Cameron entered the Hog's Head in Hogsmeade, striding up to the counter, ordering an ice-cold water, then taking a seat down in one of the seats near the window. He sighed, staring out the window. It had been quite a while since he had been in Hogs Head. He was off-duty as an Auror and decided that this would be the best place to just relax. He hadn't had a day's rest of sleep since... well, he actually couldn't remember. That was most likely gonna bite him in the butt later, but at the moment, he wasn't really to focused on that. He sipped his drink and sighed again. He wondered if anything would be the same, or anything would come close to when he had been with his dad and mom together. His dad was such a well known Auror. Could Cameron even live up to that? He wasn't sure, but he also hoped it wasn't the case. Besides. Who even talked about his dad anymore? He tried to tell himself, but that just made him feel bad. words. some words notes. parvati patil macmillan

The Hog’s Head wasn’t somewhere that Parvati Macmillan frequented, necessarily. It held certain memories for her, ever since the war, which was probably one of the reasons why she didn’t step inside the pub much. It had taken on the character it had once had, making the Three Broomsticks the choice for most, but it wasn’t as though she actively avoided the place.
Given the crowds at the Three Broomsticks, though, she had found herself back there. Inexpensive as ever and with about the same sorts of patrons as one might expect, it was at least consistent. That was about all that could be said for the ambience, though, which made Parvati cringe slightly as she stepped inside. They couldn’t possibly ruin a simple cup of tea, though, so she planned to go with that as her first choice.
Seated near the window, however, was a face she recognized as one of the younger Ministry Aurors. He was older, at least, than some of the most recently graduated students, so she couldn’t place his name. Drinking a glass of water in the Hog’s Head, of all places, Parvati highly doubted that he was on the job, either. He had probably just wanted to steer clear of the crowds, and she couldn’t blame him for that.
She smiled slightly in his direction. They might have been at the Hog’s Head, but there was no reason not to be polite.

Cameron saw a woman he sort of recognized, though he wasn't really sure. He wasn't big on names really. The woman smiled at him, and he smiled back, mostly out of politeness. He didn't know if she wanted to walk over, or something. So he returned his eyes to the table, finding the wood suddenly interesting. He had no idea if that was his invitation to invite her over, but if she wanted a seat, she could have sit over here. He wasn't that against people. And he was a good-natured guy, so of course, he'd invite her over. He just didn't know exactly if she would, or if she would just go back to her regular day, whatever that was. He glanced out the window once again, a sigh escaping him. He had such... bittersweet memories here. It made him feel worse than he hadn't caught any of the Purifiers yet. What was he going to do with them? He had no leads yet, and it was driving him crazy. But most other Aurors seemed to steer clear of the case. Which seemed odd and frustrating to Cameron words. some words notes. parvati patil macmillan

The young man smiled back at Parvati after she had smiled at him, though his gaze didn't linger on her. He turned his attention first to the table at which he was sitting and then to the view out of the window. At that point he let out a sigh.
Parvati knew that she probably could have—or even should have—left him alone. He was minding his own business, but there was something about his demeanor. She couldn't help but feel that she needed to check in with him.
"Terribly sorry to bother you," she started gently, "but is everything alright?"

Cameron looked up again as the woman approached, asking if he was alright. He sighed. "It's alright," he said. "But, I guess I'm fine," he wasn't sure if this was a lie to make himself feel better or a half-truth. He wondered if the woman wondered if it was a lie too. "But, um, do I know you? You look sort of familiar," Cameron pointed out, his eyebrow raised, his face perplexed and curious. "Sorry to intrude, it's just, you look sort of familiar to me," he admitted, looking embarrassed to have brought it up. He wasn't much of a person to notice or recognize people, which was a weakness as an Auror, as you had to remember a lot of faces, as it would help in the case later on. Cameron tried to fix this issue, but it wasn't easy, nor was it a thing he wanted to do with his time, but he made an effort. words. some words notes. parvati patil macmillan

"It's alright," the young man sighed in response to her question. "But, I guess I'm fine."
She had heard enough of that response to know that it probably wasn't the entire truth, but Parvati wasn't going to push it unless he volunteered the information. What the young man did say next wasn't what Parvati had expected, however. "But, um, do I know you? You look sort of familiar."
There was, of course, the chance that he had mistaken her for Padma. Being that they were identical twins, there was always that chance that someone thought that Parvati was actually her sister, but that didn't strike Parvati as the case in that moment.
"Sorry to intrude, it's just, you look sort of familiar to me."
Parvati smiled before introducing herself. Her name and occupation weren't anything that anyone wouldn't have known about her as it was, even in the Hog's Head. It was widely known that she had been a member of Dumbledore's Army in her youth, if nothing else. Her having worked as the advice columnist for Witch Weekly had added to her notability in some respects, and then—more obviously—she was the school counselor at Hogwarts.
"I'm Parvati Macmillan," she told the young man. "I'm the school counselor at Hogwarts."

Cameron smiled or at least tried to, but his thoughts were getting the better of him, and he couldn't really put on a convincing smile to hide his doubt. "Oh, nice to meet you, Miss Macmillian," he said politely. "My name is Cameron Underwood, I work at the Ministry," he was careful not to say what his occupation was, but where he worked. He couldn't be too safe. Though, this woman seemed kindly enough. Then he looked pleased. "School counselor, hmm? That's neat!" he said with a nod. He wasn't impressed, but he was fine, which was something. Cameron thought for a moment. The young man smiled at her and said that it was nice to meet her. He introduced himself to her, too, and it was at that moment that Parvati was given pause. “My name is Cameron Underwood,” he said. “I work at the Ministry.” It was his surname—Underwood—that first caught Parvati’s attention, followed by his mention of the Ministry. Underwood… As in Jackson Underwood, she presumed. Jackson Underwood had been a well-known Auror, and he had been killed in the line of duty a number of years before. It had been a while ago—before Kingsley’s death, even, as Parvati recalled. Cameron must have been of some relation to him… His son or, at the least, a nephew of his…
“School counselor, hmm? That's neat!”
Although she nodded in response to Cameron’s comment about her work, which was in equal parts stressful and rewarding, Parvati remained stuck on the matter of his name. “I’m sorry,” she began, brow furrowed slightly, “but you aren’t of any relation to Jackson Underwood, are you?”

Cameron's face went from a small, somewhat forced smile, to a shocked look. His heart skipped a beat. This woman knew his father? There were several moments before he spoke, as he was trying to process if this was actually an actual question, or if he had imagined it. After several moments, he finally spoke. "Um, yes, I have a relation to Jackson Matthews, he i- was, my father," he said, catching himself before he could say 'is.' Because he knew his father was no longer alive. He had so many questions, but he decided to go with a simple one. "How do you know my dad?" he asked, forgetting the fact that his father was a well-known Auror, and that the news spread when he died. He looked a little restless. He wondered what made her say that. Was it that he worked at the Ministry? No, that was silly. But it could have been his last name? Cameron wasn't sure, and he wondered if Parvati knew. Cameron's expression quickly turned to one of shock, and the smile that had been upon his face was no longer there. Parvati wondered if perhaps she shouldn't have asked about Jackson Underwood; it probably wasn't any of her business, anyway.
But Cameron was of some relation to the late Jackson Underwood, he said: He was the man's son, though he stumbled over whether to use present tense or past tense in relation to his father. "How do you know my dad?" he asked, though Parvati had never known Jackson Underwood personally. She had known of him, given what an excellent Auror he'd been, but she hadn't known him. "Did you know him?"
Parvati shook her head, her eyes lingering on Cameron for a moment. She wondered if it would let him down that she hadn't known his father in any substantive way. She knew that she had to have been working at Witch Weekly back then, and things weren't the way that they were in the present. The world might not have been free of danger, but it was better. She wouldn't have had much of a reason to cross paths with any Aurors—outside of the ones she'd known from school and whatnot.
"No," she answered Cameron, her tone apologetic. "I didn't know your dad. I knew of him—excellent wizard, truly, from everything I heard—but… no, I never— I didn't know him personally."

Cameron felt disappointed, but not at her. He was hopeful that someone knew of his father, and could tell him more than what his loving mother told him. Sure, he knew his mother knew Jackson Underwood, but her vision was clouded from years of love. He wanted another set of eyes. Of course, he didn't want to find out his father was a horrible person, but he wanted to know just a bit more than he already did. Like how people saw him to this day. Even after years after his death. Or how he did his job. Cameron felt guilty he couldn't help or save his father, and that guilt never quite mixed well with his bouncing personality. And that was probably why he wasn't in one of those happy go lucky moods he was always in. "Oh..." the young man said with a frown. "So you really know nothing?" he asked. Then he nodded in agreement. "I know he was an excellent wizard. Everyone knows that, and everyone tells me that..." the boy said. He tried to give a smile to signal he wasn't mad, which he wasn't by all means, but the smile just seemed a bit stale. Which he couldn't really control words. some words notes. parvati patil macmillan

"Oh…" Cameron frowned. "So you really know nothing?"
Parvati shook her head. She didn't know anything about Jackson Underwood that would change Cameron's perception of him or anything like that; she only knew what everyone else did. It was probably for the better, though. She had been in the position of telling the Flint twins about their true father—her ex-husband—and had no desire to be placed in such circumstances again.
"I know he was an excellent wizard. Everyone knows that, and everyone tells me that…"
That was probably how Harry felt when people brought up the subject of his parents to him, too, she guess. Parvati imagined that it didn't happen as often anymore, but it must have been strange. She felt fortunate that she would never know what that felt like for herself; her parents were still alive; maybe she didn't know every detail of their lives, but she understood who they were through having grown from a child and into a mother of twins, herself.
"I'm really sorry I can't tell you more about him," Parvati apologized, frowning slightly, too. The Hog's Head wasn't the most natural place to be having that conversation, either, she noted. "What brings you to the Hog's Head?" she asked. "If you don't mind?"

For a few moments, the young man was silent, his eyes on the table again, deep in thought. Finally, after several moments of contemplation, he sighed. "Alright, fine, I won't push any further," he said politely. He wasn't sure what he wanted to know, but he wanted to learn something different about his father. Something that might help him figure out what exactly happened to the once-mighty Auror. He paused for a second at her inquiry about what he was doing at Hog's Head, before answering. "I suppose I just want to relax, I guess. Being an Auror can be stressful work," he admitted with a sigh. Cameron wasn't wrong, nor was he lying. He had found the job stressful and exhausting, and yet, he loved every bit of it. "What about you? What brings you down here?" he asked, his head tilting to the side, curious and wide-eyed once more. It was as if his more childish and friendly side poked out just a bit, but not too much for it to be awkward or creepy. words. some words notes. parvati patil macmillan (i think i replied to Muffy as well in the other thread, but IDK)

"Alright, fine, I won't push any further."
If Parvati had had any more knowledge of Jackson Underwood, she would have told Cameron. It wasn't that she was resistant; she really didn't know any more than the young man already knew about his late father. It would have been a lie to say that their conversation hadn't brought forward some interest within her to see what she could find out about the former Auror, but it wasn't anything that she could promise Cameron.
As for her question about what he was doing at the Hog's Head, he said that he supposed that he just wanted to relax. "Being an Auror can be stressful work."
Parvati nodded. She might not have known much about Cameron's father, but she knew enough to know that being an Auror was no walk in the park. Aside from all of the physical dangers of the job, it took a mental toll. It also didn't surprise her that Cameron was an Auror; he'd clearly followed in Jackson's footsteps there. That increased his curiosity about him, no doubt.
"What about you? What brings you down here?"
"The Three Broomsticks was a bit too busy, so I popped down here instead," Parvati replied with a slight laugh. "I don't mind, though," she admitted. "It's been a while since I've been here."

Cameron wondered what else he could ask her that somehow related to his father, but didn't quite. But she answered his question, so he went with that. "Yes, I heard that the Three Broomsticks were overcrowded as well, so I guess Hogs Head is the go-to," he said. It was strange, but nothing that Cameron couldn't figure out. He then tilted his head in curiosity. "How long has it been since you've been here last? For me, it was about 2 weeks," he gave a short laugh. He liked to come here sometimes to just think or relax, which was something he always did when he came to Hogsmeade. He was quite curious. Maybe he didn't like to talk about his past, but he liked to learn just a bit about people so he could understand how they were feeling in certain situations. He was quite the curious fellow when you got to know him, but he wasn't completely open. When he is his usual happy self, it is when he doesn't think about his father. Somehow, the mention of his dad just breaks his mood. words. some words notes. parvati patil macmillan
