Sienna thanked her for allowing her to stay in the room for the time being, until Auguste returned or until she felt too ill to remain there, whichever scenario ended up coming first. "It shouldn’t be such a big deal, but I miss him. I barely see him enough as it is, and this quarantine has been very strict. You understand that better than anybody, I suppose." As the translation of Sienna's words played, Camila could hear her sigh. And then, after a moment or two, she added something else on, a question. "The symptoms weren’t too bad for you, no? You look almost completely cured."
Camila gently took her phone from Sienna and shook her head. "I am better now, but it's been awful," she stated, sighing, too, after speaking into the phone. She didn't think that it had helped matters that she had been overworked prior to falling ill. The disease wasn't supposed to be as bad for most people as it had been for her. "But I was exhausted before," she admitted into the translator after a pause. "I was always working—rehearsing and promoting my album and the tour…" In essence, she had been doing everything that would have made her more susceptible to illness—when it really wasn't convenient. "I miss Argentina, too. My parents, my friends… Everyone is nice here, but I want to go home."

It could be extremely easy to forget celebrities were more than the personas they put out for the crowds. Sienna saw that enough with Gus – she didn’t see every behind-the-scene decision he and his team made, but there could be marked differences between the Gus she read about in those gossip magazines and the Gus she’d known for years. Si was ‘familiar’ with Camila through her music – she’d listened to her albums repeatedly while at work (potioneering really could get very boring when your potions had to simmer for two weeks). She took a moment to study Camila after her somewhat depressing answers. Si could see some of the exhaustion on the girl’s face – maybe only from the sickness, but Camila really did look pale and tired. And young. That had been one of the first things Sienna had noticed after absorbing that Gus wasn’t in the room. Knowing something intellectually and seeing it in front of you were two different things, and she had never really processed how young Camila was to be famous and touring around-the-world. Sienna didn’t take the phone back after Camila finished. She wasn’t famous, sure, but she could relate to a lot of what Camila had said, especially about being away from home. And she didn’t want that message delivered through the robotic voice of the app that didn’t know how to communicate emotion. So Sienna switched back to English, and spoke slowly, the way she wished people would have when she’d first arrived to London. “I’m sorry,” she started simply. Si frowned slightly, paused to sneeze into a tissue, then paused to think for a moment. “I know what you mean. I was supposed to go home this summer to see my father in Belgium. It was his birthday two weeks ago. But…” she shrugged helplessly. Those plans had clearly been wishful thinking the moment that the Hag’s Fever outbreak had been announced. “And, even if I don’t have personal experience, I’ve seen what your industry is like. And if you don’t set those boundaries, they’ll turn you into whatever sells best. Even if it isn’t best for you.” She wondered if Camila and Gus had ever spoken about this. Sienna could see a disparity between the image Gus put out of himself and how he was with her, but at his core he wasn’t two different people. He’d done a better job over the years of defining himself and keeping that image. And Si did wonder if Camila had anybody that she could talk to without worrying about showing too much or expecting a transactional conversation devoid of actual care. Si was looking to make a name for herself among the Potions community, but…she’d never pursue a celebrity lifestyle like this. She was sure about that – she wanted the potions she tweaked or invented to have more widespread recognition than her own name. Now that things were finally starting to happen with Aware Wolf Potion, she’d have to be more considerate of things like work/life balance. Maybe it’d sound crazy, but Si felt she should at least offer. “If you ever do want to take a break, Gus isn’t half-bad company. And neither am I.” camila calderón

To Camila's surprise, Sienna didn't take the phone back up to use the translator after that, and she switched to speaking in English again. She spoke clearly, though, and not as rapidly as people often did, sympathizing with her before having to sneeze again. "I know what you mean. I was supposed to go home this summer to see my father in Belgium. It was his birthday two weeks ago. But…"
Camila, too, frowned at how defeated Sienna seemed. Neither of them could do much about it, and she was sure that Sienna's father understood why she wouldn't be able to go to Belgium. "And, even if I don’t have personal experience, I’ve seen what your industry is like. And if you don’t set those boundaries, they’ll turn you into whatever sells best. Even if it isn’t best for you."
She knew that falling so ill so suddenly needed to be a wake-up call that she was doing too much too soon. After having been at St. Mungo's for so long, Camila missed working, but she knew that she would have to start setting some limits for her own sake. Burning out so early on in her career wasn't something that she wanted. If she wasn't careful, she thought, it would come to that.
"If you ever do want to take a break, Gus isn’t half-bad company. And neither am I."
Camila smiled and chose to switch back to English, as Sienna had done. "Thank you," she replied. Now that she and Auguste had plans to record a song together, she thought, she would be seeing more of him. Even though Sienna had said that she was just a friend, they seemed very close, and Camila didn't want her to get the wrong idea or for it to come as a shock. Figuring it would be easier to explain in Spanish, Camila spoke into her phone again, the translation still set—as it had been—to French. "Actually, Auguste and I are working on a song," she said. There was no reason to hide that it existed. "I can tell that you're very close, so I want to tell you. It's a romantic song, but there are no romantic feelings between us."

It was something of a relief to find out that Camila was actually a very nice person. Maybe that was an odd thought to have at this moment, but it was always disappointing to love someone’s music or acting career and then discover that they were terrible people. Not that Si had a ton of personal experience on that front, but it was good to know that she could continue humming along to the pop star’s songs at work or home. Sienna frowned as she sneezed again. The previous time had been your average sneeze, but this time it was accompanied by fire as it had when she’d first woken up. The tissue caught fire, and Si quickly extinguished it with her wand as she considered that it might be time for another check-up soon. As it was, she only just caught Camila speaking into the phone again in Spanish. Although her nose was still sensitive (although thankfully there was no fire left), Si gave an attempt at a smile. Her face flushed quickly at Camila’s last statement (and unfortunately Sienna wasn’t sure she could completely blame the flush on Hag’s Fever). “Oh! Um…” Sienna fished for something to say, although her brain seemed to have forgotten the full scope of both the French and English languages. It wasn’t rare for her to be speechless, but...she should say something, right? She settled on something simple and kept her English slow. “Collaborations are so much fun, I’m glad!” Yeah, it was easier to just address the first point. But Merlin, she wished she could get rid of the blush - when had she become so obvious about Gus? “At least something good came out of this whole Hag’s Fever mess.” camila calderón

Sienna sneezed, resulting in a fiery tissue, though she was able to put it out before it caused any problems. Having Hag's Fever was a pain, though the change of color in Sienna's face didn't seem to be because of her illness—especially not as she seemed at a loss for words. "Oh! Um… Collaborations are so much fun," she eventually replied in English. "I'm glad! At least something good came out of this whole Hag’s Fever mess."
Camila giggled softly. "It's okay. No, um… emotions," she said, also speaking—at least for the moment—in English. Auguste Courtemanche was a flirt, regardless, and she was almost certain that they would be asked to play up the romantic sentiments for the sake of promoting the song once it was released. "Just the music."
She had gotten friends out of it, too, though she couldn't really promise Sienna much until she was also well enough to leave the hospital. She wasn't sure how much her team would want her around St. Mungo's once she was discharged, and she didn't want to cause a scene if anyone saw her there and freaked out. It was unfortunate, she thought, and it had seemed that Sienna didn't yet have a mobile phone like hers.
After another thought, she tapped through her screen again. "You don't have to call me 'Camila' if you don't want to. It's just a stage name," Camila added through the translator, the easier way of expressing herself where she wasn't as certain of the proper wording in English. As soon as the speaker had played back her words in French, Camila added on the rest of her thoughts in English. "My real name is María del Carmen," she clarified, the same as was given on her chart. "Or Carmen." So many people were called "María" or some variation on what would have translated as "María of the…" that it was hardly uncommon to be referred to by the second portion of the name.

It was good that Camila seemed to enjoy Sienna’s discomfort talking about Gus because Si’s face was still burning and she hid her face in another tissue for a few seconds under the cover of blowing her nose. Si loved to talk to her close friends about Gus – how proud she was, how talented he was, all the usual topics – but she always avoided the bald truths that both his personality and his public image confirmed that Gus was a naturally flirty person and that he had many admirers. It didn’t bode well for her heart to think too deeply about the fact that someday he was going to fall in love again, and probably with another celebrity. That train of thought usually led to many minutes of quiet contemplation about the mess she’d gotten herself into, but Si’s tendency to catastrophize was pleasantly interrupted by Camila – er, Carmen’s clarification. She really was a sweet girl, and if nothing else about getting Hag’s Fever was positive then Si was at least glad she’d had the opportunity to meet Camila. It felt like the right moment to restart the conversation on a more equal footing (especially amid the reminder that Camila was in fact a real person and sometimes a rather isolated one), so Si extended her hand to shake Camila’s and have a proper introduction. “It’s lovely to meet you, Carmen,” Si said with a bright smile, emphasizing the last word. “My friends call me Si. Er, well, that means something in Spanish though, doesn’t it? So whatever you want then.” Yes, that was more the real Sienna’s style. Coherent rambling, with little filter between her brain and her mouth. She gave a sheepish chuckle and shrugged. Si was about to say something else (whatever it was, her mouth would probably have decided last second), but she startled as the door opened and she recognized the Healer she’d spoken to earlier. “Oh, um, is it time for my check-up already?” Si asked hurriedly before she could be scolded for leaving her room. camila calderón

Upon her mentioning that Sienna was free to call her by her actual name and not her stage name if she so chose, she held her hand out for a handshake towards Camila. “It’s lovely to meet you, Carmen,” Sienna beamed. “My friends call me Si,” though she hesitated at the nickname and mentioned that it also meant something in Spanish. That it did, and Camila laughed alongside her.
Obviously, there was the potential for Sienna’s nickname to be misunderstood as the word “yes”, but that was the point of having context, Camila thought. It probably wouldn’t make too much sense for someone who didn’t realize that she was speaking about a person, but that was also easy enough to correct.
Just then, however—and before either one of them could say anything more—the door opened, and there was one of the Healers standing there. Sienna (or Si) seemed suddenly panicked again. “Oh, um, is it time for my check-up already?”
Camila shook her head, realizing that their conversation probably had been cut short at that moment. The Healers were all very nice people—though some of them were maybe a bit stern—but Camila knew that she wouldn’t have wanted to get on any of their bad sides, considering that they were the professionals in charge of her care. She looked quickly between Sienna and the Healer. “It’s okay,” she spoke with a smile, hoping to make things at least a little easier on Sienna. “She is my friend.”

Si wasn’t generally the type of person that followed the directions of authority figures, but she’d become much quieter since the chaos in England had started. Scary news like the deaths of students or the fall of Azkaban seemed to be the exact extreme chaos that could turn Si into a quiet law-abiding citizen. So when the Healer looked at Sienna sternly for leaving her room (and she hadn’t even said anything yet!), she wilted slightly under the attention and coughed sheepishly. Camila seemed to understand the situation too, and Si shot a grateful smile at Camila for her intervening comment. “Guess it’s time to go,” she said quickly in English, standing up from the bed. After a small pause (and weighing if it was worth doing something that would probably earn the Healer’s disapproval), Si stooped down to give Camila a quick hug. “It was really nice to meet you, and I’ll definitely have to get one of these soon,” Si said cheerfully as she tapped Camila’s cell phone before stepping away. “Look me up in Diagon Alley!” With that, Sienna followed the Healer out into the hallway for her medical exam. She’d been told upon being checked-in that her case didn’t appear too serious, so Sienna was holding out hope that she’d be out in time for the Quidditch final (although the Healer had mentioned that was extremely unlikely). Sienna thought about her conversation with Camila as she watched the Healer check her vitals. She’d been intending to see Gus, but stumbling onto what seemed a promising friendship with Camila was worth all the discomfort of Hag’s Fever. Si smiled to herself – it’d been a brief encounter but she could already tell that Camila was her type of person. camila calderón [End thread!]
