Ashley could hardly believe the way that things turned out. She and Eli ... were together? She wasn't entirely sure if it was official or anything, but after their kiss at New Year's and with the way he was treating her right now, she figured it was fairly safe to assume that Eli actually wanted a relationship with her and Ashley was delighted by that fact. It finally felt like things were going right again, which meant she had to do what she said and keep her brother in on the loop. So, she waited for him in the Great Hall. Today was supposed to be one of those days where they ate dinner together and Ashley searched for Joe's face among the people walking into the room. He had to be here soon, didn't he? Joe wasn't normally the type to miss a meal, for any reason. When she finally caught sight of him, she stood and waved, assuming he'd see her fast since he should be looking for her. Hopefully he didn't forget or something. @joseph

The days at Hogwarts were getting easier for Joe now that he could see the finish line for the school year. He could practically taste it. Joseph Fontaine couldn't wait to be back in New York City starting his new adult life. The past couple of months he had been applying to Muggle culinary arts colleges since he wanted to dive deeper into his craft while working in a kitchen somewhere. The near future was scary but the unknown excited him. For now he only had to focus on graduating, which seemed easy to him now.
It was a long time coming, but with some help from Kinsey, and hitting the books for some extra credit he managed to raise his grade to a decent mark in Arithmancy. He was comfortable knowing that whatever he got at the end of the year he'd pass, so it's all that mattered. All of his other classes were a breeze when he paid attention and did the homework, sometimes it was too easy he'd pay kids to do it for him because it wasn't worth his time. Half of the crap he learned at Hogwarts he wouldn't use in real life anyways.
Joe made his way toward the Great Hall, where he and Ashley normally had their dinner together. This year they had worked a lot on their sibling relationship, Joe felt like they improved a lot because they both were trying. Their parents would be proud of their efforts, not that either of them would brag to mommy and daddy about their improvements. As Joe approached the Slytherin tables, he immediately noticed his sisters perfectly groomed blonde hair, but she waved him over. Joe snorted, eyes rolling to the back of his head, "I see you, nerrd." he chuckled with a teasing expression as he slid onto the bench next to her, giving a side hug, "How was your day?" he asked her, reaching for a plain dinner roll across the table and biting into it ravenously.

Ashley grinned when Joe turned towards her, turning back to the table of food as she decided what she wanted to eat. She rolled her eyes when Joe joined her, calling her a nerd. "I am not a nerd, Joe," she argued, mostly just because it was expected by now. When he gave her a side hug, she hugged him back before turning to her food and shrugging. "It's been a good day. I'm actually pretty glad to be back to school. I ... do want to talk to you about something," she commented, glancing over at him. "Do you want me to tell you now or after we're done eating?" She wasn't quite sure how well Joe would receive the news that she was dating someone, so she wasn't exactly sure she'd tell him right now anyway. She wanted to make sure he was in a good mood, but it might be a good way to judge his state of mind. Basically, she didn't want him to stor out of the room looking for Eli. @joseph

As Joe took a seat next to Ash, he chuckled, ”Yeah, you are...Nerd. he chimed without waiting for a beat. As an older brother it was his job to be a pest, believe it or not, hilt his was him being nice. It took many years for them to “get” each other.
Ashley immediately got into business. It was obvious she had something to tell him. Something that wasn’t satire or silly, she seemed serious, which caused the snake to cock his head to the side to observe her face. “Tell me now.” he told her without thinking twice, taking another bite from his roll.

Ashley rolled her eyes at her older brother. She knew he claimed it was his "job" to tease her and annoy her whenever he got the chance. That used to annoy her to no end, but now? She felt like this last year they'd grown closer as friends, not just siblings, so his teasing didn't bother her the same way it used to. Interestingly enough, a part of her enjoyed the teasing now. So she didn't say anything else to his teasing, just scooted over so he'd have more space next to her. Joe insisted that she should tell him now and Ashley smiled, not at all surprised. "Okay, okay. I ... might be dating someone," she started, then stopped. "No, I am dating someone. I really like him and I want to tell you about it, but only if you promise not to chase him off." She looked over at Joe with a serious expression on her face. She liked Eli and really didn't want Joe to do anything to mess that up, which was something he had done in the past. "Brotherly protection" he called it. @joseph

Joe chewed with his mouth closed as she started to reveal what she wanted to tell him. She shared that she had a boyfriend and she wanted to tell him who he was but didn't want him to go after him. Joe chuckled, nodding his head in agreement, "Okay, okay..." he told her solemnly. "I know I don't have the best track record in the past but I don't really have time for that anymore. I promise I won't bother Lover Boy." Joe told her, his tone slightly unamused. Joe turned to her with interest, "Who is it?" he didn't waste any time to ask.

Ashley laughed when Joe said he didn't have time to go after her boyfriend. "Oh really? You're not going to make time for something like that?" Last year, Joe would have thrown everything to the side and just gone after Eli once he knew. He'd done it a few times at the beginning of the year, before she realized she liked Eli the first time. "Well ... since you promised you won't bother him, I'll tell you." Though it was fun putting him through a bit of suspense. Still, Ash knew that Joe wouldn't wait long before he started to try and tease it out of her or something. She might as well just tell him. "It's Elijah Flemming, from your year. You know who he is?" Joe should know who he was, but Ashley wasn't sure if he'd remember him. @joseph

"I guess it depends on who it is..." he jested with a straight expression before allowing a smile to slowly creep onto his face, "Kidding..." he assured her, taking a bite of food as she decided how she'd reveal who the lucky guy was. Then, she mentioned Elijah Fleming. He knew who that was. Actually, she could have chosen much worse like a bad boy or a guy like himself. "Eli?" he asked, slightly surprised, nodding his head along as he processed the information. Joe couldn't remember if he'd ever seen them together in the past or not. "That guy is kind of a nerd but I guess you could choose worse." he stated blunt in a typical older brother fashion.

Ashley rolled her eyes when Joe teased that it depended on who she was dating. Even though she'd basically asked for him to tease her about that, she was fairly certain that he wouldn't actually do it. Joe was a tease, but he wasn't mean. Besides that, their relationship was a lot better this year. He confirmed her suspicions, telling Ashley that he was kidding. She told Joe and then waited for his reaction, not entirely sure what she was waiting for, actually. She nodded when he echoed Eli's name, smiling a little bit then. "Yeah, Eli." Ash didn't say anything else though. She was waiting to see what Joe thought. Then she snorted. "Joe, he's like the most opposite to a nerd that there is! I help him with most of his school work. He's just a nerd when it comes to plants and animals." Still, even though he had a passion for plants and animals, in her mind he was almost the furthest thing from a nerd that there was. @joseph

Ashley defended her nerdy boyfriend and Joe's face flickered ever so slightly. Especially when she mentioned him liking plants and animals. That was pretty fucking nerdy to him, but he wasn't going to fight her on it. She could like whoever she wanted. He was more relieved it wasn't some guy on the quidditch team. Nerds were harmless. Joe shrugged, "Well, he's got that whole gangly nerd thing going for him.." he stated apathetically, biting into an apple. Joe didn't really care, but he was going to clarify. "Being obsessed with plants and animals qualifies him as a nerd, Ash." he told her severely, ending with a chuckle. Since he was her big brother, he had to give her a hard time on these things, it showed her that he cared and he loved her. Joe just had weird ways of showing it. Ashley would most likely agree that it was better than fighting to the death.

Ashley laughed when all that Joe said back was that he looked like a nerd because he was gangly. This was ... way better than what she expected. Any other time she told Joe about someone she was interested in, he got super protective of her and started inspecting the guy. She rolled her eyes as he continued, inwardly admitting to herself that this wasn't half as bad as two years ago. "That's not what I meant! I guess, in the way you're looking at it, he is a nerd. He's just an outdoorsy nerd, not the kind who you'll find in the library 98% of the time." In other words, she and Eli were kind of opposites in that way, since she did spend quite a bit of her time in the library making sure her work was done correctly. She didn't care. As long as Joe wasn't about to attack Eli or challenge him to a duel she was happy. "Thanks Joe," Ash said a moment later, leaning over to give him a tight hug. --- The End --- @joseph
