Today Simon had some time to kill before his study session with Jessie Meadows. Since he was fully aware that keeping track of time wasn't one of his best qualities, he planned to stay near the library, to remain on Jessie's good side - for now. They hadn't fought in a couple of weeks, other than some light bickering but to be fair Simon bickered with everyone as entertainment.
The sun was shining, which made for a great day, but also unfortunate when you were part vampire. This afternoon he was content with tucking himself into the window sill ledge of the fourth floor corridor, his back pressed against the wall as he occasionally tilted his head to stare out the window. A charcoal pencil rest between his fingers as he gently sketched light marks onto the sketch book rested on his legs, nibbling at his bottom lip absentmindedly.
A stocky boy in Slytherin robes came up from behind, "HEY!" swooping an arm to push whatever was in her arms to the floor. "Mudbloooood" they sang obnoxiously, kicking one of the thicker books across the corridor. If yelling in the hallways didn't get his attention, the book shuffling toward him spine open sure did. Simon closed his sketch book and took a breath before reacting. As he turned to see who was getting bullied, Simon noticed it was Jessie.
For some reason that made his stomach sink. @jessiemeadows

Jessie's arms were strained from the heavy amount of books she was holding. At this point she was dying to collapse into a seat and lay her books down on a table. She couldn't help but to let her thoughts drift to Simon, despite the ache in her forearms. Honestly, he was at fault for the pain in her arms. It was he she was tutoring after all. Nevertheless, a smile gracefully fluttered across her lips. The two Gryffindors had been getting along wonderfully, considering their past. The small smile was stolen away from her lips, eyebrows immediately shooting up in confusion as someone shouted at her. The weight of the books she was carrying suddenly disappeared as they were slapped onto the ground. The diminutive lioness barely had time to react to that interruption, before their verbal assault caused her to freeze. Her cheeks ripened to a bright red, as she stared at the Slytherin with burning eyes. Her stomach was sick from a mixture of anger and embarrassment. She watched as they kicked her book down the corridor before returning her gaze to the bully in front of her. "Bugger off," she demanded through gritted teeth. She knew it was in her best interest to not say anything at all, but she couldn't help it. Jessie's temper was flaring once again. Something that hadn't happened in a number of weeks. She knelt to her knees and began gathering the books closest to her, hoping that the Slytherin would lose interest and leave her be. simon sixten svendsen

PG 13 WARNING: The following post may be considered violent, accompanied with harsh language.
Unable to take the scene any longer, Simon shot up, picked up the book and considered chucking it at the kid. After quick consideration, that seemed too violent on Jess' belongings, honestly. She was a nerd about her books. Simon bent down to pick the open faced book up and quickly close the distance between them.
"Hey!" he barked, stepping directly behind the bully to yank the hood of his cloak so the neck would choke him uncomfortably for a brief second in his grip, very hard. The bully staggered back with a stupid look, caught off guard by the counterattack, and now probably freshly bruised in the adam's apple region. Simon bent down so the pig faced boy could be eye level with him, "Pick on someone your own size, you fat piece of shit." he stated loudly with an unapologetic harshness, accompanied by an intimidatingly neutral stare. Simon wished the kid to punch him so he'd have a reason to swing, but the bully was an instant coward once confronted with a small crowd now forming from Simons loud mouth and some kids laughing at a combination of his Swedish accent and the diss. The Slytherin boy clutched his neck with a bruised ego, quickly walking away and pretending like nothing happened, not daring to look in Jess' general direction.
Simons jaw tightened because he could feel eyes on him. A part of him was waiting for a faculty member to discipline him for foul language, but that wouldn't be a first time occurance for the Gryffindor... Simon tucked Jess' book under his arm and bent down to pick up a stray piece of paper that landed on the floor from her belongings, "...You okay?" he asked her awkwardly, his hard expression softening.

As Jessie was rising to her feet, another figure arrived into her peripheral. The figure, who she now recognized as Simon, clutched at the Slytherin's hood and pulling it taut against his neck. Jessie flinched as Simon insulted the boy, though a small part of her felt like it was justified. Her fellow Gryffindor looked impressive in the moment. His arms looked as if they were carved out of stone. His jawline, which appeared perfectly chiseled on an average day, seemed to hardened from annoyance or anger. The look in Simon's eyes frightened her some, causing her stomach to flip. A few passersby had now stopped in their tracks, no doubt they had heard all of the commotion the last five minutes had held. Her eyes followed the Slytherin boy as he retreated down the hall. Her anger, and awe of Simon, disintegrated in that instant as his figure grew smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared down the corridor. The hot, sickly feeling of embarrassment washed over her in full force. She nodded when Simon asked if she were okay, the cold in his eyes replaced with a bit of warmth. Her eyes fluttered over to the small crowd around them, hot tears threatening to spill onto her cheeks. Being called a Mudblood was hard enough, but having an audience worsened the effect. "Can...Can we go somewhere else?" she asked, favoring the idea of retreating from the looks and whispers of the onlookers. The crowd, in reality, couldn't have been more than four or five students. In the moment, it felt as if she had a hundred eyes on hers. simon sixten svendsen

Simon watched as the boy disappeared down the hallway, clenching his jaw from the tension that had built up during the quick altercation. As he turned to ask Jessie if she was okay, he wasn’t expecting her to look so defeated, or look like she wanted to hide. It was obvious she needed to get away from the scene. Simons vampire intuition sensed her discomfort, her face actually made his stomach sink. Which was surprising... considering about a month ago the half vamp would have gotten a rise being the one to irritate her like that. This was different though, it was sadness. Simon didn’t want to make anyone feel sad on purpose. Discriminating against someone about something that couldn’t be changed such as bloodline or color of skin wasn’t fair, and it wasn’t right.
The small crowd in the hallway slowly dispersed, but there were remaining students lingering around. Simon bent down and reached for another book that he assumed was hers on the floor. He took another from her arms to lighten the load, tucking them under his arm.. who carried this much on a daily basis?!
Simon stepped toward her and draped an arm behind her back to offer comfort, ”It’s okay, I got you, let’s go.” he assured her softly, she didn’t have to say any more for him to understand. He quickly guided her toward the library to retreat since it was closest; knowing it was a safe haven for nerds and anyone that needed a quiet place. Simon never thought of the library as home, however, lately he had been spending more time he had ever spent in his three years at Hogwarts. After finding a quiet study corner, Simon set the books on the table, ”Is that a common occurrence?” he asked her, pulling a chair out and falling into it.

His words wrapped her in a blanket of comfort. A shaky breath left her lungs as Simon's arm guided her to their destination. Neither of them spoke as they made it deeper into the library. She didn't mind, however. The lump in her throat would have made it difficult to speak. Jessie swallowed hard, hoping to fix the issue. It wouldn't budge. The hot tears that she had been holding back were now silently sliding down her face. She wiped them away continuously, but they kept falling. She quietly watched as Simon set her books down before following his suite and grabbing a chair. Her eyes still watched the vampire in front of her as he asked her a question. She looked away as she answered, the lump in her throat growing larger. "It happens more often now. It used to rarely occur," she sniffed. Jessie was grateful that it hadn't happened very often during her earlier years at Hogwarts. It would have traumatized the young Gryffindor at that point in her life. Though, it might have given her a thicker skin, had she been exposed to it more. Another wave of embarrassment rushed over her. She must have looked like a blubbering mess in front of Simon. Though, he was being kind. A fact that she was well aware of. Just as she was aware that his arm had been across her back just mere moments ago. She wiped her face once more and turned brown eyes back towards him. "Thank you," she said, awkwardly. Simon had gone above and beyond in the corridor for her. She wouldn't soon forget it. And since she was already crying, there was no sense in acting too proud to show some gratitude. simon sixten svendsen

A breath pulled through his lips and he exhaled, more to ground himself, earn him another moment. The Lion felt bad for the Lioness. He hadn’t realized until this moment how much it bothered him to learn she was being bullied. Simon was typically the type of person who’d intervene when he saw someone being mistreated, especially for something they couldn’t control, such as blood purity or color of skin.
As she took a seat, the sadness and humility could be heard behind her voice. That wasn’t how Jessie typically acted. She was normally so happy it made him want to tell her to ‘chill’ but today that wasn’t the case. It was obvious she cried - or was still in the process of crying. Truthfully it made him want to hug her, so he did. The young vampire leaned forward in his chair to wrap his long arms around Jessie’s petite frame. The embrace wasn’t meant to be romantic, or heated, he truly wanted to offer her comfort since she was hurting.
”I’m sorry, Jess.” he told her, giving her a squeeze but not releasing yet. Simon considered himself good at comforting people, blaming it on being keen to emotions due to his vampire side. From as far back as he remembered, they never hugged, so this was a first. In that moment he noticed her hair smelled really good, which was a strange thought so he tried to push it aside. As he slowly started to release, his arms dropped back to his sides, icy blue eyes attempting to meet with hers, ”If anyone gives you any trouble you can let me know.” he offered, unsure how she’d take it.

Jessie watched as Simon's arms extended towards her, and then wrapped around her. Her body stiffened in his embrace. Not because it was Simon who was hugging her. It was simply because it was a hug. A few brief moments passed, before her arms reciprocated the act. As she fell into the hug, fresh tears stung her eyes. The kindness of his actions hit her straight on, and a new type of grief threatened to overtake her. When they finally released each other, Jessie wiped at her eyes once again. An odd sensation tugged at her stomach, but she chalked it up to being a symptom of her earlier state. A small smile came to her lips. "That's sweet of you," she began. "Usually I can handle this stuff," she shrugged in an attempt to look unbothered, despite the redness in her eyes betraying her. "You know me, all bossy and stuff." It wasn't like he hadn't seen her emotional before. He just hadn't seen her emotional in this way. Truth be told, she was still embarrassed. Up until now, Simon hadn't seen anything other than her cheery and angry sides. He knew her as a bubbly, sometimes raging, nerd. Though his demeanor today did a lot to comfort her and ease her sadness from what transpired. He probably had no idea how much it actually helped. She propped an elbow on the table, resting her head in the palm of her hand. "Sorry you had to see all of that. You know, the tears and everything."

As Jessie accepted the hug, he expected her to be awkward, or possibly not reciprocate the action, but she hugged him after a moment. He could feel her melt into his arms during that brief time, which he had to admit wasn’t too bad. They released from the hug lightly and she made a joke about herself being bossy, he nodded his head along in agreement. Jessie Meadows was one of the bossiest people he knew but she was nice too, so it balanced out.
“Oh, I know you can - they just caught you off guard...” the young man declared in agreement, but more out of sarcastic jest; an attempt to lighten the situation. Her tear stained face made his gut sink. A fact he found odd but he didn’t want to think much on it.
When the Lioness apologized for crying, he shook his head from side to side in disagreement. “No sorry needed, really.” he assured her, feigning nonchalance. Simon hoped the more relaxed about the situation he was, she’d hopefully be able to ease into her usual self.
His eyes tore from her and to the small stack of books on the table in front of them. The half vampire pulled a sigh past his lips and cracked one of the books open, ”Well, we’re here a little earlier than usual... so maybe we could hit the books for a bit and end sooner today?” he pitched, trying to get her mind off of the bad stuff.

Jessie watched and listened carefully as Simon began shifting the tone of their conversation to something that resembled their normal banter. Another small smile made her lips upturn, "Honestly, they did. I didn't expect anything as atrocious as that to happen so close to my safehaven." She threw her free hand out as she referenced her favorite place in the castle. Well, one of her favorite places. She giggled when someone suggested they leave early, considering that they had arrived early. "Or we could put the extra few minutes to good use," Jessie noted, giving him a wry smile. "But I'll think about it. If you're on your best behavior," she conceded playfully. Normally she wouldn't allow that to happen-- not in a million years. She grabbed a book as well, ready to delve into their tutoring session. They flipped through their books in silence, as she tried to decide what they were needed to go over today. Despite needing to make a decision, she found herself gazing at the Simon. She couldn't begin to describe how grateful she was. Without thinking much about it, Jessie reached over and placed her hand on his. "I know I already said it, but thank you. Really," she said, eyes meeting his once again. She carefully withdrew her hand, and cleared her throat. If she wasn't careful, she would be a blubbering mess again. "So, how about we start with Transfiguration?"

Jessie denied the idea of leaving early, making him invest the time in studying instead. He shouldn't of expected any other answer from the petite Lioness. Simon chuckled, "Okay, Boss." he replied in response, honestly not surprised by the answer her got. Jessie was a morbid nerd and always trying to teach him self discipline when it came to academic endeavors.
His hand twitched slightly when her hand rested on top of his as she expressed her gratitude once more. His stomach fluttered, causing the air to get caught in his throat for a brief second. Simon wasn't sure why he felt so awkward. His head nodded as his eyes slowly met hers, "You're welcome, Jessie." he told her, tearing his eyes away as he flipped through the Transfiguration textbook absentmindedly because he had no idea what page he was looking for. "I understand what its like to be treated differently for something you can't control. People are wankers." he stated, biting down on his lip in defeat. His train of thought was fucked. A sigh passed his lips, "Er. What page are we on?"
Maybe if he did the homework, he'd know what chapter they were supposed to be on.

She listened to him as she carefully sifted through the book in her hands, pausing only to drink in his words. Jessie had nearly forgotten that Simon wasn't just human. For a brief moment she wondered what kinds of discrimination he may have faced due to who he was. She was ready to offer a comforting word or two, before Simon asked what page they were on. "Honestly, I don't know either," she admitted, slightly chagrined. "One second." A comforting silence draped around them. The only noise that could be heard from either of them was the flipping of pages. "Ah," she said at last, "Page 236. Conjuration of animals." She grimaced slightly at the realization. It wouldn't quite be appropriate to practice conjuration in the library. Jessie was off of her game that day, it seemed. She mulled over what to do in her head, completely oblivious to the world around her for a few moments. "Well," she began, casting him an unhappy frown. "We may be done early today afterall. I forgot we needed to be outside for this session. The most I can do is go over the fundamentals..." She wasn't at all happy it, clearly. simon sixten svendsen

Simon chuckled when she admitted not knowing what page they were on. Apparently he wasn’t just flipping through pages absentmindedly for no reason for once. The look on her face upon reading the chapter heading caused a small smile to dance at the corners of his lips. His wish had come true without even trying, nice. She was actually pretty bummed that their study session was going to be cut short, which he found even funnier. What a sad look on her face. Simon couldn’t express it too much knowing that it would upset her so he chuckled a bit.
“Nice...” he bobbed his head up and down before ruffling his hair and grumbling, “I mean.. Ohh, no.” he stated sarcastically with a laugh, pouting out a lip.
Simon flipped the page open to the number she announced and patiently waited for her to start her spiel.
