if it were yesterday and he also remembered finding the book under one the couches. 'Here you go, Vic. I'm Nate, by the way.' He recalled telling her with a wide grin as he handed the book over to her.
"You were so scared that day." Nate spoke quietly from beside Vic in the shop. "I wonder what you would've done if Teddy and I didn't come to the rescue." he joked with a gentle smile.

Victoire slipped the book off of the shelf in order to admire it a little more closely. It didn't last, though. She felt her heart pound into a rock at the base of her throat when she heard Nates voice beside her. She ripped her conciousness out of the past and into the much more unpleasant future. She didn't turn to look at him as she spoke, "I was. First week of school and I had already lost a book..." she shook her head in disbelief at her younger self, "I thought I would die right there. I guess I was lucky to have you." Her voice was monotone, almost lifeless as she talked to the man who was once the boy who had found her history book.
Did she even want to talk with Nate? He had clearly chosen his side when she and Teddy broke up. Heck, Vic lost most of her friends after that. Not that she didn't understand why. Vic was the one who ended it. Teddy was more likeable than she, and a much better friend. He, at least, stuck around for those he loved. Well, that was until he bailed for however many years after the break up. Still, Victoire and Nate had grown incredibly close. He had been a shoulder to cry on more than once. Sometimes she'd even go to him instead of Ted, because she didn't want Teddy to always be seeing her moments of weakness.
Victoire often pretended she was just fine after the break up, especially in public. But every time she saw Nate, she felt the little girl inside of her needing a friend. But he stopped being that for her about the same time she stopped asking. That was his choice, and she was used to it now. A large part of her was still furious with him for choosing Teddy over her. Or, to be more accurate, why couldn't he just have remained friends with both of them? No, she couldn't blame Nate for that. She and Teddy had put him in a very delicate situation. He had to act. Vic shouldn't be mad that she didn't make the cut.
Still, she didn't turn to face Nate as she sighed, replacing the book on the shelf, "What brings you down here?" the sentence was a tad more venomous sounding that Vic had intended, but she wasn't going to apologize.

Going over to her Nate didn't know what to expect. All those years ago their relationship seemed to go nowhere but up. It was a blossoming flower that grew with every moment they shared together but now that flower had wilted due to years of negligence. Never did he think he'd talk to her again. Though, she was always on his mind. He constantly worried about her well-being. She was the single thought in Nate's life that always seemed to creep its way back into his head every time he tried boxing it up and locking it away. And now standing next to her, he wondered if their friendship could still be revived.
'I was. First week of school and I had already lost a book...I thought I would die right there. I guess I was lucky to have you.' Her tone was one of no emotion as she spoke, but the message it relayed was icy and so venomous that it stung. Nate had never seen this side of Vic before. He knew her as the smart, hard-headed, tough girl, but this was a completely different side to the girl he once saw as a close friend. She wouldn't even look at him for that matter which made the small smile on his lips quickly fade. He wasn't sure if this change was as a result of him or if this was the new her, after all he hadn't talked to her for months.
Whatever this was, Nate felt like he was to be blamed for it all. Vic was angry and she had every right to be. She didn't walk out on their friendship, he did. She didn't start the ignoring, he did. He had so many chances to fix what had happened between them yet he didn't. Those run ins they had at the Ministry, the time their paths crossed at that coffee shop in France, and not to mention that time they had to share an elevator. So many opportunities and Nate couldn't get himself to talk to her. What compelled him to talk to her now was a lot guilt, especially now that Teddy was back, but he mostly just wanted his friend back.
"I'm here to get a book Elias lost at school." Nate said, noticing the viciousness in her voice as she asked what he was doing in the shop. By the sounds of it he had a lot to make up for but he was willing to do anything. "Vic...I know I'm probably the last face you want to see at the moment, but I can't let what's going on between us go on any longer." Nate began as he stepped in front of her. He knew the move was bold considering how hands on Vic could get, specifically with her spellwork, but he didn't care. He needed to get his point across whether she liked it or not. "Look I messed up. Things should have never ended the way the way they did and I'm so sorry... After avoiding you for so long words became lost and I just didn't know how to approach you anymore. We became strangers and I hated that Vic... he paused as he looked her in the eyes.
"It took A LOT to confront you today, but I remembered how things used to be and I couldn't let that all go because of my own trivial reasons...I ruined a friendship with my favorite blonde in the world and I just hope that she can forgive me." he said with a soft smile. "Please?" Every word was coated in the sincerity of his apology. In that moment a heavy load was lifted from his shoulders and even if she didn't forgive he'd go to sleep knowing he accomplished something that day.

Elias, Brians little brother. He was currently in Slytherin, Victoires old house. "Guess the snakes have a knack for losing books," this was her attempt at a joke but her tone was flat and unfeeling. She let him start his apologies, but didn't turn to look at him yet. She kept her hand on the book in front of her but wasn't even paying attention to it anymore. In fact, he was stepping in front of her, making it hard to ignore him. She did a good job though-not making eye contact, maintaining her posture and her stoic face. She finally made eye contact with him as he said he said that they became strangers.
The look in his eyes almost made her want to forgive him without a fight... but that was only for a moment. She kept the stern look on her face, hoping her moment of weakness didn't register in her eyes. They were standing face to face and very close, easy to talk in hushed tones. She clenched her fists at her sides, feeling the familiar anger start to bubble up inside of her. "And where were you, Nate?" she started speaking low and fast, "where were you when I needed a friend? Babysitting Teddy, like you always did." She shook her head and wanted to step back, but she couldn't move.
"You think you can just come in here with that-that apology, dripping with sincerity and expect us to be friends again?" Now her eyes were starting to fill with tears but she didn't dare look away or lift a hand to wipe them, "You think you can just call me 'your favorite blonde and-" her voice cracked, "And I would just fall into your arms and tell you what's going on in my life? That we can be friends?" Her voice was started to raise now and she lifted a hand, balling it into a fist and hovering over his chest as if she were going to pound on it, "you have no idea what I've been through."
