▲ That was a fair point, when it came to goblins not collecting artifacts on their own. From what she had learned in classes, they possessed different kinds of magic than witches and wizards did, so it begged the question of why they couldn’t just do it themselves and bypass all the normal magical traps and dangers that cursebreakers fell victim to. And if they truly wanted it all to their greedy little selves, it seemed the most logical thing to do too. But if Nixie seemed to think that it would put her out of the job, then it was a decent point and maybe it had more to do with self-preservation. If the goblins could get crazy magical humans to find gold and bring it back, risking life and limb just for money and the thrill, why not let them. Nessa could get behind that theory, and she sort of liked it too. That was something she’d do with the younger kids at the orphanage. Tell them how to sneak into the kitchen at night and steal cookies, but in a manner that it wouldn’t come back onto her. They usually grabbed a few extra and shared their spoils with her when they were successful. Suddenly, she felt like she really understood the goblins better, and that they were more than greedy, short misers. “Are most of the places you go into tombs? Or are there sometimes abandoned buildings and things like that?” Her question was mostly bordering on whether or not she could do some urban exploration, because that more fit her expertise. When she could escape the orphanage and wasn’t with Nate, abandoned houses or factories were her favorite haunts. Tombs and caves sounded cool and all, but she wanted to go through things left by people. Personal belongings and the likes. Sifting through dirt and empty coffins for magical gold didn’t really equate to that. @nixie ● 319 ● Year Zero by Ghost MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Nixie loved to travel, and she didn't know how else she would do it, if she wasn't a Curse-Breaker. If that job did go away, she would have to figure something out. She wasn't in it for the money, she craved the adventure. The puzzles, and the constant excitement of not knowing what was coming next. Being stuck here, in this quarantine, was one of the worst things that had happened to her. She hated staying in one place, and currently, that place was her parents.
“Are most of the places you go into tombs? Or are there sometimes abandoned buildings and things like that?” That was a good question. Most people thought of tombs when they though Curse-breaking. Mostly because of Egypt, and places like it. "Tombs are defiantly a part of it, and it's where I've spent most of my career, but there are abandoned buildings. Some even into caves." Nixie had been to different places, and enjoyed every second. "The job is where the cureses are. I know there are some who work mostly in abandoned dwellings, and other's who have hiked mountains."

▲ So it was a little bit of everything. From what she had read in muggle magazines and seen on the internet, there were always new tombs (and new areas of already found tombs) being discovered, especially in Egypt, so it was no wonder that it was still a prevalent area to be looking. But there was more than just Egypt out there too. She had always liked Vikings, and their burials were mostly in mass graves, where they were buried with a majority of their belongings. According to what she had read, these were difficult to find. And Nessa wasn’t sure how many Vikings wielded magic. The Egyptians were pretty obvious practitioners from what she understood. Getting ahold of those artifacts before muggles had a chance to muddy them up was the least Cursebreakers could do nowadays. As for caves, that certainly seemed interesting. She found it hard to believe that there were cursed objects stashed away, hidden from the world for centuries, in caves all over the world. It seemed slightly absurd to her. Then again, she wasn’t the professional here. If Nixie said that was a common place to look, than it had to be true. She was still only interested in going through abandoned houses, magical or not. While she didn’t know what the average house for a magical family looked like, having never lived in one before, she knew that her peers at Hogwarts were always talking about weird things their family’s had. If left abandoned and cursed, that had to mean those were important to take a look at, right? “Right…curses,” Nessa remembered. She had forgotten that was what this job was about. And hunting down artifacts hidden behind traps. And not stealing gold from goblins. There were a lot of different things that she supposedly wasn’t allowed to do if she became a Cursebreaker that worked exclusively for Gringotts. It was a bit of a drag, but it was also a means to an end. At that point, she was going to be on her own, kicked out of the orphanage. Taking advantage of travel expenses by the Cursebreakers, or Gringotts, whoever paid for these things, meant she could pocket all of her earnings and not have to worry about finding another home immediately. Now that sounded exciting to her. “I don’t think I have any more questions right now,” she added. “I guess maybe the last thing would be the classes I should be studying harder in at school.” While she didn’t care about school to that extent, she still needed to do what was required to meet her goals. Losing before she even started wasn’t an option at this point. Because losing meant having to work as a waitress here at the Leaky Cauldron. Nessa wasn’t going to be a loser. @nixie ● 469 ● Chinese Satellite by Phoebe Bridgers MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Curse breakers were always needed, and according to Nixie, they would always be needed. Some people specialized in an area, while others went where the wind took them. Either way, if the bank needed you in a location because of your knowledge, expertise, or they picked you out of a hat, you went. Some had an issue with how the goblins did their business. Nixie didn't care. She was able to travel and have adventures on a regular basis. That was what she loved and really wanted to do.
Curse breaking wasn't for the glamorous, or those who preferred to stay clean. Gag reflexes were also something to be mindful of. Nixie had been just about everywhere in her time. She mentioned that work was where the curses were. Not many people understood the ins and outs of their job. The curses were the entire reason why they were out there.
“I guess maybe the last thing would be the classes I should be studying harder in at school.” Nixie thought about that. All the classes she had taken had proved helpful "It is important to test well with all the stated required classes, But for Curse breaking specifically, History of Magic, Charms and Ancient runes. Almost every location I've gone to, I've needed that. Also, I'd stress perfecting counter curses." Getting cursed, or someone else getting cursed, wasn't unhear of.

▲ Great. She had to do well with all of the classes? If she hadn’t been trying to put on a good face, she would have eye-rolled unbelievably hard at that comment. Technically she could beef her scores up a bit over the next two years, but it was going to be difficult. Most of the professors already didn’t trust her, and honestly, they had very good reason for that. Old habits unfortunately died hard, and she was positive that Nate was going to prod her into doing something stupid, as the two of them were prone to do. Personally, she didn’t really care. School was freedom as far as she was concerned, and if it meant she could get the job she wanted by sitting down and studying a lot more in everything, then she could probably do it. Technically she wasn’t screwed yet. As for the actual classes that would benefit her? She wasn’t terrible in any of them. Charms was pretty easy since it was just a bunch of wand waving and figuring out more advanced ways to cast, and History of Magic was easy as long as she managed to hide her cheat sheet well enough from whatever poor professor happened to be teaching the class. Luckily for her, she only needed to cheat when it came to remembering names and dates, and the rest of the stuff was pretty easy. The orphanage had enough history books that she usually read through a few of them each summer out of sheer boredom. That was the only reason she was interested in ancient history and tomb raiding in the first place. Aside from the fact that it was highly dangerous and there were treasures at the end of it sometimes. “I’m pretty good at counter curses already,” Nessa commented, though she was better at casting curses and cursing out other kids than she was alleviating them from herself. All she had to do was piss Nate off and he’d hit her a few times with a couple nasty ones. Then it would give her a good excuse to practice removing them and sending them right back at him. In the end, it seemed like she was sort of on the right path. It was a lot more difficult than she had imagined it would be, and really getting good grades was the most she could for the time being. “I think those are all the questions I have for now…” she stated as she flipped through her notepad again, as if a new question or thought would suddenly appear out of nowhere. “Thanks. This helped me a lot with understanding the job more.”@nixie ● 445 ● Orbit by brillion & Lucid green MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Nixie knew that just having the book smarts wasn't enough but it was needed. Quick reflexes and desire for adventure were also important. Not just anyone could make it as a curse breaker. Nixie could tell that the girl had a want for adventure, reflexes were either natural or learned on the job. The book smarts and the knowledge was what got you into the job.
The girl mentioned that she was good at counter curses and Nixie was glad about that. Though you never really knew how good you were at magic until the heat of the moment. She had certainly seen many people freeze when it came down to it. This girl didn't seem like the freezing or running away sort, but that sort of thing was hard to tell.
“I think those are all the questions I have for now…” Nixie smiled, a little ashamed at her relief that it was over. The girl thanked her. "No problem. Happy to help. Hopefully I'll see you out there in a couple of years."
